LED Cover - Can we expect a better build quality then S7 version? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Accessories

Loved the LED View case on my S7 Edge, but I went through two of them as they stopped working. Personally believe it was a design flaw to be honest, as the connector which is in the fold of the case seems to go faulty over time. On the S7 version you could quite clearly see the connection under the case material. Looking at videos and photos of the S9+ version it looks like they may have changed it's construction. Did anyone else experience issues with the LED case? I skipped the S8 so don't know what that version was like (if exists?). Sure hope they have improved on the build quality anyway.

I didn't have the S7 version, but I do have the S8+ version.
Short of being somewhat less-than-protective, I did not experience any issues with it.
As you point out, seeing the S9+ version photos, it appears they have incrementally improved the design from an external perspective - but we know nothing of the internals.
I will probably wait for the price to drop by 50%, as it did with the S8 cover, before considering it however.

I had the LED case for the S7 Edge and sent it back because of the quality. Had the case arrive today for the S9+, The quality looks a lot better, the cover is slightly textured and patterned. Looks nice. I didn't see the connector inside but didn't have a close look. I will give it a try when the phone arrives hopefully Thursday or Friday.

It's the S9 led view cover =)

I've got the S9 Plus LED Case. All day I've been looking for ways to make it work, exactly like on S8, what a pain this is. The message icon works, but forget Twitter, Facebook etc etc.
Just got an Alcantara Cover & Whitestone Dome Glass, I'm sending this back.

>>> Build Quality - The Good, Bad, Ugly <<<

Good : Well i love the new tablet and in hand its light and a pleasure to use, the Plastic back is nice in hand and not slippery and visually this tablet is great. But ...........
Bad and Ugly : Here's my issue with the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
What is happening and i can see this being a big problem down the road of use is that when i hold the Tab with my left hand in portrait with the dock connector on my palm of the left hand, the thin piece of the housing is getting bent and pulled away from the glass and over time i see this getting stretched out. i think Samsung should have built the aluminum edging more webbing in the glass to keep that delicate piece from being so flexible and flimsy.
Anyone else having/noticing this issue or any other flaws, defects ????
Here's a few pics of what i am mentioning :

Damn, and here I was pondering returning my Transformer for a better build quality Samsung. Shootz!
I still may do it though since I never use portrait mode and for the most part it will be on a stand, but still, it sucks to see that.
You must have a 10.1v
I have the Google i/o edition and the side looks different than your with regard to the placement of those round hole covers on either side in relation to the curve.
I think that on the i/o (hopefully it will be the same as the 10.1) it has resolved that issue. I am trying to hold it as you are mentioning and I see no movement whatsoever. even if i try to pry at it, it is super solid.
is your a 10.1v?

mines from San Fran USA - Dev Conference , its the white back Limited Edition
Everyone needs to specify details regarding there unit if they have one. It is clear that the limited edition/early release galaxy tabs are not identically the same as the one yet to be released.
thats really strange, your tablet looks way different than mine which also came from the recent i/o event.
picture attached...
it would seem there were multiple version of the same device if you have the limited edition white backed then...
anyone else? which do you have?

im trying to re-create your picture to make sure its not an optical illusion, but your bottom half of the silver bezel looks so angular/curved compared to mine which as you can see from the picture above is much less curved. Espeically noticeable with the small round hole covers on either end of the connector, mine are not very curves, yours seemvery curved and angular.

I don't understand - are you using it while something is plugged into the dock connector, or is just from normal use? Maybe you are just holding it wrong?
normal use , i take very good care of my toys hahaha
And no i don't have it plugged in when using it
if you hold it left handed its normal i find that the palm and strong of the thumb seem to put stress on the thin strip of aluminum and slightly pulls it away from the glass since on mine the thin strip is not any thicker under the glass as what i can see visually. so its seems to be a weak point of the aluminum bezel
Bummer i wonder if a port plug would help.

I am not experiencing that same problem, but the glass in one of the corners does appear to be pealing up. Link below. Hoping that this is as far as it raises, but who knows... I talked to the Samsung guy at Google I/O and had my first device replaced for a similar issue I noticed there, and he said this first batch was made by hand in a bit of a rush so that they would be available for us googlers. I expect that the automated and machine driven build process for the production units will have more consistent quality.

Harsh that looks bad. I think the quality of the aluminum bezel is to thin and over time with alot of use our holding styles will cause these kind of issues.

Just got off the phone with Samsung about this issue. They will allow me to send the unit to them for repair/replacement. Im just a little worried about going through the whole process only to find that they will send me back a unit with similar or worse build quality issues... Anyone else noticing problems with the screen raising up? Might just stick with what I have for fear of winding up with an even worse unit. Really was starting to fall in love with this thing.

