How I got 12h+ SOT on my 5T - OnePlus 5T Guides, News, & Discussion

Alright, so now that a hand full people asked me how I got over 12h of sceen on time, I'm writing this post.
First of all, SOT depends on your usage, so the result might be different for you.
Anyway, here is what I did:
!!! You need a unlocked bootloader !!!
1. Clear all phone data.
(I used stock Recovery to wipe internal storage, since TWRP is bugging in wiping the internal storage and my PC didn't recognize my device's storage)
2. Flash TWRP (I used the blu_spark version)
3. Install the latest stable OOS (4.7.6 for me) in TWRP from here
( https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...ficial-oxygen-os-roms-and-ota-updates.686610/ )
4. Once the device booted, do not start to set it up. (Stay at the Welcome screen!!)
5. Power off your device.
6. Reboot in fastboot mode, flash TWRP again and reboot directly into recovery mode.
7. Once in TWRP, connect your device to your PC and drag the latest Magisk.zip and NewKernel.zip to your devices root directory (I used NewKernel v1.08 and Magisk 15.2, NewKernel can be found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/development/newkernel-t3710363/page43 )
8. Flash Magisk first, after that (without rebooting) NewKernel.
9. Then wipe cache, dalvik and reboot.
10. After set up and you installed the Apps you need, charge your phone to 100%)
11. Install Greenfiy. (Just go for the version found in the Playstore) If you don't like Greenify, I know what your thinking, but trust me.
11. Greenify the apps that are draining your battery. (I attached a screenshot of my greenified apps)
12. Boom, enjoy your new battery life!
(If you have any problems with internal storage, (which shouldn't happen) fix contents in TWRP)
~Use NewKernel v1.08 because 1.09 has wifi issues.~

That's with Stock + Greenify before coming across your guide.
Had issues with third party Kernels on other devices in the past so I stay away from them now.
If the kernel recommended supports Oreo then I may give it a shot.

lol im so confused. i flashed stock boot.img then new kernel 1.08 then magisk 15.0 and my wifi didnt work.
so i restore a backup of my working boot.img and tried your way.
Downloaded stock boot.img flashed it, then flashed magisk 15.2 then new kernel 1.08. (im like wtf how will i keep root but it did. coz i though magisk "lives" in the boot.img)
but it worked. wifi works with safetynet intact

I think the problem was with Magisk 15.0. I also had trouble with this version, but no wifi issues. My phone took almost 3 min to boot. This was fixed in 15.1 and 15.2 was more optimized.
I'm glad it worked

Some browsing, watched a movie (that I downloaded earlier), read things on xda, some social media

For that you dropping a donation link? C'mon bro. You only using your screen. No apps, no games nothing. Just Chrome was used. Everyone can get this good SOT with that app-usage. Actually its better to hold the apps in ram than force close it
Everyone wants money for minimum work....

I use Greenify Magisk Version.
Naptime and Servicely, Naptime Doze is advanced than Greenify Doze. all pro versions
Hibernate the crappy system apps and you're good to go.
I get around 8h SOT with heavy usage.
currently on OB1.

GUIDE: How to Install Marshmallow on G925I coming from Lollipop ROM

I have seen many people on the ROM forums saying that you can't install Marshmallow ROMs on a G925I, or asking how to install.
Well I can say that yes it is possible and yes it is really straight forward and easy to do.
So I have decided to do it myself (prior to this I was also on Lollipop ROM) and took down the steps (literally step by step) to help others.
Please note: This will trip Knox.
What you need first:
1. Official Stock Marshmallow ROM for G925I
Download from here
2. Odin (I used 3.10.7)
3. Arter97's TWRP 3.0 recovery fro G925FI
Download from here
4. A custom ROM (I used Pure Stock ExtraLite Rom). Copy to your phone.
Steps:
1. Backup (EFS, nandroid, I also copied my files like photos, documents, etc to my PC)
2. Turn off device
3. Power on device directly in recovery (volume up + home + power)
4. Plug USB cable to PC and device
5. Go to Mount and enable MTP
6. Delete folders you don't need (I only kept DCIM, Bluetooth, downloads, documents, etc)
6.1 In DCIM, delete .thumbnails. I also deleted all the other folders with a . in front of them
7. Disable MTP and pull the USB cable from your device
8. Go to Home and click on Wipe
9. Swipe to factory reset
10. Click back and then advanced wipe
11. Select dalvik cache, cache, data and system (no need to wipe internal)
12. Swipe to wipe
13. Turn off device
14. Power on device directly in download mode (volume down + home + power)
15. Press volume up to continue in download mode
16. Start ODIN in administrator
17. Connect USB cable and make sure your device is recognised by ODIN
18. Click on AP and select G925I Marshmallow Stock ROM
19. Click start (it will take some time to flash)
20. Once finished, let it boot into new Marshmallow Stock ROM
21. You can unplug the USB once it is booting
22. Once booted, quickly setup your phone (probably dont need to but i wanted to see it first)
23. Once booted, turn off device completely
24. Power on device directly in download mode (volume down + home + power)
25. Press volume up to continue in downlod mode
26. This time uncheck auto reboot
27. Connect USB cable and make sure your device is recognised by ODIN
28. Click on AP and select Arter97's TWRP 3.0 (.tar.md5)
29. Click start
30. Once finished, unplug the USB cable from device
31. Press volume down + home + power until phone turns off (screen black). Release the keys and immediately press volume up + home + power to boot phone into recovery
32. Agree to TWRP's modification of the system message (swipe to allow)
33. Plug USB cable in device and click on mount
34. Once again delete files you don't need (folders with a . in front of them)
35. Disable MTP and unplug USB cable from device
36. Go to Home and click on Wipe
37. Swipe to factory reset
38. Click back and then advanced wipe
39. Select dalvik cache, cache, data and system (no need to wipe internal)
40. Swipe to wipe
41. Go to Home and select Install
42. Select ROM and swipe to flash
43. Reboot once installation is complete
44. Enjoy!

