"OK Google" from locked phone no longer working - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

This seems to have started up recently when the screen is off and I can't quite figure out if its tied to the Google Play Services version or not. I'm on the latest beta of Google / GPS and it doesn't seem to be working on Oreo.
Curious if this has happened to anyone else?
I'm on GPS 11.9.73 and I think it ties more into that

Doesn't work here & seems to have been removed from settings

Google Assistant settings are accessed from the Google Assistant app. And, even though it's set to unlock the phone on hearinh "OK Google, it doesn't. Just brings up the unlock keypad

My settings still does say screen off as well.

Go to security/smart lock and see if trusted voice is in the menu. There may be an app not playing nice with smart lock. If greenify isn't set up right it can cause this issue.

It is in the menu and brings me to my screenshot from above. No Greenify or any doze/power saving changes
Edit - annnnd out of nowhere it starts working again 3 hours later

It should look like this: see attached. Not sure what's causing it but that's possible your issue.

Annnnd, also out of nowhere, it's working here, too.
Interesting, too, it that the "Settings">"Smart Lock" page is no longer blank:

A lot of the setting don't seem to work for whatever reason. Like limiting background processes just..doesn't.

The only fix there is for this is to turn off smartlock by going to setting, security, and trust agents then turn it off and restart the phone then re enable the smart Lock

Same issue as OP. I have Dynamic Notifications installed. Believe it's the same Samsung bug as on Note 2. Voice ceases when I deactivate DN. Will continue to experiment.

I didn't have any of the other accessibility apps installed, but I figured out my problem.
I had turned off TalkBack in the application manager but the browser still wouldn't shut up. I went back in there and turned it back on, then went to the accessibility settings and turned the TalkBack settings on for a few minutes. When I turned the setting back off it stopped talking. This may have also been the cause of a problem I was having with one-handed mode not working. I have no idea why... but the next time I tried the one-handed swipe after doing this, it actually worked.
Happened to me as well My trigger was i turned on google voice in the accesibility for dash clock and that triggered the the talk back bug. Once i turned off google voice it stopped. I saw some videos and they said turning something on in accesibity triggers this bug
I had this problem kick in yesterday, after remembering I had just installed greenify, I uninstalled greenify and voice went away

System UI Tuner not working

Hi All,
Just got my Nexus 6P from Google UK to replace my HTC One M8 GPE (Been an amazing phone. made better by GPE)
Anyway, I've enabled developer options, but can't for the life of me get System UI tuner to work, the settings symbol just wont spin at all, tried holding it for 2-3 seconds, 5 seconds and 10 seconds.
Also tried this on my HTC One M8 GPE, Nexus 9 and wont work on them either?
Any thoughts? got developer enabled on them all.
Took several tries for me to get it. Hard to see it spin with my fat finger on it.
it wont spin at all on any of the devices, I can hold it down so my finger is fully over it or I can hold it down so only part of finger is on it, but it wont spin.
Got it working, turns out you have to have animations turned on in developer settings for it to work.
I still want able to get the System UI Tuner to show up in settings after enabling animations. I don't know what else to try.
---------- Post added at 07:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 PM ----------
Never mind I got it to work. I had to turn off developer settings. Restart phone then use the normal method of turning it on. It worked fine after I did all that.

How did you disable the developer settings?
Go into Settings>Developer Options
And at the top there is an "On/Off" toggle. Then restart your phone. And do the method of enabling the "System UI."
Tried to get System UI Settings. . Nothing worked until I read posts above. But I also suggest that if you have shut off animations in Developer Options - return them to the default 1.0 so you can see the gear spin. Reset them after you get the System UI options.
I've got an updated to nougat p9 and it doesn't work at all
What I heard system UI is for the Google phones.

google assistant & identifying products using camera

Using Google now on tap, i was able to identify the products such as movies, gadgets and etc by opening the camera app and holding the home button
But with the google assistant it doesn't.. Anyone can use it!
Hey so I just tried and actually it does work. Just aim the camera at something (I used the game case for Mass Effect: Andromeda) and activate Google Assistant. On the bottom you'll see a little floating card. Pull it up and it should show you info about what's on screen. Like I said it recognized Mass Effect & also Destiny.

