I think I found the possible cause of draining the battery in Oreo Final Build - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Since I upgraded to the final build of Android Oreo, my phone began to suffer an excessive consumption of battery with respect to nougat. Reading a bit about Android 8.0 I found that the option to "use mobile data while connected to WIFI" is turned on by default. Turning it off I have again + 6 hours of SOT.
I'm not sure if it's the real cause, but at least in my case it worked. regards!:good:

Ok. Where is that option? Is it in develeper options?

Bugs in 10.4.B.0.569 update

Even though we have finally received the 4.3 update from SONY,
it seems like shipped with some noticeable bugs.
It's better if we can mention the bugs we have encountered after the 4.3 update
1. ) SONY Select
As many people have reported this service is not working in either mobile broadband or wifi connections.
Only a error text is shown as "No network connection. Please try again later"
2.) NFC icon
It suddenly get disapeared while it's already activated by quick settings.
3.) Airplane mode
When the Airplane mode is turned on by power button menu, it cannot be turned off using the same menu since it's disabled.
I had to go to the settings menu and turn it off from there.
4.) Network mode switching
3G networking and LTE network mode switching does not happening correctly in automatically (sometimes).
work arround found :
Had to go to the network settings and disable the mobile data
turn on the airplane mode on and again turn it off
enable the mobile data again then it will correctly jump to LTE network type
5.) Battery bug
Battery suddenly dropped from about 40 % to 8% (without any downloaded applications.)
6.) Overheating
Phone is incredibly overheating while using the HSPA+ or LTE data connection.
with 4.2.2 i didn't had this much of overheating issue.
Please share your findings also :highfive:

1 - No, it is working fine since 2 days ago.
2 - No, this is a customization thing, if you flashed a firmware from a different region it may have been disabled. It is normal, you can re-enable it editing build.prop.
3 - No, it works fine on mine.
4 - No, i don't have this problem.
5 - It happened to me in the first two hours of installing the new firmware, but from 13% to 0% reducing itself in 1% increments every 2 seconds (and it turned itself off), it may be some kind of battery recalibration after installation, it hasn't happened again since then.
6 - I don't feel like it is overheating more than before.
I thing you should do a factory reset. I did it after 4.3 update and the only bugs i have found are:
1 - Progress bar overlaping text while installing applications
2 - Standalone wifi hotspot toggle widget not working (the one in the configurable toggles in notification area works fine)
3 - Bluetooth A2DP music streaming skips a lot in my BMW Car Infotainment system while not charging the phone. It could be some kind of energy saving feature on the bluetooth that it is screwing things up. It worked 10 times better when i was in Android 4.2.2
cheers.

Does video stabilization option works for any one.

Camera Bug
Tho only bug I noticed is in Camera Addon AR Effects. The Pictures a very dark and there´s no chance to activate LED Flash....
my phone's screen timeout resets back to 15 seconds every once in a while, and wakelock bugs also present
Sometimes SMS received without Notification
I have issues with access to OpenXChange Servers. No new mail can be received.
Just a wakelock bug for me, Suspend_backoff (Android OS) eating battery, it drains like ~5% hourly.

So you reinstalled 4.3 and it didnt fix the problem? Some users said they reinstalled 4.3 (which means complete data loss and having to set my phone from the beginning ) and the problem remains. I dont want to go through a clean istall for nothing.

Xperia Z2 Ultimate Battery Saving Guide!