Flashing anything not signed by Samsung like a custom recovery, kernel or ROM will trip Knox. Rooting also trips Knox.
Knox for me was already tripped before flashing MM but yes this will trip Knox
SM-G925I update to MM been relase now, so no need to rooting or install cwm unless want to dualboot!

Awesome tutorial, very easy to follow indeed.
I however, instead of downloading a custom ROM fom XDA decided to download the stock Nepal 6.0.1 from sammobile. Since installing that ROM I have noticed very very poor battery life. Almost losing 5% of battery every 30 minutes SoT, this compared to losing 1% per 30 mins of SoT back on stock 5.1.1 Australia XDA.
Would anyone be able to shed some light on this at all? Maybe a fix? Do you know of a better custom MM ROM with better battery life?
Thanks

Well that's what I did. I downloaded the stock MM ROM from sammobile in order to get MM boot loader and modem. And then was able to use a custom ROM.
Not wanting to be rude but are you sure you have your stats right? 1% of battery loss per 30 minutes of SOT is impossible.. that means you'll be getting 5 hours SOT per 10% battery loss..
Right now I'm sitting on 90% battery life with a SOT of 30 minutes with hotspot on, browsing the internet, XDA and facebook.. battery life should get better but in the past few days I've been getting over 4 hours SOT per cycle. Which is roughly what I got on LP.

I'll admit the 1% per 30 mins SoT was a tiny exaggeration/estimate, but not far off.
I noticed the poor battery this morning when I woke up. I took my phone off charge (100% at the time, after an ~8 hour charge), I muted some alarms and put my phone back down, roughly 30 minutes later I got out of bed, checked my phone and noticed it was down to 96% without even using it.
As I've used it more and more through the day (as my charge gets lower) I am noticing an improvement in battery discharge so I guess I'll just let it go flat and give it a fresh charge and go from there.
I may just be focusing on the battery percentage more now because, new firmware/features ect.. But I still feel like I am losing 3-4% more now then I was on Lollipop.
But just to clarify, using the Nepal ROM on an Australian phone wouldn't be draining battery would it? I can't really think why it would, but worth asking.

I believe this is because sometimes your phone may want to boot straight into the firmware after flashing certain things. Such as with installing TWRP, TWRP needs to finish installing by booting into recovery after flashing, and not into the firmware.
Pardon me if this isn't correct.

Only reason I ask is I tried it both ways of letting it reboot and not (by Editting the Odin.ini file) and their was no difference other than I had to manually reboot when auto reboot was off (which was annoying!)

Did you try rebooting into recovery after instead of booting into the firmware? Also you can uncheck auto reboot within Odin, you don't need to edit the .ini file.

Hmm.. Can't remember.
Installed 4 or 5 times from scratch.
Doesn't matter now. Tested after that I could restore and all good.
Version of Odin I used has no options for auto reboot in the UI. [emoji106]

One question: can I get to install the marshmallow stock rom only following the instructions 14 to 20? I am not interested to wipe data (I haven´t done it the previous times I have done it in other mobiles) and I don't want to install a custom rom
I'm feeling curious, in this case you don't need to install it rooting the device in first place?
Thank you!

If all you're doing is flashing the stock MM ROM then yes, you should be fine doing steps 14-20. Generally, when flashing stock ROMs you wont lose any of your data (images, media, documents..) also there is no need to wipe your phones data, but I would still recommend making a backup just in case something does go wrong.

Thank you for posting this rom. Had trouble finding it since it wasnt on the development page. Ive gone through about 7 roms and none were 100% working and I had a lot of trouble finding a way to get back to stock 21s for my X522. All the custom roms Ive tried either have a broken camera, missing cell broadcast, or hangouts wouldnt work on it when trying to make a call or use video chat. This is the only stable working rom Ive came across so far.

Well, if anyone is willing to help. I removed SuperSU and tried to replace it with magisk but I can't because my internal storage isn't showing up and it ask for a password to decrypt.

Try format data to remove encryption.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I know there is an issue with zoom being forced on when the phone is rooted. However my phone is randomly switching back and forth between zoom and normal by itself and it's most obvious in both chrome and Gmail where the text being a different size when I open it up. I've tried the build prop fix but it's still switching between both modes.

You think via modding like this the phone it's ok or there are some problem in the normally use? you think without Google it's ok this phone or there are some problems? lineage is ok? and the final question: you think with the support of the XDA community the phone will be updated again after the closure of the official support?
thanks

1. I've had this phone for more than 2 months now and I've been modding my phone ever since, no problems whatsoever.
2. I didn't try removing Google stuff from the phone but some people have done it. Search around for that as i don't know exactly.
3. Lineage and most other roms are perfectly fine. I personally Recommend AEX but Lineage is also very good.
4. I personally think the phone will still be supported even after official support is over since there's pretty much a new rom every other week so I don't think you need to worry about support for the next 2-3 years

I meant this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/development/recovery-twrp-3-1-1-0-touch-recovery-t3688472
It's called "Twrp installer"
You need to flash it immediately after you flash a rom because once you flash any rom, twrp will be overwritten by stock recovery so you have to flash twrp installer

RevolutionOS on Mi Max 3

Seems like they now support Mi Max 3, they say they removed antirollback from their roms. Is it any good? Can we trust this rom and this guys? I would like it better than .eu which also has antirollback. I'm on 9.6.7.0 China stable, so i believe i still don't have antirollback, so i'm searching for a custom rom.
https://miui.revtechs.me/en/mimax3/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max-3/how-to/treble-mi-max-3-t3827559/page10. See @SUPERUSER's review of it on page 10.
Seems like it has some problems with battery. A problem i had with mi note 2 and custom roms(i don't remember which one).
What is the last xiaomi.eu without antirollback?

Yes I will change back to xiaomi eu in a few minutes.
Came home right now.
I had to offline charge the phone because the amps in would not go over 7 or 800mA and definitely not 9V.
I watched youtube a few hours ago and I noticed that the battery level was still at 48% when I had it plugged in for like 20minutes so I decided to turn off the phone in order to fully charge it. And it had no issues charging while being turned off.
That is a huge setback. You can't use a rom that won't charge the phone.

I did change the recovery from Orange Fox back to RedWolf because Orange Fox showed an error with no-verity-opt-encrypt every time after I flashed a rom that the script did not work.
And I did not flash the debloat zip file V1 and V2.
How I did step by step
Reboot to recovery
Format data
Reboot to recovery
Wipe everything except micro sd card
Reboot to recovery
Mount all partitions
Flashed no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0.zip
Flashed the rom
Wipe dalvik and cache
Rebooted to the rom and let it settle down,
Rebooted to recovery again and flashed magisk
Rebooted to rom
Rebooted one more time to get rid of the rom being laggy.
Configured every app and uninstalled and froze the apps I did not wan't to use with Titanium backup
Rebooted after installing all modules in Magisk
Rebooted to recovery
Wipe dalvik and cache
Reboot to rom

That's really strange about OrangeFox. Maybe report it to the dev in OrangeFox thread? They're quite good about fixing things.
Thanks for the details. What's the purpose of the no verity script? To enable encryption?
If you run into any further lag, I highly recommend you check out @mario_R's ressurected kernel. It's very good. (Edit: , nevermind, looks like you're already using it)

Everything done, but now if i go in sound and vibration on settings it gives error. Battery is not great(almost 10% in a night without using it). Very raw version as of now.
And can't also do or receive calls, maybe i have to install firmware, but if i do it will work even with other roms? Or every rom has its firmware?

