Charging port issue - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Questions & Answers

Does anyone else have an issue with their charging port not taking the usb all the way in? It's hanging out for me. I traded my lg v20 for this and the owner claims it has been like that since he bought it. But it seems very weird. Is this normal? Or is there something stuck in the charging port?
Thanks for any input

I had this problem when i bought it.
Strange enough, it was a piece of paper in the port.
When i got it out , it was all good.
Check to see if it's not dusty or has something in it

It shall lock in at the bottom. I expect that the Port is filled up with dust. Try to clean it out carefully with a needle.

No luck still unfortunately. It doesn't seem like anything is stuck in there. Tried using a vaccum to suck out any dust or debris but didn't work. I'll keep trying

This one is exactly the same with me, for a few days i tried to buy new usb-c cables, and its not working. And eventually i found a veryyyy tiny piece of paper at the left corner side of the port.
You could use a small sewing needle to poke and see if there are things stuck in between the charging port. Also you can try to push the cable slowly and see where it stucks to identify any unwanted object inside your port.
hope this helps!

Had that one too with another phone , nothing was in there but it worked to load the battery so it was ok for me....

never use a needle, it might damage the copper, use a wooden toothpick

I need around 3-4 hours to charge from 10-100% is that normall? Or my fastcharging not working.

It's not normal. If you are on MIUI, do you get the circle around the lightning sign in the statusbar when you are charging?

Are you on MIUI 9?
If yes, i don't really know... It can be a lot of things... Like the cable that you use (if you use the one that comes in the box you are ok), the port is dusty, the rom needs to be flashed with fastboot , or you didn't do a factory reset when you updated from miui 8....

If you are on 8.5 , it's fine. That's a thing that comes with the update for Miui 9.

[FUN] Elf in the refrigerator

Hi, I'm the proud owner of an ELF(in). I bought it on ebay very cheap because it was in bootloader mode. Thanks to the gold card method I've been using it with no problems at all.
Yesterday I bought another one (ELF), it hangs after 3-5 seconds of power on (bootloader, loading windows, etc). Sometimes the screen just shuts off, sometimes everyting becames green. So, I decided to put it in the refrigerator and see what happens. After 15 minutes I powered it up and it works! I take it out and hangs almost immediately. Is this just a faulty unit? No hope for it? (I don't want to carry my refrigerator everywhere).
If someone has any ideas, I'm listening.
Thanks!
hahaha, i love this post. sorry i'm not able to offer too much help but I had to comment. I know my parents used to freeze batteries to make em last longer. Tried a different one?
Well yeah, I tried soft reset, hard reset, the battery from my working Elfin, etc.
Try the microwave... for two minutes?
There already was a thread about this problem (maybe you bought it) and already then my answer was to take the device apart clean all the dust and dirt inside and give it another shot. I had a nokia with the same problem and when i opened it it was full with dust and fibres from my pants everytime whe put it in our pants there comes a bit of dirt in it and because of the rubbing it acumulates inside the device and it enters in protection-mode (nice word????) because of overheating ate least that was the explanation they gave me when i contacted nokia at the time.........You can't loose anything by trying

I already cleaned up, and still the same. It's clearly an overheating problem, it's been in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and works like a charm. Not very useful though as it's no longer a "portable device"!

Just buy one of those mini refrigerators... carry it around on your back (along with a VERY long extension cord) and have your Elfin inside. When you need a snack or need to call, the fridge is always there!

Well, I hope you didn't pay much for it. You can always keep it handy for spare parts when you might need some. My first thought was that you might want to try using a different battery, but I see you already tried this.

Is there not a small watch size battery in these devices - Perhaps it needs replacing?
See picture I included at the bottom of the device. I got this picture from the complete disasembly guide in the elf forum.
I knew about people who used the refrigerator to overclock their PCs, but this thing you're doing is amazing!

I used a small box with ice when I connected it to the PC for rom updating, perhaps I should carry that box. I know it sounds bizarre but it works fine when refrigerated!

