Lg k20 Plus twrp won't boot. - LG K20 Plus Questions & Answers

So i wanted to create a key mapping for android over my android game using my xbox one controller but all the apps that allow it require rooting. So i quickly came here to see if it was rootable and surely my model was listed. LG k20 Plus MP260, So i go and download adb tap my build number, do the usb debugging, allow oem unlocking, downloaded the Lg drivers, moved the recovery.img to the adb file folder directory, moved the super user Zip file and the no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.Zip to the internal storage of the phone. Then run Shift+ Right click adb reboot bootloader using Windows powershell command line and i'm in fastboot mode (I can also just power the phone off and hold the volume down button and plug usb into phone to get into it). So i use fastboot devices to make sure the computer recognized my device and it does. Note: (the bootloader is already unlocked) Then i use fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and it flashes. what happens next is well. I use fastboot reboot and well i get "Your device software cannot be checked for corruption lock the bootloader" and below that it say "PRESS THE POWER KEY TO CONTINUE" i press the power key and it boots up normally. In the video's i've watched they say it will boot into the system twrp and my phone is not doing this. I'm willing to let someone team view me and skype me so we can work this out together and i'm even willing to pay 20$ if we can get this done. Please message me asap

I have the exact same problem. Did you ever figure it out?

Bumping an oldish thread, because this still exists. Custom recovery isn't very useful when you can't get to it without reflashing it every time.

Did you find a solution? I've been fighting my LG K20 plus metroPCS for over 2 weeks. It won't go into download mode or recovery. In recovery it skips over the reset page. I think the phone is possessed lol.

Got to OnePlus support center and go in download section and download official ROM. Hold power and volume up bottons and connect it to PC. After that go in folder where adb files are located on your PC (If you don't have them, search on Google for "adb install 15 sec"). Hold left shift on your keyboard and right click your mouse in that folder on an empty space. Click something related with command window and type "fastboot devices". If you get some kind of feedback it's 2minute of work! If you don't have anything come up, try to start your device in fastboot mode again (second sentence in this post). After you got a feedback from command "fastboot devices" flash custom recovery (I suggest TWRP, Google it and download the .IMG file for your device). To flash a custom recovery type this in command line: "fastboot flash recovery IMAGE_NAME.img"
*replace IMAGE_NAME with actual image name...
After that boot in recovery by disconnecting the phone and powering off the phone. Press and hold power button and volume down buttons till blue TWRP logo appears. After that connect your device on PC and transfer your .Zip file(ROM) to internal memory of your device. You should go back to main menu of recovery and select wipe>advanced wipe, select everything BUT INTERNAL STORAGE!!!***IMPORTANT***
Then you just install ROM like you would normally do...
Press thanks it i helped! Hope I didn't missed something.
This is written in mind with that you have unlocked bootloader like you have written in your post...

Fallow this and don't trust any guides written out of memory with likely any mistakes.. (no offense)
This guide has various approaches to recover your phone, remember to research first and don't type carelessly any adb commands, it's not enough to just tick "oem unlock" in developer options, you'd have to type command on fastboot too, to unlock the bootloader.. there are many guides and youtube tutorials on this subject, absolutely unnecessary to blindly kill it, anyways I'll never understand how you can be so reckless with your phone..

Don't!
If you get no joy from following the instructions in the link given by @Sam Nakamura, try @fareed_xtreme's Official OP2 Stock Reset to OOS 3.0.2

If you can get in the bootloader then possibly the device is still OK. Just need to get the right ROM.
Try different TWRP versions. Sometimes, one particular version can save the world.

