Has anyone installed this rom on their U Ultra? - HTC U Ultra Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
So after digging thru the xda forums i found this rom, which combines many other ports ---> https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=818070582850487038
I installed an older version tho and i was wondering if anyone else has installed this on their U Ultra, because i have had many problems with it.
I couldn't get snapchat working for some reason, it just kept crashing. After a few minutes literary the whole OS kept crashing and only a reboot would help, so it was practically unusable. So if anyone has got this ROM working on their U Ultra, please let me know what i'm doing wrong here, any help is appreciated!
Thanks.

Snapchat doesnt work on rooted devices!
You have to unroot this rom and then flash Magisk Manager.
Magisk Manager is a root tool too but this tool hide the root for Google's SafetyNet.
I have flashed it too and it works fine
sry my English is not so good

How do i unroot? I tried thru supersu and nothing happened, tried switch root and nothing helped again.
I'm not that experienced with this.

You can use the original ROM but it was fixed and have Magisk pre installed: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862706240 (I use it too)
Or to unroot your phone you can use the App SuperSu and then you can unroot your phone in the settings of the app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu)
You can unroot your phone with an file manager too:
1. install a file manager what can edit system files like ES File Manager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
(It is better to use it because this tutorial is for ES File Manager)
2. Open the Slide menu
3. Check "root-explorer"
4. Click on "root-explorer" (the text not the slider)
5. Click "Mount as R/W"
6. At "/system" you have to check "R/W"
7. Press ok
8. Tap to the folder "bin"
9. Delete "busybox" (if exists) and "su" maybe there is no folder or file exists if it is like that move to next step
10. Go back to system folder and open "xbin"
11. Delete the files "busybox" and "su"
12. Go back to the system folder and open the folder "app"
13. Delete the file/folder "superuser.apk" if exists
14. Restart your device.

[Q] updating from version 2.3.15 to the latest ota update

i have a rooted droid x running the version above. i am not interested in running custom roms, i just want root so i can run whatever apps i want to. after rooting i downloaded wireless tether and the free version of titanium backup. wireless tether is my only means of connecting my computer to the internet. i ran a complete backup after downloading titanium backup. just messing around one day i removed cardock and blockbuster from the phone. i have restored blockbuster but can not get cardock restored. my phone has downloaded the latest ota update and wants me to install it. from what i have read, i will need cardock restored. is this correct and if so how can i get it back? i am fairly good with a puter but new to android. i rooted using doroot for windows. all help is much appreciated.

2.3.15 is soooo yesterday
look into some deblured Rom's. Easier to get rid of the Crapware with a Rom than one at a time. that could cause other issue.
IMHO there are easier tools to root like 4Zroot.
Your heading in the correct direction keep on reading the threads and different sites.
please read my post again. i am not interested in roms.
Stock apks
www . chadhaney . com / droidXDefault / ( wont allow me to post links) but go there...
Let me know what happens... I'm in the same boat. No roms, just titanium back up and wireless tether ( which I never use ) Titanium Pro allows you to freeze apps so they dont run and you dont have to delete them.
P
According to droid x forums, if your rooted, and have all the original apk/apps on the phone you should be able to update to 2.3.34. Make sure that every setting is stock too. No frozen apps, etc... You will lose root. Then they recommend Z4root to re-root.
Successful install
I was running 2.3.15 rooted, no leak, installed 2.3.34 OTA with no problems.
I used Z4Root 1.3 to re-root my droid x. If you were previously rooted you should select the unroot option from Z4Root first. Phone will restart and then select permanent root. Should be good to go after that...
I did it the hard way... wish I had un-rooted first!
Thanks for helping eyepopper. I downloaded the apk file but it would not install. I assume I need to move it manually but don't know where it goes. The odex file opened when I selected it and looks like code. Not sure how to get it where I need it either. I am using astro for my files.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Are you using the phones browser? Try going the chad website thru the phones browser (I use dolphin browser) download it to the phone. Then run the apk thru the browser, go one step further and make sure that you checked off to allow other non market apps to run in applications. Astro app is the problem most likely.
i am using the stock browser but the page just reloads when i select the apk file and opens a window showing gibberish when i select the odex file. i have the 2 files on my sd card under titanium backup and was able to copy and paste them from /sd/titanium backup to /sd but i can't get them to copy and paste to the system folder or the framework folder. as soon as i leave /sd the paste function grays out. looks like your are the only one willing to help me and i am very grateful for it. i need to go on and get this done and be thru with it so i can enjoy the holidays. can you meet me in a chat somewhere and see if we can get this done? pm me ur info if you can. thanks again...

