Error code 404 Can't download any apps from Google Play Store - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I can't download any apps from Google Play Store from my Chinese Axon 7.
Does anyone else have this issue or know how to solve it?

Having the same issue with the new 8.0 test release

Hi all, same here, have an a2017 and I live in Italy.
I read somewhere on the web that google and the Chinese government are discussing about company policy. Perhaps it is a new urban legend, but I still have the problem.
What about from you ?

May be its because of test version. I faced similar issue when upgrading from marshmallow to nougat.
I manually upgraded the play services , even then I am getting the same error and its showing as uncertified device.
Can't connect my account to any apps like YouTube ,Maps etc its giving network error.

Everything could be possible, but I didn't any beta test from official Google play store. I got problem yesterday.
The strange thing that Calendar, Chrome, Translate, Gmail are working smoothly.

Same issue
Since yesterday afternoon I've the same problem, tried everything I fund on the internet, no success.
I'm pretty new to Android systems, so don't know what to do further.
Probably I get some help here.
Thanks in advance.

i also experience this. this happened about 2-3 days already. i think this started during the release of oreo. i'm still on 7.1.1 b13 though.

Guys it seems others are experiencing the same issue especially those with Chinese phones it's a global issue.

Same here Chinese version, i suggest to wait rather than start installing & un-installing things... alternatively impotent Apps can be updated with side load.

Same problem 404 error. Wait and see...

Anyone tried Yalp? Or the material design fork?

Hi
found an article today, that there are problems with certifications, but mine shows me it's certified.
I also have an old Samsung S3 with a different google account. This works pretty good on google play.
Than I made a cross change of the accounts. S3 still worked, Axon 7 not.

same here, error code 404. I've phoned UK Google play support tonight to alert them.

I was able to update 1 app today .... They other still error 404 ...

Exactly same here. Some apps can be downloaded or updated but others give you error.

Maybe something is changing, I got google synthesis voice right now and no the other..

All my apps are up to date now but i still can't download some new app ...

Same here can confirm some Apps does update and some don't.

one more update, all of my applications are now updated, the store keeps on failing and retrying (automatically) but at the end applications are updated.
is it annoying to the eye, and i assume all of the failed installations cost data but at the end the issue seems to be resolving itself slowly.

same here, yesterday some updated some not. today all have worked first time. just tried banggood update and it failed

"Unfortunately Google Search Has Stopped"

Hello,
I just received my new GS4 last night. Google Now crashes repeatedly. It will run OK if I don't add a sports team or a stock ticker but once I "customize" it, it will crash every time I start it.
The error message is "Unfortunately, Google Search Has Stopped".
I have cleared data and then I go through the opt-in process. It will run fine but as mentioned as soon as I change a setting, it will crash and then crash every time after that.
It's Google Search 2.4.10. I can't update it via the Play Store since it's a built-in app. Software version is L720VPUAMDC.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Erick

Google search is updated via the Google Play store. That's where I always get the notification to update. Sometimes it is a manual update. Check there for an update. Google Play > Menu Button > My Apps > See if it has an update available.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had checked that option and there was nothing. I checked the version number there 2.4.10 and that appears to be the most current build.
I just wiped my phone this morning (factory reset from recovery) and signed in. I did nothing else, didn't install any apps, nothing. Went to Google Now, added a sports team and the app crashed as I backed out of the screens. If I press the google button (to the left of the search bar) on the home screen, it hangs. Sometimes it comes up for a sec and then disappears but most of the time I get the "Unfortunately, Google Search has stopped".
This is really odd. I would be very surprised if I am the only user having this issue

Although my sports teams setup in Google Now carried over from my GS3, I decided to try adding another team. I was successful in adding one and backing out of the app without it crashing. I also hit the google button and still didn't have an issue. Not sure what's going on with yours, unfortunately. I'm running 100% stock MDC Android that came on the phone out of the box one week ago.

I have not tried this but I have read of others apparently solving this issue but uninstalling Google Search using Titanium Backup (requires root) then re-installing via Google Play.