I'm getting the same thing. Mine was this way out of the box at the conference, and with the plastic back pulling back, it looked like the tablet was warped. I popped it back into place and it looked good so I didn't say anything to anyone at the conference about it. I probably should have though, because now the screen is separating from the housing again in those two corners.
I stupidly threw away the blue card they gave at I/O that had the contact info for Samsung, who did you talk to about getting it repaired?
Not exactly getting a warm fuzzy feeling from this thread. I pre-ordered online. Starting to think I might want to cancel that and just wait for it at Best Buy, if even the Samsung tablets are having build quality issues.
Oh no. I was afraid these reports would begin to surface on the 10.1. Some of these issues described Ive seen in the 10.1v as well, although my biggest gripe with these is the severe backlight bleeding. I have now exchanged this device with Vodafone AU twice and seen a total of 6 units and all have had backlight bleeding and inconsistent build quality.
With the first unit I received both right corners of the screen were popping out over the bezel a little. I believed it to be a problem with the adhesive used, because if you were to put pressure on the corner it would hold for a second then release, and you could hear the "sticky" sound as the adhesive separated.
All the units I've sampled though have had really shocking problems with backlight bleeding/leakage. If you're someone who planned to watch movies on this tablet in dimly lit rooms, you could find this distracting. I do. Its a shame really because I otherwise like the quality of the display, and both 10.1 models are nicely designed and nice to hold. In a lot of ways I prefer the feel of the 10.1v over the iPad 2. Too bad though that the build quality is questionable across the range of what is now 3 different variants of the 10.1 that Samsung has produced. What's the deal Samy?!
I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet but most likely I'll return this 10.1v to Vodafail for a refund and wait it out for the 8.9. Perhaps I'll have better luck then?

Questioning my purchase...hand discomfort.

Hey everyone...
I love just about everything with my new S6 Edge...but I have to say that the narrow metal band around the sides starts to dig into my hands after using it for a while, and gets uncomfortable. I am kind of wishing I went with the regular S6 now...
I guess I could get a case to help with this...?? I usually hate cases and would want something absolutely minimal..maybe even just a bumper case.
Thoughts or recommendations?
That sucks...I hope I don't have this issue. Also, why not go exchange it?
having same issue with me though is weneva i type n use one hand n say i get to the other side of the keyboard i smash into another letter...I believe a case will help i just ordered mine.

Which cases did you go for?
The Edge is so think and slippery it's probably a bad idea to carry it naked. I have big hands and it does feel awkward to hold. I'm debating if I won't to go get the clear T-Mobile case at cost or save a few more bucks on Amazon. I just want something now. As far as going with the S6 I just like the look of the Edge a lot better.
I went for the spigen neo hybrid it provides not only a nice grip but also protection it also comes with a free screen protector. Should look into it
Same issue here. I was already going to send mine back because of scratches, but the more I use the edge, I'm thinking I'd be happier with a regular one. I'm torn because I think the regular one looks awful, where as the edge looks gorgeous. The digging into awful, I could probably get used to it, but I'm just running into little usability things here and there making it tricky for me to use. I use my phone a lot one handed in landscape mode, I barely ever use portrait view. I'm finding it's hard to grip one handed in landscape comfortably, and the screen ends up registering my fingers that are holding onto the phone since I need them to be a bit more tight and on the screen when im doing one handed. If it had a little more side to it , I dont think this would be an issue, and wouldnt dig into my fingers. Also it's a ***** getting off a flat table. I love the bubble effect the edge has on video though, really makes it pop. I'm afraid I'll be sacrificing too many positives for comfort and functionality.
This is the only thing that has me at a crossroads between both phones grr,
I'v read a lot about the S6 Edge being sharp after continuous use and talk about the color problems with a pinkish discoloration that only effects the S6 Edge. However the price is probably justified, I mean how many phones look this sleek and eye catching? Probably saves me from spending it on other random **** so might as well invest, plus developers will be working on tonnes of additional features for the Edge's capability, I think the stock features are just the start of great ideas.
However the cons about the regular S6 make me look back to the Edge ha it's a roundabout, I'll admit when I went into O2 UK and experienced the phone first hand I loved it, I own a Iphone 6+ and comparing it with the regular S6 minus the screen difference I found it hard to differentiate the two afar, the beveled edges and design positioning (speakers, power input etc).
The Edge gives a remarkable & memorable first glance I WANT IT feeling however the recent user reviews are wavering my urge to preorder the phone or purchase on-release. I'm not sure how the sharp edge where the glass meets metal will effect the user? I don't want to buy a phone that hurts ha i'm not buying a phone to experience pain after 20 minutes of use in one-hand, or isn't it as bad as first put?
I would hate regretting my decision in buying the Edge, I'm not a hate on apple person I have an Iphone and have owned many android devices mainly HTC and wanted to try out an Apple product, but I find it hard to tell the regular S6 apart from a IP6 apart from specifications.
In the end I'll probably go with my gut and purchase the Edge, the emerald color looks magnificent but there's been no answer on which carrier will stock it or when, hints on end of July but I can't wait that long ha, the black/navy looks amazing, black in the dark but a great navy hue in light is amazing, the fingerprint problem isn't a biggie, quick wipe on your shirt and it's sorted?
Any Edge users comment on the sharp issue or have experienced any discomfort in using the device?
--- I want it ))))
Yea its discomfort but a case should solve the problem. Its hard getting use to this phone as the screen pops out instead of the back. Also headphone jack on the bottom is weird to me. Other than that phone is a beast picture quality is amazing.
I use to have this problem with my note edge. Once you put a thin case on the phone it's feels amazing, almost like Samsung built the phone with the intentions of having a case on
Sent from my SM-N915V
I had a similar problem. The metallic edges I didntnfind were to sharp...but The thinness of the phone + a flat back + slipperiness made it kind of awkward to hold.
I have a spigen case that definitely made it more comfortable to hold. The edges are thicker and softer as well.
I was going to go caseless but I didn't want to take any chances. Once I put the below case on it its even better. I think it's perfect. Good Grip and minimal bulk.