Ok you will need to connect your phone to your computer. Open a command prompt and type the following commands:
*make sure your phone's usb mode is Charge Only
1) type: Adb devices (make sure your phone gets listed as a device)
2) type: adb shell (press enter)
3) type: su (press enter)
4) type: mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock 4 /system
I'm not sure where you have the cardock.apk on your sdcard, but this next step will require you to know the path to your .apk
5) type: cp /mnt/sdcard/<path to CarDock.apk> /system/app/CarDock/apk
if just on the sdcard then it would be "cp /mnt/sdcard/CarDock.apk /system/app/CarDock.apk
6) type: cd /system/app
7) type: chmod 644 CarDock.apk
8) type: exit
you may need to type exit one more time, but when you return to a normal command prompt, type the following:
adb reboot.
Make sure to take a backup before you do any of this, as if you mess anything up in /system your phone can wind up hosed....
Hope this helps. As a last resort, you could always take a backup of your phone, and then perform the 2.3.15 full sbf and restore the apps that way (make sure to perform a factory reset as well. Then you would be able to perform the OTA update and shouldn't have any problems.
Hope this helps! Lemme know if you need more help.

great post SysAdmin-X, thanks. i haven't used adb manually before but i know if your not careful 1 little missed space or wrong key stroke will mess you up so i opted to go with the post you provided a link for.
i downloaded root explorer and was able to move my files successfully from my sd card to the system apps folder but could not get them to show up afterwards in titanium backup. i figured since they were files i manually removed from tb they were prolly named wrong so to be right i went to this link and downloaded the entire zip. i was then able to place those 2 files in the /system/app folder and after rebooting they showed up in tb. finally...yea!!! ok, i remember reading somewhere they needed to be in the /system/framework folder as well. does anyone know if this is fact? if the update looks for them there and doesn't find them it won't install correctly or at all, so i'm told.

possibly with Root Explorer tool you could change the permissions of the moved apps to rwrr.
this way you phone can see them and use them.
Kdinc is right about changing the permissions using root explorer. Make sure to set the as user: read and write, group: read, and other: read. Should look like this after: rw-r--r--

[Q] Will this work for our WF?

Yeah
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Yes it works with just about every ROM, but, in my view, I can't see any benefit. (I dont play Angry Birds, and, the rest of the games and LWP's don't show any benefit).
How do you do this?
Just flash it like a rom?
Well, that's what I initially did. Flash the ZIP in Post #49 in that thread. But, on reading that complete thread, I guess you have to edit the build.prop file in /system (Using Root Explorer / ADB Push Pull).
However, this is where I cant get it to work. WHenever I add the 2 lines in Root Explorer and Save Changes, the phone reboots. If I use ADB, even after pushing, when I check the same file using build.prop, no changes are visible, (The opengles.version automatically reverts back to 65536 and the line which enabled hardware acceleration of the UI is gone) and, ASI only shows OpenGL 1.0 due to this
Well, I have no idea what I am doing wrong, will try it out again and see..
I'm a newb with this.
Could someone possibly make a bit more explained guide?
Very basic guide:
* Get Root Explorer or any other file manager that can show the root folders
* Open Root Explorer, change permissions on top to R/W (Be very careful after that. Dont delete anything!)
* Locate the file build.prop under /system
* Long Press the file, Select Edit with Text Editor
* Updated: (ADB Commands Copy - Pasted from another post by kevin2516. Thanks mate )
*Make sure ADB is installed on your system and it is working. There are many guides available to install ADB, so I wont be going into that.
*Start Command Prompt (cmd), Browse to your "Tools" folder into your SDK
*Use the ADB Pull Command adb pull /system/build.prop
*This will now be saved to your tools folder. Edit is using Wordpad / Notepad++ (Not Notepad) as follows:
*Locate a line which starts with dalvik. (The first one, there are 3 of them)
Add the following 2 lines before that:
debug.sf.hw=1
ro.opengles.version=65537
* Save it.
* Push it back to System using the ADB Push Command: adb push build.prop /system/build.prop
* Reboot ADB using the adb reboot command
* Then, grab the Flashable Zip in that thread from Post #48
* Flash it as normal
Done.
Check whether it is implemented or not by going to Android System Info > System Tab > OpenGL. Here, there are 2 OpenGL versions. The first line should say 1.1, and the second should say OpenGL 1.0 ES.
With S-On you cannot change the systemfile directly I think. Thats the reason why your system not keep the change. I have write by myself a little install zip and flash it with nandroid and it works. the zip only works with wildpuzzlerom v0.8 and you can find in the thread for wpr0.8.

