No wifi on stock ROM and MAC address reads 02:00:00:00:00:00 - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

My G4's been working fine since i had but about a week ago i noticed it wasn't connecting to any wifi networks. It was searching but couldn't find any.
I did a hard reset and now can't get past the android set up page, as soon as it starts searching for a wifi network it locks up and then reboots after about 10 seconds.
The MAC address is listed as 02:00:00:00:00:00
I've reflashed the Stock ROM that was already on it but it's made no difference, any ideas???

Have you got root?

No never been rooted

You could try rooting your phone and changing manually the MAC with some app.

Can't get past the android setup so I can't install any apps!

The bootloader isn't unlocked.
Before flashing it was on NPJS25.93-14-13/3
I reflashed using https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138
Just to clarify the wifi wasnt working before the flash hence the reason for reflashing

Just tried unlocking the bootloader so i can try other roms but it wont let me. Keeps telling me to tick allow oem unlock. Cant do that as i cant get past set up screen!!

are you sure you are flashing the right version for your device??? flashing wrong firmware causes the MAC id issue most of the time!

Yes definitely the right version. The MAC id problem was there before any flashing was done.

at setup screen skip the setup, if you can. I am not sure, if you can skip it or not..I don't know, what other way you can do things without unlocking the bootloader

There's no option to skip the setup unfortunately, It locks up and restarts once its trying to connect to wifi. I've tried using the mobile network but it still crashes and restarts (I'm assuming that this is because wifi is still being turned on).
I'm at a bit of a loss what to do really???
I'm not sure whats causing the issue with the wifi, flashing stock ROM hasn't helped and i'm unable to unlock the bootloader because i can't get it to boot! Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Im beginning to think that there's no way to fix this, what i can't understand is why the wifi still isn't working after reflashing stock ROM surely that should clear everything back to factory including whatevers stopping the wifi working.
Could possibly be a hardware issuei suppose ,is it possible to replace the wifi chip?

I still have the original stock rom and exactly the same problem!
The last update ****ed it over!
I will now try cache clear on stock rom before I go further
Edit - No change! Definately need a solution for this
As I have the same problem I will wait for further support so that worst case I can provide help for the other user.
Mobile Data still works tough
Phone: never rooted, after cache clear it doesnt ask for update anymore which helps
EDIT 2: Got it to work. I wsa able to get into a public wifi download the new update and all is fine.
1. Clear cache
2. public wifi or download the latest update from XDA and start manually
This should fix it!

Just to share what helped me to recover Wi-Fi and solve the MAC address 02:00:00:00:00:00:
A. Get the apk file of the Wifi Mac Changer app and install it in your phone without Wi-Fi.
B. Open it and grant root access. You'll see that your "Real" MAC address will be 02:00:00:00:00:00.
C. Then you have your "Fake" Mac Address. Copy it into the line "New Mac" and press "Hard change" button. You don't need even to reboot to restore your Wi-Fi.
D. For me, it worked at the first time, I can also uninstall the app later. Later dirty flashes of ROMs got Wi-Fi without issues.
Hope it helps.

Still can't enable WIFI on 2.3.5 or Aurora

Hello.
I'm sorry if it has been already discussed before, but i couldn't actually find a solution for this in here.
I got a brand new U8800 (2.2). The WIFI was working properly.
So i installed the official 2.3.5 version required to get Aurora installed. At this time i couldn't enable WIFI anymore. I did try to wipe everything more than once before and after upgrading, same story.
I saw people saying that it might be a missed IMEI problem, but i didn't lose it, but the MAC addresses for WIFI and BT are "Unknown".
After root the phone i tried to set the MAC manually using terminal emulator, and it didn't work either.
Upgrading to Aurora also didn't solve the problem, still can't get either Wifi or BT enabled.
Is there anyone who could actually solve it?
Thank you
If the MAC address for wifi and bluetooth shows 'unknown' that indicates a configuration problem because of a somehow faulty update. I do not know how to solve this problem, but in case there is no quick solution I suggest that you install the official Huawei-Gingerbread-ROM and have the unit returned then.
It is not likely that this problem occurs on the next device too - as long as the file you downloaded (the huawei update) is not corrupt. As long as you can unzip it without any error message the file should be alright and the update process should not break anything. If you know that your harddrive is very old and you believe that this could be the problem, get this checked out.