You just aim the camera at something and press and hold the home button to trigger assistant. Then on the very bottom of the assistant screen you'll see a little card bobbing up and down. Pull the card up with your finger and it'll show any relevant information about what's on the screen.
Actually I just noticed that you don't even need to pull it up yourself. You open the camera and trigger assistant with whatever you want in the viewfinder. The card bobs up and down for a couple of seconds before automatically expanding itself to reveal the information.

Yeah the 2nd one should do it. Camera permissions wouldn't have anything to do with it. My Google app does not have camera permissions.

Weird Additional Lock Screen On My S8

Hi Guys,
I have Iris and fingerprint and lock screen pattern set up as my unlock options. I used to just use one of the three mentioned and go straight in to my home screen. However this morning the phone has been presenting an additional swipe to unlock screen. I cant find anything in the settings to disable this and it's very annoying.
Any one know what it is and more importantly how to get rid of it?! Image attached.

Do you happen to have Smart Lock Enable?
Nope it's not that, Smartlock puts a small padlock on the standard lock screen.
I've tried disabling smartlock and I can confirm ts not related to that.
you have an app that is acting like the lockscreen, find it and remove it
Might be power saving or performance mode

That was my assumption as well - has to be a 'google' app but I cant seem to locate it.
I've flicked performance mode off and it's still present.
It has to be another app. Probably an app that has additional stuff on it you didn't know about. My mom and dad's phone had an additional lock screen due to a cleaner app they installed. I was like wut.
That's without a doubt a third party lock screen
Had the same issue
It is a third party app
I had one called ManFIT
I uninstalled it and was good to go
Definitely an app that you recently downloaded or one you have that updated. Work for tmobile we get this all the time with old people that let their kids download anything. It's a free game/theme/file cleaner/battery saver/virus cleaner/emoji keyboard. If it's an app you need for something else you can revoke certain permissions for it to get rid of the fake lockscreen.
I have the same issue
I'm having the same issue and it's extremely annoying.
As soon as I use my fingerprint to unlock my screen I'll hit the button to close out apps, and it is first in the list, and it's called "lockscreenplugin" and has a picture of what the android system apps is like (little green monster)
But I cannot figure out how to disable it as it's not listed in the apps in settings (even showing system apps)

Once you unlock your screen and your stuck on the swipe one......in the top left corner I noticed 3 dots, I tapped it and it said turn off now......see if that helps

The three dots in the top left of this annoying screen lock is the answer! I got this new lock screen yesterday and it's been driving me crazy; it even shows ads for Lyft and Facebook. I had to touch the area of the three dots about six times before a pop-up message appeared, asking if I wanted to disable it. Then it asked again if I was sure. Afterward it is completely disabled. THANKS!!!
No three dots

App scaling: system apps

Since I have activated immersive mode (nav bar hides itself automatically) some of the apps just don't fill up the screen. I've tried to scale them with the built-in app scaling feature but some of the system apps (PlayStore, Chrome etc.) aren't shown in the list. Do you guys know a way to scale these apps? Thanks.
You can do this in the service menu, ie set so all apps are 18:9.
---------- Post added at 21:13 ---------- Previous post was at 21:11 ----------
BTW, do you get severe battery drain when you activate immersive mode?
I get about 10% per hour of drain

Can you please explain a bit more? Where do I find the service menu and what exactly do I have to do?
And I haven't noticed any severe battery drain. I use the app all "all in one gestures" to activate immersive mode. I know some people use another method to activate it and they're having battery issue but I'm not. This app is really stable and it doesn't even need root to do all the tricks.

For H870 enter the code *#546368#*870# in the dialer to get to service menu, then SVC menu / Force long display mode, and enable it.

I've never used the built-in keyboard so I didn't know about that. I've always used Gboard and it works for me just fine. It's really weird that you're having an issue with the keyboard since even the developer had state that it shouldn't be any issue
I gave some more permissions in ADB for it to work.
So after giving the app extra permissions to enable keyboard I get battery drain again.
Using Gboard as well.
How did you get the keyboard working without having setting permissions via ADB? @browy

I only go to the Settings apps, then Accessibility, under Services I just have to switch All in one Gestures to on.
But everything doesn't matter now. I dropped my phone today and it's now heavily damaged . Aluminium frame is bent, screen is shattered, part of the doesn't display properly. Maybe I'll switch to the Honor 9. Man, this phone is only 3 weeks old.
