Asus Zenpad 10 3s [P027] Chinese Version Rom without any Google services/apps - Asus ZenPad 10 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to start this thread, in order to ask for your kind help in turning the Chinese Rom of the Asus Zenpad 10 3s [P027] to any other Rom that provides Google services/apps, as you may know all Google services and apps are banned in China, so the original Rom the Pad comes with, doesn't provide any of the previous. I've been following other threads, and so far haven't found anything very useful on this topic.
There are currently no available updates to Android 7.0 yet. Thus, it is a bit hard to use the tools people have managed to root the device have provided.
Android Version:
6.0
Android Security Patch Level:
August 1, 2017
Kernel Version:
3.18.19

Build Number:
MRA58L.CN_Zenpad-13.0610.1708.30-20170909
I'd really appreciate if anyone could provide any directions or point out anything that could be done, thank you very much! :fingers-crossed:

Same problem here. Any updates on this?

Nothing yet man, without android 7 is hard to try anything they have so far. I hope they update soon!

I doubt there is enough demand to get an fix for this issue on XDA, especially since the manufacturer has this tablet locked down really tight. I think our best hope is that someone who is bilingual might be able to find a solution on the Chinese internet and post it here.

I've been asking in some Chinese Forums also, but the problem is that Chinese people don't really use Google services/apps. So as you said, we're a bit stuck here.
Should we email them or something, I mean Asus?
Maybe if we sent it to Taiwan, and get the Taiwanese Rom, somehow?

I sent an e-mail to ASUS a while ago and got this:
Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting ASUS Service Care.
My name is Ashley and it's my pleasure to help you with your problem.
To approach your questions……
Because of the regional policy limited, asus can’t build Google GMS Service Pack in product that be sold in Chinese mainland.
So there is no Google Play app in your pad. And the Google Play could not be used on the pad.
You can download apps through browser.

This is what I got
I'm in the middle of this, I'll let you know what they reply.
I think it'll be a bit useless, but let's see what they say.
Update: Ended up in the same answer they gave you @yngwieromeo
We have read a lot of forums and so far we can't find one that has been able to do the firmware change to TW, JP or any other that could use the google play.
We don't mind loosing the guarantee, since the Pads so far are pretty much useless to us. Could you please refer us to a site where is well explained how to do the change of firmware, we would really appreciate it.
Or is there any Asus Office or Maintenance Center, we could visit outside of China (HK, TW, SG, UK, etc.) that could help us with this matter?
Thank you very much for your help again, and hope to hear from you soon!

If you want to change the Firmware to WW/TW.
You can try to find the way to change the Firmware of the pad from internet. But if you change the Firmware Version, you will lose the warranty of the pad.

[Product Information]
Product Type : ZenPad
Product Model : ASUS ZenPad 3S 10(Z500M)
Operation System / Firmware or BIOS version : Android 6.0
Kernel ver: 3.18.19

[Problem Description]
I purchased two ZenPad 10 3s [P027] in China. They come originally without any Google services and apps, which make it very difficult for me to work in my company because all of our services are Google based. Also, the Android version is outdated compared to other roms you have available in other countries, and our company is moving to another country soon.
I would like to know if I can travel to Hong Kong or Taiwan and you can change the Chinese version to another country's version which support Google services.
I would really appreciate it, since we cannot use the tablets as we intended. Thank you for your support!

There was a recent post in another thread about a bootloader unlock utility on the Asus site. Perhaps that can give you the jump start you need to get a U.S. based ROM. I'm no expert. Just putting it out there.

There is only a toast “The device model is not supported.”
Maybe ASUS just forgot about the Chinese version.

Any updates?

Tethered boot to twrp and just flashing the image won't work?

Any get this to work yet?

I have tried to Boot in Recovery mode and tried to install the original WW version from SD card and with ADB sideload, but it failed. Very easy thing to try but just starting to test stuff and see where can I get to progressively (until I brick it haha).
For your reference the Error messages displayed on both cases were as follows:

This package is for "WW_P027" devices; this is a "CN_P027".

