Eonon GA2170 - Android Head-Units

Anyone else have this HU?
Uses the RK-PX5 octocore 1.6ghz processor.
Android 8.0 Oreo, 4G RAM, Octa-core & 32G ROM, Split Screen and PIP Multitasking
Had mine for about a month, and really like it

Thinking to get it. I currently have GA2162. Just wondering how quick wifi signals are on it? Considering it has no external wifi antenna like GA2162.

I was concerned about that as well. Seems to pick up WiFi just as good as my GA2160 did. All the Xfinity wifi going down the road it grabs. Much more responsive as well.

Can u confirm it's really on 8.0 ?

Thanks mate. I’m going to order it tomorrow.

I just got this model. Like it so far but just a few things I want to change.
Any luck with doing anything with the home screen? or modifying it in general?
I am looking to change the home screen apps to something besides the preinstalled ones. and change the ugly ass clock.
I a trying to remap the NAVI button to something other than google maps.
Thanks

very dim screen, brightness set to 100%

Hi, anyone who had this unit suffers same issue as mine, very low brightness, dim LCD screen, unpleasant to view in most time of the day, otherwise versatile in function, anyone know the issues or how to fix it, change firmware or hardware?
how this is compared to the similar faced pumpkin HU : AE0273B
Looks identical tome, and why one is 60 dollar more than the other? screen brightness ( different grade of light source, different wifi chip, etc....) Any one can afford to buy two of them and make a compassion review?

I asked the very question of pumpkin on amazon and this is what they replied
"We checked the list of Eonon, and we consulted with our engineer,he informs that the bluetooth and wifi module are different,we use higher chip for this model.
We guarantee that our products and customer service would not disappoint you."
i still went ahead and bought the pumpkin. the screen is fine i added a matt screen protector as for changing the firmware i have been unable to root it and the factory reset only wipes apps and a few settings. not a full return to factory settings (found that out the hard way)

I got mine yesterday. Super responsive. Have not noticed any issues so far. As far as the brightness, my truck is limo tinted, and my radio is at a slight angle. It really does not bug me. I like it overall. I have not tried to root yet, but that is my next step. I can confirm OREO 8 on the unit.

if you manage to get root, please let us know how

The unit is great. Far better than GA2162 but as expected wifi has poor coverage should have given that external antenna as optional.
Anyway can anyone tell me how to stop the HU to kill the app like my camera recording after it comes back from sleep. GA2162 never used to do it.

Hold onto the app icons for few seconds, it will ask to select an app.
No you cannot get rid off ugly ass clock but you can move the main page to end and modify the first page with widgets and icons.
Go to settings >navigation and there will be an option to select an app for navigation physical button.

thanks, f/u the dim screen issue

Great feedback info, should be very helpful for any others who want to buy one of these HU, if I knew these info ahead, I will buy the pumpkin, I did a review atAmazon site to share my experiences. I had a hard time to return it (GA2170, Eonon brand), I did note that pumpkin has the way better Wi-Fi antenna ( before I bought this Eonon while doing the research on both HU), I aslo paid a attention to the other Xtron brand, but I gave that up due to that model didn't have a large physical button, my theory is that, if you use it during driving ( in motion or in darkness), a physical button is way better than the touch feel button ( although flush surface Xtron panel looks cool and better), even I'm minimalist kind of thinking, I still think with large physical button is the way to go ( design) , Both the internal and external mic-phones the Eonon are not flattering at all.

Thanks! regarding the ambient light, mine is Honda fit, much lighter than yours ( bright ) But that's not my issue, I personally found, even during cloudy ( with flurries the weekend in NE) days, it's uncomfortable to view, by view, I mean you watch some photos/videos, not just their app screens ( where they did a greater contrast icon design and the fonts does look clear to me, in any condition except direct sunlight. ).
I tried Youtube videos, ( CNN news, etc), I tried DVD quality movies ( Kill the messenger and Fast and furious 6), in cloudy and around sunset days (weekends), very disappointing, .... I don't wish to have more bad words to bad-mouth any sellers, I'm just trying to tell what I felt and want to know what other users have and think.
I even asked myself, could these type android HU is designed for its multifuction, only, not really for imaging/video displaying, cause you're driving ( in motion), not sit in a couch to enjoy a movie night ( in a 7'; TFE lcd screen). the fundamental design is for information display ( like GPS, BT phones calls) not for entertainment. In another word, I should not expected such HU for that kind of purpose, but I what I though is that I want use it while I'm waiting for someone ( eg, airport pickup, after school , activities pickups) while in a stop condition. I won't watch video during driving ( in motion), plus all manufactures advertise their HU for such entertainment.

Totally agree......
I road around today and I did notice at times the screen being hard to see. I put n youtube, and videos were hard to see at noon. Sux, I love the unit. Needs more contrast. At night, it is perfect.

Hello. I have installed this unit today on my alfa147. Is all ok also the dab+ kit. I have only 2 problem. The dimension of the display borfer that dont put perfectly in my double din chassis and i cant use the gsm dongle because oreo see the usb but i dont have the 3g menù in the configuration.
Cpu and display ok. Very beautiful the split screen with navigator and radio.

After some test, i have found some problem...
1 - The display, with sun, is not bright
2 - After every reboot, i lost my wheel command configuration
3 - My USB 3g Dongle is not compatible with Oreo and i must do the root for install PPP Widget for use it
I have send a message to eonon via messenger and they send me the link for a firmware upgrade EONON-px5_8.0_kld10_ota_20180131.rar
Now i try this one but probably i install the Malaysk Custom ROM , but i'm not sure because this rom is too younger.
has anyone already installed this rom on this hu?

Multiple reviews for the Pumpkin unit mention that their Google login information was stolen, and one mentions Google Play debits against their account.
For those with this unit - do you have any issues with the top bezel obstructing the notifications bar at the top of the display?

the head unit has worst wifi ever and Bluetooth sometimes messes up too. Anyway, anyone knows how to prevent it from killing the background running apps after it comes back from sleep?

Haven't had any issues with mine other than constant power and switched power were reversed on the adapter harness. WiFi is as good as my GA 2160 was with the external antenna, and no issues with Bluetooth... Actually better than my old one!

Yes, I had the same issue and I wrote a similar review on Ebay and Amazon sites to warn the potential buyers to look deeper before buying, we may say that their HU dimension is not up to ISO standard, sub mm bigger.

very disappointing screen, no scale ( contrast) adjustment, there is brightness level adjustment function, and just 3 weeks, my GA2170 had more issues now, the illumination light flicking every 6 seconds every time I switch light on. quite annoying, and lcd screen will also flick at the same pace, dim, bright, dim, bright. very concerning about protuct's quality now, I'm contact them see what's the bottom of it. (noting if I disable the night mode brightness adjustment in the factory setting, the flicking will be much flaster at interval of every second

I haven't seen any other mention of it here on XDA.
Does anyone know if it is a rebrand of something else that I'm missing here?
It's fast. I've been able to use Google Hangouts on it, even with video. Zello works with no problems and even sounds good. I'm going to get a SIM for it and see how well the phone works.
Biggest drawbacks are lack of support for Google Voice and Voice Search. I've been able to workaround most of the other issues. This appears to be a common issue for this type of phone, and it's a big disappointment here. I'd love to find a way to get those messages. Has anyone solved this?
I got mine at http://www.geekbuying.com/item/IK8-...4-0-512MB-RAM-4G-ROM-5MP-GPS-WIFI-325392.html but you'll likely find a place that ships more quickly than Geekbuying.

