All apps crashing on Android P since this morning - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Things were going great the last few days on Android P until this morning. All of a sudden, post a few playstore app updates, the OS became unusable. Google Services (this apk possibly got an OTA update) kept stopping in a loop and all apps started closing....which ended up blocking me from using the phone (couldn't access settings etc. and was too lazy to adb into the device to troubleshoot). Ended up rolling back to oreo. Anyone else faced this?

More information please, where you rooted, custom kernel.ect

I was getting fc'z like crazy yesterday after a fresh install, what I ended up havingto do was a factory reset in twrp and have had none since.

No root, no custom kernel/recovery. Just pure Google provided images and apps from play store

no such issues here (yet).
clean install, no root.

Clean install of Android P with Magisk 16.1 last night. No issues so far but I'm not even 24 hours in. I do know that the Android P dev notes from Google report that the system can get extremely unstable over time. So the OPs issues make sense.
The way I'm looking at it is if my phone runs perfectly on Android P for 5-6 days before starting to hiccup, then I have no problem quickly reflashing Android P without wiping data every 5-6 days since it takes like 30 seconds and doesn't force me to re-download or re-setup any apps. To me, this would be worth it in order to run an otherwise stable version of Android that most other phones won't get until this time next year.
But, if I only make it 48-72 hours before the phone starts really acting up, I'll probably go back to 8.1 until the next iteration of Android P dev preview is released.

Clean flashed P the day it dropped, flashed magisk and flash when both were updated to support them. Only minor crashes every other day or so.

Playstore has a "huge" bug.Did you have beta apps (like WhatsApp,play services etc)? When you go to the tab "Beta" and try to hit on an application, playstore closes without fc message.

Clean install, no root. Widgets disappear randomly once or twice a day.

Stock launcher or a differnt launcher? I've been using Nova Prime since installing Android P 2 days ago and haven't had any issues with widgets disappearing or malfunctioning.

Stock Launcher. Might have to switch to NOVA. This is getting annoying.

After normal reboot I found myself back to factory settings

When I rebooted my phone this morning, it was essentially back to factory settings. The start-up wizard came up. All my shortcuts and widgets were back to the default and none of my apps were working.
Signing in to my google account seemed to restore most stuff. And the market still had a list of all the apps I'd installed, even if they were no longer installed. I had to uninstall and reinstall everything. Had to reset up the email app, twitter, facebook etc. SD card contents were still there.
Just to be clear, the apps weren't actually installed, they just appeared to be in the market.
This was just turning my phone on in the morning - I see no point in having it switched on all night!
Any idea what happened or why or whether it's likely to happen again??
I am sure some would like to help, however, your post is lacking many critical details:
1. Are you rooted?
2. What ROM are you on?
3. Did you install anything new or update anything yesterday?
Details, we're not magicians (ok, maybe some of the Dev's here are)...
sorry, bit of a noob!
i am not rooted, i have a stock nexus one running 2.1.1
last new thing i installed was a few days ago - a geocaching app. had normal behaviour with that installed for those few days. also have installed other updates for various apps.

No biggie, Look around at people's sigs and see how they are set up, gives much information without having to post it all the time.
As for the issue, not sure, never had this issue nor have I heard of it.

[Q] CM9 (SD Card) Google Play can't download some FREE apps anymore

I was running CM9 latest without any issues. I've downloaded a bunch of free apps...no problem.
All of a sudden, I can't download some FREE apps any more. I get the message :
"Error processing purchase"
Lots of people are having this kind of issue and I haven't found a fix for it yet. I have not tried uninstalling it and reinstalling yet.
I've tried clearing the data/cache in the app area. That did not help.
Its really odd.....some of the freebie's I can.....some I can't
Time and a couple of reboots seemed to fix that same problem (on a different ROM) for me.
I don;t think Google has all the bugs worked out of the new Play Market.. I get random errors on various apps when I try to update or download. Most work, but some can't finish the download or won't download at all.
Thanks......but very weird
Yeah, strange things happen on the new Play Market even on my stock Motorola Droid X2
So I shut the nook down for a while...started it up again and now I can download free apps again. No changes.
The problem was going on for days before I posted here.