UPDATE: I've tried the following with no success posted by @toineh :
1. Install "Magisk Manager" on your device
Downloaded the Magisk Manager Apk from their official site and installed on the Zenpad
https://******************/
2. Be sure the "boot.img" is available to select
I downloaded the original Asus firmware from their website https://www.asus.com/us/Tablets/ASUS...HelpDesk_BIOS/ "Version CN_V13.0610.1708.30" then extracted the zip into my PC and copied the extracted folder into the Zenpad's SD card (don't copy it into the internal storage, you need to have a SD card) Check that you can access the "boot.img" file inside the folder you just copied into the SD card
3. Select "install" in "Magisk Manager" and "Patch Boot Image File"
Clicked install in Magisk Manager, then it asks if you want a zip or patch a boot image file, chose "Patch a Boot Image file" it asks for permissions to access your files and I allowed it, then send me a message saying that I have to disable overlay which kept me doing unnecessary things for a while, how I got passed it was to just go to the apps permission tab and allow it manually to access my files and folders. Then selected the "boot.img" file on my SD card and got this message, saying the patched boot imagine is on the "Download" folder on my Zenpad's internal storage
Results displayed:
Code:
-copying image to cache
-Device platform: arm64-v8a
-Downloading zip
... 100%
-Extracting files
-Boot image is signed with AVB 1.0
-Signing boot image with test keys
**********************************
Patched image is placed in
/storage/emulated/0/Download/patched_boot.img
**********************************
Done!
4. Search in file manager /sdcard/MagiskManager/ for "patched_boot.img"
In my case the "patched_boot.img" file was on /storage/emulated/0/Download/patched_boot.img
The file was 10,070 KB
5. Copy the patched image to your PC. keep the storage location in mind
I copied the "patched_boot.img" file from my Zenpad into the same directory where I run adb from c:\adb on my PC
6. Connect your P027 to your PC using USB
Had already installed the drivers and ADB to my PC, plugged the tab with the original Asus USB -C cable and set it into file transfer mode.
7. Open terminal and type "adb reboot bootloader"
First run command "adb devices" to check that it detects my Zenpad
Code:
C:\adb>adb devices
List of devices attached
H9NPCV******** device
Then typed "adb reboot bootloader"
Code:
C:\adb>adb reboot bootloader
C:\adb>
The Zenpad enters fastboot mode, you can run "fastboot devices" to check that it detects it
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot devices
H9NPCV******* fastboot
8. when done, you type "fastboot boot patched_boot.img"
This gives me the following:
Code:
C:\adb>fastboot boot patched_boot.img
Downloading 'boot.img' OKAY [ 0.486s]
booting FAILED (remote: 'oem unlock is false')
Finished. Total time: 0.512s
The Zenpad showed:
Code:
USB Transferring......
USB transmission OK Time: 423ms Vel: 24376KB/s
After reading other threads, I guess what I'm missing is the oem unlock tool from @diplomatic
Anyone has any thoughts on this? would appreciate any help!
Cheers!

Thank you for keeping up with the work rodrigo

Any more information come out, yet?

Possible method to flash WW
I have a method that will probably work to convert this tablet to a WW version ROM. I don't have this tablet to try it out on, but I can guide someone through the process. Someone (@rodrigoeblanco?) please contact me by PM if you'd like to explore it with me. Note that there is a small risk involved and you should be somewhat familiar with Linux shell commands. If this works out, I will make a proper guide for everyone...

But Lenovo has changed everything on android and they call it OS 2.0 (= Android 2.2 )

hi, the thinkpad tablet never came with anything lower than 3.1, also that isn't a valid model number for this tablet.
I think you must have something other than a thinkpad tablet
Cheers

Check here, shows the instructions for that model.

Yes i know this thread! But its just about rooting and installing google maps and the market... but the market in this thread isn't working anymore! i think the version is to old...
but i hate the lenove OS, i would like it to install another one or maybe develop my own one if CWM would work
it's this one: h**p://appserver.lenovo.com.cn/shop/shop_Detail.aspx?gdsid=A2100014142
Unfortunately, it's said that Lenovo has no any upgrade plan for this pad. LePad S1(Y1011) is the first mode of pad from Lenovo. the product, particularly its deep customized OS, is in very low maturity. short after its released to the market, it's ended production and replaced by A1 series pad. that's the situation, so disappointed, and angry. and finally, its ROM leaked.
i searched some Chinese forum and got the following leaked ROM:
* LePad S1 Ver_Wifi ROM here
* LePad S1 Ver_3G ROM here
* resource pack here
hope it helpful to you guys who may interested look into the code
Thanks for this informations! Does someone know what we can do with this files?
________________________________________________________________________
This files are working! While I tried to install Gapps i bricked my Y1011 and i was able to reflash everything by using fastboot and LePad S1 Ver_3G ROM.
thx again for the files
hi i have the same tablet and really heavy problems. i look at all chinese forums with google translation and it is horrible to find anything about a working custom firmware.
if you instal the upper firmware it will be nice to tell us something about the changes. when i want to download i didnt work download allways stopp. the name is the same like the orriginal number.
im loking for a stable full android version. im read that there is a chinese caled chita he costum firmware for the lephone and the lephone works normal withe leos like the lepad.
so if anybody knew news about the lepad y1011 it wil be nice to write it here.

