Will Honor 7X or V10 be a Xiaomi Killer? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Seems Honor 7X was a hit in the last few months, and Honor is coming up with a decent new phone View 10, a flagship one. How are the three phones in function, durability or affordability? Will Honor really be a xiaomi killer in 2018? What do you guys think?

What's replacing the Axon 7?

Amazon is showing that the Axon 7 has been discontinued. What new model is replacing it?
ZTE is still selling it on their website. It hasn't been discontinued yet.
The note 8 for me.
Newer phones with similar specs would be Xiaomi Mi6, HTC U11, Sony XZ Premium, Huawei P10 Plus.
But the Axon 7 doesn't lag much behind those, not enough reason to upgrade to either of these.
Reason I didn't include any samsung is the lack of stereo speakers which is a must in 2017 for me.

It sounds like a heavily modified Axon 7.
ZTE Axon 9. To be announced in October. Yes, they are skipping over 8 and going straight to 9..
All my information is from an XDA member who participated in a focus group in Germany, and he relayed what ZTE managers told him.

It's not October yet, is it? The person who told me the info participated in a focus group run by ZTE for the successor to the ZTE Axon 7 and he communicated directly with ZTE managers. The ZTE Axon 9 will likely be ANNOUNCED in October. Announced is not "released", don't confuse the two. Release could even be November. But "announced" would still be good.
The Multy is no replacement for the ZTE Axon 7. It's just another ZTE device with horrible specs. 2016 Snapdragon 820 with 6.8" 1080p? To be released towards the end of 2017 . Oh, come on. Please, never mention that name in this forum again. ZTE makes lots of devices, just like Samsung. Not every Samsung device is the next flagship phone. Samsung even makes mediocre "Galaxy" phones to trade on that name. So, looks like ZTE is selling out the Axon name... But it's not the ZTE Axon 7 successor.

The Multy is supposed to be an AT&T exclusive. Of course it won't be the next A7.

I'm not the one who said the Multy was the next Axon flagship phone. That was @xzolteu
Unless you are agreeing with me that it's silly to even mention that device in this forum.
ZTE won't release a phone with WORSE specs than the ZTE Axon 7 as the successor to the fabulous ZTE Axon 7. But they will take their time to get it right... Here's the exchange for those who didn't read it:

I agree on the extra RAM, however there is a big trade off to build in a good stereo speaker set up.
ZTE have confirmed to me that their next smartphone will retain stereo speakers will going with the bezelless design, so that's the brand you should be looking towards if you want stereo speakers. That's also why their next flagship is delayed, they want to do it right. Stereo front facing speakers is their USP but of course it is not as easy to realize with an 18:9 display without the smartphone being big.

ZTE are waiting for more OLED displays in18:9 to become available. Will likely be announced in October.
It is likely to be called Axon 9, though, better number of a Chinese company from what they told us.
Axon 9 should have glass design, wireless charging, larger battery around 3800mAh - 4000mAh (hence the need for a lighter material) and maintain the stereo speakers, the design is not yet known but front firing side speakers is indeed an option they are considering.

Oh my goodness. How did you find all this information? I ALMOST bought the Axon 7, but it didn't have Qi wireless charging. Seriously, that is the only reason.
I like LG a lot, and the V30 will be my next phone, but you're suddenly making me do some more thinking...
Thank you for all the time and information. I'll be waiting for the carrier unlocked version of the V30 anyways, so I'm not in a hurry. I bought my last daily driver in 2014, so I tend to keep a good phone when I find it.

Participated in several betas for several phones and they did request our feedback for future products as well. When I talked to them at IFA, they said they took that on board and confirmed the direction.

It will have AoD, we gave that feedback during beta testing and they are working on it. The camera set up is likely to have 1 low light camera and 1 higher pixel one.

If this is true I'll be pretty dissapointed.
I really hope they make a device almost the same as the axon 7 design wise but with updated SoC, Camera, Ram, Battery and waterproofing.
Please a 6GB 128GB option on day 1.
Axon 7 Replacement
I'm curious about whether or not the Axon 7 replacement (Axon 9, whatever) will finally work on networks like Verizon. As I understand it, there are very few networks where the Axon 7 works well. Having a new car with Android Auto,
I'm also wanting a smartphone that not only has great audio, but also works with Android Auto and on a reliable network.
I'm also wanting to know if it will retain a headphone jack, and not follow the way of Apple in eliminating it.
I don't like wireless anything near my brain.
Call me paranoid...
This has been an awesome phone and will continue to be great with all the updates. Unfortunately I have purchased a Note 8 that will arrive on Friday. So keep up the great work devs and making this a great phone.
CDMA Radio
LTE Band 4/Band 13 Support
4 GB RAM (Min.)
MicroSD Card Slot
1440p (Min.)
5.5" Display Size (Min.)
OLED Display Technology
3.5mm Audio Jack
Front Facing Stereo Speakers
Fingerprint Scanner
NFC
3000 mAh Battery (Min.)
Currently, the only phone on the market that satisfies these specs is the Axon 7. I worry that this set of specs will be very difficult to come by in the future.

How happy have you been with security and OS updates?

