VOLTE & WIFI Calling after Carrier Switch - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S8+ Guides, News, & Discussion

Just wanted to save some a little time after I spent a few days pulling my hair out over this. (credit to
If you've carrier switched, ie flashed AT&T's firmware on a non-AT&T device) to take advantage of the bloat, VOLTE and WIFI calling it is important that your IMEI matches an AT&T S8 on your account.
[MOD EDIT: REDACTED] ... I was unsuccessful after several attempts to get it to work. When trying to enable WIFI calling without a AT&T S8 IMEI on your account, you may be greeted with the error message that states something is wrong and to call them. VOLTE will simply not work.
The fix: [MOD EDIT: REDACTED], reboot and profit!
I've confirmed on both Nougat and Oreo.
There are quite a few mentions of this buried in the Snap+ Guide started by Mike15678 located here

I can certainly understand your position on that. I will say that times have changed and the use of the IMEI is for handset identification these days. It's primarily used for provisioning device specific features and tracking devices on the EIP programs. One could purchase a blocked device and update their account with the blocked IMEI number use the carrier switched device (Sprint) and the phone service would still work.
Morality aside, my goal of this post was to inform others of what's required to get the advanced services functioning.

This is theft pure and simple. [MOD EDIT: REDACTED]

Times may have changed, but XDA's position on IMEI fraud have not. Discussing IMEI fraud of any kind is not tolerated on XDA.

It's possible IMS Settings could have that purpose, I've seen mention of it in regard to some T-Mobile devices however IMSLogger+ has no known function whatsoever, it's simply an app called logger that has access to everything you do and everything your id does in relation to your device. As far as I can tell there is absolutely no cost in disabling this application so until someone can identify a function that requires this to be enabled, it's simply common sense to do so.
Further, and I have no idea if it's relevant or not, but even it's naming convention is different from the other associated applications:
com.sec.ims 1.0
IMS Service 1.0
IMS Settings 1.0
com.sec.imslogger 1.20150211_LDM
I understand I'm offering an incomplete picture here, but our corporate 'benefactors' have a long history of being as shady as they possibly can be until they are caught and then they just try something else... Our data is a commodity resource to these people so they'll do what they can to acquire it.
In the end it's a question of trust. I don't, so I uninstalled it, but I wanted to pass on the information should anyone else want to do the same.
Another NSA feature for the American fellows.
Besides imslogger+, I also have "silentlogging 1.01" in my Singapore device. Anyone knows what is "silentlogging" for?

I've seen one post saying it's part of Kernal Management and a normal function of the phone however I've seen a hundred posts saying the package has been safely disabled or uninstalled without any discernible impact on device functionality. If anyone has an idea what this app does, I'd welcome any insight offered.

If your country or carrier doesn't have VoLTE then you won't have it enabled on your phone, that's why you can't find it.
EDIT:
You can check here if your carrier has it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VoLTE#Deployment
So far it's only launched in Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, and USA. But even in those countries, only a few carriers have it.
Good old NSA must have had something worked out with Samsung. I bought mine in Hung Coc* as well and it too came with this IMSlogger as well that has and asks for every permission you never even thought about. No uninstall option either.
Every permission possible has been ticked by developer.

Silent Logging is not turned on by default that's why it's safe to disable.
From the looks of it, it logs diagnostic info from the cell modem. I think it's only ever used for diagnostic purposes though and is not ever turned on normally. You can enable in Service Mode or if you set system property dev.silentlog.on set to "on".
If you don't have any of the log files at:
Code:
/data/log/Slog_ril_xxxxx.log
/data/log/Slog_main_xxxxx.log (where xxxxx is the time the log got saved)
Or the config file at:
Code:
/data/slog/SilentLog
...then you don't have Silent Logging running.
As for IMSLogger, it doesn't look nefarious. It is for VoLTE though, so has anyone tried if VoLTE still work when you have IMSLogger disabled/deleted. Mind you, VoIP or Skype or any other IP/SIP over wifi or LTE is NOT VoLTE (VoLTE is specifically optimised for voice using IMS whereas none of the others are). So to test, make sure you are actually using VoLTE (and that you have it enabled in your carrier plan) and not some other VoIP solution.
It's LMS Logger
And it stands for LetMeSpy I found it on my phone as well
IMSLogger+ is used by Samsung engineers to get the processor logs and interfaces logs from the phone for debugging purposes. In Engineering firmwares it can export the IP traces in PCAP format and it has a nice interface to see all the VoLTE/SIP messages in real time. Basically it can log all the calls signalization, excluding the voice packets.
It's launched from the IMS Settings application that is used to customize VoLTE/VoWIFI/RCS parameters for each operator.
By default the IMSLogger+ doesn't log anything, Below you have a movie done from my rooted Samsung S6 Edge G925F that shows how to launch the application. I'm sure IMSLogger+ can be disabled without any impact to VoLTE. Maybe Samsung should have done it from the very beginning.