yes i was able to install the firmeware above but ther are no changes! its just a leaked original version
at the moment i'm uploading the firmewares to uploaded.to
watch the 1. post
Thanks for your post. So i wont install the leaked rom if it isnt a full android. Do you know anything about Chitas Roms.
I worked with Costum Rom for my Archos Tablet and for HTC sensation xl but i m not god enough to custom a own one.
But i got Market place working without Gaaps. I have some mistakes with 492 but only by a few apps.
Thanks for upp the Files if I break it its easy to unbrick it. I will download it.
If some from China will inform us it will be very nice.
you have been able to install the market?! could you give me tutorial how you have done this? and thefiles you installed?
everytime i've tried it i bricked my device
(gerne auch auf deutsch )
At First German is on this forum not allowed. Forum rules (mir wärs auch lieber)
I have got market work with some mistakes on some files got mistake 492 if you find the APK on other Place the most will work but not with autoupdate.
Some Games will not work bcause the OS2.0.0 The Hardware is god enough
So here are how to do it
Install LeTools on Windows 7 PC. it is assumed that LenovoStore on your Lepad is already connected usin wifi.
Connect USB cable with Windows 7 PC
unzip attached file to your PC.
1. Copy all attached files to your LePad using LeTools in any known directory.
2. Use LePad filemanager and click on z4root.apk and install it. Its icon will appear on last Desktop
3. Use LePad file manager and click on Root_Explorer.apk and install it. Its icon will appear on last Desktop
4. Click on Z4root icon to run it. select temporary root permission
5. Click on Root_Explorer icon. It may say that it needs a restart to gain root access. so re run.
6. Now little hardwork. Find the folder where you copied the files. You have to copy following files to the folder /system/app
a. Vending.apk
b. Network location.apk
c. Market updater.apk
d. talk.apk
e. googleServicesFramework.apk
f. googlePartnerSetup.apk
7. Touch the file name and hold for a second, menu will appear. Select copy and go on top of listed files where .. is there for going to previous directory. keep going back till you reach the root folder.
8. Go to folder /system/app and touch the copy button at bottom of LePad screen.
9. Repeat the process for all above files.
10. Change the permissions on each copied file by touching the file name and holding for a second, from menu selecting permissions.
Select permissions as follows
User - Read and write
Group - Read
Others - Read
11. Now shutdown the LePad and then Power On.
12. Use file Manager and go to folder where you initially copied the files. Touch the Vending.apk to install it.
13. Now you should have Google market icon on Last Desktop.
14. All the best. You are needed to have a gmail account to use Google market.
I will look were i can Upload the files. If you start and stop the market it will automatik update to the 4.3.3

UK Nook Glowlight software 1.2.0 - Don't use glownooter

I got a uk glow worm on the 27th (2 days before release ) and one of the first things that I tried to do was to root with glownooter. Bad idea! I thought that I had bricked my device. I had to use a lot of trickery to recover from a loading screen lock-up and once I did the first thing that I did was backup my nook (Which i should have done before).
UPDATE!
Please try my new ROOT install pack HERE:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34216660#post34216660
This can be used to root and install the most requested things of this thread in just one zip.
Here is a quick guide to most things you will need to do to get started. I will update this guide as I discover and build new modifications.
To Backup and Restore
Follow this guide. Please do this BEFORE any other tinkering!
http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/20...-and-restore-nook-glow-and-nook-simple-touch/
Its important to check your backup before proceeding! Please listen to roustabout and dont skip this step... He knows what he's talking about
roustabout said:
I'd like to suggest an addition to the backup method that many folks are using - always test your restore, but dont test it (the first time) on your device.
Your backup file should be about 2 gig.
find a 2 gig or larger flash drive or sdcard and restore your backup image to that drive.
when you're done, there should be 8 partitions, as there were on your Nook to begin with.
If you can't get that working - you're not ready to root yet. Until you're sure you can restore, don't start making changes, please.
People turn up all the time having screwed themselves over by restoring a partial backup and not knowing it, or having restored only one partition from a complete backup and having blown out the partition table.