I own a ZGPAX s5 and I see this watch on ebay as well.
For the processor they are the same :MTK6577 1GHz Dual Core
Both IK8 and s5 actually run the same system as well (android 4.0.4)
They look different just because of different default launchers.
I just root mine and use Launcher 8 instead.
The real difference should be the position of the camera.
Both camera are 2MP and 5MP interpolated.
s5 is better for selfies and Skype while IK8 is better for taking photo shots.
Both are 2G as well.
They even share the same battery!!! ZGPAX s5 got 500mAH and 700mAH and IK8 should be 700mAH
You can take a look of this
http://www.ikwear.com/wangzhanjianshe/1.html
It should be a rebrand product.
The best solution is to mix the two products' camera into one LOL
Then I can selfie and take normal shot!!!
Cheers!

Got a couple of quick questions if you don't mind. I find some interest in this smartwatch
1 How do you like this smartwatch now?
2 I noticed on a youtube video that this smartwatch seems to have a sort of hidden menu button and back button located at the bottom of display. Am I correct?
Any thing else you would like to comment on would be appreciated.
Thanks

1. It is stand-alone watch phone, android v4.04 system, high definition touch screen, high resolution camera, you can use it smoothly and freely like a smartphone.
2. There is menu button and back button on the side of the watch, not at the bottom of display. And you can touch the screen to get what you want...

I've been using the IK8 for a few days now, and I discovered that there is definitely a menu- and back-button located directly underneath the display. In fact, they often get in the way while trying to touch lower areas of the screen .
Is this $120 the same one on AliExpress?
it gives notifications when connected to a phone?
It says 700mah battery. .. many days use do you get from it?

Looks like the same device to me. Just be cautious since this seller has only received feedback once. I'm not sure if this deal is legit, especially since the price is incredibly low. The IK8 usually sells for about $135 - $145.
Since it's a standalone Android device, you don't need any additional phone running a companion app in order to receive notifications. Just insert your SIM card (regular SIM) and you're ready to go. If you'd like to pair the IK8 to your smartphone and receive notifications over Bluetooth, maybe it is possible to install the Osmart app which is originally developed for the Omate Truesmart. I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth giving it a try. XDA user 'KOAO' already had some success using this app with his ZGPAX S5, which is not that different from the IK8;
KOAO said:
I am successfully able to receive notifications from Emails, and texts. i haven't tried to reject a call yet. However, i used the Osmart Companion app from the omate truesmart. You download the companion app to you watch by loading the Ostore app on your watch(i might ....might link the APK file i extracted from the Truesmart OS)Then you go to the post at the bottom, join the group and then download the master app to your Andriod based smartphone. Then you pair them up and test. If successful, WIN if not then try again.

The original battery supplied with the IK8 is 500mAh in contrary to what is promised on most websites/shops, it's exactly the same type of battery as used in the ZGPAX S5, but I'm not sure if they are interchangeable since the plastic 'mounting clips' look a bit different. With WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS turned off and the screen set at the lowest brightness I get about 7 - 8 hours of battery life. But I haven't been using the device a lot yet, so I think battery life will probably increase.
I ordered my IK8 from Aurabuy and received it within 1,5 week (to the Netherlands with SingPost).
Edit: I came across several 'relabeled' versions of this watch lately. They are all exactly the same, but simply indicate different brand-names. For as far as I know, the IK8 Smartwatch is originally known as the TCW-006 and is being manufactured by Tecomax Electronics. This also explains the build-number visible in Android; TECO_V2.0_20140420.
haven't posted in xda for a while..let alone in the smartwatch section...but here we go. was in hong kong for a conference and decided to drop by the it shop. came across a host of smartwatches and just for fun picked up the ik8 for $90. haggled it down to $80 and figured i'd ditch it sooner or later. didn't play around with it until like 5 days later after i got back to melbourne. lo and behold, was actually quite surprised and impressed with it. my 2 cents worth:
display/interface
- not bad, quite responsive though i replaced the screen protector with a matte (anti-glare) one
- the small keyboard takes some getting used to but once you've used it you'll get around the limitations. i still make the occassional mistake but that's only when i'm using playstore
hardware
- camera is quite good though i have no plans of using it as i have my note 2
- speaker is surprisingly loud for such a small device
- one con i have is the lack of a 3.5mm jack. the built-in micro usb (for data transfer and charging) is also the plug for the earphones which comes with the watch. thus you can't really plug your own set of earphones...unless of course you use bluetooth
- quite light, watch strap is quite sturdy
- took in my 32gb microsd with no problem. pretty easy and straightforward in mounting the card
- same with the sim, but no plans on using the phone function
- don't think its "water proof" as some smart watches that claim to be (e.g. omate). but i'm not complaining.
internals
- i installed adw launcher which spiced up the homescreen (better than the default launcher). no hangs or whatever
- installed a bunch of widgets, just have to be careful as some are obviously built for larger screens. example, clokr (time widget) tends to not fit due to the length
- installed button savior to avoid using the hardware buttons. no need for root as i only need home, back and power off
- mx player works well, can actually watch a movie on it. no plans though as i have my note 2
- not planning on using this for music but poweramp works well on it. though there is sometimes a tendency for some icon labels to overlap given the small screen
gps
- i had to put a separate review on gps as i'm quite impressed with it
- installed navigon, apk had no problems loading. through wifi, the additional data and maps were installed
- also installed gps tester as well as other apps for cycling
verdict: gps signal takes around 1-2 minutes to get a good fix. the watch is able to lock on 4 satellites. accuracy is quite good but tends to be a little off when it's cloudy. the gps is not as spiffy as the one in my note but i'm not complaining. for a device this small, i was quite impressed how good the gps works
- strapped on the watch on my bike, used bikemate app. speed was quite accurate as well as keeping it locked on the satellites. didn't lose a signal as i cycled away
- had no issues with navigon. plotted home and the watch took me back to my house with no problems
haven't really tried out the full extent of the battery but without using wifi and gps, i was able to use it for 3 days before having the charge. with gps, battery went down to like 50% after riding for an hour or so. not bad in my opinion. overall, quite happy with it and i've now removed the speedo on my bike. no more wires and no more replacing batteries. this watch has now taken over the speed indicator duties for my cycling.
cheers
I got me one of these too, ordered from a Dutch guy who'd better pay back the import taxes caused by him drop-shipping it while pretending he had it in stock, or he'll be getting some negative publicity. Having to wait 3 weeks was bad enough.
I already had a ZGPAX S5 which I damaged, which is why I got this as a replacement. This is almost exactly the same hardware, as evidenced by the ability to restore a complete TWRP backup from the IK8 on my S5 with everything functional except the cell phone system. The IK8 is definitely the better of these two watch phones though: better build quality, no buzzing during calls, better cell signal reception, better clock & launcher system, no dead zone on the touchscreen. Definitely not waterproof with the gaping hole of the microUSB port, but it looks not as vulnerable to a few raindrops as the S5, whose screen doesn't even seem to be glued tight.
For the rest I concur with Robson, very good loudspeaker, the GPS is indeed impressively good and seems better than on the S5, at the condition that one does the usual dance of enabling EPO etc.
Can't login to Google PlayStore
The problem is that the teeny tiny keyboard is just too hard to navigate and when I try to switch the keyboard from alpha to numeric I get an "Android Framework has stopped" error message and the Google setup/sign-in app crashes and reloads.. Arrrggghh..
I tried installing two different Bluetooth keyboards to get around this problem but when you link the keyboards and go into the settings it will say "Use as input device" great, but when you go into "Languages and Input" to set the default to the Bluetooth keyboard the Bluetooth keyboard is NOT shown as an option just the default AOSP keyboard.. Can one of you guys help?? You know what a PIA it is to return anything to China so I just may be stuck with this which sucks because I can't use any of my Google apps (e.g. Gmail) which is why I bought this thing in the first place!
Any and all replies are appreciated!

