How can I get a FM Radio App for Xiaomi MI A1? - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have tried this
Dial *#*#6484#*#* on your Xiaomi Mi A1, and it will open Hardware Test Mode on Your Device,
Now Just Scroll Down to the Bottom and Your will find FMRadio option, Just tap on that, and it will ask to insert earphone, just plug in the earphone and navigate the channels with the backward and forward button appeared on your device.
But this is a temporary method, is there any application for FM Radio available?

This app works. You need to be rooted.
Cheers

It's such a shame Xiaomi are withholding the Kernel as it's slowing down mods

It's work but no such app for using inbuilt radio

Yes we need the kernel source from this device . And personal think that Xiaomi have a problem with the kernel.
(And as always Xiaomi is really late with it)Than maybe we can port the X5 FM app to the A1 . Till now no legally app is available for the a1.
And maby Xiaomi will add the FM radio in the future . Is all to Xiaomi at the moment.
Keep in mind that we are lucky with this buget phone . Xiaomi is hard working on this device . On the 8.0 stable version. And we get enough updates in relative sort of time. Buy a Samsung or other brand and you can wait for weeks and weeks to get a proper update.
Please give Xiaomi a bit of time. I see alot of topics with people shouting about little things.

Spirit2 2015_12_12 it is NOT working on oreo (rooted, of course)

Spirit2 FM 2015_12_22 not working here too (oreo rooted).
ERROR: Tuner API did not start or stop.
This device may need a kernel with a working FM driver.
Have to wait for the kernel source code and a talented developer to make a patch I think.

[Q] Support for LG G3 with Cyanogenmod 12?

Hi, I've read that support for LG G3 is in the works but is or will there be support for the G3 running CM12?
I've just tested this, even bought the version from Play store and for me it doesn't work. Is there a Kernel requirement for FM radio which CM12 may not have? I could supply any log data you request.
Thanks and great work so far.
Yup, i confirm, doesn't work on lg g3. Pitty.

Sorry for my delay. I started a re-coding "marathon" on the weekend and it stretched for a week.
I intend to support the LG G3 as well as I possibly can, on any ROM. I have almost bought a G3 for testing a few times, but haven't gone through with it yet.
The CM12 kernel does not at present include the needed Qualcomm V4L FM radio "IRIS" driver.
I will try to submit the tiny 2 line config file change needed for that and see if they respond.
Someone built an FM friendly kernel and it worked, but there are/were still some audio issues. We can work around this with the new analog mode being added to Spirit2, and this should be properly resolved at some point.
Oh, thats great to hear.
For the Cyanogen part: They actually have a section in their bugtracker for FM Radio [1]. Once you have done that could you post the links to the pull request and the bug entry here. I will follow it and update my phone as soon as the fix is built. If there is anything I can do to help you please let me know.

OK.
Last night I submitted the same patch for Xperia Z1 and it seems well received. First time I ever built a CM ROM and it took a few days to get everything downloaded and built and figure out how to submit CM patches etc.
My response time to posts and emails has increased, and my responses are more brief, because I have decided to spend more time doing what needs to be done and less time talking about it.
WOW great news!!
Thank's very much :victory:

If you have the T-Mobile variant, I do not think FM can ever work for you.
As with the LG G2, only the Sprint and International variants have the FM antenna pin connected as needed to the headset jack for the antenna.
Other variants are purposely and permanently "broken" by shorting the pin to ground.
There was rumor here and there that other variants might work, but I think that was based on Spirit not showing a specific error at one point.
So, AFAICT, only the International D855 and Sprint's model.

I have built a CM12 based kernel that I think should work.
I do not have a G3 so I can not test it.
I can not make any guarantees that it will boot and won't harm anything.
This is a boot.img file. Anyone flashing it should understand how to flash such a file so I won't explain.
I will submit the patches to CM once someone can verify.

