How to sponsor a LineageOS port to a new device? - LineageOS News & Discussion

Hi all,
I've been using the awesome LineageOS and its predecessor for many years and on many devices. I can't imagine using a device without it.
I recently stumbled upon a yet unsupported Mediatek based device. I would really like to sponsor a dev to port LineageOS to this device for two reasons:
To (selfishly) use LineageOS on it
To contribute to the community after benefiting from it for many years
What would be a good starting point to find a developer that could offer this service as job (beside posting it here)?
If you are interested in this job pls PM me (preferably with your Github profile).
Thanks for your help!

I have never specifically dabbled in Mediatek but, I believe, the following threads may, hopefully, be helpful for you regarding this topic in general.

There's more but, I believe that this should, hopefully, give you a good start and don't be afraid to ask for some member guidance within one of them too.
Good Luck!

I DO NOT provide support via PM unless asked/requested by myself. PLEASE keep it in the threads where everyone can share.

Thanks Ibuprophen!
Sorry, I was too vague in the original posting: As I don't have the capabilities to build an port by myself, I'm looking for someone I can sponsor to build one as a job.
Anyone interested just send me a PM, ideally with your Github profile.

Relentless Appz - What's up?

Mods,
Are the Relentless Appz posts being deleted because they contravene rules #7 and #11 about selling?
If so, fine, but if not - are they otherwise dodgy and to be avoided or is it just a forum rule thing?
TIA
NB - Don't mean to stir up a fire. Feel free to delete this thread and just PM me the answer if you prefer.
I too would like to know. Anyone have any first hand experience? I'd considered giving their rom roaster a try. Thought it was a bit shady for them to make their member name "admin-xda." That made me take a step back. Anyone with any first hand experience with these guys?
Well, this is going to get bumped until I get an answer (or it's deleted...).
Anyway, I've purchased the software and am getting active and responsive support from the developer. Having said this we're working through some installation challenges (might be my system, we don't know).
I've taken one for the team and now have considerable experience in packaging and bundling roms so will apply this software to my Kang-o-rama build to see how it suits.
I will write a review of the software when I have used it sufficiently and post that here on XDA.
In the meantime, I recommend you wait although so far I feel this guy (the dev) is honest and just trying to do a good job. We will see.

Just curious - what is it that you want to do with your ROM when cooking it yourself?

Well, to be honest I'm sceptical it will help me. But, it may and I'm willing to check it out on behalf of other XDA users and report back. The 5 quid isn't much to me but may be for others.
Also, because I've been building Kang-o-rama I think I'm in a good position to objectivity review the software.
On first appearances and based on the specs I think this has the potential to be quite a useful resource for junior rom builders... but that remains to be seen. If it works then really, it will be quite a nice solution for many because it's apparently a little more flexible than the various online kitchens.
Additionally, my communication so far with the dev has been positive and it really does appear as if he's got a personal interest in helping out the community. Of course I can't vouch for this fully yet.
Finally, if it actually allows me to save my build as versioned projects and simply execute the build from a single interface it may actually save me some time.
Having said all this, I've now practically automated my entire build so I suspect most of the value of my purchase might just be the potential review on XDA... we will see.

As I'm certain you know, there are many facets to a situation; and contrary to any announcements or statements you may have seen, this was not a targeted attack by a specific moderator. The owner of Relentless Appz clearly understands why the account suspension was placed for a third time.
I'm not going to get into providing the details about the action taken. I will say however, that several weeks of ongoing deliberation and discussions amongst Moderators/XDA Admins led to this action. As a sufficient number of forum rules were violated, and in the best interest of the members of this community, it was unanimously decided that this was the most appropriate course of action.
Please visit the Relentless Appz support forum on his website for assistance with trialware/purchased versions of his applications.

