Verizon, Twitter and a locked bootloader. - Google Pixel 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I think this is the correct section ive been a decade almost lurker, but so I post a screen shot of the oem unlock switch greyed out for a buddy that's ex Google and knows way too much about how these phones work. Os and telephony sides. About 3 minutes later I get a reply from Verizon CS saying all Verizon phones come unlocked and asking me what I want to do with it. So I replied , I want to unlock this 700$ phone because I refuse to be a guest on my own device. No reply yet but isn't that weird how fast that reply was. I'll post any responses and if I'm in the wrong forum please move it mods.

OK so now I'm really feeling some I'll will about the reply I got , its not what I wanted to hear. There reply was 'we are sorry we are unable to provide you with any assistance at this time. Good luck with unlocking the bootloader.'
Thanks Verizon_CS
This is after telling me all 4gLTE phones come unlocked , well apparently I'm a idiot or Verizon just outright lied to me. Think I should press the issue with verizon more ? If it hassles them that's good enough for me , even if I get nowhere with them. Im a bit passive aggressive sometimes in life lol

Unlock and bootloader are 2 different things. Unlocks allows you to take the phone to a different carrier is what I think were referring to. Locked boot loader is something I doubt VZW will ever do out of the box or will allow.

Verizon phones are carrier unlocked, for now. They plan to start locking them again in the future. Verizion is the only carrier who prevents bootloader unlocking. What build number are you on?

I thought verizon was legally not allowed to carrier lock their phones because of a 4g band they bought

Do you actually have this device??!?!
To the OP just put in a sim card other than one that its locked to, turn it on and it'll ask you for your unlock code.

Dude... dont blame me man, I just googled for someone who can't be arsed.
Anyway, when people asks about unlocking they usually refer to 'network unlock', perhaps if the OP wants to know about unlocking his/her locked sim from the handset, he/she should of made it a little more clearly, right?
i did it on my x10a so im not sure if its the same for x10i
insert a sim card from another network
a screen will show up asking you to punch in a code
keep tapping on the blank space where you are suppose to enter the code until a keypad comes up
enter in your unlock code

well if you read it properly you would discover that he did indeed ask how to remove the network lock using a code he bought and also that the instructions you gave were about as much use as tits on a bull because they are clearly not for the x10 (how for example are you supposed to press the joystick left when there isnt one?)

Next time, I won't even try next time, correct or not.
Considering the abuse I'm getting, it ain't worth it.
OK. The help I tried posting turned out to be incorrect. Happy?
Would it of been too hard for who-ever notices the blunder and corrected me? I thought this is a "developer's forum" maybe I'll return to HoFo... seems much friendlier there, even with all the noobs.
I'm wondering, did anyone ever consider the possibility here? Cause prior to posting, I read the instructions and the little box under it then thought that's a possibility; considering there are up and down keys (volume). I can't test it, since my cell arrive stock without network locks or branding.

Turn off phone, take out att sim and insert other carrier sim.. Power on and input unlock code.. It should work. I'm visiting Hong Kong and I couldn't get it to work at first but after chatting with att, they told me to do this.. Don't remove battery. Power off and switch sims

Cellunlocker.net has a system to reset sim code deactivation, but from what I have seen it isn't working for people that lost ability to unlock because of the "free unlock" method. You could still contact them and ask about it. It does cost a little extra.

There are three things wrong with your inferior attempt at an insult:
1. WTF is there to read? This thread just started its second page, so telling me that I am not reading first is stupid on your part.
2. I have zero issues with this method. I cannot speak for anyone else who doesn't know what they are doing.
3. I am pretty sure you have never seen a cow fly, or a pig file taxes, or in your case how people like yourself end up when treating the wrong person with disrespect.
Try being considerate when posting. If it doesn't have anything to do with fixing the OP's issue, don't post ridiculous crap. If you were trying to hurt my feelings, you didn't.
I have had an active account with xda for a while now, but its people like you who are immature and rude that keep me from posting.
I'm going to get back to my life now, so don't bother posting a reply because I won't waste my time reading it. If there were so many problems with my suggestion, try being more tactful in what you say.