Great !
I did not touch the kernel config at all. I used this one, stock as of this morning, AFAICT: https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...0/arch/arm/configs/cyanogenmod_d855_defconfig
The config has this, unchanged:
Code:
CONFIG_RADIO_IRIS=y
CONFIG_RADIO_IRIS_TRANSPORT=y
All I did to patch/fix was this:
Code:
cp kernel/motorola/msm8226/drivers/media/radio/radio-iris-transport.c kernel/lge/g3/drivers/media/radio/radio-iris-transport.c
cp kernel/motorola/msm8226/drivers/media/radio/radio-iris.c kernel/lge/g3/drivers/media/radio/radio-iris.c
This copied the Qualcomm fix from the MotoG kernel source that allows radio-iris-transport to work built into the kernel, instead of only as a module.

I played around with it a bit more. FM worked like a charm, but several other things didn't work at all. Most importantly Settings crashed for me when I tried to open display settings. I assume that is because my CM is a little more than a week old while your build is just a few days old. I reverted by to my old boot.img but I will test the first nightly with your patch in it.

Maybe.
I've seen Settings crash on a few devices/ROMs.
Common AOSP Lollipop ROMs still have lots of problems.
They ALL have a nasty memory leak that gets bigger every time Spirit sends an RDS update to notification shade/remotes/lockscreen. I have to reboot my test phones every day or so to avoid unpredictable restarts when Android system_server fills its' internal table maxed at 51,200.
Stock Lollipop ROMs don't have this problem, so IMO must be some common bug in CM12 I think. (I could/should verify if Nexus/pure AOSP shares this.)
Well, it doesn't look too good. They seem to want this as a loadable module, which you explicitly stated different in your commit message. Any ideas an what to do next?

Yes, I think so, it's just taking me a long time to do it.
The patches I provided WORK. The complaint was that IF they re-configure the kernel to use modules, then the kernel will not build and he did not like that.
Many kernels have removed modules now and it is rare to go back to modules, so I find this a bit strange, but I am not the one maintaining kernels.
The patches were not really "developed" by me. I just grabbed the very similar files from the MotoG CM12 kernel thinking they would not complain; it was just aligning the code between CM12 kernels.
My plan since the patches were rejected is to use the files from (I think) a Sony CM12 kernel that I think should work with or without modules.
But I have had a LOT of trouble getting d855 kernels and ROMs to build since my initial changes that worked AND it can take hours to build a new ROM and I still have not figured out how to build just the kernel, which is much faster.
This is the problem I had last night and the night before and I am not a ROM dev so it takes time for me to figure out what is wrong or how to fix (maybe a "make clean" or similar"):

With troubles like these, and ROM builds taking hours and my lack of a G3 to test, this is moving slowly.
Add the fact that I am exhausted from the last few months of MORE major changes to Spirit2, some time spent with my family and looking into Android Auto and things move even more slowly.
...And the build guide for G3 seems to have disappeared too: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Build_Guides#vendor=%22LG%22;
...And... any chance you know the OFFICIAL CM12 way of switching between module and non-module kernels ? I know the defconfig "CONFIG_MODULES=y" thing, but I'm not sure if other changes are needed. I can do a "make menuconfig" but I'm not sure if I should write .config to the defconfig. "make config" gives a million options; I tried that and produced a kernel that probably won't even boot on a G3.
Perhaps I should post in a G3 forum section asking for help.
I posted on that patch now: http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/90794/

Thank you very much!

It's the old story of lack of kernel source. Historically kernel sources have been released about 3/4 months after global rom availability, which happened a few days ago.
It doesn't help that availability all round has been limited for these. With so many people wanting the global edition and there being shortages of that model there's just not that many of these around at the moment in the hands of people that want to mod it. MIUI is very popular in China.
I'm hoping another 3-6 months we'll start to see some serious progress.
Luckily it's in the same device tree as a few other recent releases so there's some level of cross compatibility, lithium (Mi Mix) for example would require only minor modification to work and there seems to be more dev interest in that,
I did consider making a cooked MIUI rom for the Mi Note 2 (inc. xposed, root, a few tweaks here and there) but there didn't seem to be much demand and realistically if you want those features you already get them yourself without any real struggle.
I'm an old dev for CyanogenMod on Xperia.
I will try to put Lineage OS when the source of the kernel will be available.
A port can be possible with the source of the One Plus 3t (i supposed) but is better to wait official release of the kernel.