Thanks roustabout
To Root!
Make sure you use the CWM file suitable for your SD Card. I used "2gb_clockwork-rc2" because my card was 2gb+.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360994 (Thanks mali100)
Use WinImage with admin rights to restore CWM virtual hdd image to your SD.
Download tinynoot-1-of-2 and tinynoot-2-of-2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650593 (Thanks to eded333 and roustabout)
Put on CWM boot SD.
Install them in CWM back to back (I didn't bother with the restart in the middle as it should not make a difference considering the file content). After a restart you should have root access and an android launcher on your 1.2.0 Nook (among other files). If nook fails to boot one of the tinynoot files may have corrupted. Recover, Re-download and Retry!
To Add Apps
Using ADB to install apps is easy. Extract this to your C drive:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13673492/ADB + Fastboot + Drivers.zip
Navigate to the folder in a cmd prompt.
Drop your APK into the same folder and on your nook open the "adbwireless" app and enable ADB
That app will tell you what your nooks IP address is.
Then you can:
Code:
adb connect ip.address.of.nook:portnumber
adb install app_of_your_choice.apk
Setup ADB over USB
OK I have taken the liberty of building a quick driver mod to support your nook through USB. It works for me. First you need to have the android SDK if you don't already (sure you do but just in case ).
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Make sure you tick to install the android USB driver when the SDK is installed.
Browse to extras\google\usb_driver in your SDK folder (wherever you put it) and replace android_winusb.inf with my file:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13673492/android_winusb.inf
Next go to C:\Users\your_user_account\.android and replace adb_usb.ini with my file:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13673492/adb_usb.ini
In device manager, point google ADB driver to this and hopefully that should get you set up!
To test type
Code:
adb devices
Its working if you get something like this:
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now on port ____ *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
[YOUR NOOK] device
And then try
Code:
adb install app_of_your_choice.apk
UPDATE
Install Multitouch Kernel With Overclocking
Install the CWM zip using your clockworkmod SD card
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1906507
:good: Thanks to johnjtaylor for discovering that this kernel works works.
Hopefully this more comprehensive guide will get others with this software to start playing around.
If this helps, be polite and say thankyou
Have you setup ADB yet? If you can connect with ADB and get a shell, you can execute a 'df' at the shell prompt to see how much free space is available in each partition. On my NST (no glowlight) apps seem to be installed in /data/app so see how much free space is there. On the NST, this appears to be the same partition that books purchased from B&N are placed in, so if you have a lot of books from B&N, you may have to archive some to install apps. Of course all this is going on the assumption that the NST Glow is similar to the NST in this regard.

Thanks for replying. I'm actually working setting up ADB now. As for books I only just got my nook so all of my titles are epub format on an sd card so i wouldn't think it would be that. As soon as I get ADB set up I will post back my results incase it helps anyone else with this new software version.
Can you look in the documentation that comes with the reader for any reference to 'third party software' or 'GPL software'. They should list where to download / apply for the source code somewhere. Once we can see the source code we can compare it against the existing versions and identify any significant issues.
I set up ADB.
Plenty of space in all partitions including /data for the apps that I want. Managed to install through "adb install some_app_i_want.apk" so problem resides with the amazon app store. Not really an issue for me because I have a specific set of apps that I want and don't need to browse the app store.
I will try to work out what's wrong for others.

Thanks. I'm looking for it now
No reference to GPL. Only references to third party software are to tell me that my warranty is no longer valid (no surprise there!)
Is there any other place I can find this info thats not the documentation?

Nothing obvious from the uk.nook.com website. On the US site the 'support' section links to terms of service which contain the links to the open source code (see http://www.barnesandnoble.com/container/nook_lnav.asp?pid=43307 and search for NOOK 1.1.5 OSS Release ), but I can't see an equivalent on the UK site. It's an oversight, but such things happen with a new product launch.
You can email them at [email protected] . The relevant paragraph from the US site is:
1. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Agreement, certain components of the Software are licensed subject to the General Public License Version 2.0, a copy of which is attached as Exhibit A (the "GPL License"). You may not use these components except in compliance with the GPL License. In addition, you may have additional rights with respect to such components under the GPL License, including, without limitation, the right to obtain the source code for such components from us. You may obtain a copy of such source code by contacting us through the contact information provided on the Web Site. We will provide such source code in accordance with the GPL License.
I don't legally have the right to request the source code myself, because I don't own a UK NOOK yet. (Yeah, thinly veiled excuse for laziness!)

