GUIDE - Downgrade for HTC U11 (from Oreo to Nougat with S-ON) - Solution for various - HTC U11 Guides, News, & Discussion

The purpose of this guide is to restore the phone in emergency cases and not only but also to perform a downgrade without the need to be in S_OFF (the utility of Sunshine, except in special cases such as the change of MID and CID which is indispensable, it comes much less!).
CAUTION
Do not do it if you do not have a clear vision of what you are doing: for inexperienced users it is a way to get a "paperweight", I do not accept any responsibility: you do it at your own risk!
This example refers to the European version of the Oreo firmware already in use: 2.33.401.10 NO BRAND(it can also be used with other versions)
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• HTC U11 smartphone NO BRAND version with Android Oreo vers, 2.xx.xxx.xx Dual Sim NO BRAND;
• Bootloader unlocked;
• TWRP Recovery installed;
• Status: S-ON (S-OFF as you know is not permanent).
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
• European version of the RUU Nougat 1.27.401.11;
• Minimal ADB / Fastboot;
• TWRP Recovery (latest version);
• TOOL Htc_Version_Tool.zip thanks @sabpprook for the great tool
PREPARATION FOR THE DOWNGRADE via PC WINDOWS 10 and earlier
• Download the RUU on your PC and rename it to 2PZCIMG (leave the .zip extension untouched) and copy it to
the external SD card of your mobile phone;
• Install on the PC Minimal ADB preferably renaming the destination in C: \ ADB for convenience;
• Download the TWRP and copy it into the c: \ ADB folder renaming it to twrp.img for convenience;
• Download HTC_Version_Tool and unzip it to a folder on your PC as you wish.
INSTALLATION FOR THE DOWNGRADE IN ANDROID NOUGAT
• Restart the phone in Download Mode (press the LOW VOLUME + POWER BUTTON simultaneously) and connect
it to the PC using the supplied original USB cable;
• Run the Minimal ADB and Fastboot program on your PC (a DOS window will open with the c: \ adb prompt) and
leave it open;
• If you have not yet updated the TWRP Recovery run this command otherwise go to the next step:
o fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
• Now you have to enter TWRP Recovery mode;
• Once entered, always with the phone left connected to the PC, type the command adb devices to check if our
cellphone has been recognized;
• Now run the HTC_Version_Tool program from the PC in the folder you previously unzipped and you will be asked to change the version number of your firmware:
HTC Version Tool, code by sabpprook
-- misc: /dev/block/sde1
-- offset: 2208
-- version: 2.33.401.10
new version: (type here the version you want to install as an upgrade: I recommend the latest release of Nougat)
confirm with the ENTER key (if you have done something wrong just repeat the procedure).
• You have now finished and you just have to restart it in download mode like this:
run, from your PC, the Minimal ADB and Fastboot program and, at the prompt, type adb devices to make it recognize and then adb reboot download and all that remains is to start the RUU flash previously copied to the External SD card.
For now we do not have S-OFF, this can be useful for flashing the RUU to remove problems and repair the phone when there is not a current RUU running.
Good downgrade!

it works! thank you!

Great tool!!! works flawlessly..thank you

Hello,
to know if it is branded or not it is enough to see if at the start there is the logo of your telephone operator.
If so, you can return to Nougat only with the RUU version you had before moving to Oreo.
The method works with the broken phone and I can not assure you otherwise.

If i have Indian version, can i flash European Nougat RUU, or it must be the same as previous?? Ok i found must be the same CID.

Exactly you have to change CID and you can do it only with S-OFF (Cid and Mid can not be changed with S-ON).
The procedure described in the first post is exclusively for the NO BRAND phone and I can not guarantee that it will work even with those branded with an operator.

I have no brand version. Everything went well ? Thank you, for your guide ?

Hello,
I can not guarantee the operation but you can try to do a test like this:
- execute the instructions of the guide and do nothing if you do not see the version of your firmware: otherwise you can go ahead.
Remember that you do it at your own risk and, in case something does not work, you have to put everything back like this:
- restart the phone in TWRP Recovery;
- re-run the adb devices command and then start the tool: at this point, return the correct version of the firmware you had before.