These Lineage builds are by HondaJohn88 who I'm working with.
I've been bugging him to post them himself (when he does I'll get the old thread locked) but he hasn't yet.
Be aware that not every build he uploads is one that he's planning on sharing (or even an improvement over the last) - occasionally things break and some are more for archiving than actual use.
He shares his work in the Mi Note 2 Telegram group so I'd recommend joining so you can find out which build would be the most worthwhile.

Community development strength

You're a power user. Can the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 keep up? Rate this thread to express how "healthy" the development scene is for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. A higher rating indicates available root methods, kernels, and custom ROMs.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The phone is excellent. One of the best designs I've ever seen on a phone. However battery life is okay for a power user like myself. Really hoping lineage OS or anything AOSP launches for better battery optimization.
I having it for one week and i love it already... 6.4" would have been nice to have, but it's awesome nevertheless.
At the moment i'm trying to build los15 from source for it, but the proprietary blobs are an issue i haven't figured out yet. If anyone has some pointers how to get them, i'd be three commands closer achieving it.
Happy Hunting.
Xiaomi phones usually have a rich custom ROM community as they are bootloader unlockable and they usually get the kernel and sources released in some months after launch. We already have alpha-ish ports of Mokee, ResurrectionRemix and Lineage for Mix2 and right now the ultrasonic proximity sensor and notification lights are the only major broken features which require some code from the kernel/source.
MIUI 9 - Epic ROM or the EU rom is not a bad first ROM to rock around until development catches up.

Hi,
Sorry, but what you are writing is not perfectly accurate.
All the Custom ROMs (and not the MIUI derivatives like EPIC, Xiaomi.eu, mi-Globe, MultiROM or miuiPro) have a major problem and that is : they are assigning a random MAC Address to the device for Wi-Fi. Whci basically means that, if you're connecting to a secured router that identifies your device with it's MAC address, you won't have permissions to connect to that router...
Another thing that should be mentioned is that, except Mokee, the other customs ROMs also have a major problem : Bluetooth Audio is not working. We're digging into that problem to try to solve it (and it seems it is indeed solved in my latest own build of AquariOS that I will not publish until the MAC address problem isn't solved)... But that is quite a problem.
And mind you, but saying that the proximity sensor is the only thing not working and selling it as a "minor" problem... Well, on a tablet, maybe. But on a phone ? Unless, of course, you like your phone to hang up on your speaking partner because you accidentally pressed a button as the display didn't dim while you were in a conversation.
But I hope those problems will indeed soon be solved thanks to kernel sources being published by Xiaomi.
So far, I am running mi-Globe (7.11.9 at the moment) and it's quite a good ROM... I've hidden MIUI under a custom launcher and installed XPosed and Xposed Edge to be able to configure my fingerprint scanner as a home button (+2 other actions configured for the FP Scanner). Perfectly happy with it so far...

Hi,
Yes, it works.
mi-Globe is MIUI 9 based on 7.9.11 China and 7.1.1 Android.
To use XPosed there's a simple trick. Jus follow these steps :
- 1°) download and install the "Xposed_installer" APK (latest is 3.1.2 I think) ;
- 2°) once it is installed, open it, go to "Settings" and check the "Disable resource hook" box ;
- 3°) reboot your phone to recovery and into recovery install the Xposed API 25 ;
- 4°) reboot your phone... launch XPosed Installer... Ta-Da... There you go
Works with SuperSU and with Magisk (if you take the correct sources for both of course !).
Regards.

LOS 15.1
What do you think are the chances of this device getting support for Project Treble in the future, either from an official implementation with the MIUI 9.5 update or unofficial community port? I'm on the verge of purchasing this device but the lack of Treble is the only thing holding me back at the moment. Treble will be revolutionary for custom ROM support in 2018 and so it wouldn't make sense for a flashaholic like myself to purchase a device without it.
I already bought the device, but I would really like treble support for this phone
we have to get O first, so calm down for a bit
have a nice day

Fair enough. I'm just unsure what to do at the moment because I want to buy this phone but don't want to invest in something that won't receive Treble support in a few months time. Maybe I should just wait and see what the Mi7 has to offer, as that will come with Oreo pre-installed like the Mi MIX 2S. Hopefully it won't come with a notch.