Okay, so I've noticed a lot of people that are only getting around 4-5hours battery life, which is actually pretty good but they crave more, esspecially when people like myself are getting over 7 hours screen on time
So heres a guide that I have made for you guys!
Who needs a bright display, Not you that's who!
Screen
So first things first is the screen, its what will take up more battery life then any other component of the phone, so, Turn that baby right down, I use Auto brightness which can be found in the quick settings in the pull down bar Or Settings > Display > Brightness > Auto
Try having a screen time out which is around 10 seconds or less will also help, the less time the screen is on, the more power you will save!
X-Reality
X-Reality Engine is a great tool that Sony put into most of their flagship devices, it basically adds contracts to photos and videos, It works well and looks good, BUT if you arent using it turn it off, you will notice a difference. To do this Go to settings > Display > X-Reality and untick it
Double Tap To Wake
I use this great feature all the time ( Although it can be unresponsive sometimes ) I believe the screen will keep active while its off, to obviously wait for your double finger tap, if you dont use this, disable it by going into Settings > Display and unticking it
Notifications, What Notifications?
Syncing is a BIG part of android and its ecosystem, its what makes a smartphone a smartphone, Disbale syncing by either pulling down the settings menu and disabling it or go to settings > Scroll down > Auto sync off, You will stop getting notifications but battery life will be far better, trust me
Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC, Data & GPS What are these things?
Wifi, Bluetooth and NFC, GPS all have their uses, and so does 3G and 4G obviously, who could live without those right?
Unfortunately they drain the battery, A lot of it !
Wifi uses the least amount of battery, for internet connectivity especially if you put it on Wifi Optimization, to do this Go to settings > Wifi > Advanced > and tick it
Also. Keep WiFi on during sleep should be ticked off if you haven't got sync on
GPS is on as standard on any new android phone, untick and watch your battery increase! Go to settings > location > and Untick
3G and 4G are great, But take up the second most amount of battery, If you have a 4G plan I suggest you finding out if you have good coverage because the phone is constantly scanning, If you have bad 4G coverage, put 3G on instead, itll save battery and you may even get better speeds! To do this pull down your notifications bar and hit Mobile data which will activate 3G or 4G to activate 4G
Although NFC Can be useful and doesnt drain to much battery, it does a little by leaving it on, Disable it by going to the settings > More > Untick NFC
Sony Even Include Battery Saving Settings? WHAT
Thats right, Sony Include settings to help you save even more juice
Stamina Mode
Stamina mode is great, dont ask me how but it just works. Go to settings > Power Management > Tick Stamina Mode and watch yourself get more battery life!
Also, I dont think people know this but if you actually click Stamina mode it comes up with an option to restrict performance in favour for battery life, If you dont mind it being a little slow here and there I suggest clicking it, thats how I got OVER 7 HOURS SCREEN ON TIME
I Believe thats it, Thanks for reading this guide, I really hope It helps
- J
Great guide! Thanks jack.
With settings really close to yours I'm up to 7.5 hours of screen time, and I still have 15% of battery left. And I only turned on stamina mode when I was down to 50%, so I'm sure I could get more!
(The "restricted performance" setting scared me at first but I really haven't noticed any difference to be honest)
No problem, I think everyone should take a look at this, and not just for the this phone but for most phones

Why no a Nokia 3110 and have a one week battery?
SOT? Doesn't matter, there is nothing to watch on it!!!
Seriously. Thanks for the guide.
To be honest on a 700 € piece of technology we shouldn't take care of him so much just to use it!
But if you want or need 7.5 hours SOT I guess your suggestion is the only way.

Thanks for the suggestions! But I cannot live with auto sync off
You got 7 hours battery life? I got 12 hours battery life only with stamina mode (while auto sync is on and xreality is on)

Google Battery drain

Got my mate 7 A few weeks ago. Love it. Getting awesome sot (8.5) the last charge mainly using mobile data..
But today google contact sync is draining so much battery. I've exported and deleted all contacts from google. Disabled back up my phone in settings and even disabled the app in settings and it still opens... I don't really want to have to root it. Any ideas I may not have tried?
Also wonder,my phone is rooted though, well, didn't want to freeze any Google services but some features like backup system is stubbornly running even after disable in settings. Don't know any good medicine from this issue.

Yes I know that. The thing that drives me crazy is that I have no control over running background apps, like backup, that were disabled via Google provided interface. This is type of cheating to have an interface that doesn't do much.

How did you fixed it temporarily?
But the one million dollar question is: How much battery is lost while idle overnight?
This is the real question I think, because in all my tests, no matter the build version, I have got l least 5 hours of SOT (17 hours of use in total), which is not bad,
but most people get at least 7 hours SOT (in some 30+ hours) I guess I use it too frequently.
So, that would be the main question.
Please, do try to answer and tell us. Thank you!

I have already told it in this discussion, I have frost (later removed actually) google app system application, and fresh installed it from the market as user app.
As I said earlier though, now I use unrooted phone with locked bootloader, in completely original state (except I use tsf shell and disabled all unused system apps) and no longer have any problem with battery.

Not sure if it works like Greenify but my S6E is definitely smoother and last longer.
It appears to be an add on to the Smart Manager under the battery section
Agreed definitely smoother and quicker
Possibly a move towards Marshmallow as read today Google want everyone to be able to map battery usage by app or hardware
Few more screen shots is a disable, auto clean and the a frequency option
Anyone know how to get rid of the notification? I have enabled auto optimize, but every day I get the notification that my phone can auto optimize apps. Kinda annoying.
Press for a few seconds at the notification then tap app info and uncheck the show notifications.
Definitely, my Edge works as a champion until night, this is a great update!

Yeah wish it was that simple. Samsung made sure to remove that possibility from this app.
You know what, the more I use samsung phones, the more annoyed I get with them, cause they pull stupid **** like this. A few updates ago it was the weather app nagging with notifications, and when they fixed that, they just introduce another silly app to do the same stuff.
I'm done.

