[SOLVED] WiFi Completely Broken … - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Below is my original post; however, I've since solved the problem. In an effort to help others with the same problem, I've written a Guide, which should explain exactly what to do if your WiFi is suddenly "broken" due to flashing issues.
Here's the link: OnePlus 5 WiFi Fix
Many thanks to everyone who offered help, especially subaash and hallo dare, who put me in the right direction.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings, everyone.
Sadly, for specific reasons unknown, my WiFi appears to be completely broken.
Over the last few days I've gone "flash happy" by trying several Oreo ROMs for my OP5. Some worked while others just froze at the boot animation.
Unfortunately, shortly after flashing the xXx-NoLimits Oreo ROM, which got me to the initial set-up screen, my WiFi would not connect. So, I then bypassed the WiFi part and finished the set-up. Everything seemed to be working very well, but I could not get WiFi to work.
Yes, I could engage the Wifi slider to the ON position, and there would be a list of SSIDs; however, oftentimes even my 2 SSIDs would not display. When they did, and I tried to connect, I would see the connection attempt, but it would not complete the connection. Only the word "saved" would be shown under the SSID name. Then it would automatically try to reconnect, but without success.
I've tried virtually everything I can think of to solve the problem, but I can't connect to WiFi.
All other communications work, i.e., Bluetooth, Data, making and receiving calls. It's ONLY the Wifi that's not working.
Yes, I completely wiped my device and re-installed the original OxygenOS (4.5.14), but that didn't work. I also tried completely wiping the device and then installing that latest OxygenOS v4.5.15, but that didn't solve the problem, either.
I went back and flashed all the previous custom ROMs in an attempt to see if any of them would work, but nothing. I tried NitrogenOS, HalogenOS, Liquid Remix, xXx NoLimits, and they all could not connect to WiFi.
I even tried a few WiFi Fix apps on Google Play, but they didn't work, either.
Oh, yes … I even checked my router. It's perfectly fine. I can get WiFi on my laptop without a problem. Furthermore, when I went to a local coffee shop this morning that provides free WiFi, my phone could not connect, just like at home.
Does anyone have ANY suggestions?
Thank you,
Peter

I would say this is to do with your firmware/modem.
I did have this issue on a non Oreo ROM and in the end I just did a dirty flash and it worked.

I've tried flashing both the 4.5.14 and 4.5.15 firmware, with no luck; however, I accidentally deleted my modem nandroid about a week ago.
Do you know where I might find a flashable modem file?
Thanks,
Peter
Addendum: I found the following site for Firmware & Modems:
https://www.jamal2367.com/?dir=OnePlus 5/Firmware + Modems/Android 7.1.1/OxygenOS
I'll try flashing them and report back.
Addendum 2: NOPE! Didn't work. I flashed a few different firmware & modems, 4.5.13, 4.5.14 and 4.5.15, but WiFi is still broken. Yes, I first flashed the appropriate OS version before flashing the firmware and modem. In other words, I always matched the OS version with the firmware & modem version, but no success. Everything works except WiFi. Hmm, still stumped.

Careful with modems mate. There's a thread here on XDA containing modems and firmwares..just make sure you get the right one.

Thanks! I'm quite aware of the need for caution with modems. Sadly, though, it didn't solve the problem.

yea my freind in idia s 1p5 was flasing anything and his oneplus 5 got weird but turns out ok googles cousin hey google had a hangover, i cleared her cache and threatened her with king root & she slowed her role, i asked her why her cousins voice is so shot out,she said ok google has a hi and low voice cuz she burnt out but now ok google took my vpn and dipped to inda for some oneplus christmas party. what ever just watch out for hey google, cuz if you got volte 5g and a vpn they b will go offline and dipp with your vpn to india. i guess india likes oneplus. hold up this is the be delighted thread?

Sadly, no. I've tried absolutely everything I can think of, all without success. It's very frustrating because absolutely everything else works, except WiFi.
All I can do now is wait for suggestions from others, or take the phone to a repair shop (which I'm hesitant to do).
Peter

Thanks for replying. If you happen to get it sorted, please let me know. I will do likewise if I manage to fix it. Thanks

Try reflashing the rom. Not sure why, but that happened to me and reflashing the rom fixed it.

