Is it possible to flash US996 or H918 modem and/or cust to H990DS? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I have an H990DS and I love the phone, but the modem firmware is sub-par. One problem is that the CA settings are not set correctly to T-Mobile US's (which I use) LTE band 2 and 4 CA setting. Another problem us that the phone shows 4G in the status bar, which, correct me if I'm wrong, is not true LTE, but another 4G network (the app Network Cell Info Lite shows LTE, however. Another problem is that the phone doesn't have good signal strength. I live in a deadzone and usually get below -100 dBm average on 4G, and this means that texts take forever to send. VoLTE would also br nice if I could flash one of those modems. Thanks in advance!

Signal problem theory/research

Hello, i live in a relatively small town where my service provider has very poor 4G signal. but pretty good 3G signal. With the Axon 7 i have a lot of signal problems that i didnt have with any of my previous phones, where outdoor signal is pretty bad and indoor signal is almost unusable. It also connects almost exclusively to 4G, and in contrast all of my previous phones connected almost exclusively to 3G. Over the last weekend i traveled to a major city where my service provider has very strong 4G signal, and the signal problem was almost non existant. I even had signal in places where other people with the same service provider did not. So my theory is the following, assuming that the hardware (antenna) used for 4G and 3G is the same, it may not be a hardware problem, but a problem with the software having a hard time knowing which band/signal it should connect to. It seems that in my case it prioritizes 4G signal and the cost of a VERY unstable cellphone service. This is also assosiated with the fact that when it connects to 3G (incredibly rare), the phone goes inmediately from 1/2 bars to 4/5 bars. I also changed the SIM configuration to leave LTE out, but either for a visual bug or a software bug, it keeps connecting only to 4G. So could this be the problem that me and a lot of people in low 4G signal zones are having? Is there anyway i can force the phone to connect exclusivly to the 3G signal to test if that is indeed the problem?
Regards!

Without knowing which model Axon 7 you are using, where you are using it, and who your provider is, there is little anyone can do to help you. All I can say is that it helped me A LOT to go into settings and turn off
VoLTE.

U model last update, using it from Argentina, and the provider is Claro. I have LTE disabled in SIM confg as i already said and VoLTE turn of as well but the phone keeps connecting to 4G no matter what i do, even if i configure it to only GSM
I don't think its a matter of position or provider (version could be if different software is provided), but a general issue with the phone and band/signal interpretation coupled with the apparent innability to go off 4G
Refards!

ok when it connects to LTE it says "4G LTE". The 4G that you are getting is probably HSPA or something. And we had someone on here a few months back using Claro in Argentina and they had to seek answers from their Claro

If "4G LTE" is 4G and "4G" is HSPA, when only a "G" appears, what band am i connecting too? Its still pretty weird that im having major signal issues in my town, but when i go to a big city my signal is even better than other phones, it seems inconsistent with the whole "bad hardware" theory. I talked to Claro and it seemed like from their end it was a non issue, can you point me to the thread to see if he got it fixed somehow?

/Trolling a bit/
I'm always LMAO when I hear US people talking about that 4G scam (which is H+ for real btw)
G is for 2G
E is for 2G+
3G is 3G
H is 3G+
H+ is 3G++ (an intermediary protocol up to 42MBps)
4G is LTE (up to 150Mbps in the EU most of the time)
4G+ is LTE-A (which is available in most of the EU, SK & JP) - up to 600Mbps, 200MBps in most tests
I've not heard of an app that could modify the way the phone "clings" to 4G LTE, since that might likely be the modem firmware doing it on its own.

Then this is even weirder, because is G is not 3G, but 2G it means that the phone NEVER connects to the major band that all of my previous phones and Claro users connect to. Is there anyway to force to only connect to 3G?
Regards!
i have the G european model, in my town i have bad lte signal 1/2bar, when with my previously xiaomi mi4c was got 4/5 bars (maximum). In the big town i have got in the most of cases 4/5 bars. I think the "signal problems" are relatives of a lack of somehow software. i told this because i've read with the china model with the last updates an improvement of the signal reception of the phone.