Well, I took your flashable ZIP, removed the build.prop it contained, and replaced it with the build.prop of CM7 Nightly 2. Then, I tried flashing it, still no change.
Now, I have no idea whether I am 'allowed' to change flashable ZIP's like that or not, but, from what it is looking like, I am still unable to get this working on CM7NB2. I'll probably try making a flashable ZIP from scratch later as I get time.

If it's simple enough, it would be nice if you could tell how to do a flashable zip (or yourself make a one suitable for CM6/7 ). I just want to test these libraries on CM7, any help is appreciated

i think devs who makes this rom should instal in rom everything what can increase perfomance. so im waiting for the rom with all those things instaled.
will it happen someday?:/

Which is exactly what I said in the CM7 thread. No one here has till date, found verifiable gains, with using OpenGL on the Wildfire. Everyone reports the same thing, that there is no or absolutely negligible (Which I think is just a mind thing) change in gaming / intensive applications performance.
If you are looking for ROM's wit inbuilt OpenGLES Support, WildPuzzle has a flashable ZIP, and DS and DK Roms provides it inbuilt in its latest version. For the others, the manual method has to be followed.

[how-to]Fix android market if it isn't working

Hi,
If your like me and you have had some problems with android market on your Kindle Fire (yes,I got one for christmas and its already rooted ) by following a guide with Vending.apk and though you can browse the market, it is stuck on Starting Download, I have found a solution to the problem... All you need to do is get a new file:bit.ly/tlWjSn
This file is simply an updated version to the Vendor.apk other tutorials provide.
All you do is the following(presuming you have rooted, got root explorer and GO launcher):
1.Copy the file to kindle at an easy to access location.
2.Long-Hold the file and tap move.
3.Navigate to / then system then app.
4.Set it to R/W mount (top left)
5.Paste the file.
6.Set the permissions like all other files(tick first 2 in first row, first 1 in second row and first 1 in third row then tap ok)
7.Reboot the device
8.Go onto GO launcher and add it to the screen (tap the list thing bottom middle of the screen, then tap Add. then select Application followed by Market)
9.Done! Enjoy!
Not sure if I should start a new thread or not.
I'm rooted and have SU. I have confirmed this by running Titainium Backup.
Market stopped working after the latest Kindle update. After I re-rooted, I tried re-installing vender.apk, but it still crashes upon launching it. Also, I am running Go Launcher EX.
When I browse folders while connected to a computer (using Win7), the system folder is hidden.
I never installed Root Explorer on the Fire. Is there a way for me to download and install it directly, or will I need to side load it? I assume if it's in the Market I'll need to side load.

Unfortunately you will as far as I know, but for $3.99, it is VERY useful when rooting or installing app's. market.android.com/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en

Hello guys, I have a little question related to market app that maybe has been already answered so I won't start a new thread.
I have my KF with 6.2.1 rooted and with the full android market installed (EX launcher and so on).
Usually the market works fine, but I always get errors ( process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly) and consequent force closes even if I can download stuff and apps. Basically, it happens whenever the market takes an action.
Is it a known issue or ir it "normal" ?
Thank you all in advance.
For me, I am having problems copying the Vending.apk to /system/app folder. I follow the steps in that tutorial but when I paste the.apk in the folder nothing happens. Help??
Got it rooted last night, and I'm using file expert since my cheap ass doesn't want to buy root explorer.

I'm afraid that without Root Explorer you can't change the /system/app folder permissions from R/O to R/W, therefore you can't paste anything in that folder.

File expert gives you that option too though.
if ur rooted but it wont paste or read and write in root explorer then ur su wasnt pushed properly in ur root process! When i rooted my kindle i deleted my old su and did the whole root process from scratch when i got the new root process. The whole thing went smooth and su showed up in apps when done but it wasnt totally rooted as i couldnt read or write in root explorer. Jcase told me that when the adb command for pushing the su wasnt done right thats what happens. he fixed it for me, great guy.
that was me though