Do you have a full rom backup? I mean of the last working rom you had before all the flashing? If so, from a full stock rom (1.53gb or close) of the same build as the backup (ie... 4.5.14) wipe and flash that rom, then wipe and restore the backup you have if the last working rom. If they doesn't work I think you're likely looking at a hardware issue.

So first of all the reason why it is broken is because of the oreo firmware that you flashed earlier. Now what you should do is flash stock recovery and flash the oreo build and boot it up and running. Once you've done that flash the rollback rom (which suppose to downgrade your oreo firmware to nougat firmware). Once you've done it basically it fixes you're wifi issue.

There's a button for that son..
Also the firmware / modem will be the problem, either upgrading or rolling back..either way it'll be the cause.

Okay, let me first answer a couple of questions. Like I said in my first post, I DID flash the original ROM, as well as other OEM OxygenOS ROMs, all without success. Yes, I used the exact same ROM that was working perfectly before the problem. Yes, I also had a FULL Nandroid of the working system, but restoring that also did nothing to solve the problem.
Okay, with that out of the way, I went to a repair shop this morning to try and solve the problem. It was unsuccessful. The technician said it's unlikely to be hardware related because I can still get the phone to recognize all local SSIDs. I simply can't connect to any of them. Just like hallo dare said in his post a few back, when I try to connect to my SSID, it tries to connect for a second or two, and then it just shows "saved" and wifi is disabled.
So, for now I'm still completely stumped.

Okay, I will do exactly what subaash said and report back. I, too, agree that it's probably software related, which is why I'm actively attacking this issue.

P.S. "Son?" Hmm, I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm older than you (will be 60 in March).

Success ... maybe?
Well, well. It appears the previous suggestions were correct. So far it's successful, but I haven't quite finished the initial set-up. All I can say is that WiFi is working, and I'm grateful for that.
However, it was a frightening ordeal. At one point I thought my device was bricked, and I didn't know what to do. However, with some thought, I was able to solve the problem.
Good news, though, is that I DID NOT have to revert back to Nougat. I'm now running Oxygen Oreo 8.0.0 Open Beta 2.
I will provide a detailed instructions of what I did a bit later. I simply want to get everything up-and-running, which could take a few hours.
Here's an abbreviated version:
Downloaded Oxygen Oreo 8.0.0 Open Beta 1 from here:
http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-5/oneplus_5_oxygenos_openbeta_1/
Downloaded Stock Recovery from Post #2 here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/official-oxygenos-4-5-2-7-1-1-ota-t3627003
Copied both files above to root of device internal storage
Reboot into TWRP recovery
Flashed stock recovery in TWRP
Reboot into stock recovery
COMPLETELY Wiped the entire system ... absolutely everything ... including internal storage. This is where I had the initial problem. I did not wipe everything, including internal storage, and I ended up with a mixture of jumbled numbers and letters when looking at the file structure.
Using ADB Sideload within the stock recovery, I "moved/flashed" the ROM ZIP to the device
After successful sideload, I said yes to installing the ROM
The ROM then installed and, voila, I'm at the initial set-up screen.
Okay, that's all for now. I'll be back later.
Peter

Format data resolves the problem (at least with me...)

[Q] Wifi broken, can't seem to fix it

Hiya,
Using the international i9505 LTE, I tried flashing faux's kernel today, and everything appeared to be working. I also then flashed the xposed framework/some modules. Afterwards, I realised my wifi wasn't working anymore, and disabling the xposed framework didn't help. I also tried flashing the ausdim kernel which didn't work, as well as flashing my modem file, and the apparent wifi fix files multiple times, none of which solved the problem.
I have a nandroid backup, but would rather not restore it atm as it was made a while ago and I don't want to restore all the apps and stuff, so does anyone have any idea how to go about solving this problem?