You can however force a specific protocol indeed, but you will lack the ability to autoswitch networks. Just download 4G LTE Switch (here) which is a glorified secret code dialer. Just click on prefered network and change at your convenience (4G LTE only, WCDMA only - H+ - and so on). Remember that if you force 4G LTE in an area in which you have no coverage, you won't have internet, and no 2G/3G fallback (so no texts, no calls)
I don't know if this is the same problem, but my wife has an iPhone 6+ and I have an A2017U on B29 stock root. We both use the same network (Movistar Mexico) and while her iPhone often registers LTE, my A7 often registers 4G or even E in the same place. The A7 is receiving the same bands but appears to be "choosing" or locking into the slower protocols more often.
EDIT: NEVER MIND… an xposed module was messing with my network settings. Fixed it. Now I get LTE right away.

Can't get 2G Signal, while I can receive 3G or LTE

Hello guys,
I have an Axon 7 A2017, the Chinese one, I unlocked the bl, rooted and flashed B29 rom with the a2017 bootstack, so everything is working. BUT... I can't seem to get GSM reception, I can call and receive calls if I have good 3G reception, but once I step out of the city, my phone become an iPod touch... I'll link photos of my phone on Network guru I you guys can be of any help. I forced the phone into specific bands in order to test LTE, HPSA UMTS and GSM separately, you can see that the phone gets the signal of the GSM tower on both 900 and 1800 bands, but doesn't " translate " it into an actual GSM working signal, that is just my supposition I don't know what's really going in there. Hope you guys can find out what the problem is. @DrakenFX @tenfar
P.S : When I first bought the phone it had the Chinese B10 version, and the 2g was working, weak signal due to prior updates but I could read it. The main purpose of me flashing into US rom was because of an update which enhanced the signal on A2017U.

Galaxy S8 unlocked (SM-G950U) not maintaining T-Mo signal in specific large buildings

I have a problem with the Samsung Galaxy S8 unlocked, carrier-free USA version (SM-G950U1) and the way it interacts (or fails to interact) with certain cell towers/bands/frequencies while trying to connect with T-Mobile.
Inside some large buildings, it doesn't get a signal. What *appears* to be happening, based on my limited knowledge of these things, is that the phone can't see/maintain a connection to any LTE or GSM signals, and keeps defaulting to CDMA.
Other phones DO have service at the same time and place, *including* my Galaxy S5 with the same T-Mobile sim card that I'm trying to use in my S8. I can take my S8 outside (or into many other buildings) and it maintains an LTE/GSM signal without problems. The trouble spots are consistent, so this is annoying to debug because I have to go to certain places, but once I'm there, the problem reliably happens.
Since my old phone with my current sim card still works in these same locations, I don't think it's exclusively a carrier problem, and is either a) something wrong with the phone, or b) something wrong with the interaction between T-Mobile and the unlocked Galaxy S8. Because I can't find discussion anywhere online about option B, I've been assuming it was option A. However, I've tested 2 S8's so far and both had the same problem, so now I'm not sure what to think. I've just picked up a third S8 that I'll test in the next few days.
All the S8's are running the latest stock Touchwiz software and are not rooted.
Does anyone know enough about these things to help? I'm attaching screenshots of info from the app LTE Discovery - all tests are using the same T-Mobile sim card except in one case, as noted:
** (QA) S8 at location "V", with no LTE and a HSPA+ signal -103 dBm. It appears to be connecting to/only see CDMA towers.
** (QB) S8 at "V", with no LTE and a GSM (?) signal -97 dBm.
** (QC) S8 at "V", with a VERIZON sim card that I briefly borrowed to test with, with LTE on band 13 with -108 dBm and a CDMA 1xRTT signal at -96 dBm.
** (QD) S5 at "V", an LTE signal on band 4 with -113 dBm and GSM -69 dBm.
** (QE) S8 at location "P", with no LTE and a HSPA+ signal -99 dBm. It appears to be connecting to/only see CDMA towers.
** (QF) S8 at "P", with no LTE and a CDMA (?) signal -89 dBm.
** (QG) S8 at "P", with an LTE signal on band 2 (through a CDMA tower?) at -130 dBm. The cell radio is "connecting" and it sees a bunch of LTE and GSM towers that it apparently decides not to use...
** (QH) S5 at "P", an LTE signal on band 4 with -113 dBm and GSM -75 dBm.
What on earth is going on? Anyone else experiencing this? Your insights are appreciated!