I have tried to get Bluetooth keyboards and mice to work with two different phones that use this same chipset and Android version. My conclusion is that it is impossible. The devices pair, but the phone does not react to them. It looks like a fundamental bug in this Android release. If anyone has more success, I would certainly want to hear about it.
Your best option would be to install a half-size keyboard like Slidy Press, that has much bigger keys. Of course, installing the official version would require logging into the Play store first Your only option is to download the APK and install it from the file manager. I have made a customized version of Slidy Press available for download. I would post the link here, but for some reason the forum forbids this, so you will have to Google for this exact phrase between quotes: "I recommend installing Slidy Press" and you'll find the download link.

Thanks!!! I installed Slidy but I'm now finding that if I touch any key that appears in the lower left corner I get a "Unfortunately Google Framework Services has stopped" error and the app crashes. Any ideas???
Thanks again!!!

So, regardless of the keyboard you're using, it always crashes when you touch the lower left key? That is extremely weird. Do you also get strange things when you touch that location without keyboard? Maybe your screen is defective and you'll have to send it back anyhow…
i concur with lex, i've never had this problem despite installing multiple apps on the watch. in your posts you mentioned that the error message first came up when you tried switching from alpha to numeric. and again the message comes up when you touched a key in the lower left. coincidentally, both areas you touched are on the lower left portion of the screen. there might be something wrong with your device/screen. unless of course another app is somehow causing this issue? though somewhat related, i once installed usb toggle in my note 2. though rooted, it seems that my note didn't like the app and frequently crashed. i had to fix it up it to the point of going to the bootloader to wipe out the cache. in any case, uninstalled it and now my note functions well. the same could be for your watch. again, unless of course there's something wrong with your screen/device...in which case you should have the watch replaced.
at first in setting up my wifi connection, playstore id/password, etc..it was quite a burden. though the keyboard is small, you'll eventually get the hang of it. i still get the occassional mistake of pressing the wrong letter. but i rarely do this anymore since the watch has been set up to what i need it to do (which is mostly for gps).
the one thing i'm looking around for is trying to either deactivate or change the watch face. i noticed that this can be done for the sony smartwatch...i'm still trying to find a way for the ik8. no luck at the moment though...

Guys,
Thanks.. I've done a Factory Reset and the problem persists. I think the digitizer is faulty in that one spot so I'm sending mine back for another.. Will let you know if the next one acts up! Thanks for all of the replies!

IK8 Review
I wrote a review about the IK8 (I think I should be allowed to post links by now). Because I already had a ZGPAX S5 and the IK8 is very similar, the review mostly focuses on the differences between the two. The general conclusion however is that the IK8 is noticeably better in most aspects.
The review also contains a list of tweaks and hacks, and custom versions of the clock screensaver and launcher. Enjoy!

hey lex
thanks for sending that link to your review. I rooted the phone to change the watch face lock screen. I think somewhere along the line I sort of did something wrong because now the lock screen watch won't come up....which is a good thing! what I did was installed ADW Launcher and used a live wallpaper for a nice watch face. I kept the home screen free of any widgets. Swiping to the right then brings up a whole bunch of short cuts and widgets which I use.
cheers

Just Bought. Erisin ES3015V 8" VW Android 5.1 Car DVD GPS Player

Hello All,
as the subject says I have just recieved my "Erisin ES3015V 8" VW Android 5.1 Car DVD GPS Player" just for information, if any one wants to know anything about it just ask, id be glad to share.
http://www.erisinwholesale.com/spec...v-8-vw-android-51-car-dvd-gps-player-466.html
First impressions, looks good, feels ok, every thing ive tested so far worked great, bluetooth, wifi connected to hotspot on phone, radio (great reception) navigation.
Its super fast and responsive, must go into sleep mode because its instant on when you push the button.
If you want any logs or screen shots, dumps etc you might have to tell me how to get them, as its my first android head unit so im still playing with all the settings etc.
Also trying to find a goods apps or things you can do with it as I love to tinker.
Kind Regards Guy
Hallo also bought the Erisin 3015GE and is instantly on after pressing the button. Hope it will not run the battery flat.
So far confident with the device.
Need to find out how the 3g connectivity works, there is no options in settings.
Just went out to see my batteries flat, need to figure this out.
I had the ACC dip switch on the back on when it should have been off, now the stanby and complete shut down work a treat.
Regards
Hi, I've also just bought one of these units but I'm thinking the display is questionable as the colours seem very washed out. Any chance you could take a photo of your unit on the home screen to compare?

My unit arrived with all 4 DIP switched on the off position, and so far I haven't had a flat battery and the unit powers off when the key is removed.
Can you guys give us a quick review of the unit, I am trying to see if I should buy this or another.
Also, is this bright enough to see in the daytime? Color accuracy?
I had some issues with the colours on the unit I received, and was offered to be sent a replacement main board to replace myself, or to return the unit for a replacement or refund. I opted for the refund and ended up getting a similar model from Joying.
The support were relatively helpful, although you had to wait a day for a reply due to the time differences between here and China. (I imagine that is the case for all the similarly priced manufacturers though)
From the limited use I gave the unit it seemed ok, the weather app on the main screen wouldn't update, I believe there is a firmware update available for it but Erisin don't seem to make the firmware publicly available. As I was returning it anyway I didn't look particularly far into this, so there is every possibility Erisin have a patch for it.

Hallo checksum
The brihtness of display is ok, The brightness settings are not possible to be dimmed enough for night use.
There is an icon to dimm the display completely which i use.
Need to figure out if i can link the display off function to some button.
Ale colours seems to be fine. Not tried any dvds, need to drive when I am in the car.
But can somebody share experience with FM reception ?
My reception is more poor (in central europe)
Connected to the oem antenna, and only strong signal stations are received well. Lower signals are terrible and i have falouts of stations and crossing of 2 signals. Or the station runs good and in few 100m comes to serious disturbtion of signal.
Oem radio was having absolutely perfect reception.
Anyone have other experience with fm ?
Does anyone knows how to connect the 3G dongle. Wanted to stream music from internet instead

got mine since yesterday. very fast boot times under 20 seconds. quick response. iGo preinstalled on 8gb sd card. i dont found a volume changer for subwoofer pre-out. the forgot this definitly.
display is too bright in night-mode. you can only lower it a little bit. the good thing is that you can turn it completely off. maybe the thread starter found out how to map this to a hardware button?
good fm quality.
whats the code for changing the boot logo? is it 126?
Hey ho,
Code is 3368.