I disconnected that battery and it works just the same without it!
Any more ideas on how to fix this Elf?
try booting into windows and looking at the cpu speed, if it is normal lower it to the minimum and see if it hangs then.
eitherway, u must try reflashing everypiece of firmware, especially the radio firmware before giving up. (yeah, u might have to put ur laptop in the fridge with the phone )
Try lowering the clock speed with and Overclocking tool. Homescreen ++ gives u temp report. With that u can know if the temp is the real problem.
Liquid Nitrogen is the answer
Fix a fan on it
Haha, how about fixing a computer fan at the back of the pocket pc, it needs cooling.
Maybe the temperature sensor of the ppc has been spoilt, reporting the wrong data to the brain, thus the ppc restarts.
Ok, finally my Elf is working with no crashes at all outside the fridge! I found the solution in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476152.
Thanks to Firestarter42 for the tip and okti for the mini-tutorial. I think that info should be in Elf's Wiki page.
However! I've got another problem... I've attached a screenshot. Any ideas?

Strange screen blinking?! help please!

Got yesterday my Acer A500 and its really great.
But a few minutes ago I got a strange problem ( not rooted or flashed yet, just the normal 3.0.1 stock rom )
battery was down to 10% and then the screen started blinking ( turned off and on again and again). while this I also couldn´t use the screen everywhere.only several areas worked.
do you think that I should send it back for warranty or just wait?
help would be appreciated!thanks in advance!
didn´t remove this acer sticker and just recognized that the screen has problems that touch input doesn´t work, so removed it and it works again.tested again with the sticker -> screen blocked -> removed -> works again...lol maybe the solution.because this was like touching the screen, although the first day the sticker didn´t effect the display usage
I would say yes. To sending it back if you got it online.I drooped my very slightly same kinda thing I took it apart and was the. Monitor connector loose.my GPS radio antana was lose as well. Go figure. I put drop of silicone on the connectors to prevent them from coming loose again
now battery stats hang. it remains on a certain percentage and only after a reboot it shows the current stats...don´t know what to do...

Did apply a screen protector that was wet application or get the unit wet in any way? If so, you may have moisture contamination in your unit.

First of all, the above statement makes me shudder.
Anyway, it really does sound the unit has moisture contamination. Not much, but enough to throw a few circuits off.
All this is waaay too funny ! I really didn't know. Damn it now I'm nearly to old to do anything about it. Back to topic, agree it may be moisture. Give it a day or two & a good charge & see what happens. If not try a reset then exchange if not working. Good luck.
the blinking issue only was once and also the battery now seems to be fine.really nice tablet though
The screen on/off problem is resolved with the OTA firmware update and the Honeycomb 3.1 update. No sense returning the Iconia because the new one will still have to wait for the updates to be pushed to the device. The problem will be resolved automatically as soon as the updates are pushed to your device.

Broken the USB port -_-

Last week when charging my phone, it slipped off my desk and something happened inside the phones USB port. The little metal contact was moved out of place. I could still charge, but it had to be at a certain angle and if I picked it up it stopped charging.
And this morning, I broke it even more. I dropped it into a bowl of milky cereal. I didn't think it would be too bad. I wiped it down and I've been using it fine all day at college. But I've just got home and went to test if it still charged. On my own little USB cord I had from elsewhere it didn't work, but on the official LG one it worked after a LOT of shuffling around and changing the angle.
I'm gonna leave it as it is to make sure it doesn't stop charging, because I don't have a wireless charger handy.. I would also prefer to get the official orb from Google, because I don't want to spend a lot of money of something that doesn't work very well.
I was wondering if there is a way to fix this myself, or can I get a replacement from Google/LG?

I'm actually quite careful with my phone! It's just very smooth and slippery..
I would call them and tell them it no longer charges.
See what they say. Worst thing they do is say not covered.
I would omit the milk and dropping parts.