US Unlocked S8's model # is: G950U1. I have the same model and used it on T-Mobile for about 2 months before flashing firmware on it. My work building has Band 4 and Band 12. There are spots in the building where phone would have low Band 4 signal, then would connect to Band 12. I haven't seen any weird behavior of the signal in my building. The reason I keep bringing my building as an example is because it is very tricking for phones without band 12 to properly have signal there, at least on T-Mobile.(haven't checked other carriers)
Then I flashed my phone with T-Mobile firmware and continue to have coverage as I did when my phone was running an unlocked firmware. You could flash your phone with T-Mobile's firmware which will give you all T-Mobile features, but will also give you few of their apps, but they can be disabled.
If you decide to flash the phone, use "flashing standard firmware" option - https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/snap-guide-flashing-standard-fw-carrier-t3625817

Thank you! So you think the S8 isn't properly connecting to band 4 or 12, and that could be the problem? It does look like it might only ever be connecting to bands 2 and 4, so if it doesn't by default connect to band 12, maybe that is the problem. Although my S5 connects to band 4 in both those spots, but my S8 doesn't, so I don't know if band 12 is really the issue.
I have the unlocked AQH3 firmware and bootloader installed now - I assume this is the "XAA" version? If I try flashing the T-Mobile version of that same firmware release, should I expect that to change something about the network settings/capabilities that I can't otherwise change? And this does not require root, correct?
Thanks again!

Root isn't needed.
I don't really know what changes it will bring as far as networking capabilities, but if it is the T-Mobile firmware, then it most likely be very well suited for its network. Unlocked model still connected to band 12 and I don't know if your city or place has band 12, but you can easily find out by using LTE Discovery app and it will show you. Flashing to T-Mobile firmware gave me the ability to place "video call, have advanced massaging and has DIGITS service build into the phone app" + some people also mention that 4x4 MIMO and 256 QAM are also supported on T-Mobile's firmware + I have read stories that they got better signal as well.
An update, for anyone else having this issue: my best theory has been that the phone was prioritizing non-LTE signals over a weak LTE signal. How I fixed it the first time: enter the BAND service mode via the native dialer by dialing *#2263# (2263 spells BAND). Clear all bands, then select all LTE bands (ONLY LTE) and apply the changes. This forces the phone to use only LTE signals, no matter their strength. It's worth noting that you may need to alter this when traveling through areas without LTE service, by re-entering the menu and selecting all bands and applying the changes.
My phone *just* updated to Oreo, and the problem may be back, although I haven't had a chance to thoroughly test or debug it, yet...

Nokia X6 2018 defaults to H+ connection on Cricket

Hi guys,
I just got a Nokia X6 on Android One shipped from China and for some reason it defaults continuously to H+ instead of LTE on my Cricket network. On my Network Type option in the Setting In only have 3 options 2G, 3G and 4G and I have 4G selected, but still H+ is being used by default even in areas where I used to get full LTE signal.
I have tried however to get into the Android Testing Menu (by dialing *#*#4636#*#*) and change the Preferred Network Type to a few options like LTE/UMTS auto (PRL), but for some reason is the H+ that is picket all the time. even in areas where I know the LTE signal is strong. If I select "LTE only" from that menu, then I'm getting on LTE but as soon as I go into weak signal region, the signal drops completely, while not the same thing I can say about the other option, when the H+ connection is present in the same weak signal area.
Another thing that I see in the Android Testing Menu is that my VoLTE provisioned option is Off and I can turn it on.
Do you guys have any ideas on how can I get this device connected to LTE when the signal is strong?
I have a Nokia X6. I put two SIMs into it, both show 4G.
I have some problem to connect data or mobile internet. Grammen phone provider.
I was ready to purchase one, however, was curious if this would work on t-mobile. If so, would the Wi-Fi calling work?
Did you already checked if your 4g network band compatible with your phone?