Probably stupid question, but how do i do this?
Thx
You need to enter factory settings in settings menu. Then it asks you for the code
Sent from my HUAWEI G7-L01 using XDA-Developers mobile app
I figured out how to power off the screen with a hardware button.
Enter factory settings with code 3368. Choose the buttons menu on top.
Choose the first option (not touch buttons)
Press the hardware key which u want to use.
I choosed the power button. Now you can choose for short press the screen off symbol and long press as power off.
Save it and you're done
I really like this headunit now ?

Is it possible to set the player to automatic start recording from the camera?
Does someone has experience with the DAB+ module for this unit? Is the radio reception better as for the FM radio?

How about the external Mic jack - if an external mic is connected, is the internal mic disabled or is it still working? Does this unit also require the BT hardware modification for the external mic to work properly?

I'm sure this varies, but I bought this unit a week or so ago, with MCU 1.63.1 and Kernel 3.0.101+. FM reception isn't great, but not horrible either. Have only driven in the city though. DAB+ reception is fine, although I don't really like the app and the antenna that came with the package is useless to me (looks like an antenna made for your desk, not a car). I'm in the process of finding a window antenna instead. Once I get that sorted and hopefully find a better dab app I'll be happy.

Android unit for Ford S-MAX

Hi guys
I'm hoping to get some help from you with deciding head unit for my Ford S-Max. I'm doing a research about it but still a bit confused.
I have few units I'm looking at,
1. Ford specific Joying - JY-FL124N2 ( Android 5.1.1 Lollipop 2GB RAM Intel SoFIA 3GR , 4 Cores )
2. Universal Joying - JY-UL135N2 ( Android 5.1.1 Lollipop 2GB RAM Intel SoFIA 3GR , 4 Cores )
3. Ford specyfic Xtrons - PF75QSFAP-S ( Android 5.1 Lollipop 64 Bit Operating System Quad Core )
4. Ford specyfic Xtrons - PCD76QSFA-S ( Android 6.0 Marshmallow quad core Cortex A7 )
5. Ford specyfic Xtrons - PF70FSFS-S ( 800MHZ Cortex A7 Processor and latest WinCE6.0 )
I'm really into buying ford specific Joying with SoFIA, i was reading about it and plenty of people suggest to buy this one and all seems good but there is one big minus of it, there is no DVD slot (which isn't a problem) the problem is with 2 NOT working buttons 'eject cd' and 'dvd' which is very annoying and taking up the space... I've asked support if there is a chance to reuse (re-programme) those buttons for something else but got no response about that.
Anyway I like the Universal Joying unit the most, one volume knob, few buttons, looks much better then ford specific ones but there is a problem with wiring, its needed to get the harness etc from other source and whats worst connect all that to be working, steering wheels controls are the most stressful for me, and need to get some dash kit for installation. So I will end up with a frame in a frame (unit itself), so it will be very visible that this is a after market unit.
.
If you have any other suggestions please dont hesitate to say.
This will be used mostly for youtube, some movies for my kids, playing music from my phone (Xperia Z3), making calls, using internet from my phone or hotspots, navigation (probably google maps as i like them the most). I also want to get the rear camera with it
Any ideas welccome, thanks!
R
What year is your S-max? For the newer ones (post 2011or so) it's hard to change the OEM unit because the airco controls are integrated.

Hey Johan, thanks for asking...its 2006 Ford S-Max so its easy enough with those specific ones.
I was thinking about it and decided to use one of the specific ones, less hassle with installation and looks better, less after market. But Im not sure which one to pick, I dont have a big budget for this and would prefer to spend around € 200 on it but i dont want to be disappointed with how the unit works, i need it to work mostly with rear camera, playing music from my phone and simultaneously using navigation or playing videos in the back screens (when i finally buy them, plan for future), making calls, some youtube for kids during the trip...i just have enough of drained batteries in phones by 'wheels on the bus' songs lol
In my opinion, as a general rule you should pick up an unit with 2Gb of Ram and physical buttons.
A quad core is also recommended and to be honest I don't think that you need more then quad. There are some new units with octa but I haven't read more info and don't know if they worth the trouble.
Also I would pick a Ford specific unit because it fits perfectly in the dash compared to a standard 2DIN with various adapters that are not always up to standard most of the time.
Sofia looks like a good option, I am also interested in one... I began to read about it... I need to replace my 2 year old 3066 (KYD) unit.
I am mostly seeking it's instant on feature since I got tired of waiting for 30-40 seconds for my unit to boot each time I start my car.
Also I am not sure that you should opt for a CD unit since most don't use CD's anymore.... but that's up to you.
From my experience these aftermarket silver units are a different shade (brighter) of silver compared to the silver dash Ford elements.

Hey
Thanks for spending time to reply.
Yes i also decided to go with a Ford specific, i know the shade might be different but it will still look better then universal unit with frames...The only thing that is annoying is those 2 not working buttons...
It would be good enough if we can programme them but probably those are just blank covers without a button.

Glad I could help, I have a Mondeo (oval shape headunit unit) myself and exchanged quite a lot of headunits, I had 2 x 2DIN units and 2 x Ford specific ones. With the 2 DIN I had a hard tine finding adapters that fit perfectly but never got one with the right shade of silver or the perfect shape to accommodate the dash and the 2DIN unit... So I gave up on 2DIN units based on the adapters headache and overall look.
I mentioned that thing about the silver shade because you don't have this problem if you buy it black
Some people are bothered if it's not the same shade.
Yes, those 2 dummy buttons annoys me as well but there's nothing we can do... Overall the buttons layout is not for my liking. I would have preferred the standard android buttons on one side (back, home...) and multimedia buttons on the other side (play, stop...). But they tried really hard to cut the costs this time using old parts and completely cutting out the CD/DVD unit. For me the CD/DVD is useless because with all the streaming services I haven't touched an CD in the last 3 years. The DVD player in the car is also useless for me... when I drive I need waze/gmaps/igo/here and PlayerPro/XiiaLive Pro.
The Sofia unit needs a little modding from what I have read... you definitely need to stop the killing app service, install Viper4Android because the 3 band default EQ is really poor in general... and probably many more... still reading on the problems the unit has and the workarounds.
One thing I can say for sure.. if it weren't for the XDA forum and all these great people I would never consider buying an Chinese unit because out of the box it's pretty poor software wise.

Hi all.
I've recently bought the Joying EU-JY-FL121N2 model, so it fits for a bit newer Modeo/S-max/Focus. In my model there is a dvd slot but it's blanked (not as in the pictures of the hu on the Joying website). The most important thing for you may be the fact that the 'dvd' and 'eject' buttons do work, they just don't do nothing on default. With the
Joying 2GB - Steering wheel key customization - V4 (NO KILL)
mod I am able to use them. I can't be 100% sure that there is the same situation with the other models but I suppose that in fact it is.

