Rom Talk & Links - Google Pixel 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

I've been meaning to make a thread for what seems to be a rather scattered dev scene so far for walleye that has migrated away from XDA and I'm not quite sure why. Everything seems to be G+ now.
AICP
I'm running AICP and have been since late Feb. Hector's got weekly builds for walleye going now and you can flash them like you're used to in TWRP (without formatting & sideloading)
His instructions:
adb reboot-bootloader <--> *check you are in slot_a
fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-2-walleye.img
adb shell mkdir /sdcard/ROMS/
adb push aicp_walleye_o-13.1-UNOFFICIAL-20180320.zip /sdcard/ROMS/
flash aicp-rom
Wipe Dalvik
reboot
So basically just transfer to phone and flash, wipe cache and reboot. Ignore No OS message.
Errors: vendor mismatch and modem service FC. Neither affect function or performance.
Remember to re-flash twrp after flashing the rom.
Download- His G+ post: https://plus.google.com/u/0/104399241323212354617/posts/HKwZVqcgGY2
Feel free to post other roms here. I'm trying to make one thread where we can form some clarity regarding our rom options. I'm not here for support, but I'll help where I can. Very thankful to all developers contributing to this device. Hopefully nothing I'm doing here is illegal.

I'm on a custom ROM made by Frankie T (R3Ds). It can be found on his ROM Telegram "SiX Penguins"

Mighty high IRate words.
Atleast we can respect whatever someone does. If you do not like it, then fine, do not use it.
Tiny or big, at least they are trying to do something and learning too.
What might you do mate? If you wanna criticise then look at MiUi Global Dev, and criticise them, it would be helpful. MiUi in the name of development gives crappier updates, and that too everytime they increase the OTA size.

Right, this ROM can be named Minimal MiUi, as it uses base MiUi ROM, along with few Globe Mi functionalities.

Are you using xiaomi.eu rom.
Clean install from cm13 latest using the recovery provided in the official cm13 thread.
I didn't get any error on flashing log & booting was successful too. But no matter what I cant login into mi account or can skip login.

Yes, im using xiaomi.eu rom 6.12.1
Try my method if you came from cm13/any aosp/cm based rom:
1. Clean install miui rom using mi flash, so you need fastboot rom. Download here http://en.miui.com/a-234.html
China rom recommended.
2. Then after comple flashing, boot phone to bootloader , then unlock bootloader.
3. Reboot phone, let it booting. It takes 15 - 20 minutes. Then your device will show MIUI wizard, just complete it. After that, do some customization into your device.
4. Reboot to bootloader from adb: "adb reboot bootloader"
Install twrp from bootloader, i'm using dadi11 twrp, link on my signature. Then boot to twrp, do not boot to system or your device will bootloop, because you're still using official miui rom.
5. Usually twrp can't decrypt data on latest rom dev MIUI 8, just press cancel if you facing it. Do factory reset from twrp to get rid from it, then select "reboot > recovery", do full wipe (cache , dalvik/art cache, system. data), then "reboot > recovery" again
6. Install any custom miui rom like xiaomi.eu, epic, miuipro, etc. Wipe cache & dalvik/art cache
7. Reboot system.
8. Done.
No error or any pop up error for me.

The thing is that the couldnt check security error is due to locale settings.
Use the required locale and also login through Mobile number in Xiaomi EU.

7.1.1 DU Official

Anybody notice theres a new 7.1.1 DU official out there? Runs smooth.
Thank you for checking it. There is indeed version of 23 December tagged as official, not weekly. I was waiting for OP of original Nexus 9 DU thead to post it
installed it 2 days ago and everything runs very stable and smooth. no noticed bugs so far. i really like it thanks to devs!

I don't think that the devs of DU like links to their roms being posted on XDA as they have moved their threads to Devs Base. Head on over to their G+ page at https://plus.google.com/communities/109738128866939227235 where you will find the link you are looking for. Both Official and Weekly builds can be flashed over each other with no issues, however, if you stray onto the RC builds, they cannot be flashed over either the Official or Weekly builds, and vice versa.
Tried this but boot loops. Messed up my tablet too.
I tried it too without luck. It's forever showing the animated boot logo of the red unicorn, but nothing else happens. Gave up after half an hour. Maybe I should have waited an hour?