Basically yesterday I had the same problem, flash after flash didn't help. Can tell you exactly, what I did:
Found factory version of my firmware in my region (SEB Baltics for me, MGA). Then I reinstalled TWRP recovery through ODIN, wiped everything I could, after that flashed stock firmware 2 times consecutively (no reboot in odin, reboot manually after first flash and flash again).
After that everything went fine, and Wi-Fi started working again. MH1 custom ROM right now, going ok.
Googling seems to suggest having to reflash stuff multiple times (I've seen someone say they flashed their stock rom 11 times wtf), and there doesn't seem to be any set procedure that gets the flash to work... Did you also flash multiple times before this last run worked? Perhaps you just got lucky and it worked the last time? (I assume no one tries to bork their wifi and test if their last routine works again for them).
I'm asking mainly because I don't want to go through the hassle of reflashing the entire rom again; would it be correct to say that wifi is just contained in the modem/radio file, and I should try spam flashing that?
No. WiFi drivers are in the kernel, not the modem. If you were going to flash anything, you'd flash a kernel/rom.

I suggest you use titanium backup to bakup your apps, it's not a tough job as you thought. that might be the easiest way, although some data can't be backup.

Welp, bluetooth had no problems whatsoever. It was only the wifi, which didn't want to turn on. Now everything is ok.
Well, finally got around to reflashing stock as Gh0stR1pp3r suggested, which worked. Thanks
Nandroid, kernel flashing, and modem flashing all didn't work. No clue why. I flashed the ausdim kernel again and it worked this time around, so it's just weird I guess? :S
And unfortunately I seem to have messed up the titanium backup somehow, I can't seem to find any of the stuff I thought I backed up Oh well

Problems CM based roms

Hi I got problems with my lux on every cm based rom. On every cm rom I get no reception of my carrier. I don't know if it's a device tree issue or just apn trouble. Since there are no aosp roms, I'm a little hung up. Stock rom works fine. I own the xt1562 operating on German carrier o2. Sometimes I get a few seconds of reception on cm roms, but it's leading just to no signal after a few seconds again. I nearly tired everything, flashed a different firmware etc. When I've flashed a rom I get the information that no sim card was found. After I restart the device he's asking for a pin. Also tried another sim card with the same result. Really could need some help.
flash the original fimrware from ur carrier or region
flash twrp
install cm and see if works
if not, flash only the radio modem from original firmware
Already did. Didn't work. Flashed the new cm12.1 from h2o64. This one is working.
I have the exact same problem with my XT1562 I bought from Germany through Moto Maker.
I installed h2o64's CM build from 10-10 after a full wipe (everything except internal data), and never got any proper signal. I tried squid2's CM build 10-12 as well, to no avail. Installing the XT1562 EU stock firmware following the linked explanation in the stock firmwares thread I had good, working signal, but then installing h2o64's CM build 10-14 with a factory reset rather than a full wipe resulted in the same issues described in this thread again.
I've read about these issues in different threads, mostly resolved somehow by installing the stock firmware, sometimes by selecting LTE as the preferred network type. I've tried these suggestions, but haven't had any success, and I don't know how to proceed.
Did I install the right stock firmware? (I would think so as it worked while it was installed.)
Did I forget to do something (like wipe, fix permissions, reboot the phone three times, howl at the moon,...)?
I use OpenGApps rather than tkruzze's since they're available in x64 as well so I can use them on all my devices. But that surely can't be it?
I'm at a complete loss at the moment, which is rather frustrating. Can anyone provide any help?
Gesendet von meinem Nexus 9 mit Hilfe von XDA Forums Pro.
I managed to install h2o64's CM build 10-14 and getting proper signal now.
I flashed the RETASIA firmware from XMoDuLeSx's Official stock firmwares added for xt1562,xt1563 thread following the instructions linked in the first post, and then after a wipe of system, data, cache, dalvik-cache I installed [ROM][lux][5.1.1] Cyanogenmod 12.1 - 2015-10-14 [UNIFIED].
Keep in mind that I have ordered my Moto X Play from Germany, so it shouldn't require a RETASIA firmware. I'm not advising to install this, as it was nothing but a shot in the dark that surprisingly didn't brick my phone. Still, I wanted to share that I got it working after all, simply to follow up my previous post properly. Should the signal break again, I'll update this thread; if I haven't, assume that it's still working.
Either way, though: If you decide to go down this road and install a firmware that isn't right for your phone and brick it, don't come to me. I'm advising against doing this.
Seems i'm having the same issue...
I did all the wipes and clean installs but I can't connect to my carrier.
Although my phone only supports one sim card, settings shows two. The first one is the one i'm using and it is displayed correctly. The quick settings tile though tells me that there is no sim card inserted.
I came from stock, unlocked, flashed TWRP from squid2's kernel page, rooted, flashed CM(squid2), kernel(squid2) and OpenGApps.
Did I do something wrong?
Is there any news on how to fix this problem or do I have to try again and again an hope to hit the spot?

