Mi Note 2 Not Charging Properly - Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Questions & Answers

My mi note 2 isn't fast charging/charging properly. I bought it new and I've only been using it a couple of days. The first day the phone charged normally, both through quickcharge and regular charging. It drained to about 25% yesterday so I plugged it in whilst I used it, but noticed the percentage was going down even with the charger plugged in. Its now taking around 7 hours to charge fully. I have checked the charger cable, adapter and tried several different ones but I am still having the same problem. I've only had the phone a couple of days so I don't understand why the first charge would work but then the battery is struggling to charge after that.
I'm using miui 8.5.5.0 global stable version and haven't unlocked or installed any custom roms.
Can anyone help?

Your charging port must be dameged bro ,go to aliexpress and find ur phone parts there for cheep get it and install it if u dont know what you are doing take the part to the professionals and ask them to install it , or u cant also ship back the phone tonthe seller and ask him to refund or replacement (tho this is a much costlier affair which i dont recommend you)
P.s lets hope all gets sorted out soon and feel better about the purchase of this beautiful device
Cheers

Is there a way to check if it is the charging port before I go down this route?

Did the phone came with that OS version already installed?
When you plug it in, the lightning icon that's next to the battery icon has a circle around it?
Did you tried a factory reset?

The phone did an ota update to this version after I set it up. The lightning icon doesn't have a circle around it and it seems to charge slowly whilst turned off still as well

You charge with the original cable and charger , right?
If yes, try doing a factory reset or reflash using MiFlash.

Yes using the supplied cable and charger. I'll try a factory reset at the weekend when I have time to set up the phone again. Hopefully this will sort it as I'm not sure what else to do ?

Just keep it plugged in for 1-2 hours and then try booting in to try color screen bootloader and go from there.....
If you have MAGLDR installed then you can not charge the battery when the phone is off.
You should try to charge the battery using an external charger.
Edit: If you have a friend with HD2 and windows Mobile 6.5 then you could use the phone to charge you battery.
Wrong, you can charge it while it's off.

really? are you sure? because there are a lot of references to the magldr bug that wont allow charging (or even powering on without pulling the battery) if you try to charge with the phone turned off.
well i tried to charge for the last 2 hours nothing tried to remove battery nothing. Iam going to try and find a charged battery to see if the phone mite turn on or something. ill post later to let yall know what happen tho. thanks for the help.

Just give it a try man and see for yourself whether it charges or not....
what are you guys fighting about man, they just updated the magldr v1.3 and yeah we can now charge the phone while its off

Wrong x2.
1. No one is fighting.
2. With new magldr, phone turns itself on when plugged in. Charging when off is not possible. The battery requires management which is only implemented in software. It may hold a small charge if you have magldr installed, but it won't charge fully, or properly. Also, it's not likely he's got the new magldr if he's returning back to windows.
Lastly, for the OP, what method did you use to return to winmo? And which winmo rom did you use?

Find a way to charge your battery and everything it's going to be just fine.Your phone it is going to work.
Changing the battery should work.
I'm new here so basically with new 1.13 or later phone can't be charging if it's not turned on?

Read? Phone turns itself on if you connect a charger. Phone has NEVER charged while off with nand. This way at least you don't have to pull the battery to turn the phone on.
Sent from my HD2 NANDroid using XDA App
Just in case: If you on same situation that described on first post try this:
Q: If you completely run down the battery, would you be able to charge it with the phone again?
A: If your battery is dead, press and hold Vol Down and plug in USB cable / charger at same time. Phone will boot into bootloader and charge there just fine. Leave for 20 mins, pull battery, reboot and charge normally. If phone has just run down, plugging in the charger will usually turn it on.
Its found on one NAND thread and goals goes to g.lewarne
Actually i was on same situation and this helped on first try.
check the connection between battery and phone , the metal things i mean.
Perhaps, it is off the subject, but...
Poster #1: why do you want to get rid of this beautiful phone?
Just curious...
ok i bought another phone and i took out the charged battery from it and put it in the bricked HTC and it does nothing. now i know it was almost reverted back and i think the battery ran down but Iam not completely sure but maybe it could have been in the reverting software i used and maybe it just like lock up or something cause at that point you couldnt see the battery indicator. now i guess ill just have to sell on ebay for parts but it would be cool to try and un-brick it or try and figure it out.