[Sharing Method] Bootloader Locked+Dead Boot+OEM Lock+Recovery Stuck

Hello XDA
As title say, I 'm going share my experience in this thread.
History
I purchased this device almost 8 month back.Purchased from a local store. Was very smooth and i was satisfied with the performance.Battery was good.Got regular update and these updates are from google,so why not install it,right? Then this Android N came, and i was so happy.7.0.0 was good. Then the nightmare 7.1.2 came.Phone started to lag continuously,Battery drained too much. But I was like Okay.May be this will fixed in new update. Then suddenly one day my phone was stuck. Not booting.Stucked at Google.I understood that phone already booted and fingerprint was too working but it showed nothing on display just black light.I was afraid as i didn't purchase it from Google Play or any authorized seller. So no warranty or chance of having replacement. So I started searching about this issue and found not only me many people are facing this. But there are no proper guideline or solving this issue.Tried everything and ended up with Locked Bootloader Irony!
Journey
As i never try to mess with my phone because it was Nexus 5x! So i never touch OEM or try to unlock the bootloader. So i tried to access stock recovery,But Alas! in recovery Volume up and down wasn't working. So I couldn't wipe or factory reset. So Now ended up with :
1.Locked Bootloader
2.Locked OEM
3.Recovery Stuck
Googled and found many solutions but none of them came to solve my issue. So i thought why not flash stock rom.But HOW! Cause fastboot only work with unlocked bootloader. And you can't unlock bootloader when your OEM is locked and you can't unlock it with fastboot. It can be only unlocked from developer option only.GOD!
Now I have only 2 options left:
1.Fastboot mod where no functions working
2.Download Mod (This will save you)
Now fastboot option is out and only download mod option is available. So what can i do with Download Mod?
LGUP TOOL helped me.Downloaded a tot file for Global version (LGH791) and flashed it and stucked at google logo and in recovery too.But next time i flashed the same file in a different way.Ok here it is:
1.Drivers are important here.I'm using windows 10.I have adb and fastboot and Lg drivers.Workplace okay.
2.Opened device manager and change the com port of Android phone 3 to 41. Port Changed!
3.Connected my phone to pc using 3rd party cable (Careful here, try to use original cable.) and entered into download mod and.
4.Opened LGUP Tool ,checked REFURBISHED mod, checked BIN file and select the tot file downloaded before. And quicky close it.(No need to click start)
5.Then again opened lg tool and click start.(BIN Checked and it showed the previously selected tot file). No need add anything new this time, just open and click START.
6.Rebooted and again stucked at Google screen. But wait! recovery is working.Pressing and holding volume up button for a while then a android logo with red cross inside will come up.Now holding power button and volume down button at the same time,Recovery will show and menu is working.Great!
7.Now Wiped cache and factory reset. And after that selected Apply update from Adb sideload
8.My device was connected to pc from the beginning, right? Now i downloaded a file previously called bullhead-ota-opp2.170420.019-c449d2bb.zip from Google Nexus 5x OTA update page.
9.In Adb folder, copied the file and named it ota.zip.Opened a command prompt using shift+right click in the folder.Phone was on Adb sideload mode.Typing this command adb sideload ota.zip
10.This took more than 8-9 minutes to finish. After flashing and phone rebooted.WOW
11.Couldn't believe my eyes. The OTA update was about Android O.I quickly enabled the developer menu and made oem unlcocked and usb debugging on.Boot into bootloader and unlock bootloader with this command fastboot flashing unlock
12.Now bootloader is unlocked and i flashed TWRP recovery for future need.
13.Rebooted the phone and after using for 1 minute the phone freezed again
14.This is the end of the story for today.
Planning
I'm thinking the OTA update was the problem. Now I'm downloading 6.0.1 version. And will do a clean install.Let's see what happens next.
Any kind of help is appreciated. If you think there is something i'm missing here then please suggest.
And Thanks to XDA.I got all these helps from here. Will update the post tomorrow.
You downloaded Android O Developer Preview. Final OTAs are here:
https://developers.google.com/android/ota
Just try flashing newest Factory Image via fastboot, but don't forget to flash TWRP back:
https://developers.google.com/android/images
TBH I NEVER thought this phone will be dead by hardware failure all of a sudden, I dont mind another few hundreds bucks but the problem now is the fking data within it.
Cant even pass google logo if you choose Recovery Mode
GG LG, well played
I have a 16gb variant dead....same issue like urs .....can i use the same lgh791 tot file?... in fastboot it says lgh791 16gb
usefully
usefully
I STRONGLY recommend that the original post is corrected to change "Download mod" to "Download mode" in all of its four occurences.
Same for one ocurrence of "Fastboot mod".
It is horribly confusing as it is, as calling them "mod" implies some modification you have to apply to the phone (be it software or hardware).
same of my expirience, flash 4CoreOreo..
my nexus 5x now is fully working