You need two more posts before you can post this in the CM thread from squid2. Squid2 is always fast with bugfixes. So make 2 other post and then explain your problem to him.

Bluetooth & Nougat SIM Card Issues

Hey XDA peeps!
I recently got meself a G4 Plus (32/3 GB, XT1643), and everything has been totally fantastic, except for this: connecting to a Bluetooth device is almost impossible, and using any 7.1 ROM causes SIM errors.
I've been able to connect to my Android Wear watch, but that's about it. I got Motorola's VerveLoop+ headphones too, and it connects to everything but my G4+. I tried multiple things, reflashing the modem file (NON-HLOS.bin), flashing stock ROM, flashing multiple ROMs from the forums (CM, RR, BS, AOKP), none of them fixed the problem.
I'm currently using RR 5.7.4 (MM), and 5.8.0 (N) recently came out. I tried updating but it doesn't read my SIM after the process. I tried flashing the 7.0 "soak" ROM or whatever it is, but nothing, same issue over and over again. I tried a full format and flashing RR alone through TWRP but same thing.
So, what do? Any help on either would be very much appreciated.

I have multiple Bluetooth devices and connections all day long and I'm on RR 5.8.0 atm but no issues like you happened to me ever(XT1642, MM stock modem). Maybe with flashing you messed up the modem so sim detection etc. Is gone? Did you tried to separately flash the M modem?

Tried it before and tried it just now, and still nothing... Right now I'm more concerned about the Bluetooth thing, its bumming me out. I reverted back to RR 5.7.4 from a backup, but even on 5.8.0, Bluetooth wouldn't work.
Anyone know what to do?
So if I understand correctly Bluetooth has never worked properly for you ever since you bought the phone?
If that's the case and it doesn't work even with stock firmware you should consider hardware fault.
I would put stock back and try to get it serviced.

No what happened is that after flashing RR, the thing stopped working. I tried reverting back and it's the same. It's not that Bluetooth isn't functional, I can connect to my laptop and my Android Wear watch, but it won't connect to my Bluetooth headset (the VerveLoop+ as I mentioned)

I don't really know, I was looking for a workaround and I backed up my RR 5.7.4 ROM, then when I hit restore it wouldn't work, so I flashed RR 5.8.0 just to see what will happen and it got fixed... Really odd how that worked...
Edit: Never mind it, it went back to how it was after restoring my backup properly. I tried updating but it didn't work. For 7.1 issues, I'll just wait until the official update and flash the modem file for it, I really hope it works.