So, have you solved your problem?
If the ROM of your phone is "CN" you could try to flash the phone to the global ROM 2_29(WW) or wait for a new update of the firmware. You haven't noticed the firmware's version. Have the phone got any updates?
I just returned the phone and got an LG G7 instead. The X6 that I was using also had a problem with Bluetooth as I was never able to turn it on.
Manually switch the preferred network type.
I am using the latest Stock Android version on Nokia 8 and struggled with this issue too. I tried everything I could possibly do.
The simplest answer is to go into network settings and select 2G, give it a minute to find it. Do it for 3G too. Give it a minute to find it. Then 4G, same thing. Finally select 4G as preferred network type and that should do it.
It looks like the default preferred network type is 3G from the factory.
guys i cant even access my mobile data connection can anyone tell how access it

Any way to get 4G/LTE, Please Help!

Hi everyone. I have a Leeco Pro 3 X727. I am on Firmware 20s I am having issues to get 4G/LTE signal.
First thing, In my City there is 4G signal, even a couple a days ago I went to my carrier and change my Sim for the newset, just in case.
The last Rom where I had LTE signal IICR was AEX5.4 around May's days. After I changed to CDroid, then to DotsOS... Whatever all I can get its H+ signal. Couple a days ago I change to Carbon Rom 6.1 (Oreos) and the first install, in the configuration I get LTE, but after change to Wifi for finish install all apps, I cant get LTE again. I flashed back Dots, Cdroid and I am now and AEX5.7 and I I have the same issue, just 3G/H+, not LTE or 4G. Also, after flashing firmware 20S I get LTE signal for a While so I think that is not the problem...
I tried almost all APN setting and Nothing. Chang Rom, change Recovery, change Kernel... Nothing just 3g/H+.... My friends with same Carrier have LTE signal...
So, is there anything I can do...? Flash any app, setting?
Help please.

Only use the X7272 5.8.20s firmware - Then you should be able to get it with the correct APN and setting
Don't choose Global, you want the LTE/GSM/UMTS/CDMA setting. If you are still having issues, use the program LTE Discovery or Network Guru.
There are Magsisk
What network are you trying to connect to? What country are you in?
Go to Settings -> Backup & reset -> Network settings reset -> RESET SETTINGS

Nothing. Still "Orange 3G" and conexión icon show H+.
Honestly, I'd say something is wrong with your phone or wrong with your cell towers. The only LTE Band that Orange/Altice supports in DR is B3 (sorta strange that there's only one band, but for a relatively small country I suppose it doesn't matter) and the LEX727 and LEX720 both have band 3, as well as the only GSM(3g)/UMTS(4g) bands that Orange/Altice supports (that being GSM:1800/1900 and UMTS B8 (900GSM)) At first my assumption was that Orange/Altice was a CDMA network, but as far as I can see, there are no CDMA networks in DR!
Edit: download the speedtest app, and see if you're getting the same speeds as a phone that shows it's connected to LTE. If you are, there's no issue besides the phone reporting the connection wrong. If you're slower, though...

Oh! I think I know the issue! When I looked at Orange's website (trying to find network specs, which strangely for a network that supports BYOD, they don't have listed, or at least I couldn't find it) I saw that they have subscribers pay for data, as is standard practice in the US (where I live). But the thing that caught my eye is that you also pay for speed.
So... Let me take a guess here. You pay either RD$1499 Or RD$1349 for their 5mbps unlimited plan?
Basically, my assumption is that if you're paying for one of their lower speed tiers, they put you on a 4g or 3g network to save LTE bandwidth for the people who pay more than you.
Tell me if any of this sounds familiar... I feel like I may've found your problem!

Mmmmm suspect ... actually I have an even lower plan, RD $ 580 (USD$12) and I only use the data when I buy additional packages ... Most times I use Wi-Fi and just use Data when I am not at home/job and the 3G its veeeery looooow speed... Thank bro, that could be the problem.
