OTA vs flushing - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

I bought a new MI A1 which came with the august patch. I expected it to update but no OTA upgrades were found. I used mi.com/verify/#imei_en and saw that I have a mi 5x imei with a global rom.
what is the difference between 5x with global rom and a "pure" A1?
what are the differences between an A1 that got OTA oreo vs if I flush to the latest global rom myself?
the company says there is no such thing as a global rom mi 5x. they are saying mi 5x with global rom is A1. is this true? if so why am I not getting any update?
I am a bit frustrated so thank you for the help

From what i can undersand you have an mI 5x and not the mi a1. The seeller sold you an mi 5x with the mi a1 rom on it, so no updates. for you. Sorry. I believe that you were tricked.

If I flush the rome to oreo will I get the same phone as an updated a1 but without ota?
The phone was cheaper so if everything is completely the same but without ota i will not fight the seller to return the phone and get my money back

Try getting refund!

I'm sorry but you can't "flush" your phone. You can do that to a toilet tho.
Also, from where did you bought the phone? You just bought a Mi5x with a MiA1 rom. Don't buy stuff from unreliable sources even if it's cheap.

There are many online sellers that sell mi 5x with mi a1 rom( sometimes referred to as fake ROM). Unfortunately, you can't install OTA by forcing it, or cannot use any fastboot ROM of Mi A1. If you do, your phone will definitely get hard bricked. You can head to the Mi 5x forum on XDA to find out more.

Hi All
Just discovered that the latest MIUI Global Beta ROM 6.11.17 has the Mi 5s in the list of supported devices, which wasn't the case with the previous beta.

Please note, they also wrote this:
Note:
1. Updates for Mi 5 / Mi 5s suspended.
2. Updates for Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm / Redmi Note 3 Special Edition suspended due to fingerprint issues.

There is currently no file available to download, probably because of this Note mentioned before. Let's hope they will release it in the next few days That would be great!
pato
Little update, the chinese beta rom mentions the reason why it's supended:
1. Update for Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX suspended this week due to the testing of Qualcomm codes optimizations.

So never then.
You never know, but adding the Mi 5s into the global beta rom is a very good sign of it being supported in the near future
I think they just did an error: mi5s should be read as mi5s plus.
Nope, just posted by a forum admin:
hi sir/madam
@EladBr @CL0SeY
please stay tuned in the forum for more update and latest announcement.
after verifying with handsome admin @PatrickXi there is no typo, and global beta/stable ROM for Mi 5s will be launch SOON!

Are you sure it isn't fake rom from seller?
Sent from my MI 5s using XDA Premium HD app
So far no, but I asked seller to leave original ROM installed and he confirmed that.
Also there are several other users with this version in the en.miui.com forum. A mod there asked for pictures, but hasn't replied since with uploaded them.
At least in fastboot mode it looks like it's unmodified. Anyway, going to install global ROM once the official version has been released (maybe tomorrow, maybe in 3 weeks).
Suspended for the second week........
Do you guys think mi5s plus will also be included on this particular update? Or just the mi5s?
It should also be for Mi 5s. We should see tomorrow.

For the 3rd week now, update from today does not include it.
Sadly no, I fear they wait until the Nougat update for the Mi 5 is out :/

Turn A1 into Mi 5X or not?

I am about to receive my Mi A1. In general, I do prefer MIUI over plain stock Android (...yes, I know that is not that common ). So naturally, I am thinking about to directly flash the A1 into a Mi 5X.
What are your opinions? Anybody here who has done it? Bugs afterwards? OTA?
Not going to work... You could brick the device..
I hear somethink about differences in partitions so better just don't do that because you can REALLY brick your phone.
Mi A1 has A/B partition which allows seamless updates whereas Mi 5X has the normal single partition. I suggest you to wait for about a month. Xiaomi will release the kernel sources (hopefully) this month and developers will make a MIUI ROM. If you tried to flash the Mi 5X ROM, you will end up bricking your phone.

What happened to XDA and moderating team?
Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk
If you wanted MIUI, you should've gotten yourself a Mi 5X. What's this nonsense thing, flash A1 into Mi 5x? It won't work. Be prepared for trouble if you try to do so.
Wait for kernel sources to be available, development to swing in. There will be a number of custom ROMs including MIUI.

Please, before asking anything read and search, there are many many many threads about A1 vs 5X. If you want Miui just because of Miui and no other reason than I can't get it why you bought A1, 5X is in general cheaper then A1.
Can't wait for Xiaomi to release kernel sources and someone ports Miui so this can stop.

ETA of Android Version 8.1 for Mi A1

Is Xaiomi ever going to release version 8.1 for Mi A1 or we will just be getting security updates without any android system upgrade ?!
8.1 is way more stable than 8.0 and it has got a bunch of cool features like changing of System notification shade according to the applied wallpaper and what not..!
Nokia,Sony,Motorola are skipping 8.0 and directly going for version 8.1 for their devices for the same reason.
Is Xaiomi headed in the same direction too.?!
asking too much lol

Sure we are getting it. But when is the unknown part. Try asking Xiaomi And social media like Facebook or something. But I guess it won't be long. Let's say in 2 to 3 months we'll see it. Only Xiaomi knows that answer for sure

But why bro ...
it's a same hardware just OS apart them both,
same internals, same chipset , then how they differ just from UI .. ?
If you think it would work, then we would have the miui rom from mi5x to mi a1 for a long time ago.
But it's not what you think, as above says it's not identical same device, so we can't do that unless someone would like to port it.
You can try it, but make sure you have another spare phone to use because it would brick your phone.

It's pointless to explain all these to these kids. They will never understand/agree. let them learn from their mistakes.

Revert Redmi K20 back to MI 9T with conversion patch?

I've used a patch to install one of the early TWRP ports which turned my MI 9T into a Redmi K20 (boot-logo and model name). Now that an official version is out I was wondering how I can revert the changes. Anyone know of any patch or changes I can do myself, so my MI 9T actually shows as a MI 9T again?
Thank you.

Mine ever since i unlocked the bootloader is start showing as K20.
I think that once it's unlock there is no mi9t logos as Xiaomi didn't made them

Wow, interesting. Of course this helped them to achieve this eye-catching price point.
So the model name is still the same?
My mi9t is still a mi9t after unlock and twrp. So xiaomi ofcourse did make the logos and eveything for mi9t and k20.
Eh, you can just flash the logo.img from the Mi 9T stock ROM. Model number depends on the ROM you're using,

Yes, you can use the patch again, or install a stock ROM to get the boot logo.
