Switching carriers with bootloader v2 not possible? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

So I'm trying to change the carrier on my galaxy s8 SM-G950U, which is an unlocked AT&T S8, but I keep running into "sw rev check fail" when flashing the files. I read that it could be my bootloader version causing the problem? I looked at my baseband version and it says G950USQS2BQL1, which I guess means my bootloader is version 2. So I was wondering, is it not possible to change carriers with a v2 bootloader? Sorry I'm kind of new to this so don't really know if this is a dumb question.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: nevermind, guess I'm just dumb. I quickly found this thread after posting this question, which gives you the Bootloader v2 files https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/snap-guide-flashing-standard-fw-carrier-t3625817
The other guide I was using didn't mention bootloader v2 at all, so I guess it was slightly outdated.

Or just read what youre flashing. Don't flash old firmware. It's been v2 for a few updates so you were trying to flash old firmware. Use fw.updato.com and search for G950U (Carrier files) or G950U1 (US Unlocked version). Sort by date so the newest ones are on top and stop flashing old ****.

[Q] Unlocked Metro PCs Galaxy S5 on AT&T Network

Hey guys,
Quick overview: 2 Questions: How to update to lollipop and benefits of KNOX.
I just got a new Metro PCs Galaxy S5 unlocked and am using it on the AT&T network as the title suggests. I was looking around to try and find an answer but was unsuccessful. My question is how do I update this phone since it's a Metro PCs phone (which is apparently same as T-Mobile) to lollipop and i'm on AT&T? Since I'm on the AT&T network, there is no update for lollipop yet, but from what I've read the phone itself should be compatible and ready for the T-Mobile lollipop update...AT&T is the only carrier that hasn't released lollipop update AFAIK. Here's the current information on the device:
Model: SM-G900T1
Android: 4.4.2
Baseband: G900T1UVU1ANK1
Kernel: 3.4.0-1616453
Build: KOT49H.G900T1UVU1ANK1
If I try to do the OTA Software update from the "About Device" settings screen, it says up to date. Is my only option to root it and do a custom ROM (or wait for AT&T to come out with the lollipop update...which may not be very soon)? Though if i root it I'll trigger the KNOX stuff i've been reading about. I don't think the KNOX stuff has anything useful to me from what I read, because it seems to be for business stuff only, whereas i'd only be using this phone for personal use. Which brings me to my second question: Is there any reason for me to care about keeping KNOX 0x0? Seems like it will void any software warranty if i trigger it and I'd lose any OTA updates? That's the only fall back? Because if it isn't a big issue then I can just root and custom rom my phone (recommendations on ROMs? looking for mostly performance and battery life). Lemme know if you have other questions for me or if i need to provide more info. Thanks for any help!
Im only seeing KitKat ROMs on Sammobile and Samsung Updates, for the SM-G900T1, and they generally have all ROMs available for each device
Looks like a Custom ROM might be your only way if there is no official Lollipop update for you, but Custom ROM = Custom Recovery = KNOX tripped

Yah, I was really confused by this as well. I checked Sammobile and they didn't even have the T-Mobile version which seems odd to me?

Can you send me a link to where you see those updates? I couldn't find it myself for my model (SM-G900T1).
Also, would i be able to update my phone with the latest T-Mobile Variant? I was thinking that since (from what i've been reading) it sounds like the T-Mobile phone and the Metro PCS phones are supposedly the exact same phone (T-Mobile = SM-G900T, Metro PCS = SM-G900T1) and my phone is unlocked, that perhaps I can update my phone to the latest Samsung signed T-Mobile update with lollipop and not trip Knox. Any ideas / thoughts on this?

You should be able to flash any ROM for your exact model phone
Links to sammobile are banned on XDA, just go to sammobile dot com - enter your model number into the firmware section
Need a free account to download
KNOX will not be tripped flashing stock ROMs with ODIN

thx, i was dumb and kept searching with "samsung galaxy" instead of the exact model number so couldn't find it there at first :silly:
I get that i can flash any ROM for my exact model, but was hoping to find out if i can install the SM-G900T (T-Mobile) update on the SM-G900T1 (Metro PCS)? From what I'm reading they appear to be the exact same phone, but i haven't seen any hard evidence of that fact...like i've read in other threads and other sites that people have put t-mobile roms/etc on a metro-pcs galaxy s5, and that essentially they're the exact same phone, but just nothing i've seen/read that makes it definitively so...unless that in and of itself proves their statement that they installed the TM roms on the MPCS phone. I'm cautious cause i keep reading about being careful because of all the different variants and the possibility of bricking. i guess in the meantime i'll look around more then to see if i can install the t-mobile one on my metropcs.
Ive no idea, I wouldn't want to advise flashing a ROM for a different model phone - best wait to hear if anyone else has the same phone and done the same thing
Someone here saying they are exactly the same phone

yah, i've seen that thread and it's what i meant by "i've heard things", but not really "confirmed things" hahaha
I searched a bit more and found this thread, and it looks like might be possible because someone did it on an older firmware from TM -> MPCS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2733529
I may look a little more, but i think i'll try it and see what happens. when/if i do, i'll post back with results.
...although, would that nullify my unlock? Phone is like I said, MPCS and unlocked, running on AT&T. Switching to the T-Mobile firmware shouldn't have any affect on the unlock right?

No it won't make any changes to your SIM/carrier unlock status. Once you permanently SIM unlock your phone, that is it.

