Need help rooting an LG V20 h91810s? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

So I am interested in rooting my LG V20 h91810s. From what I gather I have to roll it back to 10j or i. I have the bootloader unlocked already. But I'm not sure about the rollback. Will a factory reset take it back to 10j or 10i? If not, I haven't been able to find step by step instructions on doing this. I think once I can get it rolled back I should be able to follow https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/instruction-to-root-h918-10i-t3536472 in order to root it. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

No can do..... You will make your phone into a paper weight.

So there is no way to root it? I need to root it in order to recover some very important texts. If it can't be rooted does anyone know how I could recover a deleted sms thread?

Thread title changed on OP's request

Thank you very much.

As of right now anything 10p or higher is ARB01. Which means you can't roll back to root. Trying will create a brick. There are people working hard to make it happen but until then it's a waiting game. As for the recovery of SMS hopefully someone can help you. Chances are if you've searched and searched for an answer with no luck, it'll be hard to get that answer here. But you never know. Good luck.

Ah, that sucks. Well tyvm anyway.

We are both on the same boat unfortunately, we'll have to wait patiently.....

Me too waiting to root my h91810s.... hopefully someone will find a method soon.....

Sucks! But I like this phone. It'll be a shame to switch. ?

might be a dumb question but has any of you guys tried kingroot?

Yeah no reason for you to try... Cause of it works we would be rooted Samsung style using flashify instead of twrp.

Care to interpret what exactly they did to root? Where to get files and how to? Maybe this can be changed to English format.....

Just wondering if there's a progress thread for the h91810s exploit. I just received mine and it's on the same firmware.

New T-Mobile Update Root?

So I understand that there is a new update out and I'm wanting to upgrade to it. I'm currently rooted and have xposed installed. I was wondering if I will keep root and not have to wipe my device.
If I have to re-root it, could someone please show me the steps to take? I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Yes, to upgrade to the newest firmware you will lose root and more then likely have to fully wipe your phone, just make sure you back everything up. The root method is the same as when you 1st rooted your phone, but I will leave you a link to the root thread. Always try to search for the answer's before asking question's. Hope this helps you out buddy Click here

Hey bud I hope I caught you before you took the update. I would read the stock rom thread for that update. Something about not updating the bootloader . I have not taken the update as of yet so I dont know about it but here is the thread for it. You might want to ask in there before updating.

Does anyone know to unroot it and go back to stock?

You're a good man for offering to help ! :good:
Any help with that?
I am also awaiting an answer.
My last 2 Samsung phones had issues and I needed to Odin back to stock for warranty exchange at T-Mobile.
So I'm holding off on rooting till we have something of the sort for the v20.
Using Odin to flash my s7e back to stock while having severe screen issues saved my butt.
I'm on JoD for reference, and needed to switch phones at a brick and mortar.
Side note : loving the blooming development for this device.
Thanks for that, all parties concerned.

Does this unroot method work for the sprint variant? I am stock unrooted on the build the phone came out of the box with, and waiting until rooting isn't a one-way street to take the plunge. If it does, are you 100% certain that it had been used in sprint v20s successfully?
That thread specifically says H918. So no.

You are in the exact same position as me. I'm excited that we have an unlocked bootloader and root for the Sprint variant, but I have no desire to do anything until there's an established procedure to unroot and revert back to stock.

Here's hoping it's taken care of. Sprint didn't used to be such a **** when it came to bootloaders. Anyways, I appreciate all the hard work the devs have been doing. Can't wait until I get the chance to experience it. With a stable 200mhz overclock, there's no functional difference between the snapdragon 820 and the snapdragon 821.
Do any of the posted methods work to restore the VS995 variant to stock?
I really want to go ahead and root it (and yes, have disabled updates so still run 12A since I knew VZW was going to be evil and patch it) but I'm very hesitant to do so without a way to restore to stock. Is it one of those things that's just a matter of time, or is there a substantial likelihood it may never be possible?

Don't try to root Nougat from Android Infotech website!

Hi all,
I receive a lot of private messages about root for Nougat from this website:
http://www.androidinfotech.com/2017/06/root-sony-xperia-xa-ultra-nougat.html
DON'T CLIC ON IT, IT'S A CLICBAIT!
I never released anything for Nougat so please don't ask me why it doesn't work, it's only a scam to win money from ads.
If you can't find my work on Xda you will not find it anywhere.

Hi, technically root is possible, I have it but not released to the public. Why? Because nobody supported my work and as you can see my root guide have only 29 thanks. You will have to wait for a release from an other user or maybe if my guide reaches 100 thanks (don't count on it).
Damn...
I had TA dumped the day I got it and I am ready to root it.
Well, I have to return it because there no root on 7

DRM fix with TA dump doesn't work on Nougat, bootloop at Sony logo (tested on XA Ultra)
The only good news it that SafetyNet is OK with Magisk Manager app v5.0.4 and zip v13.1 on Nougat.