Thanks. I saw that too. My only concern was if I should just bring it into the Sprint store first for them to have a look at it. I was worried that if I went the root route to correct it (and I do intend to root anyways), if that didn't correct the problem, then I would need to bring it into the store for them to look at.
Will the restore OS/Wipe Disk option (from stock recovery) bring it back to 100% "original" in case I needed to take it in?
Thanks for the reply. I may just go that route
Unfortunately, Google search has stopped... followup
Did you go with the Titanium backup route an deleted the Google Search app (actually, as I understand it, from the actual ROM... not only as a regular installed app) and re-installed from the Play Store? if so, what are the results?
Both my N4 and my N7 started showing "Unfortunately, Google search has stopped" messages after I edited one sports card in Google Now. Since its happening in both devices it is clearly either an app related issue, a Google related issue or something in between but, definitely NOT a hardware issue...
Your comments are welcome, thanks in advance.

I tested with a friend who got the GS4 last week from Sprint also. I walked him through all of the steps and his search application did not hang at all after adding a sports team or stock ticker. He was on firmware version MDL.
I took it to the Sprint store (even though I bought it from Costco) and they agreed 100% that something was wrong with it. They didn't want to work on it since I just got it from Costco. They said to just take it back since it's so new.
This morning, I received the MDL update. I applied it but unfortunately, it didn't fix the problem
I called Wireless Advocates this morning (the company that sells for Costco) and they suggested that I go back to the store to return it (even though their instructions that arrived with the phone specifically says Do Not Return To Costco In Case Of A Problem.
So, I'm kind of at a loss. If I root it and try to Titanium to delete it, I'm worried that I will lose any recourse with Costco. Once it's rooted, I am out on my own. I am thinking that I will try and return it tonight and if I am unsuccessful, then I will root it and delete the app.
Well, to be honest with you... as annoying and pissing it is to have the "Unfortunately Google Search Has Stopped" problem and Google Now not working properly on its last update, the problem seems not to be as bad to return your shiny new phone to Costco or where you bought it.
This is actually a software problem that Google should be fixing very soon and releasing an update to do so. Bear in mind, also that this very week Google I/O conference will take place in San Francisco and most probably they will release a new Android version 4.3 or 5.... which should include most probably a fix to this.
In the meantime, go to your Play Store, search fo "Google Search" and un-install all upgrade to this app, also disable auto-updates for this app and that should work. I have done it and it is OK (not the latest Google Now..but it works, at least doesn't crash).
During the lifetime of your phone you will encounter bugs in software, as long as they are repaired quickly and there are not impeding the usage of the phone and its critical functions, those are not reasons to return it. My 2 cents.
Good luck.

Thanks Piensa. I appreciate your detailed response.
I am right there with you. I can deal with it as long as I know that it's a software issue and not a hardware issue. The more and more I have been reading (and your reply also) indicates that it is a software issue. The weird part is why my friend's Sprint GS4 doesn't have this problem and the Sprint Store also said that it was a definite bug. That's the part I don't get. Why does his Google Search work and mine is crashing?
Good point about Google I/O (excited to see what they announce this week) and maybe an update will be released. Unfortunately, the version of Google Now included with the GS4 is the very latest (ver 2.4.10.626027) and I am unable to back out any updates (thanks for the suggestion).
I guess I will ride it out this week and see what comes out of Google I/O.
Question. Do you know if I root the phone without installing a custom recovery, can I back it out simply by factory resetting the phone and will Costco/Sprint know that it was rooted at one point?
Thanks again for your help.
Thanks for your comment.
Well, we are all here to help each other...that's the beauty of the Internet !
It seems to my that because of your phone's use pattern the bug got hit and appeared... your friend may not be enjoying his phone as you are...so, no bugs have appeared. Or, he may not have the latest version of Google Search (so he is using an outdated phone!
Pretty much the same happened to me... since few days ago, my Google Now worked perfectly, actually I had no sports card...suddenly, I wanted to check what the heck people was watching on public TV (a sports event) in a restaurant I went to...so I asked Google Now to search..and it came with the names of the playing teams...and decided to add them as my favorite sports in the sports card....everything went down from there when I tried deleting those "favorite teams" from the sports card...everything Google Now started crashing.....
On the other hand, my wife's smartphone, another Android, still works flawlessly... no crashing of G-Now, no weird messages...and she has the exact same Android version as I do.... so, well, we both got lucky finding that SOFTWARE bug.... let us hope that Google will fix it very soon. There are MANY people experiencing this annoyance so, I am confident Google will not let it pass too long...(I understand they may be a little busy with their 2013 I/O event...so, I can wait a few days....).
Again, just downgrade to a previous version of Google Search, by deleting the upgrades of it in the Play Store and don't let it self upgrade Google Searh, for now... if you do that, you will be fine.

