Enabling tethering on Verizon WITHOUT root - Google Pixel 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

So there is a great guide on how to do it with Magisk and root: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/how-to/how-to-disable-carrier-tether-check-t3701836
It worked great.
Today I uninstalled Magisk so I could sideload latest security update.
When I booted with TWRP I decided to play around with it and ended up editing /system/build.prop to add net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to the end. You can do it since with TWRP you can mount /system and change permissions.
I also verified that global tether_dun_required is 0 by doing
settings get global tether_dun_required in adb shell
With all of that tethering still didn't work. It would say I had to contact provider.
After verifying everything multiple times I gave up installed Magisk re-edited /system/build.prop and tethering works again.
Any theories why it wouldn't work without root even if you can edit everything?

I uninstalled Magisk from the app. Downloaded latest binary from https://developers.google.com/android/ota, then followed instructions to side load it.
As I mentioned I had pretty much stock build, other then root with Magisk, and default recovery.

Is this systemless root link?

I feel like I can not ever find systemless root properly.
I recently reflashed the stock march security update factory image. I then reinstalled TWRP 3.0 and then flashed "BETA-SuperSU-v2.68-20160228150503.zip" found int eh thread below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
however when i booted, I wasnt systemless I was full root with the SU app and everything. i was able to unroot and now android pay works.
i would like to install SYSTMLESS ROOT what ever the latest is so that i can remove the XBIN folder and use the CHMOD trick to get androidpay working but I just cant seem to find the actual systemless root.
i end up digging around like 3 or 4 different SU threads and its frustrating lol.
is the BETA-SuperSU-v2.68-20160228150503.zip the systemless version?
thanks!
2.68 is the one I flashed from TWRP,, but before I applied the zip I accessed the Terminal in TWRP and typed
echo "SYSTEMLESS=true" > /data/.supersu
Then I flashed the supersu.zip. Rebooted to system then used Root Explorer to change the permissions of /su/bin to 751. Removed the xbin_bind folder. Restarted and it was systemless root.

PHH's Root Disappeared

Hi Guys.
As the title suggests root access suddenly disappeared from my nexus 6p yesterday.
DigitalHigh rom 7.0 was flashed through the latest twrp (3.0.2-2) and everything was running fine. I got the notification that the SU binary is out of date from PHH's SuperUser. Opened it but nothing really happened. So I downloaded superSU and suddenly it prompted me that the device isn't rooted. Being unfamiliar with PHH's SU I decided to flash the latest SuperSu through TWRP but the phone wouldn't boot.
Right now it has been restored to a backup taken just before flashing SuperSU which means everything is running fine and even android pay works however there's no root access. Is there something specific that might have caused this?
Are there any ways to re-gain root?
Haven't gone through the process of a clean flash yet as the phone is needed for work however even if all of that is done the SU binary will still need to be updated. Is there a different method for updating PHH's root?
So far I have tried clearing cache etc. but noting worked.

Phhusson's superuser and SuperSU don't mix. If you're back to booted, but not rooted with Phh, you'll need to either flash one of the Nougat boot images from the nexus/angler folder or the latest superuser.zip (I think the latest is r229) from http://superuser.phh.me

[HowTo] Pokemon Go on Rooted Phones (CM13/PaulPizz/Jasmine/Stock)

I know this is all over the place, but I thought I would bring it here just in case anyone hadn't found the answer. I have seen a few posts about this on Reddit and some other forums. This will obviously hinge on having the unlocked bootloader. You will also need a file explorer that lets you view root folders just in case you want to make sure the binaries have been delete.
What worked for CM13:
Install SuperSU and use it's unroot method which should delete all SU binaries in /system/bin and /system/xbin.
Install phh SU and Magisk manager.
Reboot to recovery
Install the Magisk v6 and PHH SU files.
Reboot system after clearing cache
Access Magisk Manager and toggle root, it should prompt PHH SU to ask about permissions.
I have read that this same method works for PaulPizz and Jasmine Rom as well. PaulPizz has Xposed preinstalled, so you have to run the Xposed uninstaller and remove the Xposed app. Follow instructions from the Xposed for Magisk thread to reinstall xposed if you require it.
If you want this with the Stock Verizon image, there is a link in the Stock Image thread on page 41 with the bootloader removed for safe upgrade. I will update the post with links to the appropriate threads later today.
Credit to all the devs involved with the Note 4 and Android in general.
The method you've described worked for me on 0.35 PoGo. Then 0.37 update I already had to rollback.
I'm using HTC One M8, rooted, pph and Magisk on stock Rom, systemless xposed.
Now the forced 0.39 version does not run, leaving me with me 'Failed to log in' text. Please guys, work on some help I put my trust in you
I'm on Paul pizz and when i follow the instructions I can get full unroot, everything flashed, but when I go into Magisk manager I am not prompted for anything and if I hit the toggle for root it just toggles itself back. It appears that even after removing the super.su from system in twrp that I still can't get it to install.
I have also removed Xposed with the uninstaller and tibu to remove the APk. I can get systemless Xposed to install and work but not systemless root.
Any ideas?

I'd it's still detecting root, the su binaries haven't been removed completely. Also check that magisk toggles off root.

If you have xposed active, it may not allow you to toggle root off. You have to go to system less and deactivate and then reboot. Then turn off root in magisk. It's the only way I found to get it to work.

iSu [v3.5] Simple app to deactivate activate
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/isu-simple-app-to-deactivate-activate-t3478348
I've seen a few posts on people getting iSu to work to get PoGo on our phones. I've tried a few times but no matter what version of Su I have installed o get this respongse.
Does anyone have a verison that is compatible with iSu. Or could provide me some guidance that would be great.

Lost root, can not seem to get it back

Magisk show I have root, and it is installed correctly. I wiped system and reinstalled, still no app shoes I have root. The bootloader shows it is unlocked and TWRP works, but ever application says root is not installed, tried to install magisk manually from TWRP, no issues, but still all apps say I do not have root. What can be done, I can not afford to not backup, so a clean re-install is an issue since Ti-Backup does not show root access.
I would assume manually flashing magisk would fix any issue as would wiping and re-installing system, but neither resolved the lack of root issue. This is on RR Remix so it is rooted by default.
Please help,
ERIC
Did you make sure Root is checked in the Developer options?
Found the solution, with magisk there is a settings option to enable root for Apps or just ADB or both, somehow it got switched to ADB only.

P10 lite and magisk (14)

Hey!
It's great we finally got our own lite forum
I had an update to version (WAS-LX1C432)B182 yesterday. Only way to install it on my device was by official update and full package. Of course i had to unlock bootloader, install twrp and root again afterwards.
Magisk is running fine so far. I can, however, not pass safetynet check. How about you guys, any experiences?
I tried disabling and enabling magiskhide, core mode only, new busybox installation and enabling log settings but haven't been lucky so far. Btw, is it normal that one always has to enable logging after every restart?
I recently updated to WAS-LX1C432B182 via official (full) update package. This was the only way i was able to update, which means I had to re-unlock bootloader, install TWRP (3.1.1.), root my phone with magisk and restore my phone. I am finally passing safetynet (For now! ). To make it work I have to enable logging (*#*#2836579#*#*) and restarte magiskhide (terminal!) after every reboot. Google also says I'm certified. The only thing RootBeer Sample detects is the magisk busybox binary module.
Chur to you, you I rooted my phone with TWRP first, and then installed Superuser, but I did it all with the command prompt administrator on the I've only really work with Samsung before and that was quiet might drawn out sort of different way to go about it. What's your opinion all this s***