I have my eye on the mate 10 pro, but being an Honor 8 user right now, I know how slow Huawei can be. How has the Mate 9 been maintained? Have you received regular security updates? would you recommend the Huawei Mate series using your past experience? Thanks

Hi...
Since i bought mate 9 pro in May I got 4 updates. If You asking about my recommendation i just want to tell then now im waiting when mate 10 pro will be in my country to buy it...
For me it's a completely phone for daily use.
Before I was using Honor 7, 8 and after honor 8 i buy mate 9 pro and in my opinion that was the best decision

I can say that there is no month I don't receive an update, and I'm pretty happy with the support and updates.
I'm deciding between the Mate 10 Pro and the Pixel 2 XL.

Indeed, overall Mate 10 Pro is better device, but still I want to give a try to the Pixel 2 XL. Worst case scenario, I sell the Pixel 2 XL and buy the Mate 10 Pro.

I discarded Pixel 2 XL for all the screen problems, and moreover Play Store is not available in my country, so any warranty for screen defects will be a pain in the ass.
I saw the Mate 10 Pro in a store, and the screen was not bad, but FHD after 3 years of QHD are kind of noticeable for me.
For the moment, I'm waiting for the HTC U11+, which seems the perfect device on paper, and the few users that have it, are reporting an awesome phone.

Emui 5.0.3 is next propably.

There is rumors and there is fact. Emui / Hauwei is talking about only oreo for kirkin 60 and up. Hauwei wants to adapt oreo features and virtual desktop to work with noughat OS. Thats not that cool to do and leave us on nougjat , especially when HONOR low price phones from a few years ago ARE getting factory updates to oreo. Considering us mate 8 owners paid a very pricy price tag to buy mate 8 and also are so called vip customers why don't we get what we deserve. ? Mate 8 can run oreo easily. What is sucks about mate 8 is the crappy video card ... Video card is the reason hauwei is trying to avoid mt8 oreo. Fact . hope it makes sense.

Honor Root and Custom ROM support is apparently dead.

Looks like developer support for this phone is officially dead, I don't even see a safe method to root EMUI 8.0, ROM development is also dead because the company gave out new phones to the developer to start development on View 10 and newer phone.
Well, tit for tat, Nokia x6 and other new phones will take down Honor subbrand in a giffy and guys this is the reason why you should not trust Honor and Xiaomi.
I recommend not buying even the new Honor 10 from this companu because in a month or two they will release a new phone and will stop or delay even bug fixes for older phone, just see that H8Pro was released in Aug 2017 and till now we have H9, H9 lite, view 10 and Honor 10. No way we are getting Android 9 or any bug fixes soon......
Sad to say but I agree. I've never stuck around with the stock ROM on a phone as long as I've stuck with EMUI. It's not because I love EMUI of course. There is just not even a single custom ROM that works fully. I feel like I should've gone with the OnePlus 5 instead at the time I bought this. Probably never buying Honor again, even if it offers better hardware I'd rather pick a phone which has better developer support.

Yea, If I had any idea that this would happen, I would've bought OP5T instead. Dude, that company knows how to cater the customers, my friend who bought OP1 is still getting freebies like Star Wars : Last Jedi tickets and Avengers Infinity wars ticket.
Well, I am getting a new phone for someone and right now OP6 and Honor 10 (not launched in India) falls in that price range, but this time I am going with OP6.

Whats your next phone?

After 2 great years with my mate 9, I have to say it's been a good experience but it's time to move on. Because Huawei is locking up their bootloaders, restricting lots of stuff and the lack of custom roms, I'm think of going for the OnePlus 7, Mi Mix 3 855 snapdragon/ Mi 9, maybe for Sony's new flagship or something interesting coming out in Q1.
Do you have any suggestions?

That's the fact I hate about huawei, my mate 9 was really good...
I'm thinking about taking Samsung galaxy note 9 when I get enough money to buy ?
I went with the OnePlus 6T for one reason. Lack of support for USA models without having to root/flash.
Understandable, considering how the U.S. government threw them out.
Had 3 mates, loved them, flawless, good value, but, with no security patches, or other updates, I went to the
OnePlus 6T.
Probably the latest Mate whenever I want to upgrade, most likely in 2020 or very late this year. This is a very good phone, also updated pretty well so I have no complaints about that.
No more bootloader unlock? Yeah, no more Huawei for me (or recommendations for others)...
That's the thing like I really miss having custom roms and now that Huawei is being more closed (they are even blockingg third party launchers) it's a real bummer that I can't be free with my own phone and can't get any support from the xda community. My wife has the mate 10 pro and loves it so much and I love the mate 20 pro too it's such an amazing phone but no bootloader unlock is a deal breaker for me
Next one for me I think is going to be a Oneplus (whatever number is out at the time). Samsung can go take a hike after all the crap I've dealt with, even my Work device (Samsung S8) doesn't get much use. I convinced the wife to get a OnePlus 6 and aside from some network issues (I think my carrier is the issue, not the phone), its been really great.
.....anything except huawei
There isn't any phone really appealing to me right now, and my Mate still works great.
I might change the battery at some point to keep it fresh, but I don't plan on changing it anytime soon.