Well said good sir! I've used the free method for a few of my friends phones and on my s3 and now s4 with zero issues. With how many videos and guides there are on how to do this it SHOULD be idiotproof, you should only get issues when you don't pay attention.
soluction
sometime s4 does not accept code directly ...i had same problem and unlocked it from local shop using flashing device z3x
so goto local mobile shop or get your own device and ucart c3300k cable :good::good::good::good:

[Q] How to disable downloaded update?

Hi all!
Is there any way to disable update notification message on Verizon GS5? Update is already downloaded.
I'm rooted and with some apps frozen. If I run update it fails.
So, actually more than one question...
I assume I can unfreeze everything and attempt to update. Is it going to break root? Is this going to be rootable after that update?
It is probably answered multiple times, but I cannot find definite, direct answer. So help will be appreciated!
You neglected to tell us how or what you searched for. It's almost impossible to miss all of the existing threads on the subject, don't know how you missed them but we don't know how, what or if you tried searching.

Chances are you won't be able to run it anyway, as you're rooted, just either remove it in titanium, or freeze it, or rename the update apk by putting a .bak on the end of the file name and the odex file too.

They would indeed be able to run it but since the update fails because VZW is able to determine if your rooted the update will fail every single time. I wouldn't worry too much about the update as VZW is finding ways to patch the exploits ie towelroot and the S3 with the upcoming patch will be unable to be rooted.
Sadly there are a lot of members who remind members to constantly search, a good majority of them don't even bother so that might be why he refers to it every single time

Everytime I reply to a thread, you follow with an opinion that is clearly in factual error. Your dedication to increasing your post count is impressive even though it contributes nothing constructive. You were accurate when you characterized yourself as annoying but that is a blight easily solved with a kill filter.
Of course he can run it, as the poster after you correctly observed. Root is sufficient to block the two main processes, the update app and the notification app. One just needs to note Verizon's habit of appending vzw to otherwise standard nomenclature.
Verizon can independently search for evidence of root leading to further notifications. And there is no assured way to block that eventuality.

So when i rooted my phone, my phone failed to even check for updates! All i'm saying about you is the fact that you tell every single person to search, although I get it, you are wasting your time, lastly you really can't call anybody annoying m8, I didn't characterize myself as annoying, what you do every single day is ridicule people for not using the search button you aren't even addressing me and i'm even tired of it.
This is Q+A, it's made for people to ask questions.
And about my post count, I think your math is off, I've been on XDA since 2010 (2007 actually different account) i'm on 3,658 posts, You've been on here for 1 year you have a third of my posts, so theoretically speaking and at the rate you sprout your posts, you will have surpassed my post count in less time than I did, for someone who attempts to sound smart you've had quite an oversight there.

Hopefully not, rooting and having a tinker is what makes android great, I dread to think how I would feel if I was forced into the world of Apple, think I might end up with windows mobile yea I don't want to think like that, long live rooting I say.
I've heard bad things about Verizon doing things to their phones, do you not have a third party retailer in the states? I know that in the UK most people, especially people who want to modify their handsets, will buy from Carphone warehouse or even phones 4 u. You basically end up with the international unlocked version of the handset, as it was intended. I made the mistake of getting my Z1 from EE, turned out that the bootloader couldn't be unlocked no matter what I did, so I bricked it and sent it off for repair through Carphone, got a fully unlocked brand new handset back in five days.

True And I have no idea And you're welcome, I wasn't 100% on the Verizon thing, I only knew what I'd tried myself, I was rooted and updates didn't work for me, maybe a mistake to assume it'd be the same for you, perhaps if it's going to be a huge difference there should be different sections ?
I dunno?

How do i sim card unlock my phone for free?