Why do you care about treble so much for a device that already has AOSP support ?, N Based ROMs are fully stable-ish at this point, O based ROMs will follow after Miui O update, so treble wont do that much for us
but if you end up getting Mix 2S or any other device with treble support, you dont have to wait for devs to support to your phone, just unlock & flash GSI builds, Treble is still a hit or miss follow Honor/Huawei devices forums for more info's

Thanks. I was interested in Treble mainly because it would allow flashing Treble-based ROMs that could be installed on any device. When Android P comes around it would mean getting it a lot quicker than if the phone did not have support for Project Treble. Still, it's good to know that all the currently available ROMs for the Mi Note 3 are stable and Oreo ROMs will be coming shortly. It looks like Oreo is scheduled for mid-April so there isn't too much longer to wait.
I cannot wait to see treble ported for our mi note 3
I'm starting to think xiaomi won't release an Oreo MIUI for Mi Note 3. If that's the case, will we be forever stuck in nougat? I thought if our device get treble supports, upgrades to later Android Versions (P, Q, and so on) will be assured. But it's like hoping for an Oreo ROM is already too much
Hey,Can anyone please guide me how to build an Oxygen OS for the Mi Note 3?It would be of great help... regards

Are you using it?
Mine arrived last Friday. Using it now with stock ROM 11.0.6 (EEA), but bootloader unlock is on the way (damn seven days of delay....)
Will try xiaomi.eu beta MIUI 12 ROM once my bootloader is unlocked tomorrow in the evening. I used that on my Mi 9T Pro, and it worked well there.

I'm waiting for the bootloader time frame to pass so it can be unlocked (3 days to go). A close friend has done it and he is loving it. It has to be the miui 11 eu stable rom. The miui 12 eu rom is om hold due to a problem with a Qualcomm update. Tutorial and steps to follow are on the page xiaomi eu. The moderators there have confirmed that the rom for the redmi k30 pro has the same code and it is full compatible with the poco f2 pro. Code name of the rom is "Imi".
Cheers ?

It may be a coincidence, but the update has been suspended at the same time they announced android 11 beta 1 for our device, mi 10 and mi 10 pro. So it might be because they are working on that

Wait. They just put version 12 on hold due to an issue with the Qualcomm chipset. They are waiting on an update from Qualcomm. Check before you flash.
Cheers ?

Yep, saw that. Quite unfortunate, but i assume updates will return next week, since the Qualcomm baseline update should take 3 weeks.
For the time being, i'll use the version from May 24th.
The xiaomi.eu rom is OK, better than the standard Chinese Xiaomi Rom if you are wanting to use it outside of China. However it is not great (some very peculiar permissions requests and a lot of things are (purposefully?) unclear) AND the xiaomi.eu site owner and devs are arrogant toxic egotists which does not inspire high levels of trust.
Not sure what the Qualcomm issue affects as I have been using the 20.5.21 MIUI 12 beta on my Redmi K30 Pro without any noticeable issues.
(Recovery is modified TWRP from the Xiaomi.eu ROM, Magisk works, Google stuff works, EdXposed works (as does XPrivacy Lua seemingly).

Flash miui 12 and give feedback
Thanks XDA. I love my new K30 Pro Zoom Edition
Still waiting for them to unlock my Redmi K30 Pro Zoom (6 days and counting). Also, I really want to get rid of the stock rom as I'm not a fan of the bloatware, as I cannot understand the Chinese language. I hope the MIUI12 from XiaomiEU got rid most of those, while waiting for an AOSP, Lineage or Paranoid Android roms. (Hopeful that the devs will turn their attention to this flagship killer. ?
Great to finally see a forum for f2 pro I finally got boot loader unlocked but the custom recovery for the K30 leaves alot to be desired plus I don't know Chinese so I wasn't sure what I was doing I'll wait til someone developes a proper TWRP (hopefully TEAM-WIN)