You're obviously not that lazy. Thanks for looking and gathering all of the extra info I need. I'll send B&N an e-mail and see what they say. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't want to hand it out considering you can use it for an easy root setup and install the amazon and kobo stores which could financially damage their advance into new territories! What are we to do! Can't even subscribe to a newspaper or magazine through the nook store yet!
I'll let you know when / if I get a response
There is a setting in nook touch tools that you need to "arm," to allow software from unknown sources to be installed before the Amazon appstore can install software on a tinynooted device.
The setting is a tickbox, "Allow non-Market apps"
Untick it if it is ticked by default, then re-tick it to get apps to install.

Untick it if it is ticked by default, then re-tick it to get apps to install.

Thanks for the reply but I actually tried that. No joy. However perhaps it is this that is not working and not amazon app store. Im just installing through ADB instead. I wonder if I can enable unknown sources through ADB. Something to look at I guess!

I tried using the tinynoot process from roustabout's thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650593 and am stuck on the final reboot with a "Your NOOK is starting up..." message. Could you let me know if you used a different tinynoot method/set of files?

Yep thats what I used. You on 1.2.0 and did you back up?
I didn't backup first and to get out of the starting message I used this:

Then I made a backup using this:

Thanks for the tip on screen freeze but the link to the images on that post don't work for me. I am on 1.2 and made a backup before attempting any rooting - have managed to reinstate my original nook so quite pleased with myself.
Is there any point in rooting until someone can find a way of getting apps onto the 1.2 NSTG?

Great that you got a backup. If you want custom apps you can either wait for a different root kit or push ahead (since you have a safety net).
As I said, it worked for me.
If you don't mind searching for the .apk files you want you can use this:
Code:
adb connect ip.address.of.nook:portnumber
adb install app_of_your_choice.apk
This has worked fine for me so far. Just don't try for custom kernels yet as they seem to give me troubles.
I will work more on this tomorrow including adjusting framework for gapps.

Thanks also for the code but as this is my first foray into rooting I think I'll hang around and watch for a bit! Perhaps if I start learning some more I may feel confident enough to try it.
Do you have copies of the files needed for the factory reset - the links are still not working for me.
Thanks again and sorry for bothering you. Hope tomorrow is productive for you.

This is the file needed to force factory reset. However a quality backup like you have is far more important.
For anyone who wants to give this a go, here is a quick guide for root access and app installs using windows tools until I can make something more complete:
Make sure you use the CWM file suitable for your SD Card. I used "2gb_clockwork-rc2" because my card was 2gb+.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1360994
(Thanks mali100)
Use WinImage with admin rights to restore CWM virtual hdd image to your SD.
Download tinynoot-1-of-2 and tinynoot-2-of-2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650593
(Thanks to eded333 and roustabout)
Put on CWM boot SD.
Install them in CWM back to back (I didn't bother with the restart in the middle as it should not make a difference considering the file content). After a restart you should have root access and an android launcher on your 1.2.0 Nook (among other files). If nook fails to boot one of the tinynoot files may have corrupted. Recover, Re-download and Retry!
Using ADB to install apps is easy. Extract this to your C drive:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13673492/ADB + Fastboot + Drivers.zip
Navigate to the folder in a cmd prompt.
Drop your APK into the same folder and on your nook open the "adbwireless" app and enable ADB
That app will tell you what your nooks IP address is.
Then you can:
Code:
adb connect ip.address.of.nook:portnumber
adb install app_of_your_choice.apk
Hopefully this more comprehensive guide will get others with this software to start playing around.
Click thanks if this guides helpful.