ANSWER or DIE
No free unlock. A Google search would of got you your answer. NOW YOU DIE!!! for not searching first
1. find your favorite unlocking site
2. track down who owns it
3. kidnap his dog and wife
4. ask for unlocking code as ransom
5. profit

He's being sarcastic chaps @iDontbreak if I were you I would search first, then ask nicely and see what happens. Even asking nicely on can make some people go a bit wonky. As for the unlock, I really don't know, there was one available for the s3, not sure about the s4, but there are a tonne of sites out there, lots of fake ones too, why not just go back to your provider and ask them to unlock it?

bootloader unlock verizon pixel

I just had my Verizon pixel RMA through Google with a refurbished phone. Skipped through the setup without sim card or wifi and the OEM unlock was greyed out. Figured I'd give up and just roll stock. Inserted my sim and set up. Just checked again for ****s and giggles and I can toggle the setting to unlock the bootloader. On 7.1.2.
So? Quick, turn off automatic updates then go and actually unlock the bootloader.

Verizon Bootloader Unlocked
Just got my Verizon Bootloader unlocked. Guy named Smail Amzdak did it. Got in contact with him on Facebook. He gave me instructions and address to pay $30 via Paypal and he did it all remotely. Took less than 5 minutes. The guy is honest and did a great job. Glad to have an Unlocked Bootloader again. :good::good:

So are you promoting his pay for services model?

I am supporting someone who can unlock a bootloader on a Verizon Pixel phone. He has figured out something that no one else has done. I don't mind paying someone for a service if it benefits you. Do you?

Yes, I mind....especially when you promote it by violating the XDA rules

I'm not trying to start any trouble. That is not what I came here for. I just wanted to let people know about this. I had to send in a Pixel phone back to Verizon that I had unlocked. I got back a phone that was bootloader locked and I thought I was done. I found this guy, from a post in this forum, and contacted him. I was skeptical at first, but I also wanted my bootloader unlocked so I took the risk. He did exactly as he said and now I'm happy. That is all. Sorry if that is against the rules.

I don't see him selling anything. Go look at the accessories part of the forums. Thousands of recommendations in there, just like this situation. It is not selling or trading, he is just saying it works and he thinks it will benefit other people. Leave it to the moderators to determine if posts follow the rules, they are looking I promise.

Well, not directly for the poster selling anything. But the guy he's speaking of has been banned already. I'm not try to moderate, but certainly don't want this fantastic forum to turn into a place for "pay for service" advertisement. Whether it's done directly or indirectly. My intent here to do my part of maintaining an informational pass of ideas. Sorry to anyone if I come across anything different. This forum here has been a place of solitude, information, and passing theories back and forth. Have a great weekend everyone!
Can someone clarify something for me? Does dePixel currently work on the Verizon Pixel xl with the April security patch? I've tried a few times to unlock my bootloader with no success but I've heard sometimes it works after a few tries. Am I wasting my time?

No. dePixel has not worked for over a year due to the exploit being patched in Android 7.1.1.

Thanks for replying!
If I'm reading things correctly, the only way to unlock it is to pay some shady person on FB? Lol So I'm stuck, I guess.

I don't think he is shady given the feedback that has shown up here from longtime XDA users. I got mine when dePixel was still working, but I would be comfortable with the method he is using. I just personally disagree with XDA becoming his personal advertisement space (even since he was banned for violation of XDA rules regarding using it for a for profit service).

If he is banned on here, he should tell us how to do it on Google+ or Telegram.

And how long after will Verizon/Google patch his method so it won't work anymore?

Yeah, I voiced my concerns about this in the XL forums and basically got laughed at by some people. Just think turning rooting into a pay-to-play model and using the forums to advertise (he's not advertising, but plenty of people are for him) could be a slippery slop that could spell trouble.
But it sounds like the guy isn't shady. Just out to make money on the desperation of others.

^^^ This. We don't need a new thread every time someone finds a way to unlock their bootloader.
