Shouldn't this change as you can now unlock your bootloader directly from Nokia? nokia.com/en_int/phones/bootloader

This would definitely change somewhat if you actually could unlock the bootloader for this phone.
You can't unlock the Nokia 7 Plus at this moment though, Nokia only allows unlocking for a limited selection of their phones.

there won't be a partnership. they never 'honor' it.
Kirin ruins the devlpmnt
better not to expect anything..
im not saying that there wont be any development, but there will be much less ,when compared to snapdragon chips,
and yeah, we know the xda-honor partnership, i hope they might release sources.. lets see what happens.. but no hopes..
still no roms.....

It's way too early for development. This is relatively a new phone + there are always problems with Kirin.

the US version is new. the other has been out since october. dont expect any custom roms on this. the devs stay away from it and they never produce proper source. thats why I stick to google phones from here on out.
slow development for roms..
For a stable daily driver it will take another 4 to 5 month's, until than I am getting used to emui.

Is xda-huawei patnership real?.. When it will take effect
after some months, I can say that the community development strength is........ zero. no roms, no mods, only a recovery. never again for me.
So far 3 stars, average. Hmm. In my opinion it is one. Maybe some people voted with a hope of future possible development, but it's like a Nobel prize for Obama. Too early and not deserved. Let's hope that it will not end as bad.

@Rox_Honor, how about Huawei release the kernel source code for 6X? Or how about you guys release all the source codes for all of your phones. Developers will be happy, users will be happy, you will be happy. Everybody happy.
lets hope with time we will get healthy development
Until sources will keep to be missing, the development is limited

MoDaco

Hey guys.
I was asking on Google+ what we could do to improve the Honor 8 comunity.
It was said for me to look over on MoDaco.
I had never heard of it so went and had a look.
I found a forum set up for our wonderful phone the Honor 8.
It's all set up, ROMs, Recoverys & TWRP.
I found it all.
It also has a tool to help build a custom ROM. Honor are obviously putting money into the development community for the Honor 8.
The only thing missing is for people to get involved to make it all work.
I think that we have a great phone here with a great future.
It's up to us to make the comunity for this phone work.
Have a look.

He basically abandoned the phone a month after he got it. Look at the dates on the posts
and all his files are on money making click sites and outdated
Don't get me wrong, I like Paul but he abandons devices way too quickly

That's his loss.
From what I can see the Honor 8 is going to be a very suppored phone.
They seam to have latched onto the fact that people will buy phones after thier initial release based on the support for thier development opportunities.
They look like they have put money into this MoDaco forum and tools for making ROMs etc.
I'm very happy with my honor 8 and I have come nowhere near wanting to root (yet!)

Yeah we can only wait and see
You know Honor broke their promise on the H5X and it's not getting EMUI 5 / N anytime soon only security patches
I have been with Honor sense the 5X was released and Got the H8 on a Black Friday deal. It's a nice phone on EMUI 5 / N
But their software development is very slow compared to some of the big name players

That site has been around for years. It focuses mainly on European devices and users. He was here for a while but really didn't last long as all he was doing was win zipping others work.

Come over to the "V30" forum and we'll show you how to manually update your "V30" phone. Takes 5 minutes.
This phone is just a V30+ with more RAM. Same stock KDZ as all the US998 V30/V30+. For the "US998" series,
* V30 is US998,
* V30+ officially is US998U (but we still call it US998)
* V30S is US998R.
But all the "US998" run the SAME KDZ. Over in the V30 forum, we have the latest KDZ for US998 V30S, which you can do simple "upgrade" with via LGUP, just like an OTA update.
______
V30S is just another "JOAN" V30. There's no good reason why XDA created a separate forum for the JOAN V30S. All the other V30S owners are over in the V30 forum, where they should be. That's why this is empty dead town.
Whereas the V35 is a completely different phone -- and should have been given its own forum, but wasn't. Yet the V30S is just another US998 V30 and yet strangely was given its own forum. V30S has the SAME KDZ as the other US998 "V30" variants, same bootloader unlock and root method as the other V30, same JOAN TWRP, same custom ROMs.

