Op3t blasted!? - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

OP3T blasted? Yes in Mumbai, India. Hard to believe but it's true..
Check this out..

You mean spontaneously exploded.
Well for one, it's a Facebook post. There may be pictures, but we cannot confirm how the device was taken care of. For all we know, the user may have kept the device somewhere like a car dashboard and drove while it was being exposed to high heat from the sun, and that may have damaged the battery.
Secondly, Li-Po batteries are prone to exploding even after a hard drop. That's the issue with them. But I don't think it is a repeated issue, as most of us are nearing our two year mark with this device, and this is only one report out of hundreds of thousands of devices.
If it is a device fault, then it should've happened earlier and to many others, like another famous OEM's device *cough*. This is most probably the fault of the victims due to bad device handling.
But still, after seeing this post, I am beginning to look at my phone warily, hoping it doesn't go all Fat Boy on me.

nicely said.
people only want to criticise every phone on the market so dont know if its true and how it was taken care of. so happy to see that someone thinks like u and does ot blame the oem without having any solid proof that its their fault

I don't see any criticism from the OP, so is good that he just posted this news.

I wasn't dissing OP though, I was saying that our devices are safe, since this isn't a device wide issue.

Lol... It's just FYI post..

my 3t is blasting from the first day on very powerful

As a 3t user, I very well know how good is the heat management in 3t. It is relatively cool while charging as compared to other fast charging phones out there in market.
"If you dip your phone in water and then will try to charge then most probably it will blast"
Handling is very important in any electronic device.
First of all, oneplus must postmarton the device to come to any conclusion.

SGS3 Broken Device's thread

Saw a few threads about broken devices so I figured I'd try to get everyone to post in one thread to help me decide if this phone can survive me lol. This is for keeping track of what seems to break the most. Please try to keep questions out and use the format below.
Samsung Galaxy S III
Version: (USA or international)
Color:
Case: ( type of case, or " no case")
Cause of damage: (drop from x height etc)
Damage location: (frnt/bck/side/screen)
Picture of damage:
Or people could take better care of their phones rather than deliberately putting them to the test to see if Gorilla Glass is all that good or dropping them from a height!, its a phone not a bullet-proof vest! Pointless thread! All these people seem to be having problems with their phones but mine has been absolutely tip top! I cannot fault it! But people nit pick about the stupid things!

I know how to take care of a phone, so do most. Accidents happen. I, as well as many others I'm sure, have placed a phone in what we thought was a safe spot, and still had it fall, or someone else accidentally knocks it down. I have a 3 year old. I'd love to see you hand a phone to a small child and have them not drop it. Or have it slide out of a pocket. Thanks for playing.

People aren't nit picking, some people have legitimate claims. It's a phone and believe it or not, accidents do happen.
This is where we've reached, fan boys actually blaming the consumer now for accidentally dropping their phone's, instead of blaming the real culprit.

Who's the genius that would hand a 700$ phone to a 3 year old in the first place?
That would be no accident, it would mean the parent is missing more than a couple of braincells.

our little girl plays learning games on both mine and the lady's phone, along with grandma's tablet. All three of the devices have more than stood up to the task. She's only dropped the tablet once, neither phone yet. Also, not everything is out of reach to the little one. Sometimes I'll set it on the wide arm of the couch to charge while I sit there. If I get up, I'm not going to Unplug it just to get a drink in the next room. At $300+ and listed as a " solid, sturdy, durable etc" product, you expect it to withstand a drop or two. My Droid X has been knocked off counters and such by friends( where it SHOULD be safe), dropped by myself, I've gotten hung up in the charger cord once despite my best effort to keep it out of the way, pulling my phone with it. Hit bumps in a vehicle dumping it from the car holder, as it clicked into place, but didn't actually secure. I've had coolant and other automotive fluids spilled on me, or splash onto my phone etc. I was using the LED light to find small puddles in the basement once, dropped it into the water after tripping over something I didn't see, its worked its way out of my deep side pocket while I ran once, fell onto my foot and got kicked across the ground. I don't keep it there anymore but the pocket was 3" deeper than the phone, should have been secure. Point is, you can't predict everything around you, or control it. Accidents happen regardless unless you move like a turtle, even then it may still happen. So can we lose the stupid and stay on topic please?

Still, it is a 3 year old. Why don't you just get her a cheap tablet of her own to remove your expensive phones out of the equation?
Also, even though the rest was painfully hard to read, (wall of text) I still did and I agree that devices should be build more sturdily when they cost 300+$.
Accidents happen in life, but we can do things to avoid them and minimize the damage.