Yes, my friend have already test on his U Ultra, but please make sure you always have a backup plan before you do that

Yes, it works. I just downgraded from 8.0 to 7.1.1

Hello everybody,
I see with pleasure that the system works: for those who do not know it is possible to install, in addition to the Rom Sense with Nougat or with Oreo, also the Rom Resurection Remix with Android 8.1. maintaining the firmware NOUGAT !!!
The only thing that needs to be done at the end of the installation is to install the Oreo version of the radio and dsp: in this way it will work the part concerning the reception of the phone .... I'm still trying ...

FLASH RECOVERY
The recovery is something like the boot menu you may know from windows. Its mainly used to install programs and apps.

2) put twrp.img into your root directory from Minimal ADB and Fastboot
4) put phone into fastboot mode
5) run Minimal ADB and Fastboot and check with

fastboot devices
6) type in:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
! You can rename twrp image to twrp.img or something shorter if you want.
7) after the first boot - do a reboot into recovery. Otherwise the partitions won't be mounted correctly & flashing will run into trouble. It takes several seconds (or a few minutes) to reboot into recovery - but then you're good to go.
ROOT
Some apps need more permissions than normal. You can compare root with administrator rights on windows.
1) download UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.67.zip
2) copy UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.67.zip to your internal memory
3) enter TWRP
4) click Install
5) navigate through folder structure
6) tap UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.67.zip
7) "Swipe to confirm flash"
8) reboot
RESTORE DRM KEYS
Unlocking the bootloader disables a partition on your phone where software keys are saved. Without this keys xReality, BIONZ, audio processing arent available. This program will restore this features.
! Take a look if xReality is already working before installing DRM keys.
1) download DRM RESTORE (drmrestore.zip) from download section
2) copy drmrestore.zip to your external sd card
3) enter TWRP
4) click Install
5) navigate through folder structure
6) tap drmrestore.zip
7) "Swipe to confirm flash"
8) reboot
! Unfortunately, there is no way to save the original TA partition at the moment.

It has been before this guide. Basically what I did was unlocking the bootloader, booting recovery, flashing kernel, flashing root, wipe, restore DRM fake, done.
Firmware wasn't necessary for me and I've made bad experiences with alternate firmwares / radios and so on in the past.
Hi. Do I have to backup my TA partition ?
there no way to backup your TA partition hopefully for now.

Actually there is no need for it, imho. The fake DRM keys are doing a really good job. X-reality back, after picture processing back. It's also currently not possible to backup them afaik.

For now, you have to unlock your bootloader to gain root access. There is no other method at the moment. So in conclusion: locked bootloader = no root.

The new Kernel from monx includes TWRP, so you dont need to flash Recovery...normally. I know that my guide works, but only for E6653. I included a link for E6683, but I also wrote that I cant try it because I havent a Z5 E6683. Anyway, TWRP for E6653 should work for E6683 devices. The main difference is the Kernel.
Guys, what about E6633 ? Is it really bad ?

no need to panic. Did you install TWRP? I recomend you not to install anything, till you have our phone operational again (properly rooted with TWRP as custom recovery - you are gonna need it, in order to install everything else - and Super SU installed)

First of all: none rooting process, deletes- removes your OS.
You haven't said what model you have? For example mine is ALE-L21 Dual....If you have L04 I cannot help you and the next guide is useless....
Go to this thread and download minimal ADB from from chapter 1 - and install if necessary. I am not sure if the Hisuite is needed, but since it says "drivers" install it just in case - if you don't have it.
Then go to chapter 7 and download TWRP.
Copy TWRP to the folder where you installed ADB and rename it, as recovery.img
Reboot phone and connect to pc. Open CMD in the adb folder and type: adb devices (in order to check if the pc sees your phone. If it does, you will get a number. if not, try to connect)
then type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
after that, wait till it reboots. Go to the 8th chapter for root. Download them and move them into the internal storege. REboot phone into recovery (Vol up + Vol Down +power and on vibration release the power button) and flash the files.

Did you have your phone plugged in and turned on?
Are you sure that you unlocked the bootloader properly? Took the code from Huawei and passed it into your phone through adb(fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxx)?