Thank you VERY much for the feedback. The pictures are great. They differ a lot from what they posted ... Surprise! the DVD slot is still there... only that is blocked... hmm.....
I pictured that they at least get rid of the slot and the side lights (that I presume that they still lit the fake cd slot)... kinda sloppy decision.... eh... whatever....
The unit looks good... I am definately getting one.
1. Since I have an Mondeo and I will be getting the exact same unit I gotta ask if everything went fine as for some units there are problems with steering wheel buttons (vol up and down, next, prev) especially the M button in the middle (you can't configure it to do anything)? Do they work ok?
2. Did you encounter problems at start (the unit start command, power on, is sent through CAN and actually interpreted and enable by the chinese CAN decoder) ?
3. Does the instant power on feature works ok?
4. The unit hardware buttons backlight colour match the car dashboard?
5. Is the screen bright enough?
6. At night does it dimm enough or do you need to use some software to dimm it even more? (like I feed the need on my unit, if I turn down the brightness even if it goes prett down I still feel the need to make my screen even darker for those white background apps like Google Play Music)
Thank you !

I was able to get the steering wheel buttons work. I only use those on the left side, but all of them work: vol up/down, next/prev and the 'M' button. In my case the wheel buttons work with connecting 'KEY2' wire - sorry but I don't remember details right know - it is described in the manual from Joying (which is included with the HU). At start after cutting some wire I connected it from the wrong side with the KEY2 one, but then I've noticed a youtube clip
youtube.com/watch?v=QaJqWy9Tk24
and did the same way, but I had to stay with the canbus decoder connected (the only difference from the method shown above).

I don't quite understand what you've wrote in brackets - I haven't noticed any weird behaviour with starting the unit.

Yes, it does actually. I don't know much about the battery drain - I've got the unit for a week only. But I've seen somewhere in the forum statistics of the processor activity during the night and it was almost 100% deep sleep so I'm hoping it's ok.
4. The unit hardware buttons backlight colour match the car dashboard?

Essentially, yes. In more details: I've set up the red colour (the option of changing colour is visible only with car's lights on - not that much obvious to me) and in the daylight it looks a bit pale - you can see it on the pictures I gave. But when it's dark they look very nice to me - the same or almost the same colour as on the dashboard.
5. Is the screen bright enough?

We haven't had many sunny days during the last week, so I may only say - I can see what's on the screen, but I don't think I'm going to use it to watch movies - radio, music, bluetooth, maps - for now it's all I need.
6. At night does it dimm enough or do you need to use some software to dimm it even more? (like I feed the need on my unit, if I turn down the brightness even if it goes prett down I still feel the need to make my screen even darker for those white background apps like Google Play Music)

I can't tell anything about that to be honest, this is to check yet. I'm not very sure but I think that the 28 march update brought some more options for backlight of the screen (but it may have been there before also).
I ordered it just now, hope it goes well !
Thank you for all the feedback !

That is nice to know... I am hoping that my unit will be here in the next 2-3 days... and then it's mod time... lots of work
Have you hard moded yours to add additional cooling to the unit (heatsinks or fans) or did you let it stock? Have you noticed cpu throttling ? Have you checked the CPU temp? (not sure how users checked it out, probably with an app)
Don't know if I will mod my unit, I am not ready to give up the warranty from day 1.

AFAIK people here have got some throttling during cpu stress (some benchmarks I think) - I use the unit for listening to the radio, music, phone calls and navigation, for now at least. I don't think those actions will stress the hu at all or maybe in some small amount - I hope so at least...
Have you checked the CPU temp? (not sure how users checked it out, probably with an app)

I haven't done this with the unit, but in my phone I've used cpuz. I think there are plenty of such kind of apps in Play store which even don't need root.
Don't know if I will mod my unit, I am not ready to give up the warranty from day 1.

Right now I'm not ready to do any hardware mod and surely I don't feel I need one.

What is your CAN bus settings? I am really struggling with my CAN bus. My S-Max headlights are blinking when parked. I would love to know what settings you are using.

What kind of headlights do you have? In my car there are h1/h7 bulbs and I can't see any kind of blinking.
I managed to solve my issue by cutting the wire on the alarm sensor pin in the plug between my car and HU.

New Pumpkin 7.1 Nougat 2GB Ram, 32GB Rom and Fast-Boot Model AS0272B

I just picked up new Pumpkin stereo and I'm pretty excited as it is my first true Android powered car stereo. I have been looking at them for a long time and the biggest hesitation that I had was the complaints that I had heard of slow start-up times. I have been looking around at stereo options for my 2003 Silverado recently, and noticed that all of the higher end name brands were just so expensive. And they are only now just starting to get the Android Auto integration. That led me to look and see if there were any new improvements to the true Android stereos. Then I came across this Pumpkin unit that had every option that I was looking for; HD capacitive touch screen, Steering wheel integration, Bluetooth 4.0, phone mirroring or Google Navigation (this has both), and a rear backup camera input.
I really haven't had a lot of time to play around with the head unit, but so far I'm very impressed. One of the things that I was concerned about was having something that wouldn't be easy to navigate for my wife. I installed last night and when she got in my truck this morning, she was very impressed. I really like the UI that it comes with stock. Some of the icons are locked, but I'm ok with that. There are a ton of great pre-loaded apps such as Torque, and the Navigation app that came standard is Google Maps. Once I get to play around with it more I may make a video of the operation to help others make a decision. The unit is just as advertised for the quick boot up times. When I first booted up the unit it took only about 15 seconds and then every time after that it comes on almost instantly playing my music.
I'm hoping to finish up the install this weekend and play around with the placement of the wi-fi and GPS antenna's. I also want to wire up the backup camera and get that functioning. I will keep this updated as I progress through installing the rest of the components.
Unboxing it:

Hi, your pumpkin looks just like the one I bought and installed last week but mine came with android 6.
Could you please post a pic of your about device screen under settings. Just wondering if the hardware is the same?
Cheers

Let me know if this is what you were looking for:
I finished up the physical install of the radio last night. My factory truck harness to the original stereo didn't have a dimmer light or switched 12v+ so I added those pins to the truck side of my harness so that I didn't have to have any extra wires to unplug if/when I ever need to pull mine out.
Home screen:
Radio:
It's been a few days now and I am very happy with the radio overall. There are two quirks that may just be user error, but sometimes the radio app doesn't want to stay open and will close, but the music still plays? If I open it up and push another button it will stay on though? The other is I have a fairly significant amount of static when making a bluetooth phone call? Maybe I am getting some sort of interference with the radio antenna or something? Otherwise it has been smooth sailing and I'm mad I didn't do this sooner! I'm hoping to get my backup camera hooked up this weekend and then the install is complete.
Looks good, you've got a px3 processor which is different to my px5 and explains why you've got a newer version of android to mine even though the radios look identical on the outside.
Not sure about the static, they do have their quirks but there's not much that people on here have xperienced and fixed.
Pumpkins own forum also has good support from pumpkin staff.
I'm not too familiar with the hardware, but hopefully my PX3 is a good processor. That's a great tip on the Pumpkin forum. Maybe I will search over there to see if I can find out why I am getting the static.
Looking at one of these units. I notice it doesn't have a normal wiring harness and has RCA type ends on the wires. Am I correct?