I suppose that makes sense. Then again, when an instruction is telling you to boot into download mod.....using common sense I'm gonna understand that's a typo and they meant download mode. But you're right, for some folks that may be a bit of a challenge. Common sense isn't as common as it was when I was young.
And the links?
I'm brazilian and i'm having a hard time to find the links to download stuff. Mine is dead and bootloader blocked. The tutorial seems to work but i can't understand well
Interesting. Thanks

I know it's the wrong forum, but....please take a look

I really need the help of one or more of this forums intelligent minds. As I'm sure you'll see, I've posted this in the QA forum, but have had no hits so far....thus the reason for posting here.
So, about 6mos ago, my Nexus 10 stopped working and I couldn't get it back working...eventually moved onto a new tablet, which now I hate....
Anyway, I figured I'd head back to my N10 because I loved it. However, one of the reasons I left it was because it was stuck in bootloop and I was pretty sure it was bricked.
The bad news, I have followed MANY, if not ALL, of the suggestions on getting it back, I just cannot get it to boot. The good news, fastboot connects with the tablet. So, some specifics:
The tablet WILL boot into fastboot and I can send commands and the tablet is unlocked (also, I believe someone said they had issues because they had an older version of ADB and Fastboot. I'm pretty sure I downloaded the 'most current' version 1.4.3). So, with that, I was able to do the fastboot erase functions, such as cache, userdata, system, etc... and then also load the bootloader (mantafm01) and also send the stock .zip file (image-mantaray-....) and the tablet appears to load everything fine. Thumbs up, right? However, when it reboots it stops at the 'erasing' android bot and will not pass that. I left the tablet in that state for a few minutes all the way up to 3 days...no success.
I also tried the above using Wugfresh only to have the same thing occur. So, basically, I am stuck at 'erasing' and I don't know what to do. I feel confident that the tablet has the ability to be brought back to life, I just cannot figure out how/why all of the attempts lead to the same issue.
What I can also tell you is that while fastboot 'sees' the tablet, the tablet does not appear as a device in "My Computer" like it normally did when connecting via USB. I am using the original USB cable and have tried on multiple computers, all to no avail. I've downloaded/installed the drivers, as instructed on many links. Also, while I can get to the 'Recovery Mode' by pressing Power, Volume Up, Volume Down, if I choose "Recovery Mode" on the tablet, it reboots and goes to the 'erasing' screen. I have tried flashing TWRP on the tablet using fastboot as well. And, sometimes, not all the time, the TWRP blue/black screen appears but it will not progress past that screen (i.e., it doesn't go into recovery).
So, if you can, please help. I believe I have followed all of the instructions, but I have to be missing something or not following something correctly. I'm stoked that it looks like it's only soft-bricked, I just can't get it un-bricked.
Thanks in advance! I'm at my wits' end
Try fastbooting a recovery like TWRP thati s updated then flash a rom.
disclaimer: I might be no help at all!
You have fastboot -- go learn all the fastboot commands... you need to know the tools and figure a solution!
erase... hmm? why? What about factory reset? I see you are not using LOS 13 but stock image... need root? Basically, I would factory reset/wipe sdcard, then install recovery (TWRP) [okay, so first you would need to use fastboot to install custom recovery)...THEN, push (fastboot an image.zip (LOS or stock) to sdcards, install, and reboot!
Good to have WUG... another tool in the chest (I have never seen it or used it)
Ok, so one clue is that if your computer cannot see it, that says to me RED FLAG... ADB drivers? but you say fastboot works, hmm... I think this is the problem... Koush's universal ADB drivers? official Google drivers? Could these help!
Erasing screen? Hmm...
I would say, for the hell of it, try flashing different ROMs, Recoveries, and Drivers.... you are basically trying to...
Factory Reset/wipe SDcard [system, cache, ... everything], Flash custom recovery (optional), then, some how (fastboot or mycomputer) get an image on to /sdcard, then, install, then, reboot!
Good luck!

