I've asked the Devs to port S9 over to my Motorola StarTac first. Then someone asked for a port to the Nokia 5100... If they have time after that MAYBE.

I speak seriously... Don't speak over the subject and speak about the subject
The galaxy note 3 have necessary performance to run android oreo with Samsung s9 features. 3go ram and quad-core 2.26 GHz are very good to run this.
Why not, maybe, because I love to think in the future, add à custom kernel with à little overclock cpu and gpu ( maybe 2,5 GHz for the cpu and 500 mhz for the gpu)
"old" hardware are large capacity to run New Android, New rom, I don't want to buy a s9 that Cost 1000-1200€... I love my note 3 and I think seriously he have all capacity to run a s9/note 9 rom with android O

Not sure if that's classed as abuse .
However its up to Developers to choose what they want to do . That is often down to a lot more than just xxx release . Hardware drivers etc all come int play .

Devs are successfully port note 8/s8 rom to the galaxy note 3, but in marshmallow rom... Is it possible to port s9/note 9 with Android 6.0.1 like for exemple magma nx ?
Drivers are in 32 bits for the note 3.. Is it possible to convert 64 bits drivers to 32 bits drivers? This Question is for transition between Android 6 with Android 7 or 8.
Thanks for your answers,

n9005 is better the the n900, but if custom roms is a concern for you, then n9005 is the right one.
in doing daily tasks, there are no noticeable differences except for battery life which i read that it is better on the n9005.
if you can get someone to buy it for you (n9005) and check for hardware issues, it would be great.
i myself had to buy it from outside my country (my cousin bought it and sent it to me) and got it right with no problems from the first time.
i bought the n9005 version because custom roms are a big concern for me (you know, why am i buying an android if i'm not going to mod it?)

For all intents and purposes, you will always want to stick with the Qualcomm Snapdragon version of any phone, including the N900x. The Samsung Exynos SoC may be able to provide you with better battery life and performance (Samsung's approach to controlling both hardware and software of their devices like Apple), but the weak developer support is simply not worth it. And all versions of the Qualcomm model (with the exception of Verizon's) are the same International version with an unlocked bootloader, and therefore can be flashed with any ROM from the Android Development forum.

Exynos device is not supported by many good devs, so really, if you want to use custom roms on your phone, then you are better buy an snapdragon version

ROM Porting?

Hello there. I recently acquired a Samung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1. I love the tablet but there has been no ROM development as of yet. In my understanding, this is due to the fact that the 8.4 version is much more popular and shares architecture (Snapdragon) with many other devices making it easier to develop for. In looking at the 10.1 specifications, it seemed like the Nexus 10 and Tab Pro 10.1 had many similarities (including Samsung manufacture and Exynos 5 chip). So, my question is whether or not a Nexus 10 ROM could be easily ported to the Tab Pro 10.1? I am not a developer, so forgive my ignorance and naivete if this is a ridiculous question.
If they are very alike it is a bit easier. But you might be better of building from source.

Have you seen this guide? Samsung has that um... unique TW UI so trying to port AOSP based Nexus 10 roms will almost certainly fail (unless there's already CM or AOSP for the Tab but based on what you said that doesn't seem to be the case). Also the Nexus 10 has the Exynos 5 Dual while the Tab uses the Octa. Check out the Exynos Wikipedia page and try a TW based ROM from something else with the Octa but it still seems like a bit of a long shot too me. Good luck.
Also, mrgnex is right that building from source is probably better. But if it's not already supported by CM or AOSP you're out of luck. Samsung has opensourced the code but it seems kind of silly to build a TW ROM from source since most of the custom TW ROMs are just baked from the stock ROM.
As I said, I am not a developer. Thanks for your replies.

The 32 bit will be fine for the next few years, not much is utilizing the 64bit at the moment anyway, android M is scheduled to hit the note 4 in Febuary 2016

Wait for Note 9 or just purchase the Note 8 ?

Note 8 :
- Root + Xposed Now
- Slightly Cheaper
Note 9 :
-Better Hardware - Same screen
-No root and xposed
-Possible better LTE support , VoLTE on latest update

I wanted participation from current Note 8 owners. I looked deeper and there seems to be no Note 9 .

Hardly - they are generic phone recommendations, not a specific comparison between two devices.
From my perspective, if you are happy to live with the stock Chinese ROM for a month or two then I would wait for the Note 9. if you want something that has customisation support (TWRP and some Custom ROMs) out of the box then the Note 8 is still a nice device. I would recommend the Google Integration ROM if you chose a Note 8, but I am slightly biased
I also recently bought a Mi Max Global Version and, despite the weaker SoC, this is a really nice device with fewer out-of-the-box issues than the Honor devices.
Mike
My thinking is the Note 9 is mostly a lateral upgrade.
Slightly larger battery, possibly offset by a slightly faster/thirstier(?) processor, a bit more ram (pointless?).
Otherwise the same,. EXCEPT MUCH better cameras! (hopefully!)
Frankly, the camera in the Note 8 is no more than decent.
Dual Leicas on the back? Hell yes please! PLEASE!
I love my Note 8, and people's reactions when I whip it out.... priceless.

Android Go, any chances to get it on galaxy s5?

Hello everyone,
I've been reading about the new google project Android go which will bring all the low resources phones android 8.1 optimizing the ram usage and many other aspects so that 8.1 can run smoothly.
Our galaxy s5 is now getting a "low end" phone even if it is simply amazing, so I was thinking, for people like me who love touchwiz, android go is a new hope to get android 8.1 officially and to give a new and longer life to our loved phone.
How about it developers? do you think it will be possible to get a ported versione for our galaxy s5? At the moment it seems that lineageOs staff is working on it already.
How about you galaxy s5 users? would you like to have it on your phone? what do you all think about it?
I'm happy to read your impressions and hopes, please leave a comment :fingers-crossed:

Thank you....I was hoping to get a "ported" version of the android go from samsung to get and "official" android 8.1 on our galaxy s5 keeping the great camera quality and audio quality avoiding to move to a non touchwiz rom, it would be great! I personally think that it won't be something impossible and I hope to see it soon on xda I tried already the file in the link and I personally don't notice a great improvement on a 6.0.1 android rom as it is optimized for 8.1 android. anyway thank you so much :good::good::good:

You won't notice any big difference since the S5 hardware is still capable of handling Android 8 flawlessly, you may notice some improvement on increased internal storage capacity and ram management when running a lot of apps.

Did you mean like we will get official android 8.1 touchwiz rom?? Ported tw roms available but almost roms are unstable. Am glad if developers design new official android 8.1 tw rom to s5 without porting other tw phones rom.