Stupid Question about the case, It doesn't effect the usability of the Edge (screen) does it? I.E Swiping from the right/left
Thanks
Have any of you bought the bumper case by spigen? I am thinking about picking it up.
Other than the sharp sides, I don't really have anything bad to say about the phone. It looks stunning, has been nice and peppy, and battery life has been fine for me.

No issues what so ever with the case and the screen. Fits perfect.
OP, i warned people before the phone ever came out.. i posted what you're experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/s6-s6-edge-t3043748/post59649530#post59649530
i kind of got trolled and glad to see i was right...
guess all you can do is get a case to cover up those razor sharp edges :cyclops:
Man, this post kinda bothers me now about the Edge. I normally like to rock my phones naked, because I like showing off the beauty of my phones. Now I've got some thinking to do before making my purchase... I did order the slim case from Spigen, and it just came in today, but every single time I do put a case on my phones they only last a week before I can't stand them any more... Sigh...

My advice is to feel the phone for a few days and then return it if it's too bad. I know it doesn't sound practical, but not everyone will have the same experience. I hope it feels good for you!
yes better to try out both in person, me personally i loved holding the edge i didnt want to put it back on display haha
Worst case scenario, if you can't return it or exchange it, you get a slim case to improve comfort and grip on the edges. Best part is you don't lose the benefits of the curved screen, whether it's software features or just the look and feel of the curved edges. I'm really happy with my case.

Yeah, it's a great device, IF you get a good one! The same problems that bothered the OnePlus One, are coming back to the OnePlus 2.
SOFTWARE problems, then some potential problems with the touch sensor that is starting to crop up. If you remember some of the problems with ghost touches, that appear to be associated with grounding problems with the screen. People have noticed if they are gripping the oneplus2 with one hand, wrapped around the metal band, and try to use the touch sensor thingy, it may not work, or produce an unintended result. If you wear gloves, or have the phone placed on a table, the fingerprint thingy sensor works just fine.
If you have a problem, good luck with opening a ticket and returning it.
I'm of the opinion that OnePlus, is nothing more than a paper company, that does beta testing for Oppo, who owns them.

Well, at some points I'll have to disagree.
With me, finger print censor works great. It depends on you how you've set up fingerprint. Ie covering your fingerprint in almost every possible way that you may use.
But you'd ask me, native camera app UI could be much better than this. There is HUGE space for improvement here.
Also, I don't know if battery life is that great as they claim. But I stay most of the time at home or at office so don't have problems.
My thoughts (I've had a Xiaomi Note and an MX4):
1. Much better build quality than both - be sure to Swap the sandstone back for a Bamboo or Apricot to finish the job. Seriously night and day between those and the OnePlus One.
2. Camera is better than both but slower to shoot. This needs sorting out via software. I'm surprised at this because Oppo (chief investor/owner) have always excelled in camera software. My find 5, find 7, and R5s have always been instant shooters.
3. Oxygen OS is much better than Hydrogen, MIUI, and Flyme. It's no coincidence that Chinese market focused OSs are dumbed down and quite childish in appearance - that's how most of them are (ColorOS is another example). I don't mind them, and they're certainly usable, but prefer the more mature and light skins... Preferably as close to stock as possible like Oxygen.
4. Battery is good. Similar to OPO and Xiaomi Note.
5. Performance is great. Smooth and fluid with no app refreshing issues. The SD810 may be underclocked but you will not notice it. And it doesn't get hot.
There's more but you need to try it yourself. As a OnePlus One owner, I upgraded and recommend others do too.