I'm not nervous but politeness is a minimum when someone spend some time for you, it's not normal to ask for any thank. I talk about my root guide (and root files). I was silly to think this, now I learned a good lesson: work for yourself and you will not have to wait for any thank.

Me ? I never said to go back to 6.0. Maybe it's your fault because you forgot to exclude TA parts of the firmware or you didn't used the fsc script or you used an old version of Flashtool? I downgraded/flashed my devices many times and never got any problems.

Agreed. I rolled back to 6.0 2 times without problems. Btw. I have a spare Z1 and I accidentally flashed those .ta files but they did no harm. I think they are useless even when flashed.

I successfully flashed to 6.0 (.160), but after I flashed your kernel from dev section and it has bootloop problem (from either rootpack or individual). Should I flash to earlier version? My choice is
Customized LAM (.182, 7.0)
Customized US (.182, 7.0)
Customized Peru (.160, 6.0)
Service Exchange Unit (.111, 6.0)
Please continue your work, and I always give thanks once I found it's working.
----- update -----
I sucessfully flashed to Service Exchange Unit (.111, 6.0) and everything worked as it's supposed to be, and rooted with SuperSU (but I will move to Magisk in the future)

You quoted wrong person. If you flash an older kernel over a new firmware, you get bootloop. I had that too.
I really wish I could do such coding to compile both boot and recovery because XA Ultra is really awesome, but you have to catch up with version.

Excellent! I wanted some confirmation from someone with the same phone (unlocked AT&T on N.)
Have you remained rooted since? I'm hearing mixed reports about performance and things stop working.) My primary concern though is our locked bootloaders. If we make changes that cause problems can we undo it? Like flashing the stock firmware? Thanks

Yes, I have remained rooted, but I ended up going back to stock G935A and then rooting again with that procedure. Personally, I was not getting the performance I was used to with the G935U as I was with the G935A with the root procedure.
Yes, there are some things that do not work with these eng.imgs that are being used to root the phones. There is NO Xposed for this one, Samsung Pay does not work, but I have been using Android Pay and it works just fine. As for the Bootloader, it is still LOCKED. There has not been any Unlocked bootloaders for the G935 or G930 so far and I don't think we will see it anytime soon.
As for Undoing, yes. There is a very simple way to go back to stock with Odin. In fact, about once a month, I return to stock just so I can get the latest security patch and then re-root my phone back to this way. I know it is somewhat of a pain, but with Titanium Back up I can get my phone back to running normally in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps...
It's not quite as fast, but if you are backing up and restoring to the same device, you can just use ADB. I still have a TiBu license, and use it on my Tab S2, but I have largely adapted to not having root on my S7 by taking advantage of basic ADB features.

What I meant was Xposed doesn't work on the current version of root using the eng.img. I have not tried using the NEW Xposed that is in THIS thread. I have looked at it but have not had a chance to run the zipped file and installing it. I know it works with MM as I had it working GREAT with MM and the eng.img with that version. I love Xposed and wish that was available for Nougat and N's root. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fully implemented soon.

I tried this 4 times and failed. The problem is it just keeps rebooting (about every 45 to 60 seconds) after I flash the eng boot img. Im never able to run adb commands. If I start from a clean slate I can't even make it past the setup screens to enable debugging.
I'm reaching out to you because you succeeded with the same model SM-G935U
So I'm just seeing if you have any insights. My phone should be the same as yours. Only difference is mine came with 7.0 preinstalled. Maybe an earlier firmware? But that doesn't make sense because people are, to my understanding, using the eng boot with recent firmware.
I'll repost in the root thread if I need to but thought I'd see if you have anything to offer. Thanks

I seem to remember the constant rebooting on the U-Firmware also. I too kept trying and it finally took. I think I would take the OTA from the server and try to install the eng.img with Odin. When you do this, does Odin give you any errors? Or does it succeed at the installation?
It has been a few months since I rooted the U-Firmware so not for sure what fixed the rooting process. Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Thanks. No Odin works perfectly whether I flash eng boot or stock.
I looked at the root guide for Sprint and the process is a lot more involved. I believe he boots to recovery twice and wipes cache plus factory reset twice. He also stresses to get the root.bat run quickly to avoid bootloop.
Might be worth a shot but the process of running Odin, getting back to stock and restoring all my data winds up being close to a few hours so It'd be very helpful to find someone with the same issue as me who was able to resolve it.

Is there a way to take my stock dump files and create a flashable kdz or something?

There's gotta be some way to flash my stock files back to my phone, correct???
I have all my dump files and want to restore to bone stock. Had nothing but problems since trying a root method.
Any help would be greatly appreciated and monetarily rewarded.
THANKS!!!!:good:
