Discuss about kexec! - Fire General

Hi, I 'm, as a lot of XDA users, frustrated about the locked down state of the Fire HD tablets. I surfed the internet for a while trying to find a way to unlock those devices. And, why can't we unlock the bootloader by" kexec"? It sure is practically hard, but it had been done before. But, my knowledge on Android exploiting is pretty low, but there are veteran developers on this communty! Let's collaborate with this!
Any ideas and thoughts are welcome!

Wow glad you are on the job for this, nobody had even thought of trying to do this before you came along.
Glad there were no less than 2 other threads trying to find an exploit and talking about issues with implementing KEXEC on this device.

Hi, can you please refer me to those threads? I never saw them. Thanks!

Root Exploit Has Been Found. DO NOT UPDATE FURTHER

From the Android forums:
Root Exploit Has Been Found. DO NOT UPDATE FURTHER
So a new exploit has been discovered and devs are working on it.
What this means to you.
1. This WILL help for those who leaked to get root.
2. DO NOT UPDATE! This includes to the OTA when it is released.
3. Be patient, this was only discovered today and is only a possible exploit.
Possible root exploit zifnab06.net

second, did you not notice zifnabs post about 5 below yours? incase you missed it, here a link:

third, no root for leakers is guaranteed to work. an exploit has been found that MIGHT work not WILL.
fourth, no comment.

I would be more than willing to bet on it! To get so butt hurt just because someone repost some informative info on the internet, and for you to use such mean, degrading language shows everyone how immature you are over something that is such a small issue. Get a life!

Forum rules, please read!
There seems to be a significant amount of animosity of late in the Android related forums. I'm not certain as to why this is, nor do I want to hear any reason for justification; what I do know is that it is unacceptable.
XDA is about bringing together folks who have similar passions about mobile technology. As the forum is accessed worldwide, you will encounter all types of folks from different walks of life; some of these folks will be extremely technical, others not. In all cases, it is the responsibility of all members to remain respectful of one another. We all have different opinions, we do not all have the same level of knowledge, and some folks are looking to feel like they are learning while trying to contribute.
Show maturity and professionalism by responding with helpful and constructive information. There is absolutely no reason to respond in a rude tone or to make someone feel stupid ... it is not constructive and serves no purpose.
I would remind members that the best moderation is self-moderation.

Has progress been made on G2 Root?

I've noticed that the thinktank topics aren't getting as many posts. Have the coders here given up or lost interest in the G2 root? Is it too hard?
I'm surprised no one has found a break through yet, especially the CM team. I want to hear what the coders have to say. Do you guys think it'll get rooted? How much work will it take?

WOW calm down. I'm amazed people like you take the time to post this drivel.
OP asked an appropriate question. Although discussion has moved elsewhere, it is still reasonable to ask if anything new has happened, as those rooting threads used to be rife with information and discussion then they completely degraded into headbutting about GPL and whether HTC was in violation or not.
This is a forum to discuss G2 Development, after all, and OP was a G2 Development related question. Even if you disagree, do you really need to take the time to troll, insult, and act all tough-guy in a forum? Try to keep the peace. Move on if you disagree with the post or topic.
Yeah, well if you haven't been checking out the wiki on a day to day basis, it sure does look like the G2 Root process is at a halt. Even if you follow #g2root, its still pretty dead.
But people have been making small updates the the Wiki about whats going on, but I think the masses are no longer participating in the root, only the guys that know the most about it.
I understand why you didn't see any progress though, but for some reason, people around here have to be a **** when people ask questions that aren't obvious to people that haven't read the entire forum inside and out over the years.

Dude, its a discussion forum. If you only have time to look at the forum every few days, it DOES appear that nothing has happened. And I'm sure there was about 100 other people that were asking the same questions. The whole point of these threads is to communicate with each other.
The open source community isn't just for hackers and programmers. Regular people like to root there phones too.
I have to admit this place is full of douchebags.
People have the right to ask questions. It is a forum. We’re here to share information, opinions and help each others.
What gives u the right to judge or attack others? If you don’t want to help, simply don’t reply. It is that simple.
Back to the topic, I believe small progresses are being made. It is just matter of time.
Why is it that when ever some one asks about root on the G2 every one gets pissed off? I mean we are allowed to ask questions right? Lets not make this thread a dildo as well lmao

I know its not the same but...
When a new version of ubuntu is pushed out for beta testing, ubuntuforums hosts a development forum where everyone is invited to ask questions and participate. I'm not a developer but have used Linux for over 10 years at a few levels. I suggest that we approach rooting the G2 with the same enthusiasm and verve that the ubuntu community does with a new beta, RC, and release. If we start clamping down on asking questions no one will answer them either. I don't really think that's the purpose of this forum at all. We're all after the same thing. its either information or access to information. Humbly suggest we all seek ways to disclose and discuss and not "ivory tower" the information.
Thanks.

new project

Well based on the kick assity of the atrix I decided to upgrade to the Atrix HD. It's rough right now with a locked boot loader and no root but I'm making due. Kind of why I'm posting this. If anyone wants to help with rooting or unlocking on the Atrix HD theres a freenode irc channel #atrixhd-dev. Not my channel, just promoting. This phone is truly awesome and will be even better once we have control of it. Thanks for anyone that's willing to help or even looking at this!
There's an Atrix HD forum for a reason, nobody here really cares about this. :/
One dev from here did try to help. Didn't work out so well. Some of the devs over there are shady, dishonest, reckless, and bricked quite a few devices with their "research". Unfortunately, one of the mods deleted the posts that set the story straight. Be careful over there.
Pretty sure Atrix HD has its own section.
EDIT: Nevermind... Jumping in too late, lol.