Updated huawei p20
Looking forward to purchase it and then will submit review
Nothing to say yet, it's not released globally yet!
I ordered mine (64gb) yesterday for 500 USD (Switzerland). The store says, the wont have it before the 24. May. Can't wait!
Although I don't care too much: There are conflicting information, whether there is/will be a 4gb version or not.
The store I ordered from only has a 4GB model, the 4 other swiss stores, where you can preorder it, only have the 6gb model.
On the Chinese Honor website there are only 6gb versions...
The community development strength will be the same as for other Honor models: completely hyped by XDA because they whored themselves out to Huawei, but in reality it is non-existent.

I just got my Honor 10. The AI camera is awesome.
Considering the fact that Honor as of late has been very supportive of development, I hope to see lots of development once this phone launches globally.
The Honor View 10 had a very paced Honor Open Source Program, partnered with XDA and produced some great custom ROMs for the device. I really hope Honor 10's development to be better considering the Open source program has already been announced.
Development will definately be good because it is treble enabled device so lts of roms will come to this device
Development will probably be similar to other recent honor devices (including those with treble support): virtually non-existent. There might be a custom rom or two, but just an initial release, and that will be it.
great phone honor 10
I come from china, i must say it is nothing really good than this, i am very satisfied with my honor 10, ok,not say too much ,i got to play king of glory now, master segment frame is waiting me to get.
If you're looking for a development-friendly phone, Honor is not the solution for you. We do have a program where we give out bootloader unlock codes to a select number of people every once in a while, but there is no official support for unlocking your bootloader. This results is a very small development community.

Just hoping for the TWRP to come up soon. And for LineageOS-like ROMs to show, too. Eager to try them out and unleash all the phone's potential.
Looking good, though
The phone is keeping up very good actually this is my first budget phone after a long time of using the galaxy series, note series and nexus 6p it is a tad slower at opening closing apps and the gpu is also weaker but it is surprisingly good at keeping them open in the background. The battery life is by far the best so far i ever had, around 8 hours of screen time of actively using the phone. I really hope the development for this phone starts up looking forward to testing roms and helping out in the future.
No custom roms or kernels for now but the Kernel Source is already here and there's already some guides about different tasks, so the developpement community promises to be active, in addition to Android One and the GSI roms!
TWRP official is coming. phh-treble will be updated for rounded corners soon. we'll be selling mi a2 lite with boot loader unlocked (which you can do yourself ofc) and a 2yr warranty that won't be void when you flash roms. we're working on sponsoring opengapps twrp and phh-treble and providing dev support / bug bounties.
let me know if you want anything else...like lineageos official, etc.
hope to see development for the phone in the near future
Official TWRP is on the way, hope to see lineageos taking the same way as twrp.
It's a very nice phone, relatively compact, big battery, volte, easy to unlock, A/B partition...
An official Lineage would be pretty nice to have.
Ordered the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite 4gb/64gb last week. Anxious to see it delivered. My old Nexus 4 is still going strong, almost 5 years later, but it is having glitches and severe battery issues when I run GPS and maps. The other day, it reset itself and wiped all my user photos. Most were already backed-up, but still. It runs Android 7.1.2, otherwise. So, time to move on with a new phone.

Agreed but still a great phone, now pie is (un) officially here so it's all good.. what do you really want? It is a banger of a budget.. how many devices have you owned that couldn't even be rooted comfortably? There are quite a few. I suspect things will pick up in the coming months as people keep hearing about this phone..

I have never owned a phone which can't be rooted starting with the likes of htc desire upwards then switched to chinese brands starting with redmi note 2 all have supported custom roms/roots.
This is the only one that has had very poor support.
I don't agree regarding budget cheapest 4gb/64gb version i saw for was about £145 for that price Redmi note 6 Pro is better value.
I don't expect much from this 6 months past and not even stable recovery/root and you would think some one would of done even a basic miui port (even original firmware has lots of issues still with slow updates compared to other android one phones)