+1.....close the pointless thread! £4 a month for phone insurance! You pay $6-700 for the galaxy s3 which is a highly sought after phone and people are giving it to toddlers, and just breaking it out of their own stupidity! I can't recall a time when I've ever dropped my phone, take better care of your phone or wipe the butter from your fingers!

no it doesn't, it boils down to accidents happen. I was working on gathering insurance information from different companies to post along with parts links etc. There are already several threads about broken devices. Once again proving your a bunch of ****ing idiots. This will be the last thread I post here. Pretty pathetic considering its my first, and not one God damn person could post on topic.
Best part is, you guys keep bumping the thread to the top just to say its pointless. That makes perfect sense.

Well stop making pointless threads then! With people giving advice on how not to break your device.....simple, take better care of it and stop being stupid! What does other peoples broken devices have to do with you? Unless your saying that you personally broke them? My very good experience with HTC customer care in Europe

Hey guys,
About 3 months ago I purchased an HTC One as I admired the level of craftsmanship put into the device. Unfortunately, the first device came with a minor protrusion of the screen at the top right corner. Because that point is exactly where a right handed person touches the phone to access the notification bar. I tried to return the phone but unfortunately my provider would not take it back and give me another, as it had been a little over 14 days since I had purchased it.
I went ahead and contacted htc customer care, who went out of their way to make an RMA for me and took care of the replacement process. I was very grateful, but unfortunately the second phone that arrived had also a cosmetic fault, a discoloration of the back of the phone that was apparent under mild light conditions.
Again I contacted HTC who replaced the second phone as well without causing me any further trouble. The next phone that arrived turned out to be fine. As originally disappointed as I was by the relatively poor manufacturing control of the early HTC one phones, the customer care of HTC completely won me over with their supportive stance and I felt it's worth writing a few words about. The morals of the story are, firstly that you shouldn't accept a device you're not happy with (especially at this price range!), but also that it's not just the product at hand, but the after sales care that matters too.

I find this quite incredible, given my, still ongoing experience of HTC UK. What a difference. Checkout my UK experience.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425001
I must re-iterate that I WAS a HTC fan, and have had excellent service from HTC UK previously when I owned a desire, but my recent experience is appalling. Being a fan I wanted the HTC One. I also previously authored threads detailing how great HTC repair were when I had problems with my desire.
I am somewhat relieved that there is good service elsewhere. I have exchanged tweets with HTC senior execs with regards my HTC experience and have a personal commitment to action it (no news yet). I'll tweet this thread to him also. Take a look at the pics of my "repaired" device delivered yesterday from uk repair. Thanks for the thread. I was sure that this was a UK specific problem, and it appears it is.

I totally agree you should fight but its inappropriate to fight at every single xda thread as its not htc official forum. He should probably lodge a consumer complaint if they he not satisfied. He must blog about it but thats not a way to go in everywhere and say its happening like this. And i paid full 43000INR thats 720$. That too i didnt get money from dad it was my 2years savings from pocket money. Flaming every thread will not offer you solution to your problem.

The One X had a major design flaw, though only apperant after prolonged usage and only with people with fitting jeans but in all honesty the crap people are giving for these minor gaps/misaligments is just absurd, no other phone is looked at under such aesthetic scrutiny and almost no one would notice unloess you visited a forum like XDA
If you bought a One you must like HTC in some way but then to demand like an x number of exchanges until the gaps are truely microscopic will drive the company which makes the phones you like to bankrupcy...

Google has had a free pass long enough.

I hope you guys are paying attention to how they are handling this defect.....IGNORE IT.
I would advise to never buy from a company who ignores or runs from problems.

Mine does have this annoying touch problems, and it's really annoying. Yours fine? Good, please don't disrespect others complaint if yours "fine".
This is the kind of thing I don't understand, someone does a thread of the issue/news on it and suddenly comes people with their "fine" product and post how "fine" theirs are or/and that they don't care.
If your Nexus is "fine", then no need to read about it, enjoy it, but there are a lot of us who got a bad unit, I can't return it because it started after the 15 days of return warranty, so I'm stuck with it.

Yup, and the 15 day return period is a joke as well.
All defects should be covered by a free replacement warranty equal to the product warranty.....NOT REPAIR...and the customer should not pay a dime for shipping.
At least one year......after the way Google has handled this they should extend the free replacement warranty to 3 years. (Yeah right)
I'm not buying an Asus device again that's for sure, at least not until the product is well tested...

I'm done with them too. They gave me the run around so bad I'm still dizzy.....