Viper4Android S-ON/OFF Workaround

I have successfully created my own bypass to get viper4android to work. Always create a full backup before attempting =)
1. Download viper4android APK
2. Download Root Explorer from the playstore
3. Install Both Apps
4. Launch Root Explorer
5. In root explorer go to /system/lib/soundfx and copy the folder to /data/ (make a soundfx folder)
6. Also copy /system/etc/audio_effects.conf to the /data/soundfx/ folder
7. Using root explorers menu you can create a shortcut (symbolic link) make a shortcut of the /data/soundfx/ folder and a shortcut of the /data/soundfx/audio_effects.conf
8. Boot into TWRP
9.Mount the system partition
10. Rename /system/lib/soundfx to /system/lib/soundfx2
11. Copy soundfx shortcut create earlier to /system/lib/ it will look like a "file" to TWRP
12.Rename the /system/etc/audio_effects.conf to /system/etc/audio_effects.conf1
13. Copy the audio_effects shortcut into /system/etc/ (be sure its name matches the old exactly)
15. Reboot
16. Launch Viper and install driver
I haven't dealt with LPA yet (hasn't had an issue) nor have I done any other modifications at this time which are avail on the viper4android thread.
I was just thinking about symbolic links to get around this S-OFF/ON issue and it appears they work and technically as a workaround we could symbolically link everything in system to another location and access it all. This could easily be put into ROM builds now at least as well!
Build.Prop may be useful to move out via sym link as well
It's not a matter of being s-on or s-off.. It's a matter of having write protection removed then you can do all of that. S-off just allows you to flash any partition on the device.. (radio, hboot etc..) plus you can flash any ruu you want as long as you change to supercid
There is a kernel module in dev and it's working great on my device.
On M7 it seems to me that the S-OFF also disables write protection system on stock rom

But you don't need s-off to disable write protection. You just need a kernel with it disabled or the kernel module which flair posted in the development section. I'm using it and am able to write to the system fine and I'm s-on. The title of the thread should be something like "with write protection on" not s-on.
I just wanted to clarify that with S-OFF this module is useless

You don't need to clarify that to me. I'm very well aware of that. My point was that for this topic you don't need s-off for this to work.. You just need write protection off. Whether that be with with s-off or with a module.. This working is not dependant on s-off.. It's dependant on write protection being off. That is my point.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
For anyone who wants the stock kernel with write protection off just use this JMZM8 Kernel and then just install busybox like regular and boom Viper4Android, literally made my M8 sound so much better (not that it wasn't already awesome)
worked with htc 816 running indian stock, which still has no s-off at the moment,
had to go to twrp recovery terminal command, to make the symbolic links or move directories....
viper4android made a lot of difference in this particular model.
the next thing would be to make viper4a a system app, since it tended to close and thus lower the volume, usually after some time.

you can try and copy the app or push it in recovery to System/app. if you put it manually in not push via adb be sure to set the right permissions if the recovery doesn't set them automatically ! it should work even without s-off

will try to make it work .... meanwhile from what i gathered in a htc 816 facebook group, most indian pple buying this particular model seems to have no clue about making the most out of its audio properties ... the 816's true selling points were its larger 5.5 " size, great audio output, and relatively low cost compared with other htc flagship models.

done ... went to twrp recovery,
moved "com.vipercn.viper4android_v2-1.apk" from ""/data/app" to "/system/priv-app"
moved "com.vipercn.viper4anddroid_v2-1/libV4AJniUtils.so" from to "/data/app-lib" to "/system/lib/"
should be working fine, havent extensively tested it out yet though,
reported as a system app, and viper driver is running.
I Can't Get data/soundfx Shortcut to Transfer to /System/lib
In the opening instructions, #11 says that we have to transfer the data/soundfx shortcut to /system/lib. Everytime I try it with TWRP it just says failed. If I try it with root browser,
it will say successful until the phone is rebooted. Any help would be appreciated. I am a newbie to these things.

u need to install twrp recovery for htc 816.
get it from "TeamWin Projects" website.
after successfully installing twrp, boot into recovery mode, use twrp to move data/soundfx shortcut to /system/lib, etc...
hope u get to install viperfx successfully and make full blast of the great audio output of this big value music machine, makes a near perfect combo with my music angel cube speakers(as far as mine human ears tell me), anyone using this combo too?
later htc models based on mediatek chipsets seem to have horrible audio outputs ... maybe even iphone 6 and samsung note4 cant beat htc 816 where mp3 output is concerned
background: htc 816 doesnt has s-off, so its always s-on, which means if u try to write to the "/system" folder, the phone will trigger a reboot immediately, to prevent any modifications to the folder. root browser will not be able to write to /system folder, even if the phone has root access, due to this s-on protection. The only way to edit /system folder is to boot to twrp (in recovery mode).

Will this method work without busybox?
There is a very specific reason why I'd not like to use busybox, so this may end up being a very good solution for me.