Rooting SM-G935W

Good Morning, is it possible to root a S7 Edge SM-G935W? All I see are references to G935F. Should I try to flash my ROM to the international model, and would that work and not brick my phone?
I am trying to root my phone as the battery is draining really fast and want to switch to a debloater ROM. I would appreciate any help/guidance in this process.
Thanks,
Vicente
I was wondering the same thing. I've found this link but I'm not sure if want to try it. Check it out.
http://www.androidinfotech.com/2017/05/root-samsung-galaxy-s8-plus-canada-sm-g955w-nougat.html
If you are talking about the Canadian version g935W8.
there is 2 methods using supersu from chainfire or magisk latest version which has the root as part of the installation process.
Both these versions require TWRP.
Yes I have the Canadian version, it uses the Snapdragon so I wasn't sure but this is great news ! How come the US varients don't allow?
But I guess I have to know first if the bootloader is unlocked... Does anyone else using Bell know if the bootloader is unlocked?
Oh my god I'm a dork I got the model wrong. I've got the s8+ SM-G955W.

S7 Edge G935P issues Flashing Supposedly compatible G935U Rom

Hello Everyone I understand that this would have been better posted at the Roms and development Forum but it would not let me post because of some anti-spam thing. Anyways I was told that I could Cross flash the g935U rom on any variant of the S7 edge so I tried to install it the same way I installed the Stock Sprint G935P firmware. When I was flashing the flash stopped and locked up. The phone has a error on the screen saying SW REV CHECK FAIL : [aboot]Fused 5 > Binary 2. Any help would be appreciated. Attached is a picture of the screen and the Odin Logs.

Ran into the same problem. It seems Sprint decided to switch to binary 5 on the QL1 firmware while the rest of the carriers didn't and stayed on 4. I have been looking all over for a way to root my SM-G935P on QL1 firmware and have found nothing. Looks like we're SOL for now thanks to Sprint.
So We Need To Wait For The Android Oreo Update or just wait for G930U To Update The Firmware

You rooted SM-G935P on G935PVPU5BQL1 firmware? If so ...... Yes please show me the way. Been trying to figure it out for quite sometime.
can you downgrade to the previous versions of marshmallow and them rom over to 935u?
you will have to find the previous boot loader file and flash all 4 together for it to work.
just a guess. ill do some research.

Was going to do the same thing after getting a good deal on a pre-owned s7edge from BoostMobile. I had no problem getting the sim unlocked for MintSim(MVNO-Tmobile), and it seemingly works fine after setting APN settings. I'd prefer to not have the g935p firmware. I'm assuming if I can somehow switch to g935u I'll be able to use it more comfortably for both verizon pre pay and MintSim? If there is a way to downgrade to the binary 4, I'd like to know as well. As far as I know I'm still able to use Samsung Pay, so I'd like to keep that option open.
Only thing we can hope for as of right now is that the oreo update is binary 5 on the U firmware. But I dont see that happening. Think thats a new exclusive for sprint to keep people tied down. Hopefully im wrong....
On a more positive note, the bootloader binary has been updated across carriers with every major os upgrade.

I think the same. Sellers were selling S7 and S7 Edge models with U firmware for international use, no sprint apps, logo or restrictions and maybe sprint was losing customers and they decided to update the binary to avoid this situation. Really I prefer the U firmware instead Sprint or Verizon stock rom

On the Oreo update? I havent even checked.
Hasn't been released yet, but it has happened from MM to Nougat. Just speculating that it will happen when Oreo drops.

Flashing G930V to G930U or G930T on Mint (Tmobile MVNO)

Hey. I apologize in advance if this has been asked a million times before but I can't seem to find anything up to date (2019) or noob friendly enough. I also need help figuring out if flashing will help me at all.
I have a G930V and I've been using Mintsim/Mintmobile, a T-Mobile MVNO, for the past six months or so and they have WiFi calling available, but doesn't seem to show in my menu. I'm trying to see if going from G930V to G930T (Tmobile right?) will help fix this and my intermittent signal issues. Anyone experienced this or tried this?
I also am completely new to this entirely. I think I understand that I need Odin downloaded along with a firmware, but I don't quite understand which I need for my phone. I see guides and previous threads about older stuff from 2017 on an older version of android (Nougat?) and I don't believe its a great idea to flash older firmware, especially seeing as I'm on the newer version of android (Oreo I think?)
I appreciate the help.
You can follow the old guides. There haven't been any changes, so just get Odin and the latest firmware from updato.com I would use Tmobile since you're on Mint.

What is the difference between G930U (XAA) and G930U (TMK) ? There's a lot with different acronyms at the end. Does it matter?
Sorry for the barrage of questions but I am 100% new to this and just want to make sure I don't brick my phone with the wrong firmware.

It doesn't matter. They're all the same. Updato.com just shows them like that for some reason, but XAA is normally the one you want.

[HELP] G950U confusion

I recently bought a used S8 from a friend, it's all great and I am liking it so far but I wanted to root it and install a custom rom on it, or flash the stock One UI rom at least.
So I was looking around and see which carrier phone it is, since I am not in US so it didn't matter to me
I went into Download Mode and the carrier there says TMB but if I search the baseband version (G950USQS5CRF5) on the google, it says its Verizon, so I am confused that which carrier version is my phone exactly.
and can I just flash the stock One UI rom (for TMobile) ignoring the version that I have.
Sorry if I posted in the wrong section.

No put your tmobile sim in and it should auto select its own csc which is for carrier selection and reboot. If not download the latest firmware from sammobile and select the tmobile one and flash.
These devices are awesome at selecting on their own. My wife's rebooted and installed verizons csc all on it's own
Should be a screen says new sim inserted please restart to use