Please don't disrespect us who have perfectly working products by only calling out those who have issues.
Mine works fine.
I'm not sure if 7 people in that thread is really Google taking a beating. Also, it really isn't Google's problem. It is Asus'. How many tablets were sold vs how many have the issue. I got mine on launch day and no issue. I've had to send a few different items back to Asus in the past and had to pay shipping every time, but then again, $7 for shipping vs having to buy a new item is ok in my eyes. What a gimme gimme gimme world we live in.

Next time, read well before quoting something directed to another user. I was specifically quoting him for saying that most of the complaints were exagerated, were a touch problem on a touch screen device is definitely not exagerated, besides how could you know if your device is working "fine". My quote wasn't directed at you, not interested in continuing this.

"A gimme gimme world!!" - You are a corporations dream come true!!!
I paid for a defective product and in my business, I take care of my customers who receive defects.
You are SO wrong.
Such a "gimme gimme world" that I just spent money on a new tablet that actually WORKS!!! Nobody gave it to me!! IMAGINE THAT. I spent my hard earned dollars and received a functioning product - WOW!! What a novel concept.
No need to be a prick.....and you were one.
I currently have a mild problem with the touch, it's not as bad as some but its still annoying. Has anyone who has rooted and installed a custom rom experience the touch problem go away?

You use the word "so" where he uses "and". Two very different words and uses. I'm sorry if someone close has developed some form of cancer but don't bring it to an Android forum...:good:
Edit: Google isn't taking near the beating as you nay sayers lol
Mine's been working fine with no issues *knocks on wood*. I got it at launch. I don't expect any device to launch without issues but maybe it's just me. I'm not seeing this as a common widespread issue.

Okay replace and with so, my point still stands.
I also don't see how my analogy would be offensive to someone who knows someone with breast cancer so don't turn it into that, you also don't make the rules so I'll bring it up if I want to.

Yup.
My touchscreen was mildly effected also. Mostly the missing touch problem when not holding the device (ie: sitting on a table or such).
Rooted using the forum tutorials, installed sfhub's ts10 update and the touchscreen works fine now. No skips, no missing or ghost touches.
For the record, I've only been using android for about 2 weeks now so it's not that hard to learn how to apply the fix that worked on mine.
Now, should an end user have to do you this to their device? Nope, it should come this way. For mine it was such an easy fix, it would seem they have no excuse for not designing the software properly in the first place.
I quite like the rest of the devices features (ie: nice screen, battery life, speed, just right size for book reading and fitting in my coat pocket, etc) and it's quickly becoming a favorite device of mine.
As to those saying thiers works fine, I think they are valid comments. Not all the devices are effected and as is normal with human behavior, those that feel "screwed" are often the ones who are the loudest. Not that they're not justified in being upset with getting a "broken" product, they are.
But it is equally valuable to hear from those that get products that work.
How else are we going to know if there are more bad than good if we don't also hear from "the good"?

You're absolutely right: I don't make the rules and you can bring it up if you want to. I was simply suggesting that life and death disease analogies can always offend Someone and might be a little overboard on an Android forum.
You would need to replace so with and. He was making two separate points and connecting with the word and, while you are expressing cause-effect with so (should be used in conclusion). Though due to ambiguity I could be completely wrong. You brought up logic. I just thought it would be easier for two rational human beings to get to the same spot.
And my G2 screen is wonkier than my Nexus 7. Turning it off and back on seems to solve it though.
Guys, let's not argue about whether what's important to one is also important to you. Everyone has their own opinion. It looks like enough people are upset about the issues, and that is a fact.
I am one of those people. After devs here on XDA put together near perfect AOSP roms for my ThunderBolt, I expected stuff coming out of Google directly to be rock solid. N7 is my first Nexus device, and I am quite disappointed with regular random reboots that I still have, as well as intermittent touch screen issues. For example, I can't play Subway Surfers since N7 keeps ignoring some portion of screen touches (leading me to crash lol).
My HTC DNA, however, is rock solid on the stock rom. Why can't a Nexus device be the same? People typically complain of manufacturers adding stuff to android that makes it worse. Well, I am not so ready to say that now. As far as I am concerned, HTC is doing a better job with their devices than Google.
PS, TB was buggy when it came out, but all the bugs were subsequently fixed, even on Verizon!