What's wrong with busybox? its a hidden process only used when an app like V4A calls for it, other then that it has no negative effect. why avoid it?
Besides this thread is disinfo, all this is not required to get V4A working, Go to this thread Here and follow instructions.

U followed the steps by blewis?
Why it is so complicated..???.if s-on, unlock bootloader and flash a custom kernel (elementalx). In install options just choose to set SElinux permissive. Then, install driver for Viper and reboot. That is it. If s-off, start with kernel installation...
People are talking about that s-off gives full access to system partition - true but not correct. Unlocked bootloader gives write access to system folder, while s-off in addition allows to change partitions, bootloader, etc.

Welp, it's so complicated because NONE of the instructions seem to work for a huge number of us. I've tried like 5 "failsafe" methods but they just fail and fail.
ONE time I had it working and was all psyched, and then I restarted the phone at some point and that was the end of that. Never worked since.

[V4A] Viper4Android I/O Error (Driver Installation Failure) [FIX]

Hey everyone! I seem to have found put together 3 methods of installing/bypassing the V4A App on android. These methods include:
Regular Installation, and 2 Error bypasses/fixes.
If you get the error "superuser manager doesn't allow app to access su or you don't have root at all. fix this to use this selinuxmodechanger!", then you've come to the right place.
Requirements: ROOT, (maybe) TWRP (or anything you can flash the zip onto your phone with. With this tutorial I'll be using TWRP.)
If you don't have TWRP, here's the link to that \\ https://twrp.me/Devices/
Type in/select your device, click download, and flash it to your phone.
====================================================================================
Regular installation:
1.) Download V4A from Google Play Store \\ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vipercn.viper4android_v2_fx&hl=en
2.) Open, and grant root permission.
3.) Install drivers, and reboot phone. DONE!
==================================================================================================
V4A SuperSU Manager Error:
1.) Download V4A from Google Play Store (the newest one) \\ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vipercn.viper4android_v2_fx&hl=en
Open it, grant permissions, click "install drivers" <- just get through the driver menu. This is a troubleshoot test. If it fails, keep going on with the tutorial. If not, You're A-Okay.
2.) Download V4A Flashable ZIP from here \\ https://drive.google.com/file/d/0By-5wpCgi7OHMjFZRU1PYXljbDQ/view
Drag and drop from your computer onto your phone in your "Downloads" folder.
3.) Open TWRP and click "Install" and navigate to your "Downloads" folder where you Installed the V4A Flashable ZIP (Viper4AndroidMM_v2.4.0.1.zip)
Install the ZIP in TWRP, and reboot.
4.) Open your apps/app menu, navigate to the new (it's an older version, but it's newly installed) V4A. It should be a purple logo instead of a blue logo. At this point in the tutorial, you should have both the Google Play Store APK, and the TWRP Flashed APK. Open the PURPLE V4A, and Install drivers now.
5.) Reboot phone, go to the NEW (blue logo) V4A, and install drivers on that one too.
The rest is clean-up. You may now delete the older version of V4A (purple logo).
========================================================
Bypass/fix #2, The SELinuxModeChanger issue:
1.) Download V4A (newest version) from \\ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vipercn.viper4android_v2_fx&hl=en
2.) (Grant root access) Attempt to install drivers. If this succeeds, then Idk why you're still here.
3.) Download SELinuxModeChanger APK from \\ http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=12506
4.) Open it, grant root access, and click "Permissive".
5.) Re-boot phone, and open V4A when done.
6.) Install drivers!

my head unit doesn't have vendor/etc or the audio effects configuration file....
Thanks
I had the Viper.apk from their website and the Google play version loaded also and I was getting the I/O error when trying to load the driver and the Google Play version didn't work at all. I did try to load SuperSU and busybox before attempting to load the driver again and it still didn't work. I don't know about permissive kernel, I'm running Resurrection ROM on a Rooted Note 3. The way I got this to work was to uninstalled the V4A Viper APK version that I had retrieved and loaded from their website. Next I booted into TWRP recovery and installed the V4A Flashable ZIP from the link that I found here. Next I ran the flashed version and granted SU permissions when asked during the install driver process. The driver finally loaded and bingo it works now.

You have to rename file before opening V4A app for the first time, now you rename it before or after flashing no matter,

When I install drivers for ViPER4Android FX I get "Driver installed, please reboot your device." and when I reboot, I'm asked to install drivers again. Did anyone figure out how to successfully install these drivers? I saw fixed around the forum, but they don't seem to work for me.