I apologize in advance for the n00b question, but what does it mean to "update the vendor"?
rom still works awesome for me!
guys get the nmf26f volantis factory image from google and extract the bootloader and vendor.img
then install the bootloader through adb and flash the vendor.img
btw you can get the rom from the official DU homepage. just google it.

This was the android version I had installed before trying DU, so is it still needed to flash those? Do you mean to flash them before or after installing TWRP and DU?
---------- Post added at 01:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:35 AM ----------
BTW, I had no problem installing LineageOS based on 7.1.1 right after the failing with DU.

What Stan said. Extract the vendor and bootloader from the latest factory google image and flash the vendor via TWRP as an image. I use Rom Toolbox to extract the image. The bootloader needs flashed via adb. You can update the vendor adb as well.
Thanks for your help, but it didn't work for me. After further investigation it seems the latest 'Official' build keeps giving me ZIP verification errors in TWRP even after redownloading the image. Flashed the latest bootloader and vendor as suggested (using Fastboot - couldn't find a way to do it with ADB) and then tried with the latest RC instead, which didn't fail in ZIP verification. Unfortunately I still get the animated unicorn boot logo forever... *sigh*
For anyone interested, I just found the solution getting help on Google+, which was this:
1. Install DU
2. Install GAPPS
3. Install boot.img from Noobbuilds
4. Reboot
Root is lost but that's easily fixed if needed. It works and runs really smooth.
how does it compare to noobbuilds?

I can't answer that as I only ripped boot.img from the Noobbuilds package. But compared to stock and LineageOS (both 7.1.1), DU is significantly more smooth and responsive.

DU 7.1.1 is the fastest ROM I've ever used on my Nexus 9. The stock kernel is superb. The only reason I use Fire-Ice kernel is because 2 amp charging doesn't work on the stock kernel unfortunately.

The code name for Nexus 9 is 'Flounder' (and Volantis). I'm unsure if the ROM on their page will work on the LTE version though.

The roms that are compatible are GSI 8.1 roms. Others don't work.
How I got it to work;
Flash twrp with treble support. Reboot to recovery.
Flash both vendor zips, reboot to recovery
Flash U11 treble zip, reboot to recovery
Flash Oreo GSI system image of your liking from https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble/trebleenabled-device-development
Flash U11 selinux zip. Reboot.
It should boot.
Also, make sure you backup in twrp beforehand as if it's not what you want, you can just restore.
For pixelexperience, I had issues with gapps verification. It wouldn't let me get around it.

I'm closing this thread as the OP does not have permission to post this ROM by the developer. It is private and unreleased. This is the second time this specific private ROM has been shared without permission and further attempts will have the same result.

GrapheneOS

Why we don't see any threads about grapheneos here on XDA? Is it a violation of any kind? It's running super good on my phone...
We have no also DU and BlissROMs here))) I have Bliss on my sargo and its` perfect )
because the dev doesn't want to waste time dealing with the typical XDA user.
Yes, the typical XDA user that fails to give XDA devs the appreciation they deserve with in-depth and accurate descriptions of their newest Nightly with a "Known Bugs" list of "You tell me!" followed by the "Buy me a beer!" Paypal link of shamelessness.
And between blissrom and grapheneos whish one is better? I want to try a new rom

Is there an easy way to run Bonito ROMs on Sargo? By "easy way“ I mean a way for people like me, for people without any knowledge of Android, Linux, etc. Thank You!

I haven't done it, but at the very bottom of the GrapheneOS install page is described the method for reverting to the original factory OS (which is probably the only reasonable way to fully delete GrapheneOS):
Installation of the stock OS via the stock factory images is the same process described above. However, before locking, there's an additional step to fully revert the device to a clean factory state.
The GrapheneOS factory images flash a non-stock Android Verified Boot key which needs to be erased to fully revert back to a stock device state. After flashing the stock factory images and before locking the bootloader, you should erase the custom Android Verified Boot key to untrust it:
fastboot erase avb_custom_key
