Galaxy S8 is soft locked (not rooted) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Ok this is going to be a nightmare to explain, my brother has an S8 on Sprint, his battery was low and turn on max power settings and enabled some sort of restricted app usage setting or something to that extent, after locking his phone he went to unlock it (he has a password lock) the keyboard to type won't pop up I'm guessing because he switched his default to Gboard, ok this is where it gets screwy and yes he managed to mess up this bad, I did some googling and realized Samsung find my mobile has an unlock screen option if you sign into it with your Samsung account on your phone, so I gave him my phone and he tried to sign in here forgot his password because he used a randomly generated password with lastpass, ok I download LastPass it won't let me in I'm not a recognized device, I think try the desktop site I get not the right location because he's not living where he originally set it up at, so I thought reset your Samsung account password and send it to your Gmail he can't get into his Gmail because again he used a randomly generated password with LastPass and he can't get into LastPass, id factory reset with Stock Recovery but FRP will kick in and he doesn't know the password.
Look I've done my fair share of rooting and roming and installing stuff I shouldn't have, but I've never messed up this bad, it's beyond what I can think of though, I've tried everything I can think of but any help would be appreciated thank you in advance
I've contacted Samsung support and tried explaining everything but they are just f***ing worthless, they kept thinking I wanted to reboot the phone when I was asking if battery saver turned off when the battery was full
Should also say he took the Oreo update whenever it dropped for the S8

[Q] Security PIN turning to password and locking me out

This issue has been addressed and no actual cause has been determined.
My pin lock pad which I usually use is replaced by a keyboard for no reason and my pin doesn't work anymore.
it keeps asking me for a password and after every 5 attempts I get a 30 seconds countdown.
To add insult to injury trying to restart the computer boots me into download mode.
It's very frustrating to say the least. Fortunately I have a twrp backup that I can restore but it's such a waste of time.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Useless posts just to raise your post count are all over this forum, seriously if you cant offer anything remotely helpful why post at all? Also put your tongue back in!
OP can you extrapolate how to arrive at the issue and also please state device model, device status etc?
Are you using an application to set/unset your PIN?
I had this happening to me repeatedly, however it was accepting my PIN as the password so was more just annoying that anything else.
After some experimenting I found that it was Secure Settings (setting the PIN) that seemed to be the cause - somehow it was setting the PIN correctly the first time it ran and then subsequently it would switch to password.
I ditched it and instead setup my set/unset PIN via Pebble Locker (also using Wifi and other bluetooth devices to set/unset PIN).
After using it for a few days successfully, it locked once setting a password instead of PIN, and this time my usual PIN failed to unlock it. Luckily it was about 11pm and I knew that it would automatically unlock at about 7am the next day when the wifi was automatically switched back on - so I didn't need to reset or anything (although I got the impression at the time that you could unlock it via going to your google account somehow - but I can't recall the details and may have this entirely wrong).
I setup a Tasker profile so that I'd have a backdoor to disable the PIN by plugging it into power and checking if I'm at home at the time. Not the most secure solution, but hardly wide open either.
I'm having the same issue and it also appears to be a quirk with Secure Settings. Actually locked me out of my phone yesterday, had to return home where I had task to unlock phone in order to get back in.

Locked out of Galaxy S4 using Unlock w/ WiFi

I have been using Unlock with WiFi on my Galaxy S3 using a 1 letter password with no issues. Please don't judge me for using such a simple password
Anyhow, I now have a Galaxy S4 and just got it all setup last night. Installed Unlock with WiFi, entered my 1 letter for the password, and now I appear to be locked out of my phone.
At the lock screen, when I type just 1 letter and press the return key, it just erases the letter like I didn't type anything. This continues up to 3 characters. If I type 4 or more, then I get a message, Wrong Password. So this tells me the S4 must only recognize 4 or more characters, yet Unlock with WiFi still allows you to enter one 1 character for the password. I have sent an email to the developer, but I was hoping someone from here might be able to shed some light on the matter. I 'm curious why or how this could have happened.
How do I get back into my phone? I have already tried the Android Device Manager, but my phone never receives the new lock. I know this because it allows you to enter a message that will be displayed on the lock screen, and I never receive the message. I also tried AndroidLost but no luck. It apparently thinks my phone is offline and none of the commands sent are successful on my phone.
Also, my phone is rooted if that helps. Just rooted it last night thanks to the help of this forum.
Thanks
Mike