Wifi problem on SGH i337

Hey all! so.. my friend came from U.S and he got me a used Galaxy 4 from AT&T, and the Wifi is just stuck on a green grey situation, its not on or off
i tried any solution online that i could find. i don't know what to do anymore. nothing helping the things that are only helping was changing the router settings to a different encryption mode from WEP and then its worked but when i connected my gs4 to a different wifi connection the problem happened again
the wifi can work days if I'm not switching wifi spots.
my only solution by now was just to change to a whole new custom ROM
the problem is, that i have NO IDEA how to do it due the fact that i have a mac and i couldn't find a Proper noob guide from scratch to do that. please help me! i am a graphic designer and an artist with a MA in fine arts and i would love to help u guys too

You will need to find you build number first. Under Settings/About Device to determine how to flash roms on the phone--a screen of that page may help also--

hey thanks i added a photo but apparently i need 10 posts at least so just add www i58.tinypic.com/v41bue.png
the wifi is working cuz i restart it to manufacture settings again but soon as i will disconnect him and join a different connection he will go grey again
From the PM photo you are on NB1 build--
If you are going to root to flash a custom rom you will need the below two links--
Read Op page of first link, I think it depends on how the phone got to NB1 as which steps you need.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
You will need SafeStrap in below link. So, read up on that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448925
These are if you are going to root to flash a rom. You can only flash Touch Wiz roms and no custom kernels or recovries.
If you want to get back to stock status you will need to flash the appropriare firmware and use Odin on a PC and Heimdall on Mac. Will have to research that.
What carrier are you on and where you are at?
Was the phone ever rooted--
I never returned to stock or used SafeStrap, so someone with hands on experience will have to help on that.
Hiii....I am also having the same problem. My phone was unlocked by a guy and everything was working fine then. From next day the i could not turn on WiFi(It would go grayish for some time and then return to normal).I tried searching for it online and found the following soln
1)Reboot and check(Didn't work)
2)Factory Reset:After doing this it worked for that initial scanning but again was back to normal once wifi was switched off
3)Factory reset and installed root browser(my phone is rooted as i was able to install root explorer) and tried renaming the wpa-supplant config file
.This was worked for me for like 4 days.
After that again the problem is back and its even worse. It is immediately turning off as opposed to delay in previous case. When i tried to follow the same procedure the config files are not present.I could not on wifi even after factory reset even once
As i am a new around here detailed help would be appreciated;
My Device Features:
1)Andriod:4.4.2,SGH I337
2)Baseband:I337UCUFNC1
3)kernel Version:3.4.0-1125940

During the first boot of a ROM, you have to enter your google mail adress, you have to setup your phone...
During this setup, there are choices to make : Agree to general conditions, allow GPS, etc... One of thoses choices is to allow your phone to remember all of your informations (such as wifi passwords). I think you didn't cross this box, so your phone don't remember

I think you misunderstood my problem is that my phone every time I restart forget the network
I had a similar problem in my old Note 4. I solved it by doing the following
Edit build.prop
1. ro.securestorage.support= (((change true to false)))
2. Save and copy(replace) to system folder.
3. Restart phone
Not sure if this will help you, but it may. Take a backup first ????

Oneplus 5 stuck on setup?

EDIT: Solution was to sit with OP5 technician which flashed my ROM to Oxygen 4.5.1. After this didn't do it, I RMA-ed it and got a new OP5.
EDIT: TL;DR: After updating OP5 to 4.5.5, It doesn't recognizes sim nor wifi, and can't rollback to 4.5.3 that did and stuck on phone setup (needs wifi). ADB devices is empty, I have Google USB Driver from SDK, Windows 10
Hello,
I just got a new OP5 today.
Opened it in the store, came with Oxygen 4.5.3 outta the box.
I putted the sim in, and I connected to the store's wifi, all was good and even had a phone call to my mother to check if the mic and speaker are working well.
Then when I got home, I upgraded the OS to 4.5.5 through the settings, where Android suggested. I'm new to OP and android (moved from iphone 5) and so if there is a right way to do it, and that's not it, I wouldn't have known.
Then, OP5 didn't recognize the sim anymore and couldn't start the wifi (switching it on wouldn't work, it would do nothing), so I tried Factory reset. Unfortunately it didn't reset the OS as well and now I'm stuck outside can't use my sim card or connect to my home wifi to setup the device.
Tried installing OP5 usb drivers (show when connecting the OP5 to PC) and press the power button and lower speaker volume together, then flush the 4.5.3 OS through USB, but it doesn't recognize ZIP folder and when I tried to unzip and send boot image (cmd->"adb sideload boot.img) it started and then failed at 0%.
Please help, the phone right now is unusable.
Tried the Factory reset through settings, but it took so long I thought it was stuck, so I did it through recovery screen.
Sounds like you got a lemon... I'd take it back and see if they'll swap it for another. Less than a week should be replaced immediatelly, at least that's been my experience here in Oz...