Note 4 - How to deactivate the "Reactivation lock"?

So to make it clear, I can log in to my account, and I can use my phone.
Only on 5.1.1 though, on Marshmallow I am stuck at the setup screen, it won't accept my password.
Since the lock can be bypassed with that sd card exploit, I don't really care about it, it's just a hassle, and currently it's preventing me from using Marshmallow*.
Ok so here is what I tried:
- Marshmallow: The login window opens, I enter details, it disappears: LOCK STAYS ON.
- Lollipop 5.1.1: -||-: Same thing. LOCK STAYS ON.
- Removed Samsung account, remade with same credentials, tried it again: LOCK STAYS ON.
- Removed Samsung account, tried to unlock: LOCK STAYS ON.
- Removed Samsung account, remade it, factory reset, log in, remove: LOCK STAYS ON.
I am pretty much clueless.
As far as I know 5.1.1 upgraded the bootloader or something - so it said in the update notes - so I cannot really go just back to 4.4 and try it there... can I... ? I don't want to trip my KNOX.
* I had MM already, but I messed up my layout when I was tinkering with Adaptive Storage, and had to factory reset.
Try a reset with Kies or Odin?
any update on this one? I have the same problem with my note 4. Also, you cannot downgrade from 5.1.1 to any lower firmware if you're on COJ5 bootloader since it's locked.

Nothing, I flashed back the XEO 5.1.1, then logged in, flashed MM Poland and I am at the same spot again.
Contacted Samsung at the Samsung Account page. They replied that I have to contact the other team.
Contacted "the other team", but never received a reply.
Meanwhile my Z3 Compact got Sony Concept which is a beautiful AOSP like rom.
Why can't they just make normal Nexus devices? (Removable devices, SD card, etc)
I have the same problem too did you ever get it fixed or did samsung reply

Neither, sadly.
I contacted them, but only the wrong department replied... never received a 'proper answer' from them.
I just went back to LL 5.1.1, logged in (only version it works), then I flashed MM (PL) 6.0.1 on it.
same problem here. I hope someone gets a fix for this.

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
We have investigated this situation and, if you are sure that your Samsung Account password is correct, and no sign in error is displayed on the screen, it means that it can be related to a software/settings issue.

sprint voicemail on the 935U software

Hey, any of you root people, could you pull the voicemail apk off your phone so I can use it with my flashed universal phone? Have tried the s6 edge software but no go. Thank you
This is simple through titanium backup. No one?
The one on official firmware will not install correctly. But this is an older one that works. Download and install like normal.

Yes.
Thanks again seems to be working
Once you set up, it may take a while to actually activate. I just left the app, came back to it 5-10 min later, and it was running normally.
Ya took me almost an hr. Worked well though. Downloaded many that didn't work. Just needed 1 that did.
It doesn't appear to actually work. You all just think it is.
If you leave a vm it wont download it (or mine doesn't seem to).
If you go into settings and pref, it shows it's not verified still also. You just stopped seeing the prompt because once the screen times out it is no longer on top but if you fully kill the app and re-open it still says verifying.
These are my findings at least? If you go into settings and pref does it say you're verified?
Yeah I couldn't get it to work either
Didn't work for me either
Try this one it worked for me on my unbranded piece o sh!t locked bootloader s7 edge with the added ticking timebomb feature.