I don't have Kevlar yet but will probably order it next when I go for the Rosewood.
At the moment I just have Bamboo and Black Apricot. I prefer the Apricot's look as it matches the rest of the device. However, the Bamboo feels really great and doesn't show any fingerprints whatsoever and it looks good albeit in a different style.
The Kevlar will look awesome if you want to go ultra stealth.
To be honest, I think they all look good in their own way and want them to swap out depending on my mood. Before I saw and tried then I though they were a bit gimmicky and might feel cheap but it's the exact opposite.

Arrived today. Must say the Kevlar is real nice. Slightly textured so it grips but not like the sandstone; matte finish so doesn't show prints to badly; and of course it looks stealthy and themes well with the rest of the phone.
If I was going to have one cover for appearance alone, Kevlar would be it.
Small note: I do recommend changing from the sandstone cover because all other covers are slightly thicker, thus making the camera area slightly inset. This means you can go caseless and not have the camera scrape across a surface when you lay the phone down. With the thinner sandstone, the camera area sticks out just enough to be the first point of contact.

Thanks a lot for your review of Kevlar. Wanted to know user review rather than a YouTube videos.
Also, about the camera going slightly inset after putting on a styleswap cover, I observed that in videos and they were also telling it made a device little hefty. But on a positive side, since I don't like to put on any covers on my smartphone, I thought kevlar would be the best one to protect it from any accidental physical damage.
Again, appreciate your time!

I prefer caseless too. With recent phones having protruding cameras it's almost been a necessity to protect it.
Kevlar + no case = best look and feel.
Got invite today a few hours left I have opo and happy with it is it worth getting three opo2 seems no much difference besides finger print scanner and no NFC. I keep changing my mind to buy one or not heard the battery life is 4 hours screen on time due to 810 CPU which is worse than opo what do you think

6p glass not completely flat?

I just got mine a few days ago and have noticed that the built quality is still inferior to Samsung and iPhone. I'm strictly talking about the glass as it's not completely flat. You can see reflections distort and the distortions are very apparent around speakers and corners. I even doubt a tempered glass would stick in those areas. Are yours the same? Samsung and iPhone are completely undistorted. Bugs me with I'm gonna RMA it. Pretty disappointing but outside of that, I like the phone but this problem makes the phone look very cheap!
My glass and most everything else about this phone is fine. I placed a glass screen protector on mine. No problems. Don't really know exactly what you're talking about. Maybe yours is defective and rma might be wise. Hope this helps.
I've had four, and all had completely flat glass.

I was at CES and looking at all the 6P's at the Huawai booth, I did not find one phone with a completely flat glass. I must admit, I'm a product designer/developer so I pay attention to these kind of things, normal eye may or may not catch these problems. But I'm guessing the glass on your phone is somewhat not flat as well but you just don't know what to look for. Easiest way is to use an edge in the glass reflection that you know is completely straight, for instance, the edge where the wall and ceiling meet, then you slowly swivel, or tilt the phone so you see the edge reflection running up and down the glass. If that edge slightly distorts(not straight), then you have a glass that's not flat. And this is VERY apparent around corners and speakers. And if you take a Galaxy or iPhone, that edge will always stay straight. Maybe I'm picky, but it just makes the overall phone looks cheap.
BTW, I've returned the phone because it bugs me so much...
Mine is perfectly flat and a glass screen protector sits in flush
my glass screen protector refuses to stick in the bottom right corner! i bet this is why.. currently its out for warranty repair for an unrelated build quality issue
Yup mine is not flat either. Noticed it when I placed my phone on the table. The sun was shining on the display and at exactly the right angle you can see distorted reflections. Like someone pressed way to hard on the display. Well Don't think it can hurt because it's maybe about 0.001mm and not noticeable at all in daily usage.
Mine is flat.
If those displayed models in ces were not flat, I doubt any of them are. Again, you need to know what you're looking for or else you only think it's flat.