Note 7 to Iphone 7 with Tmobile

this is just a little info i want to pass along that i learned from tmobile today. it's not meant to be an iphone vs. samsung thread.
i talked to a couple different reps today and they all told me the same thing. if you have a note 7 you can exchange it for an iphone 7 next friday. you cant do the pre-order because they would need to get the note 7 from you first before doing the iphone exchange. so you just take your note 7 into a tmobile store next friday and they will reimburse you for everything you paid for with the note 7 and you will even get your jump back. at that time you use the reimbursement to pay for the iphone 7 and use the jump that you just got back.
just wanted to pass along some info in case anyone else was wondering.
I'm pretty sure most people know this but thanks anyway. You can exchange it for any phone you want, no reason they would exclude the new iPhone. This is exactly what I plan on doing, I will be at the store at 10am on release day! Figured this is the best time for me to try out a iPhone, the timing is just to coincidental lol.
And, why downgrade to IPhone 7! Smh

Let's use a little common sense when posting about an Iphone in a android based community. Honestly not many people in here would even care about that and to top it off why go to a phone that does less than what you have now. I know I know it blows up but you do know your chances of getting hit by a car are greater than your phone blowing up right now. I bet you still go outside and drive a car or get on a plane, etc..... You people kill me.
Thanks for the info but I dont see how this is the place for it. also, this was not a bashing post....
Thinking about going back to iPhone as well. I shouldn't have to compromise settings just for this phone to work.
As an Android/Samsung Fanboy it's a damb shame to have to go through all this.
The 6s Plus NEVER gave me any problems. Even with 2gb of RAM, it NEVER lagged. Hell, the battery was hard to kill with heavy usage (4hrs of youtube background play, fb, text, browsing XDA, etc).
I'm trying to give Sammy a chance but damn.. hopefully the results of these replacements can change my mind.

I think better comparison would be driving and texting or being distracted by phone in general: the same people panicking about faulty batteries think nothing of using the phone while driving and I'm guilty as well, just glanced at the map to check traffic ahead, same time as the guy in front stand on breaks, I barely stopped without hitting him and I drive a lot with years of experience. Probably more than 500 people die each yr. because of phone distractions. My phone charging station is on marble table in kitchen for years (convenience of multiple outlets at above waste level), accidently right next to smoke detector. Most likely it would be non event for me even if it burned to crisp. I put my life in much bigger danger when I'm cooking, but that's another story. As a side note advice, for those interested to buy iphone7, get iphone 6 instead put the tape on headphone jack and viola, you got iphone 7, you can thank me later.
Yeah but then they will lose out on the new shiny black one
Just placed an order for the jet black and was told it would be shipping in NOV lol, so i don't know what ever comes first new Note 7, V20 or iphone
Considering that the Note 7 is the most expensive phone T Mobile sells, it seems obvious that you would be able to exchange it for ANY other phone they sell.

Thanks for the info, I've been trying to the same, got no help at the store, went through 4 phone reps who refused to do it, and finally one gave in and pre ordered them for us. Wish they would've told us that we can just go get them at the store on Friday. They're saying that the phone is already sold out and that be shipments would come out in October or November

Bootloop issue on Nexus 6P

There was an article today on xda that talked about a class action lawsuit against LG because multiple phones they make are going into a boot loop of death--sound familiar? The problem is defective solder that can't withstand the heat the phone generates and, over time, separates a connection to the motherboard. The problem with the 6P is almost certainly the exact same. That means there is likely nothing a 6P owner can ultimately do to prevent the boot loop of death from eventually happening to their phone. The simple act of charging the phone with the quick charge function makes the phone quite warm. On top of that (for those on stock) since the January OTA Google has been defaulting the stock kernel settings to those for high performance, which not only is causing battery drain that some users have been complaining about but also makes the phones run much warmer. This means the 6P will likely die even faster.
For some of us this was a 600-700 phone purchased new and (mine is a 128gig model) and for that money, it's not unreasonable to expect a phone to last for longer than 12-18 months, which is probably going to turn out to be the ultimate lifespan for these things.
I'm curious if anybody else has any thoughts on this situation. To my mind, both Google and Huawei knew that these phones were defective and should have recalled them. Instead, they are riding out the warranty and when the phone inevitably breaks telling owners that they are SOL.
Does anyone think it would be worthwhile for Nexus 6P owners to file a class action lawsuit against Google and Huawei or do you think it would be a waste of time? Are you OK buying a supposedly premium phone that likely won't last a full two years?