Why not try this
I have not had this problem with my Nexus 10 but I did once with my Nexus 7 and it may help you.
Instead of trying to flash TWRP and run it (which is not working for you) why not boot into a temporary copy of TWRP and then work from that? To flash TWRP normally (persuming you had renamed the img file to TWRP which makes it easier) you would enter 'fastboot flash recovery twrp.img'. Instead of doing that type 'fastboot boot twrp.img'. This boots into TRWP and from there you will be able run all the options and from there flash TWRP and other images as normal.
If you are having problems with drivers have you used 'USBDeview' ? Run this as Administrator and delete all references to any phone or tablet USB driver and particularly look for devices with Vendor ID '18d1' or '04e8'. Just select them, right click on them and select 'Uninstall Selected Devices'. When they are all cleared reboot your computer and plug your tablet in and it should install the correct driver.
Another option I used successfully with a Nexus 7 in a boot loop was to connect it while running Linux. I don't have a Linux on a computer so I installed one in 'Oracle VM VirtualBox' I don't know Linux but after Googling for help I installed Peppermint Linux and then ADB for Linux. I downloaded the 'TWP' image into a folder in Linux and any other images I wanted. Connect your tablet to the USB port and then on the top menu in VirtualBox select 'Devices' then 'USB' and tick the option which shows your tablet. I then went into what we call a command prompt in Windows but which they call 'Terminal'. Then type 'ADB devices' and if you see it on the list use ADB instead of fastboot. As I mentioned my Nexus 7 was in a boot loop so I typed 'ADB wait-for-device' and as soon as it looped to a point where ADB could see it then the looping stopped and I could flash the images and recover the tablet.
All the best. I hope you are successful.
As long as you can get into bootloader mode, your good.
NOW
If you can't get into boot loader mode? as far as I know...
You're ****ed.
Unless you want to set up usb boot (might not work on Exynos, idk, this is magic to me) and solder the connectors and flash it like they do in factories. That's next level **** too, and considering an N10 is 100$ on amazon you're better off just grabbing a new one.

Bricked Chinese version, only ADB sideload is working. Appreciate any help.

Hi,
Messed up badly Furious that ZTE made the phone incompatible with Daydream, decided to root the device. Tried various ROMs, but could never get the modem to work in the UK. Eventually tried to reinstall Chinese stock ROM and, to my surprise, the modem still didn't work. Attempted to restore the modem files from TWRP backup and bricked the phone completely. Can only boot into Chinese recovery where only ADB sideload enables the phone to be seen by Windows as Android ADB Interface. EDL mode cannot be seen and Axon7toolkit cannot see the phone even in ADB sideload mode. Attempts to update software result in this message: Package expects build fingerprint of ZTE/P996A03/ailsa_ii:6.0.1/MMB29M/20161027.021856:user/release-keys or ZTE/P996A03/ailsa_ii:7.1.1/NMF26F/20170224.135053:user/release-keys ; this device has ZTE/P996A03/ailsa_ii:7.1.1/NMF26V/20170912.013327:user/release-keys. Most likely, updates won't work anyway, because when the phone was running, updates resulted in a mismatch. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

You messed up real bad. I assume you forgot to flash the modem files when you flashed the custom ROMs?
EDL mode cannot be seen? What do you mean by that? Keep the Device Manager open, phone disconnected; then hold both volume buttons, wait 5 seconds, connect the USB cable while you are holding them, and wait 3 seconds more before releasing them. The device manager should refresh.
The phone should appear under Ports (COM & LPT) or under USB devices as QUSB_BULK. If it is under USB devices you have to right click on it, Uninstall -> Delete driver software. After that hold all 3 buttons for a long time (both volume buttons and power) and device manager should refresh itself. It should install the Qualcomm driver then. If the driver is ZTE handset diagnostic interface, you'll have to disassemble the phone

Thanks. The phone is listed as ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface(DFU) (COM10) in Ports. It is listed as Unknown USB Device in USB Controllers and following the procedure you described doesn't install the Qualcomm driver. I take it, then, that an engineer would have to disassemble the phone.

Where are you getting adb sideload from?

Well, with your help I may snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. I'll ask one of the local engineers to dismantle the phone according to your guide and we'll see what we can do. The adb sideload screen is in this photo.
Thanks again.

You still have one other option though. May save you.
Do you have an SD card? If not, get at least a 4 GB one (or one with 3gb free), download an official A2017 update package, unzip it and put the update.zip in the sd card. (If you get a bunch of folders instead of a file called update.zip just take the original zip and put it in the SD).
after that, put it in the sd card and select the option that says 'sd'.
It may work. Right now it's your best shot at not taking it apart

That's forbidden. When I've tried to update from the SD card using that option, I get a message saying I don't have permission to update from the SD card. I will, however, try again because you've mentioned some things that are slight variations on what I've done before.