Nahhhhhh , Google is playing with their Play implementation , getting ready for their big movie and cloud grand opening. I would expect random issues for a few weeks.
Something to look forward to!
PLAY is been a real mess.
It is not only in CM9, and it seems to affect only certain apps. I have the same problem with one game that I had installed on other SD several times before but have trouble today. While other apps installed fine.
Any possibility of reverting back to an earlier Market app if this continues? I don't have this problem (yet) but always anticipate the worst from Google. Running racks' triple boot now, everything hunky-dory.
I think the problems are on Google's server side not the app. I have seen reports from people that reverted back to old market and still had the problems.

UI has stopped

Ok I got my long awaited s7 edge today,I've been messing with it for hours, twice I set it up using my last phone backup and it kept getting touch wiz home has stopped error so I figured I had a corrupted file in the backup so I factory reset a third time and installed 467 apps one by one, took me 4 freaking hours everything was ok for awhile then settings kept crashing, then a rcp components has error kept popping up so I tried restarting then as soon as it reboots briefing crashes, then UI has stopped error kept popping up over and over and over! Ugh! I'm on my 4th factory restall. I'm not sure what is going on? Any suggestions?

Not trying to be smart here...but I would try not installing 500 apps lol chances are one of those apps is causing it
That's what I figured, probably a corrupted app or something to do with un updated apps clashing with Google now or marshmallow. A lot of my apps are widgets, live wallpapers, launcher themes, keyboard themes...etc,etc... So I just installed about 100 apps that are important. I've used my same back up in several phones, this is the first time I've had a problem. But I'm tired of messing with it,so far its doing ok. I'll just have to download apps or themes and widgets when I want to use them, they are all saved under my previous apps in Google play if I need to find them.
Jesus.....467 apps? I don't think I've even tried out 467 apps over the last 6 years on Android and iOS.

A bulk of those are themes and widgets,I'm not sure that's the exact number that's just the amount my backup listed,a lot could be system apps. I've realized I need to trim down as they do take up a ton of space. They are always saved under my apps in Google play so they are there if in need them. I'm a retired nurse,I did a career change around 2007 and got a 2 year degree in IT Technology,I now develop apps and do IT work out of my home. I used to be only iOS then I discovered android and a bunch of my apps are ones I've tried or saved through the years. It's time for a spring cleaning app purge.
Same thing is happening to my S7 that I long awaited to upgrade from S4.
In S4, I used to press the home button some time and the applications in the background came, I think in the Marshmallow they changed it to the setting button on the left of the home button.
When I pushed the home button in S7, Google app came out. I think I cancelled this command in settings yesterday night. Now when I push the home button sometime, "System UI stooped" notifications comes.
I tried cleaning the cache of the System UI app but it is still happenning.

Is nougat the king of crashes?

Seems ever since i update my s7 to nougat, and now have nougat on my s8, i'm dealing apps constantly crashing on a daily basis. Apps that never crashed before, ever, are constantly crashing on nougat. And by no means is this a samsung thing, because my friends sony z5 also has similar issues with nougat, what did google do that is causing these apps to crash?
I haven't had a single crash so far.
Not one crash either. You must have a rogue app. System reset.

No crashes at all.
Did you transfer programs, data from your old phone to new one using something like Titanium backup or smart switch? I read a lot of complains about stability issues from people doing that. Or like someone already said, some app creating issue, but not that easy to find which one.