Great - thanks to your more detailed instructions, I have persevered and the second attempt at installing the tinynoot zips worked. Your post gave me the confidence to try installing apks for the first time and for anyone else who is unfamiliar with the processes used, I found these two pages useful for:
navigating within a command prompt (how naive): pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1723&page=3
Pasting text into a command prompt (ditto): megaleecher.net/Copy_Paste_Text_Dos_Window
Sorry, as a newb I'm not trusted to post outside links yet. It took a couple of attempts of pasting and pressing enter to work out how to install using the adb code but it's not as hard as I expected.
I have tried installing the 1 Mobile Market which works but it is unable to install apps itself (not enough space).
Also, I have just installed NoRefreshToggle and can't seem to get it to work. Any thoughts - is 1.2 to blame? Really want this to work as Business Calendar Free is just a series of blinks at the moment!
Great! I'm glad you pushed onward and have root.
I am going through possibilities of other ways to install apps and mods.
No refresh is something that I would like as well but I think that the framework may need editing for 1.2.0. For fast mode a new kernel will need to be made or existing one modified.
Be aware that installing kernels not designed for this firmware can give you some serious problems.
Once I can setup app markets, I will work on these other modifications.
Stay tuned :good:
Take a look at the overclock kernel - it's got a lot of the norefresh features baked in, and gives you a nice ability to control both clock and kernel tuning (via the governor control.)
You're right, you can flash the two zips back to back with no ill effect, I was mistaken about what the second zip was doing.
I mistyped when I typed "nook touch tools," I meant nook color tools.
I'm very interested that the amazon store is not working in 1.2. I will see if the software's available for my device, so I can try to see what's happened.
As of now, the us bn site does not mention an os 1.2 for the glowlight.

[Q] Thinkpad Tablet from China without PlayStore: Root, CWM, ROM?

Hi all,
After countless checks on forums and other threads on XDA, I've decided to post this thread as I couldn't find a similar case anywhere.
Situation is I have a TPT from China. Long story short, it was from my company, and when I moved back to Europe I got to keep it.
Anyway, the problem is that it comes with a blocked Lenovo Store, meaning I can't access any of European/US/international apps. Going to Google Play store online doesn't work ("you haven't used any device with this account") - tried from tablet or from computer.
So I thought I would root and install a custom ROM that could enable me to get to the store and personalization/optimization of the device.
I managed to root my TPT thru this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1925025
Everything went OK but then I am stuck at the next stage.
If I understand well from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846044, I need to install CWM and then install the custom ROM.
The thread about installing CWM, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831161, just doesn't work, maybe I'm doing something wrong.
If anyone can help it would be very helpful, right now my TPT is just useless...
Thanks all, any help will be very much appreciated.

Hi Da Reeseboy, thanks for answering first.
ADB drivers have already been installed on my windows machine in order to root the TPT.
Then at step 3 of the tutorial ("backup your old recovery"), I tried to input the commands into the TPT but nothing happens.
I have installed an application from the chinese lenovo store called SuShell in order to do that (I do speak some chinese). SuShell just tells me "command executed", that's it.
Actually I am not clear if I have an "old recovery" or if it's only for people already with CWM.
So I went on to step 4.
I did copy the file "recovery.img" to an SD card, stick it into the TPT and tried to proceed on the TPT via SuShell again, but when I type in the commands, SuShell tells me "command executed", but nothing happens again.
So I am a little confused if I am doing something the wrong way or typing the commands not thru the right channel or something else.
That's where any help will be very useful.
Thanks again!
Those commands are intended to be run from the computer in a command prompt with admin rights from the directory adb is in (normally the folder you extracted the root files to).

Thanks da_reeseboy, that made it!
I had a few gliches on the way but nothing major that I couldn't overcome.
I did follow the steps on the tutorials and now CM seems to be working fine on the tablet. It seems that a couple of functions on the TPT are either crashing or not working correctly, will try to look into it, but mainly I am now able to access the Play Store and said goodbye to the Chinese Lenovo Store.
Cheers again!

Let's figure out how to flash firmware.

As many of you probably know, the traditional way to flash firmware in a Huawei phone is to obtain the UPDATE.APP file, and place it in the /dload/ folder of the SD card.
With the Mate 9, this no longer works. The update fails, even if the update package is correct.
I'd like to bring everyone's brains together to figure out the new, correct way to flash an update. My guess is that it should be on the internal storage somewhere, since the Mate 9 Porsche will not have SD card slot. However, I've tried both the update.zip files and the update.app files in / and /dload/ and nothing seems to work.
If anyone can try and make a successful install, it will be a big breakthrough, so please, everyone, try!
Here are some firmware download links to try:
Chinese version
MHA-AL00C00B125 Full
http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1356/g77/v66549/f2/full/update.zip

http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1356/g77/v66711/f2/full/update.zip
The error I get when flashing makes me think it's down to the file version being used?
I can copy an update.app to the dload folder and using *#*#2846579#*#* and Software update it appears to validate the file, at least that an update.app file exists and then boots into the updater, where it fails at 5%. From memory, my Mate 8 would act the same if I tried to flash an older update.app file?
UPDATE: I can confirm that even with the same firmware version as the phone is on you cannot flash it by putting the update.app in the /dload folder, even though it does look like it finds the file. I'm wondering if we will see the same symptoms if we had a newer than B125 firmware to try.