Yup it showed "... unlocked"
If i install the firmware from this site there is a chance of put everything back like it was ??
The thing is, i don't know the last 4 digits of my phone example: "Huawei P8 Lite ALE-L21 V100R001C432B190 (Germany / Europe - Dual SIM) "

Since you don't know the last 4 digits, it's like you don't know what build you have. If you try to downgrade your phone (cause you might choose a former build), might not work. If you try to update to the latest version you should be ok, only if you had B550.
Try to use this file
You just have to download it and extract it. You will get a "data" folder, an intall.bat file and 2 zip files.
the 2 zips, include the SU. double click on intall and follow instructions. If you succed, your phone will boot (it might take 20 minutes or more). Then transfer the 2 zip files and flash them (1 first and 2 second).
make folder "dload" on the sd card, put update.app there, then hold vol+ vol- and power in the same time. It should install the update from the sd card

OEM Variant (Non-Amazon) - Unlock Bootloader, Flash TWRP, Root - Right steps?

I've spent a few hours searching these forums to learn as much as I can about rooting the OEM variant of the BLU R1 HD smart phone and have come across a handful of guides:
Blu R1 HD Unlock bootloader, install TWRP, and root (Non prime) by lil chickenz
For NONE prime R1HD by mrmazak
[TWRP] How to root ("newbie friendly"!) : by bibikalka
Amazon Blu R1 HD TWRP Recovery and Root Tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMobKWfZbJg)
I found those guides very helpful but there were spots where the guides glossed over a few things that a new member, like myself, found vague and mysterious. Therefore, for my own personal use, I opted to compile a more thorough list of directions that I can follow when I root my device.
With all that said, as more experienced members, would any of you double check the steps and provide clarification when needed?
Thanks in advance!
(See my next post for my list of directions.)
Disclaimer: This list of instructions is my attempt to comprehend information from a variety of sources on how to root the R1 HD OEM Variant. I'm nearly positive that I'm doing something wrong or another. If I am, and you know the right way, please explain it to me! Thank you!
[SIZE="+2"]Required Software, Drivers, & Files[/SIZE]
MediaTek SP Drivers (https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=68715) | Install these drivers onto your Windows PC so that you can utilize the SP Flash Tool.
SP Flash Tool (https://androidmtk.com/smart-phone-flash-tool) | Install this application via Windows so that I can backup the ROM, including the partitions, of the unmodified smart phone.
ADB (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979) | Install this application and drivers using Windows in order to unlock the bootloader and flash the TWRP so that I might root the device.
SuperSu (https://download.chainfire.eu/1113/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip) | This file needs to be uploaded / downloaded to the smart phone's internal storage aka /sdcard (internal storage). Eventually it will be installed to root the phone.
TWRP Scatter R1 Prime (https://www.mediafire.com/folder/usifl1vdnma1t/BLU_R1_HD) | This file is needed to flash the TWRP onto the smart phone.
[SIZE="+2"]Preliminary[/SIZE]
Ensure that the required software, drivers, and files are installed and placed appropriately.
Power on your smart phone, navigate to Settings -> About then scroll down to and tap Build Number multiple times until you are granted Developer Access.
Enter Developer Settings then enable USB Debugging as well as OEM Unlock.
Power off your smartphone (The battery must be removed to backup the ROM later. Should I remove it now?) then connect it to your computer with the mini-USB to USB cable.
[SIZE="+2"]Enter Bootloader[/SIZE]
On Windows, navigate to the ADB installation directory (Usually C:\adb) then double click on Runme.bat.
When in the shell and prompted type the following case sensitive code to put your smartphone into its bootloader:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
[SIZE="+2"]Unlock Bootloader & Factory Reset[/SIZE]
Wait until your phone is in the bootloader (The smartphone will display text along the lines of "fastboot...") then, on Windows, type the following case sensitive code to unlock the bootloader and factory reset your smartphone:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
[SIZE="+2"]Backup ROM[/SIZE]
Now that the bootloader is unlocked, on Windows, open your web browser then naviate to the following guide:
ROM Backup using SP Flash Tool 'Readback' feature by codelover
Follow the directions listed to Backup your ROM replacing 'Honor3C' with 'R1 HD,' and 'MT6582_Android_scatter.txt' with 'MT6735_Android_scatter.txt (Is this accurate?).'
Follow the directions to Process the dumped ROM files to create the SPFT Flashable files.
[SIZE="+2"]Flash TWRP Custom Recovery[/SIZE]
On Windows, extract the TWRP Scatter Prime zipped file into the ADB installation folder (Usually C:\adb).
Flash the custom TWRP by typing the following case sensitive code:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
[SIZE="+2"]Root[/SIZE]
Now that the TWRP is flashed onto your smart phone you may enter into its Recovery mode by pressing the 'Power' and 'Volume Increase' buttons for more than a few seconds. You may have to disconnect the smart phone from the PC first.
Navigate to the Recovery by using the volume button to highlight an option and the power button to select it.
Mount the system partition as read only then backup the partitions (select everything) to the specified storage location (including a SD card).
4. Install the SuperSu from the zipped file that you uploaded to your smart phone's internal storage in the Software, Drivers & Files section (After I wrote this I realized that the file may have been deleted when the phone was factory reset. Reconnect the phone back to the PC and you're able to access the internal and external storage from the PC. Drag the file into internal storage now.)
[SIZE="+2"]Optional[/SIZE]
In order to use apps like ES File Explorer, apps that aren't yet updated to handle system-less root, enter the following case sensitive code (Where am I entering this code? On the smart phone? On the PC using the ADB?):
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
mount -o remount,rw /
touch /sbin/su /system/bin/su /system/xbin/su
mount -o remount,ro /system
mount -o remount,ro /
Thanks again for taking the time to review this process and make any clarifications!
Wait! The MOST important thing is checking what version of the ROM you are currently running. If you have updated your phone with an official ROM to version 8.0 or greater (I think that's the version), then you will NOT be able to run SPFT and replace the bootloader as Blu disabled SPFT in the updated ROM. So the most important first step is to find out what ROM you have installed and whether SPFT will even work. If not, you will not be able to replace the bootloader or root.
I am not sure what the equivalent version of the non-Amazon ROM is where they disabled SPFT. Maybe V17?