I am having problems with the Radio not changing frequency and not showing RDS on all my stations. Old headunit did. Also my fast bootup doesn't work all the time. Pumpkin gave me a new version to download and install, but I haven't done that just yet.

There are the RCA connections for back up cameras, and a bunch of other inputs, but there is also the regular unterminated ends that you have to solder to your existing radio or radio harness adapter. They called it an ISO plug in my instructions and I ended up cutting that off to splice on the adapter for my truck.

I'm not very savvy with the technical side of the radio for installing different versions, but I haven't had any issues with mine. The only issue I have with RDS is that when I have a weaker radio signal it will spell out gibberish, but that is understandable given the weak signal. Other than than it works perfectly and tells me the artist and song that is playing, or the radio station. As for the fast boot not working, did you hook your wires up properly to switched 12v+, constant 12v+ and ground? Make sure those connections are rock solid. I soldered all of my connections and heat shrink to protect them.
I was googling these updated units as I have an older Pyle PLDNANDVR695 and it's just driving me nuts with how slow it is and the issues I have. I came across Pumpkins new unit that is an octa-core with 8.0 (https://www.autopumpkin.com/pumpkin...screen-octa-core-with-gps-navi-bluetooth.html)
Has anyone tried this one yet? The specs look great... I realize there will always be issues with these types of head units and I really want to upgrade from my current unit but I also don't want to have a bunch of new issues to deal with.

I actually have the 7.1 unit I just bought last week. I am going to return it and get this one. Just hoping it gets on Amazon soon as my return window closes March 2nd. So far the headunit has been good. I did have to update the MCU which fixed the buggy radio. Now it works well. I also thought I purchased a fast boot unit. I did not. So that is another reason I am returning it. Takes around 25 seconds to boot. This new one takes 1 second supposedly which is awesome!
I have an aftermarket system hooked up to it as well and it sounds fine. The presets aren't bad either. I tested the headunit's clipping volume on my O-scope and I was able to turn it up to max volume without the unit clipping. Impressive if you ask me. The rule most go by is 75% max volume then do all your tuning from there.
I got rid of the crappy factory look and downloaded Nova Launcher that I use on my phone. I will be doing the same with the new unit. Though one thing is when you add a new launcher you can't add a radio widget like the factory one has. I just bypass this by hitting the "band" key on the left.

Cool, thanks for the response! A lot of the issues I have with the Pyle aren't necessarily show stoppers, but they are absolutely maddening to me. For instance, it always delay initiates my amp by like 3 seconds... I have all my fronts through two crossovers into to a JL HD600 and I have the rears hooked into the HU directly; music starts playing and then the amp kicks in with the front speakers. Could be my issue but I've had a setup like this before on other headunits and it was never an issue. Also the auto-dimming is broken and manually changing it has this really weird issue where you change it, it switches back almost immediately and you have about a 1 second window to change it again... it's almost like it has a Min & Max value of brightness and it just jumps back and forth. Insanelyyyyyyyyyy annoying at night time as you're trying to turn it down and it will just go super bright and blind the piss out of me.
Anyways, I am pretty close to wanting to order this unit anyways and just try it out. The specs look fantastic and hopefully it's just a generally better experience than what I'm having now. The Pyle was my first android based unit and overall it's been cool, I just want a bit more out of it and expect a better experience overall.

That sucks about the delayed amp. I have my remote wire from my two amps spliced into the red (acc) on the head unit which then goes into the pac harness for my truck. Soon as I turn my ignition on it powers up my amps. Though I am not sure if yours boots up quick or not, but maybe mine taking close to 30 seconds to boot my amps have time to turn on. For now I have changed the settings to where the headunit powers down after 10 mins when ignition is turned off. This allows for a quick start up of less than 5 seconds. Obviously this is for quick stops like the store or something. Overnight it is of course a cold boot.
The dimming on my is not auto either. I didn''t hook those wires up as it was a bit confusing which ones were the dimmers. Though the volume knob is actually the dimmer as well. You press it in and it goes from Bright, Dark, Off. I can adjust it more by pulling the system settings up, but the dark setting is perfectly fine at night.
I really think you'll be pleased with this unit. I am impressed by my current one and I have used nothing but top of the line Kenwood units for the past decade. I wanted more freedom in my headunit so I took a plunge at the low cost of these. Of course there will always be pros and cons. I also love using my phone as the hotspot and playing Spotify/etc from my headunit. Of course I did this with my old units but that was through BT. No need for BT now. I also don't care to have BT calling either.

I like your idea a lot about splicing the remote turn-on into the ignition on. I think my amp boots pretty quick but I will still plan to do what you've already done. That way it can also make sure that the remote turn on isn't losing connectivity and causing this 3s timeout. As I mentioned before, it's really weird because it does it for every song or transition of apps... insanely annoying.
The other question I had is how did you set yours to do remote shutoff after 10 minutes? One thing I haven't been able to do is this... not sure if my Porsche supports it or if I need to find an alternative power source that has this function built into it that keeps power for X# of minutes after the ignition is shut off.
I'm most likely going to order this updated unit this week... the only downside is I'm impatient when it comes to buying/shipping. I checked Amazon, nothing. with the updated unit There is an EBay store but it's coming from Hong Kong as well so it still has ~2-3 week delivery. I will likely order directly from Pumpkin because I want to order some of the add-on products directly from them (OBD2 and the 3/4G wifi dongle, which I'm super excited for since I have a spare, free sim).

I am not sure about the Joying units, but I would think they are pretty similar to the Pumpkin when it comes to wiring an amp(s). Usually you have a blue/white for your remote off the headunit. Though I do not recall seeing one on these. Also the subout is usually two rcas and not just one. So I had to buy a Y adapter to plug my sub into it.
You go into settings, then car settings and there is an option to turn on the option. It gives you 10 mins, 30 mins or 1 hour shutoff. It actually puts it into sleep mode. This allows the screen to turn off and not display while you are out of your vehicle for potential thieves. Hopefully I won't need to use this on the new unit.
Yes I have been trying to get ahold of Pumpkin on when they will be releasing the new unit on Amazon. I get 5% cashback and Amazon is just easier to deal with. As I mentioned before I hope they get added before March 2nd which is the last day for my return window on my current head unit. Do you not have a hotspot on your phone? Verizon is what I have and I have the unlimited plan so using Hotspot is free. I thought about grabbing the 3g/4g dongle but I didn't trust it. Testing the hotspot proved to me that I don't need the dongle. I also use the OBD2 BT device to track my vehicles sensors/gauges. Works well. Even though the headunit comes with Torque Pro already installed. I ended up having problems with that one. So I uninstalled it, purchased from App store and it ended up fixing all my problems. $5 is not bad for the app either.
Another thing I would like to add is the GPS. I am not sure if it is because I have the antenna inside the dash or what, but it tends to skip and not follow me very precisely like our phones do. I think I need to relocate the GPS antenna outside the dash and have it sit at the bottom of the windshield out of site. This is something I will test when I get my new unit.