I can't back out any updates as there have been none to Google Search. The GS4 ships with the most current. The only option for Google Search in the Play Store is "open".
I can uninstall updates to Gmail, etc but not Google Search (see attached pic).
Thanks for your assistance.
"Unfortunately Google Search Has Stopped
Woow. you are correct.
The version of Google Search that your GS4 came with, from factory, is in fact the latest one. My Nexus 4 came with a previous version installed thus I was able to do the downgrade.
So, if you are not rooted, and/or do not want to mess with your firmware, seems you have to wait for Google to fix this issue. Sorry to learn that friend.
Lets hope it gets fixed very soon.

Yup. I'm trying to decide what to do now. I went to Costco tonight to look into swapping it out for a new one and they don't carry Sprint products in store. So I would either need to work with Wireless Advocates to ship it back and pay $600 for an advance replacement or just wait it out, hoping that the phone itself is fine and wait for Google to correct it.
If I was still on MDC, I would have used motochopper to root it, uninstall Google Search and then test re-installing it to see if it corrects it. But the MDL upgrade today killed that option.
I think I will wait a couple days, see what comes out of I/O as well as the root exploits for MDL and make a decision. It just sucks because I don't want to spend time customizing the phone to my liking in case I swap it out or wipe it, etc.
Again, many thanks for your help.

Thanks. I wish that information like this was more readily available. I have been wiping my phone, making trips to Costco, Sprint, etc and still haven't customized my phone because of this. I thought that my phone was defective but had I seen this, I wouldn't have worried about it and just waited it out.
Thanks.
And it's fixed! (at least it is on my phone).
Google released an update to Google Search today and I can add/remove sports teams and stock tickers w/o a problem!
Many thanks again to the contributors to this thread.

[Q] Bought n9002 in China, Google play still won't work after rooting

Hi guys, so I bought a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 n9002 in China not long ago, and after returning to Australia recently I still cannot use Google play or any other Google system apps. The main problem I'm having is that I can't seem to log into my account in any Google apps, not even my chrome etc. It keeps saying there is an error connecting with Google servers.
I rooted my phone today by following steps from this very website, since I read that many people had the same problem as me, but after rooting their phone according following CA steps, they were then successful in installing all the Google Apps.
I guess I'm just confused as to why I can't seem to get my phone working when I did what others did.
Just wondering if anyone out there can maybe shed some light on what else I can do to get my Google services to work.
Thanks a lot!
Different rom?

Hm... maybe you're using China firmware and it is blocking Google? They don't like people being able to get unrestricted access to the world so I'd bet on them making sure Android doesn't allow it for China ROM's. You might have to work out how to flash open firmware, which could mean problems with PIT partitions so read up first.
Is the firmware you used a special edition which is blocking Google service?
Delete hosts file in etc folder

just got another update B575

This morning after I woke up I got a warning an update was available. I was on B573 before. Updated but have no idea what the changelog is. If anybody can help, please see attached screeenshot.
Mate 8 AL10
Had you had Google Play store authentication issues for apps you had never installed prior but wanted to try on 573? This seems to be an issue many of us are having with 7.0 on Mate 8 so far.....curious if its fixed by 575 somehow....even though doubting its a priority on Chinese AL10.

No issues before none now.
OK...yeah...I have a feeling a full reset without restoring apps and data would fix the issue...but I didn't want to have go through the whole google the phone and reinstall everything routine. I did have to reset to get to nougat....but just restored apps and data with hisuite.
Looks like it's some optimization changes. I haven't received it yet on my B573, hopefully soon. Battery life seems quite bad right now. Looking through the forums with google translate, people seem to like it so far. One person mentioned wifi was a lot better, which is great as it got really choppy from 562 to 573.
Google translate of the changelog:
[optimization]
to optimize system performance and stability, make your phone run more smoothly, stable and optimized power consumption of mobile phone performance, extended battery life
optimization parameters holster screen brightness so that the brightness of the display screen more comfort
[repair]
repair Taobao application text input dialog occlusion problems
fix problems call recording can not add the specified contact
repaired HuaweiShare open WLAN download rate reduction problem
fixes some scenes outgoing calls can not be a problem

Mine works most of the time, but I find that when you try to download something that prompts you to download wifi it gives the error. Can you try installing an app like Dawn of Titans or Drift Legends? Those are two that gave me the error whereas I could install many other apps no problem. You don't have download the whole thing. If the download starts then it's working for you. It usually gives the error right after you click Install in the play store.