Having your build number as V21, I am affraid you are stuck, without possiblity to unlock bootloader, so no flashing custom recovery with fastboot mode. Or modified root enabled boot.img
Also with build #V21, no possible method to connect with spft to flash custom recovery. Or modified root enabled boot.img.
With these restrictions, all the past information you have gathered will do you no good. Sorry. BLU has locked you down

Thanks for your hasty response, MrMazak. The information that I gathered isn't too complete a loss - I was able to learn more about and have a greater understanding of the root process.
Is there a part of the XDA forums where I might ask around, or dig through, to find smart phones in the $100 USD range that are still root-able?

So I'm confused, these BLU phones or which phones or all phones cannot be rooted any more? I have the BLU R1 PLUS and it doesn't even have a Developer option for unlocking the firmware ( BLU_R0051UU_V13_GENERIC 14-03-2017 10:40). Of course I cant run an oem unlock either.
How does anyone reload an image onto them if they can't be rooted? Thanks!

your device is different than the R1-HD
the plus (afaik) is not able to be unlocked, means no twrp, and probably no root.
I had this same device in hand for 3 weeks, and could not get anywhere with root.
maybe someone else has had more luck.
this is another thread that i respnded to for the device too.

Im still in Lineage 13.1 on my LG G4 H815....but i see in many threads since nougat version the devs are still long battling to get a functional the Bluetooth on any LG G4 with nougat&Pie versions.....So the real questions and important to everyone: Actually 17/12/2018 its working the bluetooth in LG4 with any Nougat&Pie version? Its fixed or Not?Are stable or nightly the lineage os you are offering here in this thead?If you say the lineage os are nightly builds and bluetooth doesnt work in Nougat&Pie versions...well i will stay in lineage 13.1 MM and i dont like nightly builds...sure i know its outdated&insecure but its stable and offering working and no broken bluetooth.I can pair my two bluetooth gamesir gamepad with no trouble.Please confirm those questions and reply it.Thank you and waiting for the reply.

just try it on the official website. you will see then why:
only the international model will be accepted but it doesn't hurt to try it anyways as sometimes devices are frankensteins and so even when it looks like a h815tr it is possible that this is not true (motherboard changed).

Hi, I am really confused by this part of your guide:
###Make sure you have latest LG LG4 official updates installed
Bootloader and modem must be V20A
Just want to make sure you don't mean V29A?
I currently have V20g-EUR--XX, Anti-Rollback value is 0.
Do I need to go to first to V29A as per
[GUIDE] Upgrade H815 Locked-BootLoader to Official Android 7.0 v29A
or to the (really outdated) V20A as per
[STOCK] H815 20A Images + Flashables + KDZ system + boot + modem + bootloader
or anything else?