EKIY D7 Android Head-unit

A few weeks ago, I decided to order an Android head-unit: I didn't wanna spend to much money, so ordered a low spec unit. After my holiday I could finally install it, and overall I'm satisfied.
Your browser is not able to display this video.
It runs on an ARM A7 1.3Ghz Quad-Core, scrolling through the screen is quick enough. Although starting apps takes a little bit longer, than used to on my smartphone. However Android Auto seems to work perfectly wired, I haven't been able to get it work wireless.
Also my original USB port of the car, doesn't seem to work with my current Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite. Which uses USB C: perhaps the USB port, is simply not supporting these new USB. My experience with the original car radio was, that this USB didn't even provide enough power to run my dashcam.
Anyway, the AlliExpress seller wasn't honest: they sold me an Android 10 headunit, but it's fake. In reality it runs on Android 8, which is okay to me. Expect than I want a part of the money back, because I wouldn't have ordered it for € 150 if I knew it's actually running Android 8.
Yes I know, it's possible that Android 10 wouldn't do these low spec headunits any good, but it's still false advertising. It seems to support sleep mode just fine, it went on instantly after I turned the car on and off. But for now I have disabled deep sleep, because I wanna avoid draining my battery.
The reverse camera is slightly titled, because of the license plate bracket. But this way, I don't need any drilling or what so ever.
I did some more testing: the screen is bright enough, even during sunny days. When connecting the phone to USB, than Android Auto will start automatically. Which is to my opinion the main feature of this Android Head-unit.
Reversing camera work, but when engine is running: there is flickering, not sure what's the cause. Perhaps the 12LED's draw to much power?
Google Maps and Spotify can work standalone together, but it's slow. So better use Android Auto, because it's safer and more stable. Also sound seems to be better, when using Android Auto. Not sure if it's because, most of the processing finds place on my phone.
The ability to change car logo is nice, and steering wheel control is very bugged. It will only allow me to assign one button? If I assign multiple buttons, than all of them have number 2. Suggesting to me, it might not see that my steering wheel control has three button's.
In order to avoid the car radio everytime deleting your contacts from the phone: go in phone bluetooth setting, and disable allow sharing of contacts. Overall when mainly using it for Android Auto, then it's a good unit. As screen isn't a TN screen.
But I feel, all Android apps including Google Maps aren't made to use directly on a head-unit. So no matter how fast your headunit is, still the integration is bad. The GPS works fine, no issue there. But there isn't a compass inside the head-unit, so it relying mainly on GPS for is position.
Not sure if HereWeGo might work better, because it has the ability to download maps. Also you don't need to run Spotify on the head-unit, it can run just like the OEM car radio play by Bluetooth.
There is a button called Bluetooth, that's where you find the handsfree and everything related to your phone. I would still however refrain from using it, especially while driving. Because it's very distracting.
That's why I already start Google maps on my phone, connect the USB and with less than 30 seconds it will automatically connect to Android Auto. Also music from Spotify would start playing automatically.
If you ask me: these head-units would be way better, if Android was striped down from all useless features.
Dispute
The dispute still is going on, I have used to different apps: both report API Level 27 which means it's running Android 8.1 instead of Android 10. I knew I was buying a low budget device, which increased in price because of chipset crisis and weak euro currency.
But Android 8 is officially not supported by Google anymore: you can still use it, no issues in that. Only I wouldn't have bought it, if I knew the Android version was fake. And obviously because of my working colleague, recommending this seller. If he didn't... I wouldn't have bought from EKIY.
Now it's a back and forth, and the seller saying the information the Fake Device Test and CPU Z give are fake instead. It's a pain in the ass, and most bugs found in this cheap device are even found in the more expensive ones.
I read, that the bug from deleting your contacts on the phone already existing for many years. People even reported it on Joying units, which makes me think. No matter a low or mid range chipset, all going have similar software bugs. It's up to you, how much you wanna spend.
Thank you for a good and detailed review.
I bought an android head unit from EKIY last month, but it is the highest spec. EKIY S7 8G+128G
I don't have any issues you mentioned in the post (lucky me).
Did you buy a general android device or it is tailored specifically for your car?
Regarding the reverse camera try different picture resolution settings. I see they are selling camera rectifiers to provide stable 12V DC if the problem persists.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32954917237.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.60062e241jGhBO&algo_pvid=689c7955-2a19-4aa1-b802-97f8a8142b59&algo_exp_id=689c7955-2a19-4aa1-b802-97f8a8142b59-0&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2212000018709179697%22%7D&pdp_npi=2%40dis%21AED%2133.06%2116.53%21%21%2110.91%21%21%402101e9cf16602900534683194e028f%2112000018709179697%21sea&curPageLogUid=9lfhYfopE8tz
I bought device specifically for my car, but that just means EKIY puts the universal Android head-unit in a frame matching the car. And then providing the harness...
So if I buy any other universal 9 inch Android headunit, which same type of 9 inch screen. Then it should fit as well. Device works fine for Android Auto and built-in apps, so no complaints there.
But I was cheated by the seller: it is not running Android 10, but Android 8.1 which isn't supported by Google anymore. So in a way I overpaid, because it has false specifications specifications. That's why I'm having a dispute running against EKIY, but it still hasn't been resolved.
I had to provide detailed information, so I even provided a video. Now I'm waiting for a solution, the best would be full refund without having to send back. Because I would never have bought it, when it advertise the real Android version.
Also sending back isn't a real option, so I would already be happy with a partial refund and perhaps selling the device locally. But for now I'm keeping it in the car, to use it a bit longer.
I have tried this solution for the flickering, but don't know the result yet. As I haven't started engine. When I know it worked, then I will update this post. But the 12 led camera they give for free, is really bad quality image and I believe there is no need for LEDs on a reverse camera when you have a good lens.
So I have ordered an more expensive reverse camera, from GreenYi which seems good to me. I think wider view would also befit highly when reversing, so I choose option D AHD 720P. There isn't any need for 1080p, because the display don't support this resolution anyway.

It seems to support sleep mode just fine, it went on instantly after I turned the car on and off. But for now I have disabled deep sleep, because I wanna avoid draining my battery.

Hello, can you tell me where to turn off sleep mode
Yes, you are right, the seller is a liar, the android is not 10, but 8. and he does not send me the factory firmware as a backup

But I was cheated by the seller: it is not running Android 10, but Android 8.1 which isn't supported by Google anymore. So in a way I overpaid, because it has false specifications specifications. That's why I'm having a dispute running against EKIY, but it still hasn't been resolved.

I have another car and considering buying one more device, but probably I will skip EKIY for now.

Go to settings, factory settings and then you find an option called deel sleep or named slightly different. There you can put it off. But I have decided to keep it on, and now I'm observing if battery voltage doesn't drop below 12. In the last 48 hours that hasn't been the case, so I'm guessing it doesn't drain the battery.
Cold boot however is very slow: it takes 47 seconds and going from ACC to start engine will shortly switch off the device. Resulting in a second cold boot of another 47 seconds. So totally it would take about 2 mins, but when you connect the USB cable to your phone. It would automatically start Android auto. When in settings, you selected Car Link to start when usb is connected.
I filmed the boottime, you can see it's really slow. And yes don't expect any support from the seller, especially not after calling him out for cheating. Now I'm just in a big dispute and I finding it quite frustrating to be honest.
I'm regretting this purchase a little, mainly because the false Android version. Because that's something I find important as well. Basically you pay to much, when it claims to be running Android 10. No one would pay € 150 for a head-unit, running an Android version that isn't supported by Google anymore.