I was asking because on my edge, on COI9 it doesn't say "always battery saving" but rather "always optimize" and I don't get standby times that great. I thought that since there is a new firmware available Samsung changed something in the algorithm, hence the name change and techsammy was on the new one, hence the much better standby times (and maybe has something disabled that does wonders)

serious battery drain on Android 10

Is anyone having serious battery drain? If so is there a fix for it!!
Not here...
Full charge at 9:00pm and by 6:00am I only see 3% drop, I don't call it a drain
(no root, latest Android Q update, location on, cell data on, bluetooth and NFC off)
Yes there is definitely higher drain on Android 10 overall.
Currently I am on AOSiP10 and getting 3-4% idle drain and about 2-3 SOT less than on AICP Pie. My friend on Stock 10 @ZeroInfinity has noticed a higher drain than Pie as well.
I'm in the process of figuring out what is causing the higher drain.

No mine is about the same as with Pie (I haven't noticed any difference ... apart from once when I ran it right down I only got about 8hrs of sot (screen on time whereas on pie I'd get about 9 but it wasn't scientific not sure if I had the exact same settings).
Is an app showing high battery usage (Also use hamburger menu to show full system usage which incl standby)(might even be worth also looking at memory usage for each app under developer settings, if nothing stands out under battery for some reason). If very high usage suddenly maybe an app conflict with latest update. Or possibly even a crypto miner or some other malware. You can also check battery usage when booted into safe mode so no third party apps run.

Custom is always better than stock on this phone.
Wait for the AOSP ROMs to arrive and you will be able to easily get double that SOT time!

I did notice somewhat higher drain on A10, but not too much to worry about. My SOT on a single charge is usually about 5+ hours. Full stock, rooted. I am using WiFi Automatic to disable WiFi when the phone is inactive, so that might be helping, not sure how much...
On AOSiP10 there is no wild battery drain.
My device sleeps like a baby.
My advice? Stay off stock Android 10 if at all possible!

Not trying to convince anybody, but I am quite happy on stock. I used to flash custom ROMs a lot, but there is always *something* that doesn't work properly. Could be camera, audio, bluetooth, calls, sensors, whatever... So, optimized stock always seems to work better for me. Especially considering that stock on PH-1 is essentially (no pun intended ) a clean Android, I see no reason to switch. But... To everyone their own.

The following is fairly normal for me with web browsing & social media (no gaming), I have background scanning set to off for both wifi & Bluetooth but do have an always on VPN as you can see (that battery drain is from other apps using the VPN, not just the VPN)

What optimizations are you using with Android 10?
I'm getting similar results just using Magisk modules: FDE.AI (plus liboemcrypto disabler for on-demand apps and updates).
Also, my phone was ported from Sprint to T-Mobile and I've only recently got a better grip on changing tower conditions with this APN guide from T-Mobile. I had redundant APNs that may have been slowing connection to changing conditions while in motion or changing towers. Support wasn't much help anytime I called. Vacationing in a rural area with limited and slow data had me looking for a better solution. Even better than before coming back home and surfing internet in a passenger car on the freeway. Deleting the redundant ones was key, I believe.

Actually, same here - I am using FDE.AI as well. I also use WiFi Automatic to turn off WiFi when the phone sleeps (IMO, it was a dumb move to remove that setting from Android). I am also shutting down Internet access with NetGuard to the apps that have no business with it, and limiting or removing location access to most of the apps.
On my previous devices I had to get rid of the OEM and carrier bloat, but PH-1 is using basically a clean Android, making it much leaner...

I haven't tried WiFi disabling in years (Juice Defender and profile apps) but I do limit apps' access to Internet with Adguard (unlocked licensed version).
I'll give the WiFi Automatic app a try and see how that goes. I have little use for WiFi outside of those saved networks that auto connect.
Thanks for the reply and suggestion.

mine is just a bit weird on the battery usage. the Google play services is the highest usage on the battery but it just use running foreground for an hour. just want to clear the phone cache but it seems that it could not be cleared since my phone is not rooted

If you are sure it's play services you can just go to apps, find it & then go to "storage & cache" and clear cache or if that doesn't work clear data. (you do not need to be rooted)
However I suspect it's more likely another app is the cause as some apps will use services like location that rely on Google play services which then shows high battryr use but it is these other apps that are actually the cause as they are requesting the service. If you can't work out which tureen on developer option and look under "running services" and "memory" watch hopefully will give you a clue.
PS. You can boot to the recovery and wipe the whole cache partition from there

clearing data is the last method for me. if it is possible, i would not do it.
actually, the Google play services don't play to much, the battery just drain when the screen is on. however, i have tried to clear the cache of google play service before, it doesn't help.
there is an update today, just see whether it would improve it or not. would it be the issue of the battery indicator?
