Microphone issue - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi, i have my S8 for a week now
but yesterday
i noticed that the mic stoped working, the recorder was the last app i used.
i have made a factory reset but no change,
the fix telling that dust was the problem seems not to professional about it
so a launched the sound recorder again then i tried a call and it worked back, the recorder asked about authorisation and i think it was the real issue
mic needed authoisation but no notification and the phone app / dialler only wasn't working.
but now it's ok again
please a confirmation will be great from other owners / users of S8

Microphone Issues on Asus Zenfone 2 Laser Ze550kl

Hello All
I bought myself an Asus Zenfone 2 Laser Ze550KL a couple of weeks back.
An overall good phone. But I am facing an irritating issue.
The phone's microphone does not work from some point onwards. Once this happens, when attending(or making) a call, the other person wont be able to hear me.
I am not sure whether its a hardware issue or a software issue. Because once I restart the phone everything is perfect once again. After maybe a couple of calls, the problem resurfaces.
I read in multiple forums of this issue (even in Zentalk) , but nobody has a clean solution. Some of the solutions were -to disable Ok Google Detection, to enable call recording, to switch to loudspeaker, to reboot the phone and so on.
Enabling loud speaker works for me. When I realize the other person cannot hear me, I switch to loud speaker and then he is able to hear me.
Did anybody come across this issue? Is it a software issue? Any help/ideas/suggestions would be nice.
I am hoping its a software bug which will be hopefully fixed in the next system update or so.
Thanks
Hmm that's an odd one I can tell you that I have call recording enabled on a ze551kl and haven't had this issue, but I'm not sure if its specific to the 550 or not. I haven't actually recorded any of my calls, it just pops up and asks me if I want to every time and I tap cancel.

Its not about recording calls.. Its about the recipient not hearing me. The microphone is what is bothering me. I doubt the issue is with the noise cancellation of microphones. Perhaps cancelling more than noise.
When I reboot the phone, everything starts working normally. After a few calls the problem returns, the recipient not hearing me!.
The temporary fix for me is switching to loud speaker. I dont know why, but the mic starts working when in loud speaker. The moment i switch it back to handson, the recipient is again not able to hear me.
Read a few forums in zentalk reporting the same issue

I am seriously hoping it is a software bug which would be fixed in the next update or so.
I tried the hardware test which behaves differently when the problem occurs and when it is problem free.
The hardware test is perfect if i test the mic just after reboot and when everything is normal.
But once i find out that the recipient is unable to hear me (after maybe a couple of calls/days after the reboot) , i did the hardware test again and certainly was different. A buzz at all times with my voice being completely muffled. Something to do with the noise cancellation mic i believe.
I have tried disabling OK Google Detection.
I have tried enabling call recording.
I have tried reseting factory settings , clear wipe partitions etc.
I have tried enabling dialer pad tones (Dont know why this was marked as a solution in some forums)
But all of the above was not a solution for me. Switching to loudspeaker works. And rebooting the phone (which is irritating during important calls) also works.
Any help would be nice.

To OP,
This is for most of the guys. It's a software issue, dont worry, Just update to latest update. Which happened to me the same, and solved when i updated some random OTA update fix by asus. So the current version on my phone now is LRX22G.WW_user_1.15.40.639_20151029044030520_201505210103

Hi I too have this same issue. I believe it is a faulty model from Asus! I had serviced my mobile last month and the Subboard assembly has been completely changed by those people but still I face the same issue. . Hope I will throw away this bulsh**t soon. Asus not willing for replacement too I argued so many times which is just waste of time. Totally a waste of money and time.
Microphone issue
I am also having same problem once restarted phone is all fine...should i replace phone ??
Bought just 2 days back
Solution
Since you apply this solution the error has not returned to flicks: I cannot post the youtube link, but search the title: Solved: Asus Zenphone 2e mic problem by Jack Scorpion.
I have the same device with the same problem! It was neglible before, and it happened very rarely. But recently it had become worse and that thing happened to all the calls. Switching to loudspeaker works (loudspeaker mode disables the bottom mic and switches to top mic). I reset the device to factory settings (that thing wiped the internal memory too!) and since then, i haven't updated the 'ASUS Calling Screen' from the play store and everything works fine atleast till now.
hai friend try (ASUS ZenFone 2 Laser=ZE550KL (Z00L) software Image: 1.17.40.1234 for WW SKU only) this firmware from asus site or try system update form your mobile. thats old version runing firmware running on your mobile so thats a software problem. this a network issue in that old version asus team doing always best i am also have same problem in past month but my current update installed after working fine. so don worry friends