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't think any of that is going to work. It either requires a recovery partition to be installed or USB Debugging enabled.
I had USB Debugging on, but after I had everything setup on my phone I turned it off. I didn't install a recovery partition.
I have decided to just reset it and wipe it clean, since it's still like new and I have no data or pictures on it. Though I do dread fine tuning all my settings, reinstalling all my apps and setting everything back up the way I had it.
Anyhow, not sure how you reset the phone though. I thought after you enter the pin code wrong so many times, it will ask you to reset the phone. Anyone know the limit?
When I enter the code wrong after 5x, it tells me to wait 30 seconds, and then tells me a total of how many times I have entered the wrong code. I currently have entered the wrong code 30x and all it says is wait 30 seconds and try again.
Seriously, that sounds like it's going on indefinitely! If so, what can I do at this point?
I'm still waiting to hear back from the developer of the app that contributed to all of this.
Thanks
Mike

Screen Lock on S7 Edge - Bypass Help

Hello, I'm stuck with my s7 edge screen lock, I've always used my fingerprint scanner but when configured enterprise email account into the cellphone it asked me to set a PIN (weeks ago) and since then I just used fingerprint to unlock it, however yesterday my batery ran out and its asking for this PIN now. I don't have the samsung account to unlock it and ADM from google wont set a temporary password as "there is one already in place"
1. My phone is not rooted
2. I don't have any recovery tool installed
Is there any zip or bypass up to date that I could flash via SD card to remove the lock screen, please help
Short answer - no. You'd need to factory reset the device or enter the pin.
If security was that easy to bypass, it wouldn't really be security.

There are tons of tutorials of screen unlocking and even apps that you just plug into the USB and click "screen unlock bypass" thing is I did not find any for S7 Edge, that is my question, no need to reply with such unexplored answer.

#1 - There may well be lots of apps which claim to do this. If it was actually that simple, why would you have a screen lock in the first place? These are snake-oil type apps
#2 - Any apps you may have found that do work probably (almost certainly) don't work beyond Android 4.4 as security became a much larger focus for the OS as a whole
#3 - just because I haven't cited sources doesn't mean that I haven't conducted previous research. I had an issue where my Google Pixel C would not authenticate with the pattern key. I could not bypass it and had to extract all the data I could using AirDroid before factory resetting the device
It wasn't an 'unexplored' answer, it was merely telling it to you straight rather than trying to sugar coat it. Remind me not to answer your question next time. :good:
It doesn't mean that it's not the answer you seek, it's not the truth. There's a reason why people are told to remember passwords, and if their memories suck, they should write it down somewhere.
Newer phones are more securely locked than older phones now precisely for the reasons that Android is being made more secure due to demands for use in corporate and government settings. as far as I know none of those hacks works for anything higher than Android 6.0, and the S7 launches with that Android version.

I'm in the same boat, took out my S7 after a couple of months, and do not remember the password anymore. The only saving grace is, it still connects to my home wifi network. I'm able to use Android Device managr to locate it, make it ring, send a lock meesage to it. I've logged into my samsung account, it lists the S7 edge as one of my devices but, it is unable to locate the phone. I may not have setup Samsung findmyphone on the device after I reset it t factory default in the past, which is why it is unable to locate it.
The phone is turned on, and connected to my home WiFi - but, is obviosuly not being located by Samsung Fund My Phone. There is NO option to reset, recover password, it have bumped upto 60 minutes wait to try again as I;ve entered the password unsuccessfully multiple times.
All the guides I've read on the net are completely useless, they all either require rooting, which I dont have as I had corporate email setup on it and the IT policy woulndt allow rooted phones ot be used, or they default to hard resetting the device. Some suggest after multiple failed attemps, the option to reset password should show up on the lock screen, but, all I get it, please try again in 60 minutes.
The phone is legitimitely mine, Android Device Manager finds it under my gmail account, but, Samsung doesnt seem to talk to it - is there any option avaialble?. I really don't want to reset the phone. I've emailed Samsung support as well, but sentiment on the net is, they're no apple when it comes to support.
Android normally secures your device by demanding a PIN, pattern, or full password. Your phone isn't useless if you forget the unlock code — you can bypass lock screen on Samsung S7 Edge.
As Google tightens security, this has become more difficult on modern versions of Android. But there's always a way to make your phone usable again, as long as you remember your Google account's username and its password.
Older versions of Android — Android 4.4 KitKat and older — have an integrated way to bypass your pattern, PIN, or other password if you forget it. Google removed this feature in Android 5.0 Lollipop, so you'll have to use a different method if you have a device with a newer version of Android.
To find this feature, first enter an incorrect pattern or PIN five times at the lock screen. You'll see a "Forgot pattern," "forgot PIN," or "forgot password" button appear. Tap it. You'll be prompted to enter the username and password of the Google account associated with your Android device.
Thanks Adeliz, however...

Google Authentication??

I got my new S8+ today and set everything up using only wireless. During setup, I forgot my google password so I reset it. After I got everything setup, I shutdown and inserted the SIM card. To my surprise, my phone reset completely. Now when I try to reconfigure the phone, during the google password authentication process, I get a message that I the phone was reset and because of the password change I can't use it for 24 hours?? What kind of crap is that? Does anyone know how to get around this??? I can't use my new phone at all because I can't get logged in??