I wouldn't know where to start and don't know any lawyers. But I seriously doubt that very many 6Ps will still be running by the time they are two years old. Shortly after a year seems to be when it's happening for a lot of people. I baby my phone but I still expect it to be dead by fall because my warranty expires in July. Currently I'm on Project Fi, which I like. That means I'll either have to buy a Pixel which is overpriced and apparently very difficult to root and mod or switch to another carrier so I can get something like a One Plus which is easy to root and mod and has a vibrant developer community. I'm not happy that I spent so much on this phone and it likely won't last two years. I have much older, far cheaper smartphones that still function fine. My Galaxy 3 still works perfectly. But this phone was apparently built like crap and nobody seems to want to hold Google and Huawei responsible for that.
Not sure where this will go, but I'm a 6P owner and watching the situation closely in these places:

By the way... Every week there are new users reporting the same issue. I don't count those who also open new threads in Q/A section...
This is getting crazy. Seeing LG is now sued, it gives at least some hope that something will be done with Huawei.
How much people have a nice brick now?! And Google/Huawei who tell them since their warranty ended a few days/weeks/months ago, they won't fix their device. Though some had exceptions and have had their device replaced/repaired, others pay for a motherboard replacement. A Device that already costed them 700$ or more and now the repair!
Also some people kept harassing Google/Huawei because the first person they called didn't accept to replace/repair their device. They tried again and after 2 or 3 calls they finally successed! Isn't it crazy?! Like if you give up at first try, you're just fuxxed...
Though with all this, you're not even sure it won't fail anymore. As they didn't acknowledge the issue, nor they did state they took measures to fix the problem...
I haven't experienced the issue yet, but the phone is exactly one year old. My wife uses it now since i upgraded. It's just boring to backup photos every few days, fearing it suddenly breaks!
They deserve a little punishment in my opinion.

I'd like to think that Huawei/Google would step up and at least offer a 50% disc on new device or 50% refund on bricked 6Ps. Anything other than, SORRY, it's out of warranty (even though thousands of devices are having the same issue)...

Thanks. It would be nice if companies were held to some quality of manufacture law for things like this that happen after the warranty period. It's as if they think "we only have to make it last ONE YEAR, then it can fall apart after the warranty is over"... When thousands of devices are having similar issues, that's not just a coincidence!

I'd like to think that Huawei/Google would step up and at least offer a 50% disc on new device or 50% refund on bricked 6Ps. Anything other than, SORRY, it's out of warranty (even though thousands of devices are having the same issue)...

It always reminds me of the Samsung TVs case: https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-settlement-warrants-older-tvs-with-faulty-capacitors/
They accepted to fix the faulty units and extended the warranty. If you read the post till the end though, this is the best part:
"Samsung officially denies the complaints in the suit"
Although they denied their TVs having a problem, they knew they would loose sooner or later. So they just they settled the lawsuit to avoid further costs. This is no rocket science...
For me, this is called programmed obsolescence. A technic widely used by almost all electronic devices manufacturers these days. Huawei should replace faulty motherboards. No matter how old those are! And extend the warranty on the new hardware.
Cheers...
It feels like i paid for a Premium brick costing 700 dollars!
Well, I too, am in the bootloop of death club... Here's my story if anyone wants a read.

Guess I'll try my luck with Huawei and see what they say.

Does anyone think it would be worthwhile for Nexus 6P owners to file a class action lawsuit against Google and Huawei or do you think it would be a waste of time? Are you OK buying a supposedly premium phone that likely won't last a full two years?

So I just got off the phone with Huawei and unfortunately I am 4 months out of warranty. Said I can send it in to fix it and they'll let me know how much its gonna cost. I am so pissed right now. This is ridiculous. They're blaming the latest 7.1.2 update from Google and how it's not just the 6p it's affecting...hmmm Who's telling the truth?

I understand you. Even though I haven't got the issue yet and since my wife takes a lot of pics with (my ex) her N6P, i have to backup up almost every day. Doing this since the beginning of this issue. It's really boring.
I wish you luck! Try contacting Huawei again. Hopefully you'll talk to another tech who'll acknowledge the issue and will repair/replace.your phone. Don't give up!.
Or else, fill the lawyer's survey! :good:
PS: Huawei blamed first 7.0 update, then 7.1 and now 7.1.2. lol...
Good luck...

Well I was so frustrated that I went ahead and ask them to go ahead and send me the stuff needed to send it back. Hopefully whenever it gets there, I can speak with someone else and talk them into fixing it for free. Thanks.

Ah...
Keep harassing them until they repair/replace your device free of charge!
Good luck...
Add Me to the growing list
Yep, my 6p- Aluminum 32GB phone had the problem. Same issue plaguing others too, infinite bootloop. Android Recovery Mode doesn't fix it, nothing does.
I sent it to Huawei on 3/10/17 and its now 4/14/17 and they still haven't given me back the phone. The message they give me is "the phone is fixed and is just waiting to be shipped"..... yeah sure I have been told this 4 time since 3/24/17, an ETA please? No, no ETA. You start to get suspicious the second time around and downright furious on the 3rd......and 4th time 21 FREAKING DAYS LATER. Had it escalated today 4/14/17. Hoping for the best:laugh::laugh:yeah no I'm not. Lawsuit time?
