My phone won't turn on at all. Did I brick it? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This was my second time to flash a custom recovery but I messed up on a step and now I cannot on my phone nor go to download mode. My S5 is literally dead. Is there a way to restore my phone? I know the risk to rooting but didn't expect to make a mistake, if my mom finds out she is gonna kill me.

I'm sorry to see this happening to you and I've never had this happen to either of my GS5 devices but, the best that I can do to help you out is provide you with a few links that will, hopefully, be helpful for you.

Derp! The first link worked. I just need to hold the buttons longer to get into download mode.

2 turbos 1 bricked

Hello all,
I have a turbo that was on 5.1 but has since been soft bricked, I also have another turbo on 5.1 working no problem, I'm wondering if I can flash everything from my working turbo to my bricked one?
Seen this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/droid-turbo/general/turbo-unbrick-t3139811
If you open Device Manager in windows, what do you see? Adb, fastboot? QCom, qloader?
If you want remote help I will do it for you.

I use teamviewer you can revoke my access just by closing teamviewer. It generates passwords per use. No harm can be done.
I just spent the last 4 hours trying to revive a dead turbo remotely. You can't hate on me for trying.

His /system partition is hosed. Recovery and bootloader work. So does fastboot. Adb is in sideload mode only. Don't really have a choice since its been updated to 5.1, can't mofo /system back.
around next week we should have that firmware

Relax, it was a joke!
Your work has been in vain. I have already written that will only complete firmware.
When next week? What are your estimates?
4) Don't ask for an ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival):
Asking for an ETA is the XDA equivalent of telling a Developer that the free work they do just isn't enough for you. It usually comes across as rude and/or demanding, and most developers will take offense to it. Even if a particular Developer doesn't mind being asked for an ETA, there are many that do, and there's a good possibility that it will incite arguments in the forum. In the end, it's just best to avoid doing it altogether. If you have no other choice but to ask for an ETA (i.e. the work you're doing absolutely depends on it), then please, do it through a private message and keep it out of the public forums.

im not being impatient with a dev im being impatient with motorolla and verizon which everyone is!
my attempt to troll has not worked then.
Dude we are all frustrated with Motorola, I am still on 4.4.4 :'(

To any sprint user who has rooted using dirty santa or plan to root please look here.

Hello all! I am me2151 as you know as the poster of DirtySanta. I am in need of YOUR HELP now! I am working on a ZV6 base rom so other devs can update their roms but we have an issue. I need a STOCK system backup through twrp. This HAS to be done BEFORE flashing my sprint rom on the OP of Dirtysanta. If you have a backup already made PLEASE sent me a pm of it. If you have not rooted and plan to root please PM me ONLY if you are NOT on ZV6.
Unfortunatly any backup made AFTER flashing a rom will not work. I ONLY need a system backup made before your first flash.
Thanks, Me2151
Bump. If anyone has a unrooted v20 for the cause please pm us. We strictly need a fresh backup of a unmodified zv5 v20 post flashing anything. Stop after step 3 in dirty santa and use twrp to backup the system and upload via Google drive or android file host.
This would be extremely helpful.
I have rooted every single phone right up to my Nexus 6. I have to say, all the steps for the V20 have made me very hesitant to root this phone. I am not rooted and on ZV5. I am going to go read through all the steps again (For the 100th time) and see if I am willing to give it a go. I will report back if I finally grow the set required to do it

If you would like I can help you step by step to get your phone rooted and the backup i need if you want.I would use teamviewer to control the pc to basically do most of it. you would only be required to do a couple things on the phone and to download the rom you want. If you want stock you WILL have static unless you use the werewolf kernel. but im not sure of the bugs with werewolf.
Go ahead and PM me.
EDIT: If you wish to do it by yourself stop when you first boot into twrp and PM me so i can make sure the backup is done right.
unfortunately, i have nothing i can contribute to this effort. at some point in time, the backup that i did have went the way of the dodo.
just curious however....
will we (ls997 users) have to resort to finding a willing participant to root a phone each update?
it may be a dumb question, since zv6 going forward the CoW exploit was fixed, but, I will leave it there just the same.

No. The only reason we need someone this time is because i lost the previous backup i had when my laptop was stolen.
Well ****.
That really sucks to have to deal with crap like that from someone.

At the same time for this case it was also my fault for not thinking ahead and uploading it online for safe keeping
yeah but no...
backing up for backup sake, hard drive failure, operator error, those are things to be cognizant of, absolutely..
theft? not so much for me. im from a small enough town that i do not lock my car doors at night (granted, nothing is left in it to steal, but still..) usually.
theft for theft's sake is not something i am used to dealing with, and as such, it seriously chaps my ass to hear stuff like this.

I think I am going to give it a shot tomorrow. If I get stuck, I may take you up on your offer! I am guessing there is a way to do this without my personal information being tied to whatever base you create?

yes. we only need a backup of system. all personal information is located in data or internal storage. Speaking of storage. backup your internal storage tonight( just copy everything on there using windows and a usb cable) and download the rom you want to use.

Before you give up on this, I would encourage you to make the backup and send it anyway or at least keep it safe. Two good backups is better than none.

Is there a rooting/flashing method that bypasses it?
And even then, there's not much to lose really, right? Since Samsung isnt going to update it, and S5s dont have warranty anymore

Or you are just a lazy person and think that someone will actually spend time explaining how something's done.
On the second note, with that attitude, I hope someone will actually spend their time giving you instructions on how to brick the phone.

Unroot And Remove TWRP S8

Hey guys I rooted my S8 with TWRP and Magisk. Now I want to set my phone back to stock and sell it. What is the easiest way to do this?
I did the same in the past with an S7, I did a factory reset and it removed the root and went back to stock. This does not seem to work with the S8 though.
cheers

no. go to sammobile.com/firmwares and find the latest firmware for your device. Then get the Frija tool or SamFirm and download the firmware via one of those two tools (theyre both available by searching on XDA and they do the exact same thing, they just look a bit different) as they download the firmware literally 4 to 5 times faster and flash the stock firmware in Odin with the phone in DL mode. Be sure to flash the HOME_CSC to factory reset it and return it to a ready for sale state. Also, go into the settings and remove the fRP lock

I like your sense of humour I cant keep track of what forums have a thanks button and which ones dont so apologies for that. Because of this i try to make a point of thanking the person in writing at the beginning of my post. That way i am into the habit of politely thanking the person for taking the time to give me the help i need. So thanks again kind sir
I now understand what this FRP is, do disable it, do i need to login in to my google account on the device, then remove my google account, then do a Factory reset?

no worries about the thanking part an yep, a sense of humor is almost required these days!! i try to be at least a bit funny on most things i say because i feel we need more lightheartedness, so thank you for noticing!
But yes, in order to get the phone to not worry about being factory reset, you just need to log out of whatever google account is logged into the phone

Magisk is systemless root. It will never be reset by by anything within the OS. Only restoring the patched bootloader would remove the root. TWRP is the same. Download a stock image and flash via odin to restore the device.