Yeah, it's possible. But I have one more idea. Can you try one other thing?
There's a way to get to EDL if you have only DFU mode, which is by getting adb (not adb sideload, just normal adb) and issuing "adb reboot edl". If you can get adb (i think you may have adb from the main recovery screen) then you can get to EDL and flash stuff with MiFlash. Try to issue 'adb reboot edl' when you are on the main screen of the recovery mode.
The other way, which might work on your state, is turning the phone off and holding volume down + power. It might open FTM mode (it's a white rectangle in the middle of the screen with the words FTM written on it, can't miss it). If you get there just issue 'adb reboot edl' and flash with MiFlash

Thanks, but I've already tried it. The phone only communicates with the computer in adb sideload mode, so trying adb reboot edl results in an "error:closed" message. If not in sideload mode, adb cannot even register a device. Occasionally, I've seen a small Linux penguin in the middle of the screen and today it hung on the MiFavor logo for some time. If those are significant, I don't know how to get them back. The ZTE engineers have been very thorough. It's frustratiing because the adb sideload thing might work with the right software package, and I can clear the cache and wipe the system; but then I'm back to square one. Your suggestion about dismantling the phone sounds like the most promising path forward and I will have a go tomorrow.

So you get the 5 seconds screen? Have you tried to enter fastboot?
If I'm right, you get the Linux penguin when you hit the power button when you are on the 5 seconds screen (the 'Your device can't be checked for corruption' screen). If it appears, use a volume button to get to the options, select 'Bootloader' and try to enter Bootloader mode. It should have fastboot, being an A2017.
If you get to fastboot you can issue 'fastboot boot twrp.img' and your phone will boot into TWRP. Take Lineage, the Universal Bootloader and the A2017 modem and flash them, then format data, and you'll be good to go.

I do indeed get the 5 seconds screen, but the reason I didn't mention it is that it does nothing from what I can see. The phone "boots" after five seconds, but if I press the volume buttons to enter options, Bootloader is not one of them. The Fastboot option just makes the phone reboot and the Recovery option sends me to the screen in the photo upthread. Like I say, they've been very thorough.

Curioser and curioser. I went through the steps to short circuit the test point on the motherboard and MiFlash successfully flashed the Unbrick ROM which you advised. Obviously, the Qualcomm drivers were recognised e.t.c. The state of the phone now is that it is caught in a boot loop. It shows the ZTE screen and the 5-second screen. Going into recovery on the 5-second screen causes the ZTE logo to appear again, then the battery icon keeps showing, switching off and showing again. The Fastboot mode on the 5-second screen now takes me to the Fastboot screen, but entering recovery causes the same battery loop. Did I make a mistake reassembling the phone perhaps? Should I try to flash a different ROM from the test point?

So now you have fastboot? Put the TWRP-3.2.1-0.img on the adb folder, then open CMD, navigate to that folder, write 'fastboot boot TW" and press Tab, the filename should appear, if it does hit Enter
If you get to TWRP don't turn the phone off, and flash the universal bootloader, Lineage, the A2017 modem, and Magisk 15.2

Sorry, I didn't make that clear. The 5-second screen directs me to Fastboot, but there are only four options there: Start (doesn't work, obviously), Restart Bootloader (brings you back to the same place), Shut down and Recovery (goes to battery icon). Don't know what went wrong--maybe a connection got damaged when the phone was dismantled--but I discover I can't repeat the short circuiting thing and, even though the phone is seen on the system as Qualcomm 90.., MiFlash cannot flash anything different. I despair. I'll send the phone for recycling. Making the Axon 7 incompatible with Daydream was the last straw. I very much appreciate your help just the same.

No, when you are on the screen with the 4 options you have Fastboot. That is the bootloader mode. Get there and issue 'fastboot devices' and you'll see that you got fastboot from there.
Don't repeat the 4th category manual, just turn the phone off and hold volume up and down, then connect the USB. If it appears as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 you're in EDL.
What's the name of the package that you flashed?