OP2 rebooting randomly

Hello there!
My boyfriend is experiencing random reboots on his OnePlus 2. (He doesn't have an account here, so that's why I'm writing instead.)
He is running the latest LineageOS, though has had the reboots since the build from Jan 31st. He has root active and is also running the latest Boeffla Kernel.
Weirdly enough we can't pinpoint what is causing the reboots and they seem to happen more frequently in the mornings (when he's at work) than in the afternoons/evenings (when he's home). This morning alone he had four reboots shortly one after another.
It also seems to happen more frequently when the WiFi is turned on but not connected. When the WiFi is turned off completely it also happens, but not so often. When WiFi is connected, the reboots seem to stop?
He suspects it has something to do with LineageOS, as he was on OxygenOS previously (before the official LOS builds got released) and didn't have any issues. I found in the forums here it could have something to do with the firmware version 3.5.6 and reverting back to 3.1 or something would stop the random rebooting? (Unfortunately I have found nothing on how to determine your firmware version, but his Baseband version is MPSS.BO.2.6.2.c1-00072-M8994FAAAANAZM-1.82470.1, if that helps?)
So I just wanted to ask if anybody is experiencing the same and if you can confirm the firmware change helps or if you found any other solutions for this?
Thanks a bunch!
Confirmed for me! Changing back to 3.1.1 firmware stopped the reboots

Can you just flash the 3.1.1 firmware or do you need to take any precautions? Anything you need to know before flashing?

It seems to have done the trick. Thank you very much!
Glad if I helped. It was bugging me for awhile as well, although I coped with it by turning off WiFi when I was away from home. Never rebooted for me if I turned it off, but this is much better. I have no real need for volte anyways, so no loss here.

Try resetting your network or just wipe your device and do a clean install. I have used every rom available for the Leeco Pro 3 and have never encountered this issue.

What internal folders? If you do the full wipe, including formatting storage there aren't any internal folders that would have access to that would cause this kind of problem. Beware, do not format your internal storage unless you have a permanent Twrp Recovery partition. As long as you have the recovery partition there is no danger with formatting your storage.
What you are describing is related to your device ID. Are you also experiencing sim card, or bluetooth issues?
Have you flashed various basebands, chinese roms etc?
It sounds as if your EFS is possibly corrupted. If that is in fact the case you should take a look at this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/guide-how-to-downgrade-jui-restore-bands-t3622639
Another possible scenario is the issue stems from a corrupted installation of adb, Mac spoofing, or local network issues due to an improper static ip configuration, which can definitely result in duplicate MAC addresses on your network.

MAC: The MAC-Address identifies the corresponding network interface. Hence it is globally unique (aside maybe from some „Fakes“ and „NoName replicas“). WiFi and Bluetooth have each their own MAC address. Starting with Android-6, only system apps have access to it, all other apps just receive the default value "02:00:00:00:00:00"2; on older Android versions the permission ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, ACCESS_WIFI_STATE resp. BLUETOOTH is required to access it (requested by ca. 70%, 30% resp. 10% of all apps).3

Your EFS partition is hidden, you would not see it with root explorer. I will not be able to check back to see you answer until later tonight.
(approximately 7 to 8 hours from now)
You have an X720?
So you were on stock EUI and then went straight to a custom rom?
You have flashed, AICP, and Twrp and Gapps right? Which version of Twrp?
How long have you owned the phone?
Have you tried simply resetting the phone?
I can suggest a few things, So lets start with the basics, in my experience it's usually something simple that causes a big issue.
Potential Solution
Go here and download file: http://www.teamsuperluminal.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/le_zl1_x720_mod.zip
Boot into Twrp and flash reboot,
Let me know if this resolves the issue.

You have an X720?
Yes, with 23s stock bought in Banggood.
So you were on stock EUI and then went straight to a custom rom?
First the WiFi stopped working and the phone restarted. And he fixed it by restarting the phone. Then I tried to reset the factory and the phone was fixed but then it failed again and finally I changed the ROM, it lasted a day and it failed again. And now I'm like the video without bluetooth or wifi.
You have flashed, AICP, and Twrp and Gapps right? Which version of Twrp?
This TWRP 3.0.2-v4 para LePro3 X720 unofficial de YDDS
What version of TWRP is the better?
How long have you owned the phone?
Like 4-5 month
Have you tried simply resetting the phone?
Yes, factory reset, all wipes, format data, reseting network, apps etc.
My phone is creating logs....
[1922:F :HDD] hdd_driver_init: WLAN Driver Initialization failed
<3>[ 45.130417][01-03_01:30:44 UTC] [WiFi-0x2304]wlan: driver load failure

