Android oreo - HTC U Ultra Questions & Answers

Why is this phone's support so terrible?
Those people who spent 750 bucks on this phone at launch is absurd to be treated unfairly by htc

A big part of HTCs Phone department was sold to Google. So they don't have the ressources to spend on a phone that sold maybe 10.000 times. It's real **** for those who spend so much and have to stick with not even the newest OS from 2016 in 2018. Since nobody writes about this phone they don't even have to worry about their reputation.
Fortunately most people bought it when it was cheap. So it's not a big loss.

I gave It back and bought a Xiaomi Mi A1.

Just be patience. Device is already running smooth on Nougat. Fast updates always comes with bugs. Let the dev make a good one till then wait

well, looks like it will be updated to oreo soon......

It is reported on a Taiwanese tech website that Oreo will land on U Ultra before the end of February: https://www.kocpc.com.tw/archives/182858
Translation: Among them, Android 8.0 was released on HTC U11 and HTC 10 in November last year. According to some very reliable sources, HTC U Ultra will receive Oreo update before the end of February this year, becoming the first smartphone to get Oreo update after Lunar New Year.

U ultra oreo update now
Just received the update via OTA.
Oreo installed and working smoothly.

Any news on when we getting Oreo?

What the tittle says
Yes there is, we'll get it in 2 months period.
Any ideas why so long? Sony already got it and they are skinned as well as others are close behind like Samsung with their beta tests and htc why is this one taking so long to push since it is almost pure?

Sony have a much bigger dev team, plus sony has a large community of devs and testers that work for free since they release all their code to open source.
But is this not like the purest of Android ... On paper it should be just plug test and play for the A1?
In principle, yes. But I going by the apparent fact that Google isn't in charge of software but xiaomi is, my guess is that is the reason why there is no oreo yet...
I presume. I've heard good things for this company let's see how this phone will hold up to what people say
I think that the Andorid One topic is quite new for them (too) and they just have to collect their experience first so I'm pretty sure for the following updates they will get more and more routine so this is just the beginning....
With Android One, doesn't Google control the OS updates like in Pixel. We get security fixes along with Pixel
Android one suppose to be the first device after pixel and nexus to get Oreo.
Devices are getting beta version or something of Oreo.
And we are just waiting ,
Don't want to rush anything but atleast a official comment on the Oreo for android one would be grate...
They says by the end of this year, its mean December, calm down
I have a friend working in Mi China and he says their Target is indeed for December 2017. So let's just all chill out till then.
From what I guess Google isn't really controlling the updates of mi a1. STOCK android doesn't support capacitive nav bars and a IR sensor too. Moreover there are dual cameras on this phone. So mi has to so tweaks to accommodate all this. That's why it must be taking some time.

There is nothing like this. Android one is a program which ensures every updates not faster updates. So keep calm. They will release it by 31st Dec.
The update chain is not that what u r thinking right now.
Google - Processor manufacturers - OEMs - Beta testers - OEM - Public Release.
As far as what I've seen and heard on mi community discussions some guy had posted a pic of his discussion with one of the representatives from Xiaomi. It said that they werent sure on when they are going to release the update as they haven't finalized the date yet. They said that it could be in late january 2018

If a random representative said that, must be true
I would give them 2-3 days more before I start having my doubts . They've said by end of December ..so no point rushing unless . Just hope there aren't any major bugs in the beta

Oreo 4 mi a1

I'm trying to think if my xiaomi A1 has Android one on it or not .
I'm reading everyday about to many phone that are getting updates to Oreo but not in my(our) case.
Like I said ,I was/am very angry to see Sony , HTC , OPO , Samsung (and the list is so open) and the One's still waiting ...
Shame one you Google/xiaomi !
I'm feeling so frustrated!

I don't get it why you are so upset that we dont have Oreo yet. Xiaomi clearly said on the launch of the A1 that we'll get Oreo by the end of the year and I think they ment December. I think it's a matter of max 2 weeks until we get Oreo. And btw i would like to wait a little bit more and get 8.1 skipping 8.0 but that's just me.

I believe I'll be so happy to see the 8's in January.
None of them are getting Oreo update yet, but beta testers only and Samsung will get it next year. And like VerOs said, Xiaomi said at the launch that Xiaomi Mi A1 will get Oreo by the end of the year.

Chill man. None of the OEM supported project treble after updating Oreo but google will push android Oreo update to Mi A1 with project treble support. Just chill its better to wait and have project treble option than the having just Oreo update
No idea why are you angry, we get monthly updates with the latest security patches as promised (and btw. we have KRACK fix sooner than Nexus/Pixel line). There is next to nothing so great in Oreo and some things are even broken, no idea why are you so eager to get it. I would prefer skipping 8.0 and going straight to 8.1 as well. 7.1.2 with Xposed is IMHO much better than stock 8.0 (had it on my Nexus 5X and honestly I don't miss Oreo at all).

Keep dreaming mate. There's no way to skip it straight to 8.1 . Do you have a source? They are so slowly making the Oreo update and you're wishing to 8.1 ?I'll bet the 8.1 will be ready in spring 2018
I said I would prefer it, not that it's going to happen. In each case, official statement was that we will receive regular monthly security patches, which is happening. Oreo was promised before end of 2017 and as far as I see in my calendar, there is one month remaining. So..stop being angry and enjoy almost bug free Nougat with Xposed while you wait for Oreo. Or just purchase Pixel..

Absoultely agreed mate. I have tested Oreo on several devices, on my Mi4w in a very stable stage. But there is really nothing special about Oreo. A good, stable and cute 7.1.2 is always better than a half-baked 8.0.