[SOLVED] Nexus 4 dying at around 30% battery

Hey guys,
I noticed this yesterday my Nexus 4 (running PA 3.6, franco milestone 1) shut down at 30% charge. I went home and charged it (it showed 0 when I started charging it) to 100% continuously.
Today too the phone shut down when it was around 32-31% and now charging has again started from 0%.
What could be the issue?
I have tried the battery calibration app even though I know it does nothing.
Any ideas?

I have been flashing nightlies merrily on the Nexus4, never had to recalibrate the battery, though it sounds like your does need that. (I had a Desire HD before this, and it was very sensitive to errors in battery calibration)
How about if you charge the phone fully then either reflash the ROM or flash a nandroid backup you've made? Either of those options will overwrite the battery stats file - if that's the problem.
It could be that the chip in the battery is malfunctioning, ie a new battery could be needed, but that sounds much less likely

Okay I'll try reflashing the ROM when I'm at a 100%, I know deleting the batterystats.bin file doesn't do anything but I did that anyways yesterday, but it seems it didn't fix the calibration issue.
Any other ideas I could try while I charge my phone to a 100%?

Hi, @paul c, I would like to inform you that my phone's discharging just fine (charged it to a 100% last night and it's currently at 48%, I didn't reflash my ROM but I did reboot it once. I also haven't charged it since then)
Could you tell me what's the minimum and maximum battery voltage? I am guessing that the max voltage is around 4200mV but what's the minimum? Also, can we calculate the REAL battery %age from the voltage that is displayed by apps like DashClock? If we can do that could you tell me how/what formula we use to do that?
I know I'm asking a lot of questions and I would really appreciate any help here !
Thanks!

Hi,
I was inspecting the battery's voltage/charge the entire day today and I realized that at around 36% the voltage went around 3000mV (3100mV, Nexus 4's battery is rated at 3800mV and it maxes at around 4200mV). After that when I plugged it back in and turned it on it started charging from 0%.
I think the battery is at fault.
Is there any fix for this which does not involve replacing the battery?
Thanks!

Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I tried charging through the night and then discharging it completely and charging it completely again. I also tried deleting the batterystats file (even though I know it doesn't do anything)
So what do you suggest I should do? Get the phone replaced or get the battery changed?
I live in India and the phone is from Canada, so replacing the phone will take some time but I can get the battery replaced for around $20
Also my nexus is also showing +ve mA values while it's not charging, and the values are absolutely crazy, +268, +168, +1171 (in batter monitor widget)
Please tell me what I should do.

So you tried to disconnect the battery cable and reconnect it?
When you open the back case did you notice if the battery looks bigger/inflated? Maybe you should replace the battery.

Okay, I got my battery replaced, drained it to 0% (after a full charge) and going to charge it completely by the travel adapter that I purchased from the service center.
Attached are the pics of my old battery, I don't know if you can see it but it's swollen. If I recall I used a nexus s' charging cable to charge the phone from a computer and it was charging like AC (my kernel usb fast charge was OFF) and it also never detected my phone in the explorer (Windows)
My problem's solved now, it was a battery issue for me. I upgraded to PA 4.3 in the process by the way
So I guess I'll stick to my regular micro USB cable and charge via the travel adapter whenever possible, thank you everyone for your inputs!

[Q] Note 3 Charging only when turned off

Hello, i'am from france and i have a Samsung Galaxy Note SM-N9005.
When i try to plug the charger in phone ( Turned On), it doesnt recognize it. I tried to use it's USB 3.0 cable ( from the box) , doesnt work.
then i tried another samsung charger micro usb one, doesn't work. Then i tried to plug it in my pc, the pc doesn't recognize it.
The only way to charge it, is to turn it off... but it still have a strange way to charge.
When i plug the charger,it vibrate and then show me the grey battery, then the green one ( Normal way to show that's its charging).
After around 10 sec, it vibrate again ( like if i unplugged it) and it comes back to the grey battery, then green.... over and over...
It does this but it still charge my phone, and that's the only way i found to charge it.i dont know why it is charging when it is turned off and not when it is turned on?
Thanks in advance for your help

i have the exact same problem!!! It just started yesterday.
Do you use the original charger?
If you use a other charger with less power, the phone will not charge!
You need a 2Ah Charger.

Yes i understand, but i use the one that came with the telephone. Its the original samsung USB Cable 3.0 + the Charger.
I tried with the Charger from a Galaxy Note 2 ( usb 2.0) it still doesnt work.
It's a hardware problem.

As said is hardware issue. If your Note 3 is under warranty use it, because they will fix it. If not, go to a phone repair center and they should be able to fix it as well.
It might be the microusb from the phone, a friend of mine had something similar with his s2.Good luck!

Back up your data with your backup app of choice (Helium, Titanium Backup). Throw your backup file into dropbox.
Your photos should be backed up in drop box so don't bother.
Contacts are in your Google account don't bother with that either.
So I think it's just Music and movies if you're not using Play Music.
I would use sd card for back up, that's one of the reasons it's there. I backed up contacts on my old phone to Google and then for some reason couldn't recover it on new phone, maybe I did something wrong, but had no problem loading them them up from sd card. If you really hate to send it back (I would) you could open the back (search youtube, there are few videos how to), I think it's 8 screws and check if the charging board connector is loose. I wouldn't go much past that and would make sure there are no temper proof seals to disturb.
Hello how you solved this problem? I discover exact the same problem with charging on my n9005 today.
Pretty sure this is related to the software on this, not the hardware, unless they are all broken. I have recently sent mine in for the same reason, got new note 3 had it for a week now. But before sending it in i got a new battery, new cables, nfc charger and a cradle, to rule out all the chargers as a possibility. After getting the new one it worked fine until I updated after all updates came down now it wont charge again. I found that If I remove the battery and put it back in it will start charging from time to time but currently its off and charging sort of, Keeps starting to charge for about 5 min and then stops for about 10, and keeps this cycle. If anyone else has a new one and still getting this after Updates please let me know.

Problem fixed!
I had the same EXACT problem for a couple weeks. It clearly isn't a hardware issue if the battery actually is charging when off (FYI to anyone who needs a refresher on how technology works). Clearing the system cache took 30 seconds and worked! Here is how to do it:
Turn off the Galaxy Note 3.
Press and hold Volume UP + Home + Power buttons.
When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
In the recovery menu, navigate to ‘’wipe cache partition’’ with the volume buttons.
Press power button to confirm.
Once this is done, select reboot system now.
Requesting your help!!!! pls... Super urgent

So after a lot of reading online and understanding logically that if the hardware is screwed then the phone will not charge in the first place, I followed your steps and wiped my cache. I was literally keeping my fingers crossed that this will be the end of my long haul with this problem. However, the phone did not start charging after that and the problem still persists. I strongly believe that this is a software related problem as the phone functions fine and the battery life is also as it was before. Given this, I kindly request you to tell me if there are any other solutions or ways through which I can fix this issue? Your response is most appreciated and urgent.. HELP!!

Ok, wiping the system cache worked for about 2 hours. I was a little too excited. I just replaced the charging port and so far, so good. Make sure to buy the proper charging port; each one is different per carrier (e.g., mine is a SM-N900V for Verizon, SM-N900T for T-Mobile, etc.). The charge port was $11. You can find all carriers, except Verizon, on Amazon. I googled Note 3 replacement parts and picked the most legit looking website to order mine. Good luck.
did any one found out any solution for this
i am getting same grey battery sign over and over again when plugged into charger (Wall/USB 2.0/3.0) and its not starting with battery power, last time battery was charged to 86%

Thanks in advance for your help

battery problem

hello everybody, im nicolas from belgium (sorry for bad English)
I've tried recently to install new arymod port from s7
but my phone never want to go after the logo screen.
I tried something like flash the kernel of darklord ... nothing.
So i'm back with my arymod
All thing it's all right except one :
My phone take a very very long time to charge (after a night only 30%) AND the battery discharge quickly (10% 30min)
So i think my battery is dead ... if i buy a new the problem will be resolved or not ?
It's possible the problem comme from firmware, or anything else which can discharge quickly my phone?
Thank everybody !!
small edition:
My phone vibrated intermittently and battery charging icon remains permanently even when I remove the cable
Do a factory reset first and see if that fixes it.
How old is your phone?
It's 2 year old, how can i do that correctly?
kernel, modem, firmware, all