I have found a way to load firmware. It's very tricky, but it works You need to spoof huawei's servers, so it's not something someone with low technical skills can do, unfortunately. Also, so far, loading older firmwares causes a forced reboot once the system boots up. I think it's to do with Huawei Account or Fingerprint, so hopefully I will resolve this within a few hours and report more.

I think its best to wait for the Euro C432B122 rom, it should come very soon.
I don't have a Mate 9 (yet), but looking through the code it looks as if it should be able to load the UPDATE.APP from a usb device (via an OTG cable) - /usb/dload/UPDATE.APP. Did anyone try that?

Aah well, we`ll get he update soon i guess.
Would be awesome to be able to get the european rom to work without any limitations on the chinese phone. I would love to help you guys, but my skills are very limited and hope you guys find a way that's doable for most of us
Huawei didn't pull the build. It's a DNS problem. It's only on their server in China, and isn't on their amazon co-located servers.
Set in your hosts file:
Code:
14.215.9.39 update.hicloud.com
And magically, the link works!
Can't be installed, though. With the Mate 9, I've tried HiSuite USB flashing (fails), flashing from dload folder (fails) and flashing from eRecovery (only thing that's worked.)
I've even unpacked a full rom image to try and reverse engineer how the dload folder works, but all I get is:
Code:
/sdcard/dload/au_temp.cfg
/sdcard/dload/UPDATE.APP
/sdcard/dload/update_cust.app
/sdcard/dload/update_vendor.app
/data/media/0/dload/update_cust.app
/data/media/0/dload/update_vendor.app
/data/update/dload/UPDATE.APP
/data/update/dload/update_cust.app
/data/update/dload/update_vendor.app
/usb/dload/UPDATE.APP
/usb/dload/update_cust.app
/usb/dload/update_vendor.app
And I've tried most of those locations, and while the update.app is found, it doesn't want to flash. Even though it's willing to flash the exact same stuff in update.zip format via eRecovery.
The only other way is overriding the OTAs, but it actually has a pretty strict security check at the end for approval with some nifty encrypted text, so we're screwed there too.
i would like to know the dload method still work with SD card OR not? anyone with mate 9 got SD card in slot already try this?

I wrote about it in this thread. You trick the phone into connecting to a fake query.hicloud.com and direct it to the firmware you want to download.

If you want a simple explanation, here is how eRecovery works.
1. The phone sends a request to query.hicloud.com on port 80, asking for what firmware it should download.
2. query.hicloud.com sends it information about what firmware it should download, including a URL
3. The phone sends a permission request to download the files to huawei's servers. Then, the phone downloads and parses the URL plus /full/filelist.xml and gets a list of files. If it sees files which match the region of the phone, it recognizes it as a valid update, and begins downloads the files.
4. Before the install starts, the phone contacts query.hisuite.com again to confirm that it's allowed to install. If it receives permission, the phone checks the MD5 of the files it downloaded, then unzips the three files (an update, a public, and a regional file. Three zip files) The phone then tries to install them. If there is an issue (mismatch, not signed, etc.) it spits out an error and fails. If everything passes the test, it installs.
So my method of entry is emulating query.hicloud.com and update.hicloud.com to provide the phone with whatever zip files I want.

Thanks for the explanation @duraaraa! Shall I understand that both query.hisuite.com and update.hicloud.com share the same 14.215.9.39 IP?
I have only seen the IP (14.215.9.39) for update.hicloud.com? Is there a different one for query.hicloud.com? I need to know to be able to correctly modify the /etc/hosts on my router.

Zenfone AR (Verizon) WiFi not working: INVALID_COUNTRY_CODE_DISABLE_WIFI

I purchased an Asus Zenfone AR from Verizon a month ago on New York. I used the phone as my main phone for a couple of weeks there and it worked perfectly (both cellular network and wifi worked just fine). Then a went to Latin America and the wifi stopped working. What this means is: I cannot turn the wifi ON, when I try to turn it ON, there is a toast saying "Error" and it shows back OFF.
I've went back to the States a week ago and I took the phone with me. On California the wifi started working (being able to turn it ON) again, so when I asked for help on a Verizon shop, the people there told me there was nothing they could do because the phone was working just fine.
Now I'm on Latin America again and the wifi does not turn on, I debugged the phone with Android Studio and I get this error on the console:
Code:

A quick google search did not show any results on this error code.
I did a factory reset a couple times and tried it with and without the Verizon SIM card.
Does anyone know what this error means exaclty?
I'll keep debugging it and updating the post with my results.