[BOUNTY] Nexus 9 for Cpasjuste

Hi !
I'm Cpasjuste, a long term user/developper on XDA. As many of you probably, i'm very interested in this device but i'm (really) lacking the founds to get one.
I'm not sure if it's something to do, requesting a bounty/device for myself but well .. who know ...
So i'm wondering if some people, or maybe a generous donator, would be interested in supporting me to get this device. I'm used to nvidia devices since the tegra/tegra2 and recently ported CM11 to a Tegra 4i device (https://github.com/Cpasjuste/device_nvidia_s8515), which i'm the only one if i'm correct. I think i could really help the development on this awesome device.
If some people are interested then we will setup something.
Thanks in advance for your time,
Cpasjuste.
I'm sorry but these type of threads are not allowed. You may use our built-in donation link feature.

To all Cyanogenmod lovers out there

Hi,
I just thought it could be worth mentioning that there's a device request thread on Cyanogenmod forums for our beloved Idol 3 :
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/111850-alcatel-onetouch-idol-3-55/
May I suggest that everyone who wants a Cyanogen rom to be ported on our phones should take a minute to register there and add their voices to the request ?
There's already 24 posts in this thread
Already demanded it
Cool
Just made a post, but later found out that posting a request for CM does not guarantee anything. In the sticky it states
Now, what does this mean to you? First off, requesting anywhere in the CM forum, the CM Blog, or the Facebook/Google+/Twitter accounts for device XX to be supported is probably a waste of your time and anybody who reads said request. CyanogenMod does not work on device requests as there is no guaranteeing that a current CM maintainer is even interested in the device. Additionally, its not as simple as 'porting' code, the device trees must be coded from scratch and made to work with the AOSP sourced code and CM enhancements. This takes a large amount of time and effort, especially when the device's OEM fails to release the latest version of Android for it. Second, in hoping a worthy developer sees the post and decides to take up the project... well, that is probably just wishful thinking. Many developers do not like interacting with end users (too much finger pointing between both devs and users or anger directed at the devs for something working other than how the user expects - it happens far too often); because of that, many developers don't frequent the forum (or if they do, they only view the forums for the devices they maintain).
The best way to get a device official support is not requesting it from the CM team, but learning how to do it yourself or encouraging a maintainer of an unofficial build to submit their code for review. Many developers will work on unofficial ports on the xda-developers forum, so that would be the first place to check out. If there isn't any work currently being done, you can attempt it yourself. There is a pretty in-depth article in the wiki explaining a lot of the steps of porting a device (as the bottom of the wiki states, nothing can cover every single process of porting, but it is a really great start).

So it would need to be someone willing to take the time out to buy an Idol 3, if one has not done so already, and then port the code for our device out of their free time. And considering the userbase for this phone does not seem all that large to be noticed, I'm not sure if CM will work on our phones anytime soon.
Well thank you very much for your posts and your research.
I'm afraid you're right, but we had to ask
Let's not lose hope too soon anyway, the fact that the device request thread exist seems to be a good point. I don't know if any device had received a CM port because of this thread, but... why not ?
I've red that Alcatel and cyanogen had been in contact for a tablet. The project has been cancelled but this might suggest they could have access to resources that would ease their work (pilots ?).
Original rom on the idol is pretty much stock Android, this is a good thing too (well I'm not a developer but I guess it's easier when it's close to the original).
And, like you said, even if the user base is not that large, chances that someone from cyanogen got seduced by the idol (like we did) are still possible... (this is the moment where everybody crosses their fingers ).
Anyway thanks again !
The thread has now 31 posts (ah no, 32 webgaffeur just added his voice !)
Thanks to all the people that took some time to post there, let's not give it up : it's time to flood the forum !
i had posted the github with source for the phone but no one seems to respond not even one single admin? we can ask other devs crdroid pacrom dirty unicorns paranoid etc.
Alas, I think Brian is right : it's probably a waste of time posting on the device request thread
I checked devices with a lot more posts and views than ours and... nothing from a dev (like huyawei and Asus zenforce 5).
Asking to other rom devs will probably be useless also. Our only hope is that a competent developer buy an idol and start working on it... If this happens, I'm pretty sure he will share his work on XDA.
Well, meanwhile we already have root, twrp and xposed working, so I guess the best thing to do is to customise out phones till it suits our needs and that's all.
Let's hope also that Alcatel will continue to push updates (marshmallow ?)
Anyway thanks for your efforts Gecko.
Sorry, didn't mean to rain on anyones parade. Just wanted to let everyone know what the stickied thread on the CM forum for device requests stated. I'm not saying it won't ever happen, just that it might take some time to get a valued reputable dev who owns, or wouldn't mind purchasing the Idol 3 and working on it for us. Most dev's accept donations of devices that want development on from the users, so if we were able to locate and contact a reputable dev, asking them if we were to provide them with the device, would they mind porting or creating a ROM for it. It's worth a try. Maybe start a bounty or fundraiser etc. I myself do not know of any dev's that would be willing to work on this device as the ones I do know of have only worked on Samsung devices.
I don't know any dev at all
P.S. : thread has 34 answers now !