Are you using the same cable to charge and connect to pc with?
If so try another cable. Try also another USB port.
If nothing works then as suggested above, try another battery.
If that doesn't work either then it's probably the USB port in your phone that's bad.
Hi. Do a wipe /system /data /cache (i mean factory reset) for me it's always work Sorry i didn't read all... if battery won't charge its problem with USB in phone

thank you but the days before it worked properly, he loaded etc then a day later, nothing. so I assume that the problem of driver or usb is impossible, since it is the same component that I used
I buy this one https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00AR0NC8K/ref=pe_386181_138588631_TE_dp_1

Hello,
I come with bad news
despite the new battery, the problem persists, I think usb is then screwed or is it possible that this is a soft brick?
My phone is not recognized by the PC, not even "unknown ringroad"
So, and because it's been a while that I want, I'm going to change phone and I hesitated between grade 4 and s6.
Which do you recommend?
In my note 3, I would like to repair the same when my girlfriend.

No need to throw in the towel yet, you can order a new USB port for your note 3 on eBay for cheaper than the battery even, just search for "note 3 USB port" or check out this link:
http://m.ebay.com/itm/Charger-Charg...-Galaxy-Note-3-N9005-/390800694709?nav=SEARCH
You can change it really easy, it doesn't take more than 10 minutes, if you are unsure how to do it you can search for repair guides on YouTube or just click on this link:

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

If problem with port it can be discharging quickly as well, and it could also be the battery as it's 2+ years old, so keep your new battery.

So it's better if i dont use new batterie before change usb?
I would suggest you change the USB port first, but if you can turn the phone on you can use it throughout the day and see if it still discharges as fast as before.

I had to charge my phone 3 times a day and I thought something was wrong, but as soon as I got new battery it was perfect.

That charger is not original, what's the output rate on it?
As for battery life it all depends on what you do with the phone, it's not unusual if you play games or use something processor intensive.
Also the screen is drawing power, so set it to minimal brightness that you feel comfortable with.
Is your phone getting hot?

Charging problem since update to 7.0

Hi all Last night I had the OTA update to android 7.0 I am now having problems charging the phone with cable. I have it set so it makes a sound when you plug in and start charging. Since the update it makes the sound but then keeps doing it and keeps coming up on the screen fast charging. It keeps doing it over and over so you cant do anything with the phone while plugged in as it keeps coming up on the screen. It works fine if I put the fone on my cordless charger pad its fine.
Also keep getting a red line down the right side of the screen, sometimes for a few minutes sometimes for a few hours, this has been happening for a few weeks.
Any advise please

Try a factory reset.
Before a factory reset, try clearing cache.

Turn off your phone, hold power + home + up button for 5-10sec then wait for recovery mode, use volume buttons to navigate then look for clear cache and press power button to clear cache.
Thanks cleared the cache, now seems to be charging fine.

Interesting... I have recently experienced the *exact same problem*, tried different cables, and I was almost about to give up to desperation and panic of assuming the charging/usb pin became faulty...
Now I'm seeing a bit of hope on it.. will try to reflash a stock rom from scratch (including wiping everything) and see if that helps me, too.
If it does, I think we're looking at a Nougat kernel fast-charging bug here, that may be affecting certain hw models...
I had an online chat with Samsung and they have told me to take it to a service centre for them to look at it. Luckily there is one 20 miles away so will take it in on my next day off.
They said they will do most repairs on same day and it is still under warranty.

Don`t believe it took it to the shop he plugged it in and it charged fine. not sure if he used a fast charger or standard charger. He did say with android 7.o if you are charging with a fast charger and you use the phone it turns off fast charging and reverts to normal charge. But they are going to replace the screen because of the pink line down it and he said the charging port will be changed at the same time. Will be ready tomorrow, they did not have it in stock.