Try disabling Audio Wizard app
I am also facing same problem. Suddenly the mic of my asus fails to work.
Solution
There is solution. Please post it on another forums after you will check it.
Just hold your phone in your hand in position, which will make sound to reflect directly into your voice microphone. This way you will make a difference in signal between voice and noise cancellation microphone. That's how voice cancellation technology works. I have got this result after one week of search for any effective solution. And did not find any useful info. So I have find a solution after some experiments.
Please post it to another forums if it will solve your problem.

Help : Microphone Issue with N910F

Hi guys
I've had the Note 4 for a while but only had an issue I think after the marshmallow update. The microphone doesn't seem to pick up any sound: tried to record a voice memo and it's blank. WhatsApp calls, the other person can't hear anything, Snapchat doesn't record any sound. Weird thing is that when I call someone with the normal dialler it picks up sound fine. A restart fixes the mic issues and works well, but after charging the phone the mic stops working again. Any solutions?
Unlocked, Not rooted, Knox tripped though, & running android 6.0.1
I have the exact same issue when I moved to the German 6.0.1 N910FXXS1DPE6 ...
Restarting fixes it but is a pain in the ass

I have the same problem. How did you handle it

Earpiece, Microphone stopped working but in loudspeaker mode its working.

Hi, I'm facing issues in Moto X Play XT1562 (Android 6.0.1). Suddenly 2 days back the earpiece and mic stopped working also while playing audio/youtube videos no sound in mobile. While calling and holding the device to my ear the display is not getting turned off. But every thing is working if I plug wired headphone. In loudspeaker mode call is working fine.
I have also done factory reset but same problem exists. I also noticed that some time the its working fine, since last night I am facing the same issue. So I guess its not an hardware issue. Please provide solutions.
my office mates has same (exact) same issue with moto x play .. some time it works some time not .. flashing is the only key to get voice back ..
it would be better to flash custom rom like RR .. may be your problem will resolved !
by the i also have moto x play & i dont have this issue !
I had the issue with loudspeaker just once time so long..a singke reboot had solved my problem..
Peace to all
I have the same problem on XT1563, also tried custom roms but still fails, can this issue be resolved?
I've just started to have this problem on Moto X Play but with microphone only. Calls can only be made with loudspeaker and hands free. Voice recording and TTS not working though, video camera records sound as usual. Perhaps video uses a different microphone, but I'm not sure, I'm not able to clarify that yet since I couldn't find no hardware information about this phone anywhere. If video camera uses the same mic used for calls and voice recording, then that means microphone is actually not damaged and it's a software related PITA. With an answer for that question I could dedicate my time to search for the responsible bug; However, I've tried many of the available "fixes" on that matter (reboot, factory reset, wipe cahe, delete apps) and none of them had any effect on the issue. So I will inspect inside the phone to see if I can find some physical damage. If not, replacing the mic would be my last bet...