You star! I've followed your advice and now it is exactly the phone I was looking for. (I had made a mistake and forgotten to reconnect something in the internals, but the ROM worked just fine once that was sorted and I've flashed all the things you recommended.) How I Rooted Walmart Onn Tablets (No TWRP Needed)

I'll be making a video for this with the 7 inch tablet on Nov. 29th or 30th (depending on the time I have)
General Disclaimer: I'm not responsible if you brick your tablet. This is how I did it personally as other methods here didn't work for me. I have yet to test this method on a 7 inch, also do not have access to the Surf variants. This has only been tested on the 10.1 inch with the keyboard. Will update when I test with the 7 inch.
What's Needed:
MTK Fastboot Drivers: https://online.mediatek.com/Public Documents/MTK_Android_USB_Driver.zip
Magisk Manager Canary: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/dev-magisk-canary-channel-bleeding-edge-t3839337
Stock Boot Image: https://forum.xda-developers.com/wa...eral/stock-stock-backups-images-otas-t3998227
ADB and Fastboot: https://www.xda-developers.com/what-is-adb/
Prerequisites:
Personally, I had issues getting my PC to recognize the tablets in Fastboot mode. The drivers wouldn't install. This might be optional for some of you, but I thought I'd include it just in case.
Installing MTK Fastboot Drivers from the link above
If you plugin your device in fastboot mode and your PC doesn't recognize it, follow these steps. If it did, skip this part.
1.) Download the drivers above and unzip the Zip file somewhere on your PC (desktop or My Documents is easiest)
2.) Boot your Tablet into Fastboot Mode by holding Vol + and Power, then select Fastboot from the Menu
*NOTE* There is a bug with these tablet's that the volume buttons are mislabeled. Really dumb, but I guess that's why they were 55 bucks for the 10 inch on black friday
3.) Plug the device into your PC and open Device Manager by pressing WinKey+R and typing devmgmt.msc, hit Enter
4.) If there's an Other Device listed called Android, follow these steps. If it isn't there, follow the next set of steps
5.) Open a Command Prompt window as Admin and type the following command
Code:
bcdedit.exe /set nointegritychecks on
6.) Hit enter, then restart your PC
7.) Once the PC is restarted, make sure your tablet is connected in Fastboot mode and open Device Manager again
8.) Right click Android under Other Devices and select Update Drivers
9.) Click the Browse my Computer for driver software button and select the MTK Folder you extracted from the download link above
10.) From there, you can open command prompt, type fastboot devices and see if your tablet shows up and move on to root!
Unlocking your Bootloader
From here, you can unlock your bootloader very easily to Root your device
This will wipe all data off the tablet!
0.) Enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging on the tablet by going to Settings->About and tap Build Number 7 times. From here, enter the new Developer Options that unlock and turn on OEM Unlock and USB Debugging.
1.) Boot your tablet into Fastboot mode and connect it to your PC
2.) Open a Command Prompt window and type the following command, then hit enter
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
3.) Follow the instructions on screen to unlock your bootloader
4.) Now Boot your device and we'll move on to making a rooted Boot Image
Creating a Rooted Boot Image with Magisk Manager
0.) Make sure you already have Wifi setup and connected before the first time you open Magisk Manager on your device! Make sure it auto connects as well
1.) Download Magisk Manager Canary from the link above
2.) Install it to your device
3.) Download boot Image from the Stock Boot Image part of the Prerequisites above and put the boot.img on your devices internal memory
4.) Open Magisk Manager and select Install Magisk
5.) Select Patch File and select the boot.img from your internal storage
6.) Once its done patching the image, take magisk_patched.img from the downloads folder of your device and move it onto your PC
7.) Boot your tablet into Fastboot mode and plug it into your PC
8.) Open Command Prompt and type the following command and hit enter (make sure you know your magisk_patched.img file location)
Code:
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
9.) Reboot the device and you'll be Rooted!
Optional Steps like Modules and Debloating
My basic debloat script: https://forum.xda-developers.com/wa...s-general/root-walmart-bloat-remover-t4011639
Will be testing GSI roms on the spare 7 inch and will list those here
Recommended Magisk Modules:
Viper4Android Legacy
FDE.AI
MagiskHide Props Config
Systemless Hosts
Youtube Vanced Black
Magisk Setting to Enable:
Magisk Hide
Rename Magisk Manager App (keeps app from detecting magisk root)

Myself for this root method @byproxy for reminding me to add the steps for OEM Unlock and enabling wifi before opening Magisk Manager for the first time
I'll start this off saying i'm an amateur at this, but I cannot for the life of me get an option to show up in magisk to patch the boot image even though it's on my 7" tablet. Any thoughts?
The bootloader was unlocked and it was successful so that's not the issue.
Are you online? I had the same problem.