Hi, I forgot to write Bootloader must be >= 20A. So you can go ahead and share your experience with me.
I'll update tuto.
Thx
Thank you for the prompt reply and for your careful guide!
What I did (I had already an officially unlocked LG G4 H815 International).
First of course back up my current ROM with TWRP.
Boot to recovery (TWRP), wipe everything.
Update to V29A by installing LG-H815_Official_v29A.zip, reboot
Boot, do the minimal setup, then enable developer mode and USB debugging
Copy (not move!) twrp-3.2.3-0-g4.img from your package to SDcard, then flash TWRP again from PC using adb:
adb reboot booloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-g4.img
(the above failed initially with with the message FAILED (command write failed (Invalid argument), so I did fastboot reboot-bootloader and repeated the flashing procedure)
From there on followed your guide exactly (I used ator_thepiguy_lineage-14.1-20190408-UNOFFICIAL-h815.zip)
Afterwards installed Magisk Manager 7.1.2 (Magiskmanager dot com) and flashed Magisk 19.1 using TWRP.
Rebooted, downloaded and activated the VIPER4Android module.
Everything works fine, I'm now a happy Lineage OS user!
Updated tutorial for Android 8.1 or 9.
Updated pack in consequence.
Did T-Mobile Device Unlock on my H811 so I was able to skip the LG website part, did the rest of it using adb.exe push bringing files over to /external_sd/, got it running twrp-3.3.1 and Lineage 15.1, not bad. Thanks for your post!
First of all, thank you for this post, everything worked like a charm besides a little problem, there's no connection when enabling mobile data. Wi-fi is fine. Is there anyone who ran into a similar problem after the upgrade? Thanks.

HowTo "Unbrick" U-Ultra

Hi all,
this may be helpful for all that have similar problems as I had.
After experiencing with custom ROMs, I wasn't able to boot into System and also not into Recovery anymore (ended in a bootloop).
Because I tried to flash back to a Stock ROM via RUU I also relocked my bootloader and unlocking wasn't possible anymore because the unlock option was not active and not accessible without a system.
Unfortunately there's only the Nougat RUU available and I previously had Oreo installed.
As I also have S-ON, it's not possible to flash back to the Nougat RUU.
I was only able to access the phone in bootloader mode and with fastboot.
Prerequisites:
You should be able to access your phone via fastboot, so the correct USB drivers should be installed on your PC
How did I solve this:
I downloaded the following RUU.exe from US HTC website - I'm not able to post links, but you can find it via Google: HTC U Ultra Firmware Update
Start it and go to "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp" (on Windows 10), there you can find a temporary folder of the RUU.exe, for example {50F2F878-636A-496F-A7CB-544C067E0C4B}
You can find some files like adb.exe, htc_fastboot.exe, rom.zip, ...
Copy the folder to any location you want and close the RUU application
I then downloaded the Oreo OTA zip for my phone from androidfilehost (Thank you minhnewpro ) - see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/u-ultra/development/ruu-collection-htc-ultra-nougat-t3830999
Unzip the OTA and copy the firmware.zip to the previously copied folder from RUU (here: {50F2F878-636A-496F-A7CB-544C067E0C4B})
Start the phone into Bootloader or Download Mode and connect it to the PC
Open the commandline on the PC and cd to the copied folder from RUU
Enter the following Commands:
htc_fastboot oem rebootRUUhtc_fastboot flash zip firmware.ziphtc_fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
htc_fastboot flash zip firmware.zip needs to be done twice, in the first run I got the following error: FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately )
The second time it went through without any error.
Now my phone works again and has the Oreo Stock ROM installed!
I hope this method also works for other phones and not just mine
Greetings
Thank you.
This method works with my HTC U Ultra dual sim.
Thank you very much.

Hello, I tried this method, but it can't flash the firmware, "FAILED (remote: cannot flash this partition in s-on state)" . Bootloader is the only way I can enter, Download mode or Recovery mode doesn't work("Can't enter download mode, use volume + or - to go back"). Any other methods available?