EMUI never played well with Google services anyway.
My Android Wear would disconnect all the time.
What I have noticed with this whole Google playstore authentication issue is, wait a couple of hours, attempt to redownload the app and it'll download.
It's not a big deal. I wish my Google contacts' photos would sync and all, but meh.
What I am hoping for is the stable version will resolve all these Google issues.

Same for me....must not be that.
Have found if I install an app on the desktop play store website..it immediately acts like it has sent it to phone....and eventually after much time it either finally downloads and installs or allows you to do it from the playstore app. But if its an app you have never tried prior you basically HAVE to goto the desktop play store and send to phone to get it to eventually work. Once its been used once you can uninstall and reinstall like normal from playstore app later without the authentication issues. If its an app you have used prior...just not recent or even ever on the Mate 8 they will work like normal....this is only issue with app you have never touched EVER from the playstore.
me too I got a warning new update( B575) was available. I was on B573 before
i will download it and try i hope it solve my big issue regarding the google authentication
( which can not be solved neither by factory reset nor by delete account and clear cash or clear data or even uninstall and re install google play store or any google apps !)
my device is huawei mate 8 Chinese version NXT-AL100

Weird, I've never has such problems.
I got the update for B575 and tried to download a few apps and it didn't seem to have the auth problem..Not sure what changed. Can anyone give me an example of an app they couldn't install? I want to test it more..
The Google issue only happens when I want to install an app I've never installed before.
Using Android device locator, Google is unable to locate my device. My find 7 and Nexus 7 is fine.
Definitely a emui nougat issue.

Axon 7 MiFavor5.0 A2017V2.0.0B08 (Chinese) many issues

I've just upgraded my Chinese Axon 7 to MiFavore5.0. And it has some bugs associating with google apps especially google play games, it doesn't sync and it is stuck on this page(see screenshot) . Another issue is that if you go to settings/google/sign in and security it gives this error(second screenshot). Please help if you know how to fix these issues.(I have reset factory both before and after the update, and I have also enabled auto run for all google apps in MiAssitant as I always do)
These are the screenshots.

No way this is gonna work. Seriously it has syncing problems with some google apps such as Chrome, Play Games and this is really a shame for ZTE for such a messed up updated the so called MiFavor 5. They'd better release another update soon and fix this.

Why do you think it is a problem of the update though?? I had trouble with GApps on B01 and B06, and I could fix them on both. They stop working all of a sudden, sometimes after a reboot one will get frozen... it's because it's a Chinese ROM.
Try reinstalling it from zero and see if the problem is still there. The way to solve it is that one.

I've already reset factory twice and installed them again , the issue still resists. This update according to its release note was supposed to be more and better optimize with google apps but it just messed the hell out of them

Play Store 404 on AL00 Oreo

Is anyone else getting 404 error recently on Play Store on Chinese Devices (AL00C00 here) and has found a solution? I know at east one other person who has the same issue and there is a thread here of more people having similar issues, some non-Huawei but apparently all on Chinese devices: https://forums.androidcentral.com/htc-10/867051-error-404-downloading-play-store.html
Update: The issue is getting some publicity now: https://www.techmesto.com/google-play-store-download-error-404/
Same issue
I have tried everything since last Friday. Last night, I reset my phone... Unfortunately--I shall have a lot to copy to and install on my phone. Just now, I saw your post and the links. Google support did their best to help me, to no avail. I contacted Huawei, but they haven't responded yet.
Thank you for posting this, just while I was wondering desperately, What next?
Hope we are given a solution very soon.
Fixed
Ok, it works for me now after installing manually the latest Play Store app from apkmirror (8.8.12). It may be coincidental with a fix on Google Server side because even with that it took me a few attempts.

I already had this up-to-date version. Yes, as you say it works randomly, showing a slight improvement...
same problem
i'm getting the same 404 errors from installing/updating some apps.
Plus a error message "server response error" pops up on the bottom from time to time, not sure what app/service is causing it.
And both of my Google calendars won't sync.
It appears to be fixed completely now.