Are you sure?
I've got the same issues all the others did. It can't activate. Just because it stops popping it up doesn't mean it's activated now either. That message suppresses after a while.
It seems to tie into something that it and Sprint Zone use from what I can tell and thus why won't work on these non-branded firmwares.
Leave yourself a VM and see if it shows up...
It usually wouldn't go past the account verification at all. I'm not 100 %sure yet. But it did go farther than before and I'm trying it out now to verify. Will get back
If you press home and go back into it the app will hide the message but it still wont work.
I actually found the outbound activation messages in it that are failing to send even.
So this is another bust.
I think our best luck is if someone can either reverse eng. this thing to modify it to not try to use whatever sprint bloat it's looking for or we find what it's looking for and find a way to put it on our phones.
Sadly it's not a new issue. All the Nexus people have had the issue from day 1. And it seems to be only sprint because they won't make a darn public compatible app.
I can't use GVoice as I already use it for a second number and I don't like any of the third party ones that make you use conditional call forwarding to them to do this...
Another question for you all. I've noticed if NO voicemail app is installed I do not get any notification I have voicemails. If I do install one (despite it not working) I get notified because it says pending voicemail download at least.
With no VM App installed are your phones telling you that you got VM?
Yeah same boat here man. Looks like we beating a dead horse
Yea, Sprint should upload visual voicemail to the Play Store like T-Mobile does. So stupid.

[q] zte zmax pro frp bypass?

So I bought a ZTE ZMAX PRO from ebay but the guy didn't mention he still had his google account linked. So when I boot up the phone I get welcomed by the FRP screen. I text the guy and tell him all the problems but he doesn't reply unfortunately. I've tried almost every possible way to bypass the FRP screen but nothing works. I wanted to know what other ways are available so I am able to actually use this phone.

Sorry it took so long to reply, and I'm sure you've already found an answer to this problem, but there is no method currently to bypass FRP. If the seller will not work with you on the issue, I would contact e-Bay and explain the situation. Worst case scenario, you should get a refund from eBay. Hopefully your issue is resolved by this time, or if not, that this helps to resolve it.
How much did you pay for it? I bought mine in metropcs store near me brand new for $122 after tax and everything. This is my fave phone by far. The VR experience in this phone is the awesomest. I would follow the advice of the other poster. I had been a victim of a lying seller too it was on amazon though. I can sell you my samsung on5 if you like? It is in working condition. VERY slightly used. With very slightly used case.
As many have probably already found out there is currently no known proceedure to bypass the FRP on the Zmax Pro If there is then it has not been posted anywhere on the web as of yet...I know this because I have one that is google FRP locked and have read every article and watched every video available and have tried every method out there for every zte phone and nothing works so for the guy or gal out there who does have a method for bypassing the Google FRP I would very much appreciate if you would share it with me I can be reached at [email protected] Please send me any info or links regaurding this issue that will allow me to open this phone ASAP Thanking whoever in advance...
If your phone is 'legit', then the legit way to bypass FRP is either call google, call ZTE and/or call where you bought your phone right? All you need is RECEIPT and they will help you solve your FRP.
I do know the 'pride' you feel though after bypassing FRP yourself. I felt that when I bypass FRP myself on my samsung galaxy ON5. Eventhough I already contacted Samsung and Google and they already gave me an RMA number.
Not worth the headache though. After I bypass FRP on my Samsung, I ditched it and bought Zmaxpro.
It made me not mess with brand new phones though. Guys it really is NOT worth the headache.
At the very least, if you want to mess with these new phones. Research FIRST, if there is an FRP bypass method for it, if not then, why give yourself a headache and an expensive paper weight really?

because you can find em cheaper used.. i bought one frp locked for 40$ but cant bypass it lol its a clean phone and i bought on offerup knowing it was locked..
i also searched before hand and theres 2 methods, one using swyft keyboard the other using dictionary in google keyboard..
however, latest update makes those methods useless..
why post if youre not going to help? telling someone they shouldnt have bought it after the fact is irrelevant..
does anyone know what FTM mode is used for? or if theres any stock firmware images that can be flashed somehow to rollback the security updates?

FRP bypass. Works.
There's a video on this page that shows you how to do it. The guy doesn't say anything in the video so you just have to pay close attention to everything he does and repeat it exactly. I've had a ZMAX PRO that was frp locked for over 2 months. I followed every step closely and now I'm finally able to use it. This really works. Email me at [email protected] and I'll send you the link. They won't let me post it here because I'm a new user.