We do not accept device requests

If you have and you want support for it, find a developer with the same device and ask for a port to it. We will not officially support any device outside of oppo/Nexus/OnePlus and begging on here for device support is a futile effort. We will not be accepting or acknowledging any more device requests.
Enough with the posts begging for device support.

I'm not the moron that posted a question about a kernel that has NOTHING to do with Paranoid Android, in a thread discussing NO DEVICE REQUESTS.
My response was perfectly sane and not rude. Yours proves you have issues regarding basic comprehension and common sense.
Perhaps you should learn how to use forums and stop lashing out at people asking about your inability to understand basic concepts of human interaction.
It's kind of funny that you seem to think you know me. You don't. My son is more mature than you are.
Oh and I'm locking this thread. If you want to continue to discuss how stupid you appear at this time, we can do so in a PM. Or we can just get a mod involved and have you removed from this forum.
You could have been kinder to begin with if you didn't want the response I gave you. A bit of patience and understanding im a very reasonable man, a point in the right direction would have been the kind thing to do. Clearly you are incapable of that and your response also clearly indicates getting on the defence means you must feel a little guilty about your response. I'm going to do the right thing and apologise to you for getting on my high horse. If you have any back bone you will do the same. And please don't threaten me in the future. There are thousands of forums with very helpful people, just decided to use XDA because the app is actually quite good and convenient. I am sorry for posting in the wrong forum, trust me I will never do it again if crap if what I have to deal with, a complete waste of everyone's time and energy, wouldn't you agree?
There was literally nothing wrong with my first response. There was nothing malicious or rude in it at all. Period. You are the one that got all butthurt about being asked why you were posting a completely unrelated question, in this forum section, within this topic.

This is not from a rooting team. This is from the italian company "Hacking Team" which is offering professional hacking-tools to their customers (also governments).
This company was hacked and all their exploits got published. This android stuff is one of many repositories with exploits of this company.

Yeah I'm aware they have root and they've had it for over a month with no release so they obviously haven't been successful in making it safe for everyone. Hopefully now instead of being a closed club we can have additional talented devs helping to speed the process along. It's not a slight against the guys that are working on it, but at the same time why limit ourselves to the 3-4 talented guys that are working on it when we have an entire community willing and (many) able to help.

Yeah mine unfortunately has been laying on my desk unused other than using the camera for the past couple weeks. I've been using my S6 in the meantime and grabbing the G4 when I know I'm going to want to take pictures. I want to like the phone and it's got so much potential but every time I swap my SIM into it within 20 minutes the same old problems rear their head and I use it for whatever I'm doing and then go back to the S6 :/

That's why I said they're very talented guys, the fact remains there are no results to show though. As I also said specifically, it's not a slight or disrespect against them in the least. I'm just pointing out that the more of these talented guys that we have working on it the better. I'm not sure why you feel the need to turn up in every thread pertaining to root for the G4 and try to derail it by ****ting on whatever the thread is about? Unless you've got a more constructive comment to provide I'd appreciate you not derailing this thread so that it gets closed as all the others have.
If I were able to come up with my own root method I would've. Since I'm not a developer and have little knowledge of these things I'd like to provide links like the one in the OP to those that can make better use of it than me as my contribution to the forum. If you have your own method of coming up with root or using the provided information usefully then please do, otherwise carry on.

Whether you think it wasn't, your comment was a dig at them. I don't "sh1t" on root threads. The only threads I input my frustration on are the people who keep repeating the same stuff that's been explained over and over again. You should take your own advice about constructive comments. Like I said, if you aren't happy with what the current devs are doing then find a root method yourself. They don't HAVE to do anything for us. They do this on their own time and don't have unlimited hours a day to work on things. Patience is a virtue. Root will be here within a couple weeks or less. If other devs want to take this and run with it, so be it, but it's not up to us to voice our opinions and commentary when we aren't donating any of our time and abilities in this community.

As a friendly suggestion, boosting1bar, maybe use "other" instead of "more" when positing something similar to this sentence, "Hopefully now instead of being a closed club we can have more talented devs helping to speed the process along." I get what you meant to say, but to some, it might read as a qualitative statement (as in developers with "more" talent than the ones being referred to), rather than a quantitative one (i.e. additional developers).

When I read your post, I saw how people could misinterpret it, but I thought about it like this; A nicely packaged one-click-root from the current devs would be great, but if I could have root tomorrow, I wouldn't mind needing to stick my fingers in the guts of the android like the old days.
I'll risk a brick for a quick and dirty solution!

I get that, but because of the way it was worded, it was clearly interpreted otherwise. Hence my suggestion.
As for "other" being more offensive, I'm not sure I see how, unless you elaborate. To me "other" would imply "other developers in addition to the ones mentioned." But I suppose there are always "other" ways to interpret it.
I will digress here, as I would prefer this thread be steeped in the semantics of rooting our common device as opposed to being bogged down in the semantics of intent.

Don't risk your phone. But if there was somebody who knew about the matter and could look up the app without having to install it, it would be good.