Thank you.
I also really regret that I contacted this brand.
Did you win the dispute or not? I also want to open a dispute with a partial refund.

I'm considering Mekede this is an UIS7862 unit, and it has some support on XDA. Looks way better to me, than EKIY. But Mekede is also displaying fake Android 11, but they show the API Level 29 which is Android 10.
So not so much lying as EKIY: you can still find out the truth, if you know about API levels of Android.

The dispute is still running: AlliExpress firstly declined my evidence, so now I have made it very detailed. Seller just the whole time kept showing Android settings, claiming the Fake Device Test show false information.
I suggest half refund, but even that the seller refused. So I'm having AlliExpress step in and waiting for their solution. It's kinda a pain in the ass, but I'm hoping for a satisfied solution.

Yes, the one I bought from EKIY is UIS7862 and it shows API29 in CPU-Z. It runs fast and smooth, but I paid around 300 usd
firmware for this <miracle> from where you can download ?

Atleast I have an IPS screen, I mean I'm happy with the quality of the screen. I'm guessing that's a specification, which wasn't lied about.
I will keep the thread updated, about the dispute. That doesn't go so fast sadly.
I just went from my hometown to Düsseldorf: the Android Auto works really well, but using the volume button is a pain in the ass. The best is to set volume before driving, because it's hidden behind my steering wheel.
This wouldn't be an issue for British drivers, because they sit on the right. But in the Netherlands we sit on the left seat, so it's a bit more difficult to adjust volume while driving. I think this will be the same on the more expensive units.
Seller came back with: friend how you proof, your app that shows fake Android version isn't fake. Something like that she or he said.... I said the app gets information from the system, which you try to hide.
He also said, that they sell Android 10 headunits. I say yes, but the one you sold me is a fake and I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it.
Also found the option, to disable the AHD for the reverse camera. Perhaps this is the issue with the reverse camera, because it wasn't the ground wire I disconnected this morning. The reverse camera I have is definitely not AHD.....
One negative part about Android Auto, or actually the USB connection of this device: while Android Auto is running, it gets hardly any charge. So better make sure you battery isn't to empty to begin with.
The seller all of a sudden send me an update, for the EKIY D7. But when I go into the FYT Build Prop, then it's labeled as an ATOTO...
And the last line in the build prop says: ro.build.version.release=11
I'm guessing that's how they fake the Android version? In this update, which I haven't installed yet on the device. They are faking the Android version to be Android 11 making it even worse.
And in metadata, I can actually see the Android is 8.1.0
post-build=SPRD/sp7731e_1h10_native/sp7731e_1h10:8.1.0/OPM2.171019.012/19115:user/release-keys

Or at least I'm guessing, this number refers to the real Android version.
I seriously don't know for which device this update was meant? But it didn't work on my update, and I was afraid that this stupid update almost brick the device. That doesn't matter if I get a full refund from AlliExpress....
But I still don't know what's the solution from AlliExpress going be.
So finally AliExpress made a decision about my dispute: from the € 150 I spend for this headunit, I'm going be getting € 30 back. Which I think is reasonable....
It's still a fully functional Android headunit, although running on Android 8.1 and basically incapable of running Google Maps straight from the head-unit. Other navigation apps might work perhaps better, but I haven't tested it anymore.
Now I'm looking into Mekede, which I guess I could open a dispute against this seller as well after receiving the FYT Based UIS7862 headunit.... because they also lie about Android version. Only they mention the correct API Level, so I already know it runs fake Android 11.
I'm guessing I will just be selling the headunit, either completely. Or I'm going be taking it out of the frame, and then order a new one. Because I would still need an Android head-unit, if I wanna keep the reverse camera.
Well I used the device in the end for three weeks, and have decided to replace it with an Mekede M500s. Which I should have gotten in the first place, but I simply made a wrong decision.
My end verdict would be: totally useable for Android Auto or Apple Carplay and listen to your FM-Radio or music etc. Not so much useable for running heavier Android apps.
I haven't found many light Android Apps? I tried Mapy.cz a Czech Google Maps, but that made the headunit crash and reboot. So in the end I haven't bother anymore, finding working navigation apps. Although I noticed for some kind of reason, they preinstall iGo navigation. Is that supposed to be some kind of light weight navigation app?
Another thing this headunit is useful for: hooking up your reverse camera, believe it or not it supports AHD. Because I switched the 12led reverse camera for an 720p AHD reverse camera and it worked.
Actually the main reason I'm still sticking with Android headunits, is because it seems the best choice if you don't have the option to get something OEM.
Ofcourse a JVC headunit could have done, but those have limited functionality: do they even support AHD reverse camera's? And what I have seen, the screens in these devices are of really bad quality. Similar to something you get for €$ 60 bucks on AliExpress.
I'm just hoping these head-units last a long time, because I read someone who had an iDoing headunit: it broke after a year. The only thing people never mention, how much it actually had been used.
@DexterMorganNL Thank you very much for detailing your experience with these scammers! I was very close to ordering an android T7 head unit from them so I'm very grateful for the warning. It's a shame they didn't punish these scammers harder but at least you go a bit of justice out of it by preventing others from giving them money.
Hello everyone.
I received the head unit three days ago for my Ford Fiesta (2011). It was easy to set-up. I haven't had time to install the rear camara yet.
There's one thing I find annoying however : everythime I start the device, it starts with Youtube? I'd like to start on the homepage. Do you know what to do ?
Hallo Dexter and everyone here. I am new in this forum and hope to find some information as well as sharing some.
Couple of weeks I have bought this exact unit for my beautiful 2004 Toyota Camry. I just to have same shape of unit in my Volvo and it was working ok I think, but that one was from different seller. I chose this model thinking for my usage will be good enough. Even though I am driving a lot and long distance I am still not living in my car. I just need some music, phone, Navi and the reversing camera is just a little bonus for safety. I have find some issues with this unit. The version of the Android is clamed to be 11.xxx but Google says it’s 8.xxx. The Apple car is little slow to connect but I can live with it. The only problem with this is that when I have my phone connected via Bluetooth the Apple car will not connect.
Still with switching it manually it would work. THE major problem is my original automatic antenna. I was controlled by the original radio. Radio on -antenna goes up, radio off- antenna goes down. With this EKIY unit the antenna still goes up and down with the unit on and off, but the unit is turned on with the engine start or ACC and turned off within 1-2 minutes after the engine off. And with this goes the antenna up and down. This is the problem especially when I want to drive through car wash line ( for example). I just can’t find a way to turn the radio off while driving or the engine running. The seller is telling me that it can’t be done and I am having trouble to believe it. And the other problem is the screen brittnes. I can’t dim it witch is enjoying by driving at night. I can turn it off but the unit goes into sleep mode. I still want to use it, but the sharp light of the screen is tiresome to eyes. I know this post is almost a year old but if anyone reads this, please help me. I don’t know much about Android but I hope there is some solution to the problems. Thank you all in advance. Best regards

Hi, I believe it can be changed in factory settings. The passcode is 3368. Or using the papier clip or pin you can reset the unit, then set up your device once more. I hope this helps
