Network coverage - Sweden - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

My friend will get an Mi A1 from India and plans to use it in Sweden. Is there any difference in the Global Mi A1 and the Indian Mi A1? Does the Mi A1 in India support 3G and 4G frequency bands in Sweden? Just want to know about the network coverage of the Indian model in Europe , especially in Sweden .

Don't do it. The Indian model supports different LTE bands (3,5,40,41) and especially lacks support for the vital band 20.
Apparently all networks in Sweden (Tele2, Telia and 3) use bands 3, 7, 8, 20 and 38.
Band 20 is usually the most deployed one in all of Europe, as it allows higher range per BTS/cell tower and is therefore cheaper to deploy. It's especially used outside of urban areas. Either way, in the best case you're gonna be stuck with LTE in urban areas only. Based on personal experience I can tell you that owning a phone without B20 support is no fun in Europe, although I can't relate it to Sweden.
I suggest you get it through one of the Chinese resellers instead, such as a certain site with a name close to "best gears" *coughcough*...

It's true that band 20 is widely used in Europe. But is there really an Indian A1 version without it? A proper Android One A1 and not a 5X with A1 ROM?As I understood it, but I could very well be wrong, the A1 is only available as Global.
Either way, check the specs and make sure band 20 is covered and you're good!
Edit: Seems I was wrong! There seems to be an Indian A1 without band 20. http://www.mi.com/in/mi-a1/specs/

Redmi 3s with lte?

So there is a version of the Redmi 3s and 3s prime that is sold in Mexico that supports 4g lte (called only 4g in here)...
I was wondering, does it have different hardware? Or were the antennas for mexican 4g already there and activated via software?
I'm really confused on the subject and can't find any info as to why some xiaomi phones work with mexican 4g(Which uses some bands that are also used in the us).
I'm considering buying this or the 4 prime and was wondering if there could be a way to activate global lte on the 4 primer later on.
I was also wondering if I NEED to buy the phone in here to be able to use the 4g or if I might be able to pick up a phone from aliexpress and have 4g too.
Hope someone can help me with this info
The hardware is different but you can also get the LTE (4G) version for Mexico on Ali Express.
In Mexico you use LTE band 2 (Movistar: 1900 MHz) and 4 (AT&T,TelCel: 1700 MHz). So when you want to buy a Redmi 3S on Ali, make sure you buy the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Special Edition. It supports the LTE bands needed in your country.
!!
Thanks! =)
I was reading on sites that list the specs of the device but couldn't find anywhere that said that it supported lte bands 2 and 4 so I was quite confused. Thanks a lot.

Is anyone getting 4G in the USA with the Xiaomi Mi A1?

I purchased the Xiaomi Mi A1 in Thailand and get a solid 4G signal on the AIS network. I'm heading to the states this summer and I was told that this phone may not have the proper radio bands to connect to 4G in the states. Is anybody using this phone in the states and what has your experience been? My first choice is TING and my second choice is Straight Talk.
I bought the Global version and I'm in the US and using it on Ting currently it supports band 4 LTE
I have the "Global" version and get 4G with T-Mo...on band 4.
That's great news, thanks!
I have the global version on Cricket and get 4G.

chinese version vs global version

I got a question . I am from Romania and i bought the chinese 6/64 version of Redmi Note 7. Will the 4G work in Romania? My network provider is Orange. How can i check this info?
Are the chinese and global version same when it comes to supported 4G bands?
And the second question is if you can install the global rom on a chinese version of Redmi note 7? Will the B20 for 4G be automatically unlocked when installing the global rom? Those accepted 4G bands are a software or hardware thing ?
Thanks in advance.

check this out mate, it says here that the Chinese RN7 with LTE band B3 and B7 will work on Orange Network.. here's the link if you need all the info's regarding RN7 technical specs and comparisons. just navigate with the page and you'll find your answers:

B20 is available to Global version but not in Chinese variant..
Unfortunately, changing ROM won't change the modem ability to connect a band that it is not designed to manage. So, yes it is a hardware issue. The modem of the CN version of the Redmi Note 7 is probably able to manage the B20 technically speaking, but it doesn't have the proper embed instructions to do so. I have read some posts about flashing the modem. It is sometimes possible (when there is no hardware limitation), but honnestly, it is not something you can envisage to do by yourself right now, and until someone with good skills does it and share the method (if someone decides to challenge this someday...). The instructions are coming under binary codes. This is a real quest!
Buying a cellphone that doesn't manage the B20/800MHz in Europe is really a bad idea. B20 is the golden band in Europe, since this frequency allows the most performing penetration indoor, and offers the best distance range (about 15 km around the antenna communicationg on B20/800MHz versus barely 5 km around an antenna communicating on B7/2600 MHz). While using your phone in big cities, you will probably catch a B7/2600MHz or a B3/1800MHz signal on your network. But globally your experience won't be good. In many places where your friends using the same network will have a good signal, you will sometimes have a low signal or just no signal (or a switch to the 3G network). For example, when I check my LTE info right now, in a very dense area (Paris, where my network operates from B3, B7 and B20 antennas), my phone is connected on the B20. For sure, if my phone didn't manage the B20, it would connect alternatively to another available band. But if it "chooses" the B20, it means it's the best signal, so.... And now, imagine when you go to the countryside, where there are lessa ntennas, without being able to connect the antennas running the long distance range frequency... This can't be better.
Good luck, though.

Note 7 with LTE B28?

I have seen in some sites that Redmi Note 7 does not have the B28, but entering the brand's global site, says that there is this band, wanted to know who already has and can confirm if it is released on the device or not.
For those who want to see, here is the link to the Xiaomi Global website:

After looking in Kimovil all the configurations for the Redmi Note 7, I can tell you that there is a version with the B28 band. It isn't the Global one, nor the Chinese one, but the India/Taiwan/Malaysia/Polony one!! Here you have an screenshot:
Sorry but kimovil is the manufactur.
Trust mi.com! If They say global has band 28, than it has.
I have the global one, but No 28 LTE to Test it

Trust the manufacturer site, OK but the webpage doesn't mention which version/variant is described...
There are three models of Redmi Note 7, each one in différents variants (storage, ROM,...).
- M1901F7G : Global model, distributed through European Mi stores (including in France where B28 have been starting to be deployed), amongst others. B28 is NOT enabled. B20 (the main LTE band in Europe so far) is enabled, though.
- M1901F7H : Model with different versions/variants including some delivered with CN ROM (China) and others with APAC ROM (Asia Pacific i.e. Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia,...). This model has certification for B28. But only the APAC variant actually does have B28 enabled. On CN variants, there is no B28.
- M1901FYI : Indian model. No B28 here.
After looking in Kimovil all the configurations for the Redmi Note 7 said:
Beware! ID stands for Indonesia, not for India! Indian model is pretty different in terms of LTE bands. Also, PL actually seems to refer to Poland but this information is really weird since B28 has not been deployed in Poland and Xiaomi sells the Global model with Global/EU ROM in European countries where they currently focus on (Spain, Italy, France, this latest already using B28). A non sense, then... I don't know where this information come from.
Foxy, for what purpose do you need B28 (which network)?

Per the specs, it's obviously the APAC variant. It's a good move from Gearbest who meet the requirement of some Eurogeeks desperately seeking for a cellphone having both B20 and B28 enabled (subscribers the Free network in France). It may even not be a will from them, since they don't offer the M1901F7G anyways (only the CN and APAC variants then). Since the CN version is a real no go for EU customers, the APAC variant is just a perfect alternative as long as it offers all languages. And it is very probable the APAC variant natively includes multilanguage.

Thanks for the precisions!
So at the end (at least for european use) better go with the M1901F7H (APAC) as it has the 48Mpx camera and the B28 in bonus.
Question:
As i'm planning to root later, will there be restriction for B28 on Xiaomi.EU, MiGlobal or future Custom ROMS on this M1901F7H model?