Thanks to @purple.epod for posting the news.
From cirwl himself : "A couple of us have one, and kernel source was just released, so strong possibility of yes"
Yiiiihaaaa
this is great i hope that we get a nightly soon

Question Re: Lineageos on Samsung Galaxy S9

I'm looking into purchasing an S9 and would like to garner the community's views on the stability of Lineageos (starlte) running on the S9.
Some things I'd like to know are:
Are there any stability issues?
Are there any major features missing on starlte? calling, bluetooth etc
Presumbly the Samsung pay h/w option will be disabled once rooted - correct?
Any other issues should I need to know?

I don't have this device but, if your question is specifically LineageOS on the S9 then your best bet is to post this question within the following Official LineageOS thread for the S9.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3781656
If your question is regarding the device itself, then your best bet is to post this question within one of the following threads that's specific to device suggestions.

UNIVERSAL TREBLE IMPLEMENTATION FOR ALL TYPES OF DEVICES [Phones,TV,Box,Auto,Wearabl

It's not a joke.... sorry if forum rules are violated...
It takes many sleepless nights and lots of hardworks and efforts and lots more for a developer to build a project...... Thanks to many leading developers
But it's like the developers are not getting any results for their hardwork...... users are simply neglecting them....
Atleast we should appreciate them for their hardwork......Most of the users didn't even hit a thanks.....it's very pity.....we should do it and do an appreciation comment atleast..... Only then the device will be alive with updates....
How many of you know......the official Lineage OS support for many were stopped....??!!![Think of CM] This is the reason....
This is one reason why many talented developers ended their support...... And left the field.
Even I also didn't thank these developers in early days..... because I didn't even know how to do that....now I'm using Tapatalk app... Every users also should.....
Sorry.....for diverting from the subject......What I was saying that we need SUPPORT from all users for active developments....
IMPLEMENTING TREBLE IN OLDER DEVICES IS POSSIBLE....
ITS POSSIBLE TO TURN ANY OLDER DEVICE PROJECT TREBLE SUPPORTABLE.....IN A UNIVERSAL WAY....
If it's universal, it even don't need any recovery. There is more than one way for this
But it's takes lots of efforts and hardworks.....It need lots of knowledge and experience.....
And if you want TREBLE IMPLEMENTATION and many more projects, developers need to unite....
And we need all developer's support and need many talented developers back on the field again.....
YOU SHOULD SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THAT.....IF ITS LIKE THAT, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.....
HIT A XDA RECORD BREAKING THANKS AND COMMENTS TO THIS POST AND SEE THE MAGIC.......
Sent from my YU5510 using Tapatalk
.........So you don't have this magic universal treble guide just a rant about one?
Your keyboard is probably broken it sets after every half sentence at least 3 points.