Ive replaced my nexus twice, all three had distortions on the glass but it did not affect the screen protector from sticking on all sides, some luck I guess.
Even I have the same problem on my 6P and I think that's the reason why my top left corner of tempered glass is not sticking
I think the majority of 6P's have many, many issues. Mine is pretty crap, but I've had it for over 14 days and so I can't get a refund to then buy a 6s plus... I'll just have to put up with this

Maybe I'm picky, but it just makes the overall phone looks cheap.
BTW, I've returned the phone because it bugs me so much...

Yes, you are extremely picky.
I tried your test and don't see any distortions. But I guess you WILL find something else that's not perfect anyway.
Flat here. RMA.

This exactly, I believe none if flat. Mine isn't flat either but nobody else noticed it on my device. It's absolutely fine in daily use though. What bothers me more is the gradient color effect on my screen from yellow to pink. I think it could be related to the fact of the screen not being flat. Personally I think it's unacceptable for a €650 phone in 2015... Just when I thought about rma, I saw my colleagues note 3, exactly the same, not flat and even worse then my 6p, that's when I decided to keep it.
Edit: I also had it on my oneplus 1 & 2 so again, if you know where to look for...

You're absolutely right, I'm a product designer/developer and QC is a big part of my job.

Don't worry! Samsung has mediocre quality as well. Many s6 users have this, but it doesn't affect anything though like installing screen protectors!
From my experience, I find only LG caring for fine details and build quality!
anyone have this issue with their 6P?

This is my second 6P, just wondering if this is normal or not

Your right there. Took me 4 s6 phones to.get one without horrendous tints on the screen. Worse than anything on the nexus 6p

Any new stories about the camera cracking?

As you know I'm thinking about the V20 or Pixel XL and I'm wondering has anyone still been having the cameras on these shattering or has this defect been corrected?
The lens cover sticks out from the back of the phone. If you're careful about setting it down, you shouldn't have any problem. A good case should mitigate the problem further.
It had to have been a bad batch because myself like plenty of others have dropped out tested the theories of the people who cracked there's and nothing has happened so far. Hoping I didn't just jinx myself.
Mine cracked in my pocket. No keys or or anything else in that pocket. Pretty sure it wont be covered under warranty, so I'm looking for a replacement but no luck on parts yet.

Was there any kind of significant temperature change (being outside in the cold for a period of time and then going inside a warm place or vice versa) right before or around when you noticed it had cracked? I'm just curious because if not the only thing other thing I can imagine causing them to spontaneously break, would be if the way they were installed somehow causes the them to be under constant pressure? That's crazy though this is a first time time I've heard about this so hopefully it won't be widespread, does it the camera itself break too or just the lens around them?

I was in and out of the house and it was 40°F outside, 70°F inside. I'm assuming I bumped up against something. Camera still works, just the lens is broken. Wide angle camera is useless though since the shatter originated there. Right now I have a piece of tape over the lens to keep it from cracking any more and damaging the cameras.

Would you buy another V20 after this?
People say the s7/s7e camera shatters easily too but I've never had that problem.

I use Defender cases a lot, but the one for the V20 looks like plain overkill. I wish Supcase made one for the V20. Not a lot of Defender style case options for V20 but it's only been out for one half months now.

I came from the Note 7. Only reason I bought the V20 was because I didn't like the S7E. I am not too pleased with this phone. For being a phone with such a great camera, I find photos taken in auto to be lackluster. I know you can get some great shots with manual mode, but I have a 1yo that doesn't sit still long enough to mess with the settings. The N7 was great for just point and shoot. I'll use my Cannon DSLR for more advanced shots. Also, to me, it feels like the software isn't as well optimized as on the N7. It gets sluggish at times and the battery doesn't seem to last long either. It may be my overall frustration with phone since August, going through the 2 recalls and 5 phones in that time, but I am disappointed to say the least.

Note 7 for me had some stutter to it but other than that the phone was PERFECT! Well maybe put an IR blaster on it. I was so ticked I had to get rid of it. Nothing else out there fits my preferences 100 percent right now. We are kind of in the lull period until next March when the S8 series comes out.

I have high hopes for the S8's. Hopefully my wife will let me upgrade when they come out. That's if I can find the glass lens to fix this phone

I expect the larger version of the S8 or S8 edge or whatever they call it will have similar size to the S7 edge. I don't think we will get a bigger screen until the Note 8 comes out. I'm not a huge fan of the curves and rather would have a fully functional large screen. I wonder if a lot on here plan on keeping the V20 until the Note 8 is out.
I would like the Note 8 to be like the v20 and have removable battery, and bring back the IR blaster too.