It's what it looks like. I just asked Gearbest to confirm the model number. I will let you know if I get an answer.
The number of bands enabled on this models is impressive. It's not only the B28. This variant also have B2 and B4 which is pretty useful when travelling to the American continent! And none of the "Global Version" bands is missing on the APAC version. If this is confirmed, it's a shame that Xiaomi sells a so-called Global Version in official store although there is another regional version which is truly usable worldwide. Now I feel fooled after having bought my Redmi Note 7 in an official MiStore.
I don't know much the Xiaomi services you talk about but for the custom ROMs I don't see any problem as long as you use a custom ROM designed for the appropriate model (H in this case).
Edit: After further research, I couldn't find any track of an APAC version managing the B20... The Gearbest description seems to be copied-pasted from the Xiaomi global website herebefore linked. However this page list the specs of all the different versions together as one, which is pretty misleading. Better wait the clarification from GB, then...

EDIT: interresting post on this forum:
https://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/gsmgpspda/telephone-android/unique-redmi-note-sujet_32992_16.htm#t2428695
Xiaomi has on global site different bands than in FR and ES sites, and also on IT site has different bands from all of them.
Global: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20/28
ES: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20 (a few weeks ago ther was not B4 on Spanish site specs).
FR: B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/20
IT: B1/3/5/7/8/20
AFter checking again FCC certification:
https://fccid.io/2AFZZ-RMSF7H/Lette [...] er-4142497
And a unit bought by me in spain, i see that Spanish version is the M1901F7G and that does not have B28, and after checking all mi sites, I see that only some countries has B28:
· Indonesia
· Malaysia
· Poland
· Vietnam
So for this countries they have M1901F7H with B28. I have updated bands on Kimovil site, is hard to find real bands and we have not found any shop with B28 version

indonesia MI specs shows B20 B28.
https://www.mi.co.id/id/redmi-note-7/specs/
Same as the official Taiwanese store :
https://mobile.mi.com/tw/redmi-note-7/#specs
And with these LTE specs, it comes in two variants 4GB/64GB and 4GB/128GB (no 3GB/32GB like for the Global Version nor 6GB/128GB) exactly like the two options offered by Gearbest.
So yes, this phone with both B20 and B28 and much more exists. The remaining question is why Xiaomi made a so called Global Version that is way less global than this one? Is it just to save few dollars on European's customer account? :-/ Or for certification reasons?...

I live in Brazil and here the B28 is being widely implemented by the operators, to work with the B3 and B7, but the plan is that in some years the B28 becomes the main to cover the largest space of coverage areas possible.

There is no M1901F7H global version.
The Global Version is M1901F7G.
The official Xiaomi website says that it has B28 700Mhz
Unfortunately, so far nobody can confirm this is true.
From what I find online, the only variant that has B28 is M1901F7H. It is sold in Taiwan and a few other APAC countries like Singapore.
I have a RN5 with H at the end in model number (taiwan version). Shows B28 with LTE Discovery, but most of the time it shows B2. My operator uses both. Just tried G ending RN7 Global and only shows B2, no B28, tried several times. Even in moments when my RN5 showed steady B28, switched sim card and no B28 in RN7. So it seems like it's not supported. Just opened dispute with AliExpress, on the listing it showed B28.

None of the sources that say the "G" version lacks B28 is believable. They mostly get the information from the User Manual, which does not list B28 (but that could be an error since it was probably copied from another version of the manual).

The only definitive way to test is to find out which towers are carrying B28 ONLY for 4G for your carrier/operator. In Australia we have a website called oztowers.com.au that allows us to do this, you probably have one too.
Find a tower that only has B28 for 4G for your carrier, and travel to it. Park next to it and see what happens.
There is little confirmed information about B28 and it is confused.
Several stores in Aliexpress are listed as B28 in the description of RN7. However, the review image posted by the buyer is M1901F7G.
Are the descriptions of these shops false?
I asked a few shops about B28, but the shops only replied "This is a global version".
I am also curious about global version and am buying from the US. Need bands 2 and 4 which site do u guys suggest I order from? And does gearbest sell unlocked ones but not aliexpress?

Xiaomi Mi A1 - How do I get LTE on this phone with TMO/ATT in the US? READ

I have heard mixed things about the LTE bands that the Mi A1 supports. Can anyone clear this up for me - will the Mi A1 work on T-Mobile or AT&T or any of their prepaid or MVNO counterparts WITH LTE? I seem to only get 4G at best.
TIA, cheers!