Why should it be replaced in less than a week? Also, isn't there a fix for adb problem so I could flash 4.3.5? Maybe a remote takeover?
Mine had 4.5.3 on it when I got it, updated to 4.5.4 then manually downloaded full rom, placed on internal memory and flashed 4.5.5 through the settings.
Had zero problems with WIFI before, during and after the update. No problems since.
Generally updating to a higher firmware version won't allow you to regress back to the lower, not sure with Oneplus as this is my first.
I'd also, if you can boot into Android go to settings nd check my IMEI numbers to see if they have been wiped (this can cause the sim to not be recognised) . If you have no IMEI then that is a BIG problem which will require an RMA unless you had backed up your efs files which from your description I doubt..
If the IMEI is OK I would download the full firmware version from here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/oneplus-5-mirrors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190 - then using PC put the FULL ROM onto the internal memory then go to recovery and flash.
I'd also then unlock my bootloader(Just remember though that the phone will wipe all data after unlocking bootloader) and install TWRP - don't forget to 1st enable developer mode in settings and then allow usb debugging and OEM unlock - make a backup of the working stock rom and put it somewhere safe - home PC, in case this happens again. Best idea is to use the all-in-one tool, here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...l-skipsoft-android-toolkit-oneplus-5-t3625419 thankyou MSkip.

I can't pass the "Connect to Wifi" in the initial setup of the android, as it finds no wifi networks (but of course there are, when I use the sim in my iphone it works properly and there are wifi networks). So I don't know how can I get the IMEI number.
Right now my PC recognizes the OP5 connected via USB, but "adb devices" bring back empty list.
I think that once I get that working, I could unlock the bootloader. But I can't seem to be able to enable dev mode in settings - I can't get there.
I can only get to the recovery screen beyond the initial steps of setting up android.
Right now there is no important data on the phone and I have my laptop which is virgin to ADBs and Drivers (didn't use it to try to resolve it).
What driver and where do I get the right ADB so I could load 4.5.3 from usb to the phone?

Might be wrong but I thought you could skip the wifi select screen on the setup wizard.
If you can get to Android you need to go to settings, scroll down to about phone and tap around 8 times on build number to enable developer settings.
You might be able to, might, pull down the settings menu in the wizard and bypass the wizard.

Do you have any suggestion on fixing adb so it would recognize the OP5?
No, you need to enable debugging in developer settings for ADB to recognise.

Welp it is a pickle.
Going to go live chat with OP "level 2" representative.
See if they wipe the phone out and restore an older ROM.
If that't not going to work, RMA it is :/
Shame. A new phone. Took only one picture with my dad when we opened it back at the store. nothing else.
Unfortunately bad things can happen... You just got to be the one who got the dud this time round.....
Here's hoping it's the last time....
you can force update to a fresh installation of 4.5.5 by putting the 4.5.5 full zip into your phone in a folder called "update". Reboot to recovery im assuming you have stock recovery and follow the steps until you find the option that says something along the lines of "Update manually". It will detect if you have an update folder stored on your phone and it will begin reinstalling OOS 4.5.5. It sounds like a software problem but could be a hardware problem. Rule out the first option before RMA the latter.

When I connect the OP5 to the PC there are no folders under it (Computer -> OP A500 -> no folders), but I'll try and give it a shot. see what happens. Will update this reply.
Update:
After Oneplus flashed Oxygen 4.5.1 on the phone and some other magic I was able to skip wifi step on setup, yet still when I try to activate it it won't budge. the slider won't move and it looks as the page is being refreshed. Also, when I try to get into sim section in settings it would just freeze and alert the program stopped and suggest to close or wait.
Oneplus says it is hardware issue, and the fact it happened when I upgraded to 4.5.5 from settings menus is coincidence. They say I need RMA it.
If anyone knows how to fix it then I'm more than welcome to hear it.
EDIT: it also won't shut off unless I long press the power button.