There truly is no reason why that files shouldn't load, try it again and immediately afterwards create a log report and upload it. I would bet you have a permissions issue., or a possible hardware issue> more likely permissions.
First, you need this version of Twrp:
PHP:
https://twrp.me/leeco/leecolepro3.html
" Download Links"
You can update Twrp with in twrp - choose to instal from image if you downloaded an .img file or as you know Zip its .zip
Have you reflashed Magisk?
You should do that first, to ensure that your issue is not permissions related?
Next, reflash the file from the last post, if it fails get the log file.
Do you have a recent full backup? If not try to create a full backup.
With your issue, Titanium backup would be great, this way if the issue persists, you will have a way to restore your apps and cloud based data.
Ideally, you need to do a full wipe. With the correct newest version of Twrp, ( linked above)
Newest official Gapps: 8.1 arm64 is now available:
PHP:
http://opengapps.org/
Newest version Rom of choice ( Lineage, AICP, Pixel, AOSIP)
As of Mar 1, 8:20 pm EST :Lineage is the most up to date. But all of the recent versions of 8.1 are great.
Hopefully this helps. If not, it's definitely a hardware or EFS issue.
EFS issues can sometimes repaired with Qfil. Personally, I save myself the hassle of uncertainty and contact Bangood for a warranty repair or replacement.

I just reviewed your post history and I see alot of good advice was given.
I assume you followed all advice.
I was not aware that you started having this issue originally on the stock rom???
The problem persist after stock reset and resetting your home network.
Before seeing your history, I was going to suggest that you attempt to return to stock. But, it seems that you have already tried that as well as attempted using Qfil.
The only other thing that I see from your logs that shows that the SELinux protection turned off, and that you are getting few kernel errors.
The answer is simple return the phone to Bangood for a replacement under warranty the phone has a hardware that it was likely caused by a faulty charger or usb cable.

Other than what we have discussed. It seems to me that you have a hardware issue which if is the case you need to return it under warranty. Perhaps a component was not soldered well and it needs repair.
If you have owned the device for less than a year you should still be under warranty. If not maybe find a shop in your local area.
Worst case, the people at this link had some crazy ideas to resolve the same issue on another phone. If you are bold and desperate go take a look : https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/qa-wifi-stuck-mac-020000000000-g2-g3-g4-t3452133
If I had better advice I would certainly give it to you.

The last time that I answered a question on this thread was over a year ago, and I rarely use a Le Pro 3, since buying another phone. So first you may want to describe your issue so I don't have to guess.
Since you are on this thread I assume that you have a baseband issue and likely have a corrupted EFS partition.
There are ways to delete and reload your modems.
However I don't recommend it and I will not describe it, the partition is encrypted and it should only be repaired from fastboot, recovery or EDL. Otherwise you risk unrecoverable damage.
The best thing to do, is to restore your full Nandroid backup
Hopefully made before you began flashing roms on this phone. So if you have one , do that.
The next options
Restoring the phone to factory stock with a fastboot rom. NOT A MODDED EUI, STOCK ONLY
Keep in mind that this may relock your bootloader.
Depending on which rom you use and this step is a little more dangerous if you have an X722.
If you have a X720 or X727
Try using my posted recovery, its includes the full efs.
If that doesn't work, you should find and download EUI 26s fastboot rom
If you have a X720 then unpack the 26S rom on your desktop, the 2GB file will unpack a 4GB version of the file, unpack it as well and you will now see a folder with all disk images. Look for the flashall.bat file and double click it. The flashboot.bat is a batch file that restores every partition one at a time, when the process is finished stock will be restore and the phone will automatically boot. Set the phone up, go to developer options and prepare the phone for a custom rom all over again.
If you have a X727, same steps but use EUI 21s fastboot instead of 26S
At this point the issue should be resolved, there is one other option of using QPST, with the stock QFil, but you will need to find a QCN file specifc to whichever device you own, it would be much easier to use flashall.bat or a Full Recovery.
Good Luck,
Also, I don't get paid to spend 20 minutes typing instructions, so click thanks or donate a beer. Cheers.