Can you login and authenticate on a web browser? Have you tried to boot into stock recovery, do a factory reset and don't login to your google account during setup?
Try PWR + VOL UP or PWR + VOL Down to get into recovery mode once you boot up the phone.

I can't get into recovery mode. I tried PWR and Vol up and down and neither works, phone just boots. There is no home button on the S8 so how do you get to recovery?

Ok, you have hold the Bixby button also. This is really strange. I can login to my account on my PC but not on the phone? What kind of security is this? Designed to tick you off, that's all I can see.

Guess the Bixby button acts like the old home button. Were you able to do a factory reset and see if that fixed the issue?

Yes, I was able to factory reset but it didn't solve the problem. Googles ridiculous security won't let you use a new password on a phone that has been reset for 24 hours? Why can't you verify who you are and continue. Severe overkill if you ask me. The worst thing is, I didn't reset the phone, the google software did! All I did was setup the phone and reboot it and it reset itself...
Even weirder, is that during the setup, you can say you forgot password. You then have an option to send a request to reset your password to your old device. When you say yes, your old device gets a prompt and you can reset your password. Even that doesn't work on a reset phone!
The more I think about this google security method, the more I realize it is designed to punish one person, the true owner of the phone. If my phone had been actually stolen, and it wasn't me that reset the password or the phone, the thief will still have access in 24 hours so that part of the security hasn't played any part at all. So I the true owner of the phone is being punished because my phone reset itself. Makes no sense at all. Security has to be something that is logical and not crippling. This policy cripples your phone and punishes you if you have an accidental reset. Thanks for nothing Google!!
Sorry to hear that. By any chance you called Google for tech support?
Call up google and they should be able to fix it.
Also you can skip the google account and log into the phone you just cant use gmail or playstore.
And there is a way around this i just dont remember what it was. Had to do this to my wifes phone a while back when she forgot her password.
I think it was to skip the google sign in, in setup. Then add the log into google via the web browser and then add the google acccount via system accounts.

I wish it was that easy. Google said nothing they can do. Have to wait 24 hours.
Not sure if this new with OS7 but you cant get by the Google log on screen any longer. The NEXT key is greyed out so you cant bypass. Only have 5 more hours to wait.

Thats sucks and good to know. Sorry you had to be that guy to find out for the rest of us. Thanks for taking one for the team!
You have to wait 24-48 hours to get into your phone. It'a a security measure from google against stolen phones.
I had the same problem with an S7edge, depending on firmware version there were methods to bypass the FRP ( if I remember well). I succwded after 6 hours using a bluetooth handfree, launching s-voice, launching a program who disabled the FRP.
What is very frustrating is that in my google acount S7edge was there as my device, but there was no option to skip login to google in the initial setup.

You already used your phone after waiting for 24hrs? Because i have the same problem with my s8+ too.

stolen S7 Edge was found, but is now locked - what to do?

My girlfriends S7 Edge was stolen in France and unbelievably she was contacted through the Embassy that it had been found!!! I couldn't believe it especially because the police was more than rude and didn't care at all at first.
Anyway, after an ordeal to get it back by mail without speaking french ourselves it is now here without the case. Plugging it in it came up in download mode. Rebooting brought the lockscreen back, but her pattern doesn't work and it's in French. However, there were still messages on the lockscreen, so I believe it may not have been wiped. But no idea why it is in french now and why the lock pattern doesn't work.
Apparently one can set a temporary password through device manager, but problem 1 both wifi as well as mobile data are disabled - I can't get to it through device manager. Problem 2 I can pull down quick settings, but cannot activate either wifi nor data. Problem 3 I thought you can always get to the backup PIN entering a few wrong pattern, but that doesn't work either - only the delays increase.
There is no recovery installed or root. I may have enabled debug mode and read I could delete pattern.key via adb, however am not there right now.
Any other ideas? I wonder who changed the phone to french and download mode. Could be the police (because they found GF and there was no name on the phone) or the thief. The SIM was missing, if the thief threw away the SIM the police must have accessed the phone.
Any other ideas? I absolutely don't want to go wipe just yet, but without the phone connecting to either wifi or data there is no hope through google. We can call it with the replacement SIM.
Any way to get out of the pattern and to enter the PIN? Doesn't a PIN always have to be set when a pattern is set?
Would adb deleting of the pattern file actually work?
Google how to bypass passwords you'll find help in d results
Yeah, I did - had to do this recently restoring a TWRP backup when my pattern suddenly didn't work any more - even though I used the same pattern on the older version and thought I deleted everything. It must have stored this stuff outside the data, system or boot partitions.... weird.
Anyway unfortunately it looks like the thief got access and deleted everything, that's why it's in french. So the only way for the police to identify the owner must have been the IMEI - there is nothing left but creepy selfies of the thief - tons of them.