Can you tell us more?
How did it start?
Did something happen to it, or did you just notice it is not connecting?
The most easy things first, is your sim card correctly in place?
Which ROM are you on and have you reflashed it?

The phone started with problems since I upgraded to Android Pie, I have taken care of it very well but I do not know if it is a hardware failure, but note that in baseband turns out to be unknown, I installed several stock roms from fastboot without any success, also I thought it would be a problem of the EFS partition, but everything is fine I even took a backup in case the doubts, what could happen?

Did you originally update via OTA, meaning, was it the official update?
Then when you noticed it's not working, you tried to flash several stock ROMs?
One possible problem that comes to mind, is that for some reason, you have the wrong radio/modem firmware. That can happen for example, if you have flashed a ROM, which is not meant for your region.

Yes, upgrade to Android pie via OTA
I already put a stock rom of the same region, following each fastboot command one by one, but everything continues the same, I even installed RROS 7, to see if at least it turned on the wifi, and it is in bootloop.

Go with the modding guide index: how to restore stock ROM etc., and flash a stock ROM that you know will work. Flash the radio/modem file too, and make sure it's the correct one.
Just to say, I had connection problems too, and in the end they were because the sim card did not latch correctly in place i.e. was not correctly in place.

Great that you have an idea. ?
Here's an idea: take a backup of your current config in twrp, move it to the computer, take a copy. Replace the files in that copy with the ones that you want to flash.
Did you mean this? You are aware that you can try different radio/modem files through fastboot, not having to flash everything else every time? That said, go with your idea. ?

I have a similar problem, I was using the Havoc 2.4 rom, when upgrading to 2.6 I no longer recognize my SIM card and the wi-fi does not connect, I can not install another rom anymore, nor rom stock, recovery TRWP has been replaced by the Havoc and the Wipe System function does not work, and for a few days you can not stay in recovery mode anymore, it restarts every 3 seconds, not the time to click the options. Can someone help me. I'm without a cell phone, and I need it.
I have a similar issue after flashing the latest firmware. SIM goes to "SIM locked" every ten seconds or so, and Wifi drops at the same tie. It's like networking is being reset every 10 seconds. No network settings I've tried change that.
I've flashed several stock ROMs; the one I had previously, newest, oldest, both for RETEU and retail. I used Lenovo restore to upgrade but that resulted in soft brick, after that I flashed the latest firmware via Fastboot and that's when the problem started.
With Oreo, wifi and cellular don't work at all, nothing detected. With Pie they're connected and dropped in a loop. I can't help thinking that the Lenovo restore broke this somehow, but modem files have been reflashed several times after that with no change. I'm not getting the baseband error.

I have the exact same problem, I wasn't able to repair it so I sent it to service and tomorrow they will try to fix it for $35. The problem with goign back to previous versions is that you loose the IMEI and MAC . The problem with the pie version I believe is the baseband. If the service is able to fix it I will post the solution here for you to fix it .

Service couldn't fix it. Being honest they were quite incompetent, when I explained the problem he said "we should hire you" ( I am 16 years old) . Anyway, could you fix it? Because I am not even close

Sorry I answer so late, I didn's see the message before.
I believe you already tried puting it into bootloader mode. If that's the case, I had a similar problem recently an it solved alone, I let it loop for a while and suddenly fell, into dtock recovey, i factory reset (with stock recovery) and somehow stock was booted ( i believe it was because it was in inactive slot).
Hope this helps you

I am still working on this, I actually did this to a work phone (I had permission to root/unroot). Something that has helped me so far is just getting familiar with the whole flashing process - https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...actory-images-android-using-fastboot-0175277/. I think from this article the problem lies in the modem/radio rom. That *should* be the only thing you need to flash on. However, I have noticed with a lot of roms on here, a modem rom is not included on the stock firmware. But that needs to match well to your phone from what I understand. I have tried a few modem roms already, unfortunately, but no luck.