Help needed! Rooted device can't install apps from play store nor even update!!! Me is desperatly looking for instant help

Ok one by one... I have a Mi 9T rooted, but not really a custom rom, Just a very special version from Xiaomi.eu, to make it perfectly clear I am running Android 10 MIUI12.3 version 20.12.9/10 according to xiaomi.eu website. As recovery Im running Sky Hawk Recovery Project 3.0. It's rooted with magisk canary latest version and I also needed edxposed to be installed. Sorry for being so unclear I sincerely apologize for that. Of course i formatted data to get this setup running. I thought I'd know my stuff its a bit embarrasing for me to ask for help, but im very frustrated. Excuse me. The system was as far as I know runnning fine, sure i experience some lag here and there but the playstore thingy is getting over my head. Also the playstore no longer autoupdates my apps, i must manually start the update process. Does anyone has any idea what i can do in this case? Wiping cache and dalvik maybe. I would be super gratefull for any kind of advice!!!!!!! Have a nice day and i will update the OP Post as soon as something relevant happens......
Kind regards from Germany,
Florian
Edit 1: I managed to install one or two apps now, but they were rather small and it took forever to get the job done. Downloading as well as installing. Any help would be highly apprciated!
Edit 2: Added a detailed description of my setup and specifcations, just the title was too less info....
Use another device with Playstore to download them then use ApkExport to make an installable copy. Simple transfer that to the victim phone and load.
APK Export (Backup & Share) - Apps on Google Play
Manage and extract your apps.

First of all thank you for your reply it means a lot to me.
I prefer using playstore because its plug and play and i get my updates automatically. The situation has somewhat deescalted now, it took a while and I mean a while I have my new launcher now and all apps are updated and installed. But still, my mi 9t is very unresponsive if not to say laggy, even in standard ui things. Any hellp????

Nor familiar with that device.
Try clearing the system cache for starters.
You really don't want Playstore autodating.
It will kill apps and cause of kinds of problems especially when it jams a bunch of updates down your throat.
Keeping a copy of all your apps and system updates speeds reloads and means you always have a known good copy.
I don't use Playstore after I do a factory reset as I already have the apps I need. Takes 20 minutes instead 2+ hours of goofing around on Playstore.

I'm not rooted... it's not always desirable and is a gravity well for time.
On the boot menu there should be an option to clear the system cache.
Uncleared data there can cause erratic operation.

The title absolutely does not say anything useful that somebody can help you. Supposidely, you have Mi 9T (since posting here).
But which ROM, rooted how (preinstalled in custom ROM, or you installed and how, which Magisk or what, etc).
What does it mean 'no standard bootloader'?!
If xustom ROM, do you have GApps or some open source replacement?
Me and ton of others have 'rooted' Mi 9T with Playstore working with no issues
Sorry but seeing your post (new member, no info whatsoever, the unusual problem itself), you must have done something terribly wrong
If you installed custom ROM, did you (it's a MUST) FORMAT Data (not just Wipe - it's different thing in TWRP, and I'm not talking about wiping System etc) - one of the typical newbie mistakes?

Ok, I'm on Xiaomi.eu, too, but weekly (hence the latest 21.4.28, Android 11 beta, MIUI 12.6 - believe me, it's good).
With Magisk Canary, too, and I previously used SHRP but returned to TWRP (but that doesn't matter)
Xposed (not using) may cause you issues with SafetyNet and therefore with Playstore - you may try uninstalling
But yes, if you did Format Data (really Format, not Wipe), then first go again to TWRP/SHRP and Wipe Cache and Dalwik. Rebooting will take a time, be patient
If it won't help, uninstall Xposed and leave the clean Magisk
Also, I remember that there was a problem with Playstore not working - I think in some CN firmware and therefore also in some Xiaomi.eu version, but I don't remember details, hence don't know could it apply to you
Actually, reading your answer again, is your Xiaomi.eu 20.12.20 also their old Weekly (but four months old) or the so-called Stable?
And is it really Android 10 (but with MIUI 12.3)?
I don't recall now but I think that I switched from a Stable Xiaomi.eu (but from 20.11) to Weekly 20.12 at around that time, and that it was MIUI 12.3 but also already Android 11 (and I didn't have any problem with Playstore - actually never with my stock EEA MIUI 10-12, Stable Xiaomi.eu MIUI 12, Weeklies Xiaomi.eu MIUI 12.3-MIUI 12.6 - and I'm also always on the latest Magisk Canaries)

In Google Play, go to YT app, top-right, three-dots menu, Disable Auto-update (only for YT, not for all apps).
There is a Magisk module to detach apps from Google Play (did not use) and also an app (find info in XDA Vanced thread) to detach (did use, but found that just disabling auto-update for YT is enough for me)