Honor 8 removed from list from interview with CEO

Hi guys.
I earlier posted an interview with Honor CEO George Zhao that the Honor 8 was confirmed to be recieveing the 8.0 Oreo update.
But since then, the Honor 8 has been removed from the devices which Zhao listed who are being updated.
What are your guys thoughts?

It could mean that even he isn't sure which models are actively testing Oreo or they haven't even started testing it. Until it's put through some type of early tests, they can't release any info.
Haha let's start speculation again.
You right.
I am assuming that he is very well aware of what's the Honor plan in near future. On the other hand it might be later found inconvenient for Huawei to let spread the official statement about last year Honor flagships -
Honor 8 and 8 Pro - are about to receive Oreo which might have significant impact on both Huawei and Honor new models sales (like still mentioned Honor 9 and V9). I think they will release official statement (now they surely have to) after Christmas, probably January 2018, about releasing Oreo for those phones in Q1 of 2018. Who knows Honor would then expect the release of OTA about April to May of 2018 practically.
While there is still a small chance that Huawei could even stop the release of the update if they are afraid of new models sales., I don't think they will play that card for good reason - credibility in the eyes of potential customers.
Where is that list, and where did you got this from?

I think that's an excellent argument, it's very possible that their reasoning is a new OS on an older phone will affect sales of a new phone. Wait a few months after the release of your new phone and then push out Oreo to the older phone. The marketing people may be in charge of this theory.

B398 OTA for L09C432 was pushed recently, and
some Croatian users reported B399 started to appear.
B398 includes November security patch.
B399 includes December security patch.
A new one, B401 just appeared on Firmware Finder, I suppose, according to the size, that it is nougat with January security patch.
So, even if I wish there were monthly updates for security, we have security updates.

They do it all the time, after this the FRD-L09 models won't see updates for a while and all the other models will recieve updates. They did this before and I'm pretty sure they'll do it again. I just don't get why Honor doesn't have one universal model number for all regions like OnePlus or Google.

this is why you stop supporting them. i have im just waiting to see what the new Sony phones look like but im just itching to buy a oneplus 5t. i bought 3 1+5s for my family but due to the front facing fingerprint reader i passed.
the 5t seems great aside from the lack of expandable storage so i hope the new Sony phones look good.

sony is great on software in fact its the best due to its large adds a large amount of code to aosp. they use vanilla ui with optimization and if they use a skin its easy to remove thanks to rro.
all oems should follow sony's ui methods. no one likes themes that are hard coded, they just suck! what im hoping is that google bakes security updates into treble so that they can be downloaded through the playstore in the future.
About two weeks ago I sent an Email to the honor support. I asked them about their once made promise to update the honor 8 for at least two years after the release. The answer was that the two years support would only include security updates. They wouldnt give any comment on oreo. I would guess it is rather unlikely that we will get an update to oreo for our device.

How come the Mi A2 is a failure if it's one of the best selling Xiaomi phones on Aliexpress and other markets?
If you don't like it, sell it and buy a new phone, it is that simple, no need to be a martyr.
If you want custom roms, how about you develop it yourself instead of complaning that no one took their free time and knolowedge to make you free roms? I can only speak for myself, as I have no desire in developing for such an arrogant and whiny user base as of the Mi A2's. Or I can develop a Pie AOSP rom and charge for it, how about that?
Android One responsibility are complicated..
So far away for pie
Just talk about some bug on current 8.1 rom (like slow emmc read/write speed, unresponsive proximity sensor n etc) and some miss faeture and support like arcore, camera2api, tap2wake...
Im sure they work on it but not fast like miui
To be honest mi a2 are overshadowed by redmi note 5/pro, and poco f1, so this phone not much attracted/interesting for some community developer...

I'd rather have a smooth and bug free phone than a rushed update. I mean, both the A2 and A2 Lite are full of bugs. Nokia is working with only Android One phones, while Xiaomi have so many to work on. They are slow anyway.

Pie update is in testing, Xiaomi sells far more A2 than all Nokia combined, so the extra care, whatever pie update should come in few days with November update.
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi A2 using XDA Labs
The main reason why I bought the phone was Android One. I expected to receive updates as early as possible just like the damn website on Android One is saying.
Until now, Xiaomi is a big f*cking disappointment because of bugs, CPU frequency lock (I have a phone that can't be used with Fingerprint and those morons at Xiaomi don't even want to acknowledge that), slow updates, no camera2api enabled by default (I had to erase the phone!), TWRP etc.
This is by no way a premier/premium phone. The Galaxy A5 2016 I had for two years was way better because it felt and ran like wind.

No, I'm very confident, also its Xiaomi goal to announce it before Xmas sales season begins to push A2 sales yet not as good as the A1's.
Besides Android Pie goodies, another improvement is to include Bluetooth LDAC support, and maybe improvements on camera.
We received the November security patch now, so i think we will be receiving pie in December only..... Thanks for your reply

Official android 10 for mi a2 yet to release

The android 10 official update yet to rollout.
Other non android one phones have rolled out android 10 for their devices . It feels so bad Mi a2 being android one phone still have no any official announcement regarding that. Even they do not have any roadmap for the release.
The December 2019 security patch has rolled out leading with a major Chrome bug inside that.
Since October Google had pushed the update from their side, but xiaomi is taking a lot of time in rolling out the update.
Also their is no beta version rolled out for the same for android 10.
Kindly the senior devs please spread this post to xiaomi, so that they will look into this.
Thankyou.
That surely is the last Xiaomi device I'm going to ever buy. Completely disappointed. The main reason I picked this "Apple boldness" device is the Android one project, second the price. Now I know it was kind of a waste of money for what I wanted and needed from a smartphone. Even Samsung are rolling out Android 10 with a lot more of useful resources sooner, when not, they offer roadmaps and news about it. Putting aside its stable security patches releases even for A5 2017, month after month, my previous daily driver.