So if I just say it's stopped charging, they might be kind a send a replacement without any hassle? Or would I have to return the device?
There is no need to leave a post in the respective thread if you are reporting something. Please stick to the topic guys.

Charging Port Issues

Um so about a month ago i was charging my Note and I placed it on my desks keyboard slide-out tray but the Note fell and landed directly on the charging port with the cable plugged in and it looked like it bent the port internally since the cable no longer sits flat or stiff. I am willing to open the device and fix it since my warranty is shot since I rooted it lol. What do you guys suggest?

well, I think your options are probably pretty limited. Personally i would probably give it a shot, but you could also send it in to evga and pay for them to fix, probably $100+ or bring it to a local place to try it?

Touch problems with video proof

So, as we all know, some OPO's have touch issues. Many are because of software and many are because of hardware. My OPO suffers from both, and here are two screencasts as proof. I muted the sound with Movie Maker since it's not relevant to what I'm showing you.
The phone is lying flat on my desk and I start off by adding one finger from my right hand, then another finger. Then I add a third finger from my left hand and start moving it around as you can see in the videos, all while keeping my right hand fingers perfectly still. Without a charger or USB connected (to my computer), the touch is crazy. With a charger or USB, the touch is perfectly fine. This is with the latest touch firmware, might I add, and the touch was just the same with the previous versions. Definitely a hardware error (grounding?).

That's is interesting mate, that's quite a find tbh, would charging and not charging be a bug in the firmware....

Just had a go myself. I get the issue after using 5-6 fingers, more so when the device is flat (odd). When I charge the phone and do the test it is gone completely. Only difference in my situation is that it doesn't crop up when I'm typing, I don't suffer from ghost swipes etc when doing normal browsing or playing games. It functions as good as my M7 until I start to use 5+ fingers on the screen

No idea, tbh. It seems that the ghost swipes are gone with the latest firmware and that I can type quickly. Seemingly so after directly booting the phone up, at least. My OPO lies shutdown on my desk most of the time since I use my S5 daily. Just knowing about this issue bothers me a lot, though. I wonder what OP will reply in the mail I sent them. They (a support guy) asked me to send them videos of the problem so that they could help shedding some light as to what issues I'm facing.
I tried it as well when you plug it in I can use 10 fingers and no issues without plugging in anything above 6 screws up :/

Probably. The fact that it doesn't happen to everyone unless they use a lot of fingers at once is more than likely the reason some say they don't have it. If I didn't install the multitouch test app I'd assume the screen is perfect since I never use more than two fingers on the screen at once anyways

Then my One must be pretty darn bad since it started acting up after only four fingers. Not that I'd ever need that many simultaneously for anything other than touch testing apps, though. I think I most likely have a general touch issues as well as most issues resolve themselves after a reboot but come crawling back slowly.

You might be better off not purchasing any device with the "One" name regardless of whether it is HTC or OP based on your track record lol. It does sound like general touch issues though. Good thing you have the S5. Personally I'd keep the phone though and have it as a spare when/if newer updates help to alleviate the issue.

Yes, I think so too. I had it up for sale but took the ad down as I felt like keeping it instead. Besides, the touch seems better with the new "firmware" and might just "do" as a spare. Would be nice testing some CM-infused Lollipop too.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55195874&postcount=1783
Unfortunately he did not post any pictures. Side effects like increased heat could come with this modification.
Curious, do you have the hardware buttons activated? It maybe in my head but I just tried this and the touchscreen seems better (no random movement nor false presses or merges) when the hardware buttons are disabled. I dont really find the touchscreen a problem but it may help you guys, I am sticking with software buttons now (always did with my nexus ) and cant complain now!

The problem here is that the touch panel doesn't properly ground to the back cover for some strange reason. Notice how the touch works brilliantly in my other video? Yeah, that's because I now grounded the phone by physically touching the back cover (I had to take off my flip case for this). It also grounds as it should when there's some electrical current entering the usb port in some way (either by a wall plug charger or a USB cable connected to your computer).
It has to be bad grounding. Nothing else makes sense.