I've had a ZMAX PRO that was frp locked for over 2 months. I followed every step closely and now I'm finally able to use it. This really works. Email me at [email protected] and I'll send you the link. They won't let me post it here because I'm a new user.

There is another video that shows you how to bypass and remove the frp completely. I tried it and it worked perfectly. Email me and I'll send you the link. They won't let me post it here because I'm a new user.

Tried it works but a lengthy process..its very simple by skipping few steps.......this is what i did and unlocked like a charm...
1) Press two finger on the screen prompting the language option and start...it should open the accesiblity option..click on exit.
2) then try gestures in the screen with an inverted "U" .....it should open the recent app list...(it needs few attempts)
3) on the top of the screen type stock..it will show stock android ...launch it....
4) go to settings ...go down which needs two fingers to swipe down as the accessibility option are still open it...disable the talk back on the accessibility options.
5) go to settings ..apps..on the corner right up..click on system apps..then drag down ..go to lookup apps which needs to force stop and disable..
6) go to settings again go to security ..enable the unknown source option.
7) go to home screen back by recent app button or home screen (Home screen button some time might not work)and open chrome browser...search for test dpc apk...download and install the latest test dpc apk...
8) once installed open the apk ..select as individual owner .1st option then next..then click on add account this will redirect it to adding account which will prompt the google old ID again..
9) click on recent app option and go to settings again ..go backup & Reset ..erase everything...which should reset the phone..by restarting and the ID is gone...(make sure your battery is above 30% inorder to reset.
10) Once reset the phone is set as new device without an ID.
!!!!!!Bingo its done..!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats almost exactly what i did lol.. however in my experience if i did it without turning ADM off the test dpc did not work as intended, it would just reboot the device saying i wasnt admin and Id have to start the process over again

Agreed its your method and i have just worked on your method..without ADM and disabling the Accessibility by going to taptalk option. for me it didnt ask anything as i first disabled the lookup which should stop the Admin request.
All credit goes to you..

Samsung Smart Call being disabled by Carriers

SO SORRY FOR THE LONG POST!!
Hey guys, I've been a long time fan of this site, but have never posted anything. I've been using Samsung phones forever and when Smart Call was added, it was the best. For those who don't know, Smart Call is a Built In feature that integrates with the dialer/ caller Id to help mitigate Spam calls and fraud calls. Its ABSOLUTELY free and works. I have the US Cellular S10+ and this free feature on my $1k phone has been disabled to push their paid feature called Call Guardian on us as well as other carriers doing the same. I can open system files and see that the "program" is there, but like I said it's been disabled somehow through software. This site is home to some of the smartest people out there. Have any of you guys found a way to enable features that Carriers have disabled without flashing (I'd love to but I'm scared I'd brick it). Any ideas or advice would be awesome! Thank you

Other than flashing the U1 firmware that's about it. Since it's a system app that's disabled by your carrier's csc configuration that's your only option.
Thank you for the quick response. That was what I was afraid of. Im pretty tech savvy so I believe I could, it's just I've never attempted to flash a phone before. I've looked online for some how-to info on flashing. Do you have any that you would recommend being a newbie to it?

There is a decent set of instructions here, just ignore step 1 and the fact it's for a different model. Download the modified Odin and U1 branded firmware from this post. Other than that it's pretty much self explanatory. Use your original charging cable to connect your phone to the PC and if you get stuck ask for help in the thread I linked. That's your best bet.
EDIT: Smart Call has a bug too. It disables when you restart your phone sometimes so you will need to re-enable it in the settings menu.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help me!
It's not on the unlocked F either. I was very dissappointed.
I have unlocked s10 sd but I have to re-enable the spam caller ID toggle after every reboot for some reason.

So, I've made a post on the Sprint Community Forum concerning this Smart Call lockout. I'm doing a mix of looking like I tried to research the issue and also rather pointedly not sounding like someone who was installing ROM's on Windows Mobile devices over a decade ago in the hopes that someone at Sprint will promise something they probably shouldn't in print. Maybe they'll get the point that this anti-competitive crap isn't going to fly forever.
For whatever it's worth, the unlocked Canadian version we bought at Best Buy has that feature available and it has remained enabled since first setting up the phone. Couldn't tell you the csc, but a heads up in the event it happens to be helpful somehow.