10-07 01:33:02.691 1201-1930/? D/WifiService: setWifiEnabled: true pid=8209, uid=10124
10-07 01:33:02.693 1201-1930/? D/WifiService: checkCountryCode: 'AR' is invalid
10-07 01:33:02.694 1201-1930/? D/WifiService: notifyInvalidCountryDisableWifi
Update 2:
I'm able to get an internet connection using Bluetooth tethering.
Update 3:
Looks like something like this would help, but would require a rooted device:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/themes/mod-wifi-country-code-fix-root-required-t3558044
Update 4:
Ok, so, from what I understand now, the local SIM I used changed the country code to AR. But I still don't see why that would disallow me to turn wifi ON. I do know that this could hide some networks from me due to the country code, but I should be able to turn it ON anyway.
A simple
Code:
adb shell setprop gsm.operator.iso-country us
should fix this issue, but root would still be needed.

Hi.
Did you solved?
Have same problem?
But I have wrong MAC address of wifi adapter... Is it hardware problem or ?
Similar issue here...
Bought a Samsung A5 2017 in US, everything was working fine until I updated via OTA to Nougat and started using an Argentinian simcard.
Country code changed and wifi does not turn on at all. I tried everything but rooting and using the method you mentioned... I'll try it as soon as i get the time to do it and post here the result.
As far as I got investigating the issue, the problem seems to be caused by the wifi driver not loading properly because of "incorrect" country code.
I get the message "Wifi driver unloaded" in logcat
I had the silly idea of doing factory reset once more (I wasn't thinking properly), and now I'm not even able to use the device, because I need internet connection in order to log-in with a google account, and the bluetooth trick does not work on this step.
I'm basically bricked until I get back to the States.
anybody tried to install bootloader unlock app from ASUS site?
I did, but can not install, it says: "app not installed the package conflicts with an existing package by the same name"
same exactly problem, any solve this?
Hi.
Is there a solution to the problem with Wi-Fi idle from ASUS ZenFone AR V570KL (A002A) (Verizon)?

I wasn't able to make it work either.
Funny thing is, I bought this phone because I wanted to develop stuff for Google Tango, but now that google killed that project, I don't have any other reason for using it any more.
Unless someone comes out with a fix or some way of rooting it, I'll sell it as a used phone on the States and at least get part of my money back.

Code:
10-07 01:02:18.998 1201-2738/? E/ActivityManager: Sending non-protected broadcast android.net.wifi.INVALID_COUNTRY_CODE_DISABLE_WIFI from system 1201:system/1000 pkg android

at android.net.wifi.IWifiManager$Stub.onTransact(IWifiManager.java:317)
at android.os.Binder.execTransact(Binder.java:565)
A quick google search did not show any results on this error code.
I did a factory reset a couple times and tried it with and without the Verizon SIM card.
Does anyone know what this error means exaclty?
I'll keep debugging it and updating the post with my results.

I have the same problem and have solved it by downloading CSC_V520KL_T3.3.15_all_eng.zip rom
But the rom is very primitive and impractical and there is no package Asus and google in it
What is important is that it can be used Wi-Fi files from it to Verizon rom
just we need root to fix it
Please, share flasher and software
If you have.ô

only flashing "Asus CSC Imag" = WW_V570KL_T3.0.6_all_eng
With that, WiFi will work and my software will work normally?
could you say the right steps please
I flashed by Software Upgrade Assistant (ASUS) from verizon wireless
When you connect your phone to the USB cable with pc and choose the repair option from the phone, the program will automatically run in Windows
When you make a repair option from pc , the program will download the latest version of the ROM into a new folder at drive D & compressed file. The program will automatically unzip and install. the zip rom in your phone
I flash CSC rom by
replacing CSC rom with original rom file. at D drive and change its name with the same name as the "xxxxxxx.raw" , do not delete or change name of the original compressed file . Only change the raw file and change name as the original name rom. after make repair option from pc again you will flash CSC rom
In any case you need the fownload original ROM if you want to return to original
If you change the size or the name of the compressed file in the folder created by the program, it will delete everything and download the ROM again,so copy zip rom before the change it
sorry for my language