Forced factory reset should do it. There is small pin hole near the power button. I believe pressing this hidden button(with a Sim card ejector, or paper clip).
If pressing does not do anything. Maybe press the button then hold power button too

Thank you for responding so fast. I've boot into recovery mode /wiped everything...its back to factory. The pinhole reset button does nothing other than reboot it . Ive tried all combos to with the reset button but nothing. Also i've read that its possible to use odin? if i can get it into download mode.
Ive downloaded the stock rom posted on an sdcard wondering if i can possibly update in recovery mode? Im sorta a newb at this stuff. I've been reading for 4 days on this matter. I've practiced a root on an old tablet with success. I guess at this point unless i can sell it as is giving the customer that it has this frp lock on it. If the know how to fix it so be it. Im not sure there is a working solution for frp bypass on these tablets.

This is an mtk device not Samsung. So there is no Odin or download mode. There is spflash tool, and preloader.
And if you flash firmware (with default frp partition) then frp lock is cleared.
But you will have to find that file. It maybe in the stock firmwares that are shared, I do not know.
EDIT:
i was having issues but figure it out. maybe it should be so common knowledge that it shouldn't need to be included as a step, but since i don't do this THAT often i didn't think about it and it took me a bit to figure out why i was having issues.
once you get your computer to recognize your device (mine did without needing to mess with any drivers) you need to first make sure to got into the tablet settings -> about and then tap on the build number 7 times to access developer options. then you need to go into developer options and turn on OEM Unlocking & USB Debugging.
THEN follow the guide to unlock bootloader.
then (since the tablet is factory reset once you unlock) do the above AGAIN to turn USB Debugging back on after you reboot.
also note that you need to have an internet connection on the tablet to utilize magisk. once you got all that square, then continue on with steps for full root.
hope that helps!

I was able to remove FRP lock on one of mine by flashing the stock rom with SP Flash Tool. I used the full wipe and download selection with every partition selected including boot.
no worries! i didn't think about it either until i was having issues. thanks for the tutorial... it was super helpful!! btw it definitely works on the 8" tablet.
Hello! I'm new to all of this, but what I'm trying to accomplish is removing the Google account from this tablet and putting a new image on the ONA19TB002, ONA19TB003, ONA19TB007, Surf 7 and 10 tablets. I followed all of the steps as far as installing the drivers. I had to go through hoops to get the MediaTek Drivers installed, but I have a "warning" cone by it. I haven't been able to find any resolution to this. Any help would be appreciated. I' have a Windows 10 64-bit system that I'm using and the tablet I'm specifically working on at the moment is the ONN ONA19TB003 tablet. The tablet is not being recognized by my laptop when I run the 'fastboot devices' command in PowerShell. Is there something that I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated.

Personally, I avoid PowerShell at all costs. This kinda stuff has always just seemed to work better with CMD.exe instead of Powershell.
These tablets are kind of a nightmare for this. If you've done the mediatek drivers and still have the warning cone icon, I'm not sure what's next as I haven't hit that wall myself. All I can maybe recommend is right click delete drivers in Device Manager, then start over with the driver install
Removing the Google Account would be needing a FRP Bypass. Someone above stated "I was able to remove FRP lock on one of mine by flashing the stock rom with SP Flash Tool. I used the full wipe and download selection with every partition selected including boot. " so if you can get it recognized, try that

Ok, thank you! This is a shot in the dark, but in order for ADB to work, USB debugging has to be enabled. I can't do that as the tablet is locked by FRP and I have looked countless times on Google and MSN to see if it's possible. Do you have any tips for that?
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but for some reason I can't seem to get. The tablet to stay in fastboot mode. It just says waiting for device.

Sorry for late reply. Been away from home with work. When fastboot mode indicates "waiting for device," it generally means that your device is not properly communicating with your PC or laptop. This is nearly always due to missing or incorrect drivers 9n your computer. There are several comprehensive guides here on XDA for installing necessary ADB & Fastboot drivers.
installed magisk manager on onn 8 and also have img zip but win i go to patch it magisk manager crashes
when you mean patch boot img do mean to unzip file on onn 8