Yes but i've reinstalled the problematic apps, same apps crashed on the s7. I mean it could be the app but they never crashed on android 6, and since nougat has been available to devs since march 2016 i'd imagine they'd fix any compatibility issues by now.
No crashes watsoever on niether my nougat s7 or s8.
I think you have limited options here: either reset the phone and reload all apps fresh from play store, or try to identify what causes the problem and there are few ways to do it. For the record my phone never crashed and I have it since day 1, but I did have couple apps that should be working, installed fine and crash the moment they start.
I had to factory reset out of the box after my first update. It sucked and was a bad first impressikn but it has been working ever since and I've had it for a week.

I used Helium on my S8 coming from S7 as Smart Switch was not importing my apps settings.
Backup went well, but I have some apps that force closes some time.
The funny thing is that I have force closes not on those apps where importing data was for me mandatory (like games or note apps), but on standard apps where I could even install them from Play Store.
I made backup of everything for simplicity, just for not having to insert all the logins and passwords for all my apps.....
I still can't understand why Smart Switch failed to import my data when I was coming from Samsung S7 with Nougat update, so if someone maybe knows why, please tell me...but as far as I've read, I haven't noticed big complain and force closes after importing with Smart Switch... Maybe they where importing from a non Nougat Samsung.....
In my actual case, resetting device would be a real problem as I have a lot of apps and reinstalling them would mean to lose an entire day in doing the job.
If someone knows how to fix things, maybe cleaning things up or so, please reply.
If there's no solution, I think I'll do only a data backup with Helium and then go through reset and consequent Play Store install of all apps list previously saved on AppBrain so to have the complete list already set...but it's still a huge work!!

2 s8's here and neither have crashed once yet. Do a factory reset, and install all your apps manually from the play store and be done with crashes.

Your crash seems to be isolated to one app. An app that I wouldn't be too surprised is crashing. The OP on the other hand post would seem to suggest he's expierencing crashes from multiple apps.

Verizon S10+ Android 10 very aggressive app killing

I recently upgraded my phone (Verizon S10+ 128GB) to Android 10 with the OTA update. Since then it appears that i can't keep any apps running in the background. Before i could have a Pokemon go running, go to something else for at least an hour, and when I switched back to it was still running and i didn't need to reload it. Now I will open Pokemon Go, go to a different app and within 15 seconds i go back to Pokemon Go and it has to reload. I have even added Pokemon Go to run in the background and to the exception list under memory. Is anyone else noticing this very aggressive app killing since they have updated to Android 10? I have also noticed that while using Nova Launcher there will be times when the home screen has to completely reload. The icons will take a second to appear and another second for the widget to pop up as if Nova Launcher was reloaded. Does this have to do with the the phone killing all the apps in the background?
I am not rooted or anything. This is a completely stock phone.
That's odd, I am on AT&T and haven't noticed it. Of course I use the 3rd party app greenify as well. Maybe try a data factory reset or reflashing the Verizon firmware with Odin?

Don't think so. I am experiencing this issue as well and the "Don't Keep Activities" option is turned off, so it's not the developer options.
I believe it is directly tied to the OTA update to Android 10 Q. I didn't experience all this force closing of apps before the update on Android 9.
I am curious if I changed the battery mode from "Optimized" in the Phone Settings (Settings > Device care > battery > Power mode) to maybe High performance would it fix the issue? If so, then we have a problem as selecting anything from High performance would kill apps such as Nova Launcher, or if you're editing a document and need to copy and paste from another app it would kill the other app before you can go back to it. This puts your phone back to iPhone 3GS era, and we don't want that
Hope someone finds a solution.
I did a recovery Data Cache erase and that seems to have fixed it. Something must have happened during the OTA. I haven't had any complaints now.

I have a UK, EE locked 10+ and this used to happen to me when i was running a high RAM app (games basically).
I also believe it has been reduced (eliminated?) from the last large fw update my phone went through a week ago (the samsung UI update, sorry thats a bit vague - as opposed to a more recent 128MB security update).
So i'd guess this is not carrier specific and relates to the samsung fw?
Hope this helps.
I'm experiencing this, and I've been on 10 since beta2, but it just started happening today. Even apps that I "lock" are closing almost immediately.....