Really? I have SD maid pro version installed. I've cleared dalvik/cache through TWRP to no avail. What did you cleared exactly? My issue is on the microphone, but I can give it a try. Something tells me it is not a hardware issue

Microphone Not Working

Hi, I have a strange problem with my Oneplus 8 Pro. After updating to 10.5.10 the microphone is not working for all the apps. I can place calls normally, call using messenger and record videos but it does not work for Google Assistant and the official Recording App or Facebook messenger when recording a voice clip. I even tried it in safe mode but still the same issue. I have also checked that the apps have access to the microphone. I reinstalled 10.5.10 hoping to fix this issue but still the same happens. What can I do? I am also rooted with magisk but I don`t have any new modules that can interfere with the microphone. The phone has previously worked normally with root so I don`t think it is the problem. Does anyone have the same issue?
So you did go all the way back to factory reset correct? If not you're going to have to do that or start uninstalling one app at a time or if you have Titanium Backup you can freeze the apps. I'm sure it's a rogue app somewhere or something got switched in your settings.
I had same problem , i got my problem solved , just blow air on mic at the bottom , and also clean it , issue will be fixed !

Also install magisk module for enabling factory mode and test the mic , go to single mic test , there you test all the three mics seperately , enjoy !
Experiencing the same problem
I'm experiencing the same problem. OnePlus 8 Pro, except it's not rooted or running magisk.
The microphone works for some applications but not for Google assistant at all. I have tried all known fixes I could find by searching. Clearing Google app cache and storage, etc.
Also I find that the first 5 seconds of WhatsApp voice message recordings I make are silent. Not sure if that's related..
Any suggestions?
Hie, even I am facing the same problem. My google Assistant was working well but after I updated, it is not responding also my official recorder app and my Instagram video call works well but videos don't have any sound ...
Have you got a solution to it? Please lemme know I am just too stressed.?

Hey @ananya_arora157. I'm not having an issue with sound playback, just sound recording. Maybe your video sound issue is a seperate one?
Just came here to also say that recently I have had my microphone working in assistant without doing anything. However it's now not working. I have this intermittent issue in other apps too, like DuoLingo. Sometimes when it asks you to speak what has just been spoken to you it works, other times it doesn't.
I'm convinced this has something to do with OxygenOS not providing access to the correct microphone for the app, or the app not using the right microphone. This happens with WhatsApp as well, as mentioned above. Please can someone on the OxygenOS or OnePlus team respond here? I've seen a few comments here and there of this happening to others as well so it's a known issue. It's a real problem with this happening to a flagship phone. Why are we just getting silence in response?
This also happened to me

This also happened to me. All microphone related applications fail for the first 5 to 7 seconds. Then it works normally. Some applications such as Camera, Messenger, ...[/U][/U][/B]
I had almost the same issue but with my last xiaomi. The reset to the factory settings didn't work for me, so I had to change the microphone.
Same here. I can make calls, and voice to text with gboard works.
But hey google, alexa and all other voice recording apps stop working since two days on my op 8 pro
I'm getting the same problem. Anyone found a fix for this?
Exactly same problem here after the OS update
Microphone is working for some apps but not for others. It was working fine earlier but stopped working for phone recorder app and for ok google..any resolutions here?
It seems to be a common issue among many others, so OnePlus team should take it into account and must provide a fix ASAP.
Might be a good idea to state what OS you're all on and perhaps what mods you have installed then maybe a coming fault can be identified.
Also if a custom kernel is installed.
I have the same issue. Phone calls and video recording don't seem to have any problem. Only voice messaging for all apps are error. Go as far as doing factory reset but it still doesn't work.
Any idea how to solve it?
I just bought it for few months and the experience is great except this one.

Yes I found the fix. After all factory resets and downgrading OS didn't worked. So I tried to blow bottom mics from dust and it started working. So stupid but effective.
Has anyone found a fix for this, I recently started having issues.
Stock cam video does not have sound.
WhatsApp cam video does not have sound.
Signal app cam video has sound.
Calls, call records, voice messages have sound.
Google assistant is working.
I am running 11.0.2.2 IN11DA. All issues are there in safe mode.
I cleaned all mics.
Please help.
Well, in my case (and I would bet that in yours too) it is the Google application. Once disabled everything returns to normal. I will have to do tests if it allows to use it by touching the microphone icon in the search bar, but activating the voice command OK Google makes the microphone not work in any other application.
