Yes, there is a simpler way to update without wiping your data. You could flash the ODIN files with the ATT G955USQ2BQK5 update. Just flash the AP, BL, CP, & USERDATA from this link: G955USQ2BQK5
Flash HOME_CSC to keep your data. Download HOME_CSC 2BQK5 file here
Do not flash CSC file, that will wipe your data. Download Odin Here

A and B should work on ANY XT1068 as it's a Retail for ALL Dual sim, (it may or may not have certain languages) but if you can find your original firmware it's a easy job to add the automated script
My fone came with KXB21.85-23 installed. Noticed big battery drain. Should switch to ART instead of Dalvik?

I dont think so as you can still download OTA with modified Roms, but you need Stock recovery to install - but if it worries you edit the .bat script to remove the line with logo2.bin in it near end of script.
if we cant OTA install, but have a OTA zip of Lollipop we can modify it and just flash it via mfastboot method anyway

I don't know, I'm quite new to Motorola phones but I read in this forum more than once that for OTA updates (atleast for the lollipop one) you must have a completely stock rom, even a frozen system app would make the update fail to install.

Well anyway I just saved all of your packages just in case I'll ever need to restore my UK XT1068 back to stock.
I still have bootloader locked and everything as it came out of the box waiting for 5.0 OTA (of course I'll try to get the link and post it on XDA )

just a quickie as still setting up XT1068 Dual sim UK
1)flashed with a full wipe and had to force a reboot as had been stuck in bootloop for 10mins +
2) it then booted with the upgrading android 1 to 50 screen , installed and booted to setup screen
3) 1st check was dialler and it works! (sort of!) you can dial AND you have dual sim selection , no FC's as had before,
but i dialled home phone, it rang and i hung up- great I thought - until i was checking phone settings and my home phone rang again, It was my xt1068 again BUT i wasnt showing any thing on phone to say I was dialling out. WTf?!!!
Maybe It a one off as not able to repeat this - but just a little warning - you could be connected to a number with NO indication.
4) plan to set up , root , remove brazil apps , edit build.prop to xt1068 friendly and make a new TWRP backup
@noemi.abril & @reefuge pls specify which version of TWRP you used to restored?? i.e. 2.8.0.1 or ______??
/sigh
How many times do OTA capturing how-to's have to be posted before people use them?
Installing someone else's installation backup is clearly Not a Clever Thing to Do®.

I used the No install TWRP
its 2.8.3.0. Fixed
Everything is OK
Everything works just fine
But upgrade path has problems with wifi.
Dual sim selector works fine, and data counters work fine.
what surprised me is that the old messages app, still exists and the new one Google Messenger is missing
Again, thanks for uploading
PS. It seems that it is a Brazilian rom. After factory reset, it starts with portuguese language and there is also a preintalled app "BR Apps" that says something for Brasil

Sir I am from India. Here the mega.co.nz website is not opening i tried several different ways but due to large size of the file I was unable to download. Please provide us with googledrive download link.

[links] Capturing OTA updates and DOWNLOADS STAGE FRIGHT

As there are several reports of people getting / not getting update - those that have it CAN help other by doing this BEFORE you install it.
Download the OTA software update BUT DO NOT INSTALL it!! - it self deletes upon install.
With a ROOTED DEVICE, use a root explorer app and go to /cache folder inside the root folder of the phone and copy the downloaded ZIP file to your emulated SD card
then copy it to your PC - do not rename it as it's name shows what version it will upgrade from (yes from -this confuses people)
then upload to server of your choice and post and the link to this thread
The OTA will be named like Blur_Version.xxxx.zip
As I said, you need a ROOTED DEVICE to do this, and then you will need to unroot your device to install update -after you have saved it and linked to this thread

update to LXB22.99-16 via my signature then if OTA comes through, download install it or manually install via stock recovery
Both version of retail ds ds stage fright patch 8mb (LXB22.99-16) and 133mb (LXB22.46-28) update the phone to the SAME final version of LXB22.99-16.3 (note the extra .3 on end)
therefore if you are on LXB22.46-28 and have NOT got OTA update, you can jump the queue by installing my easy installer version of LXB22.99-16 and then manually apply patch blu_versionxxx.zip
Right this is how to install for ANY GLOBAL XT1068 running LXB22.99-16 Retail / Now working with Brazil LXB22.99-16
LXB22.99-16 is build number for the rom with system version 22.41.16 - THEY ARE ONE AND THE SAME.
You need to update to 5.0.2 LXB22.99-16 STOCK ROM to have the correct RECOVERY or this patch will NOT even start to install - it will also check system version when installing
I have been told you must be UNROOTED or phone hangs on boot logo once patch applied.
These 2 things are therefore are a must, STOCK OEM motorola Recovery (LXB22.99-16) and UNROOTED phone.
1) you must be on LXB22.99-16 this was the latest FULL version of 5.0.2 feb 25th - ALL xt1068's can run this - as it has drivers for BOTH types of front cams. ( Brazil has it own version of LXB22.99-16 )
2) copy the blur_version.zip to internal storage on XT1068 - pick correct one from attached files below
3) forget going to settings and checking for software - it wont show
4) reboot into AP fastboot mode then use vol down to select recovery and volume up to select you should see after a small wait with black screen a fallen android with red triangle - then hold power and quickly tap vol up - you should now be in recovery
5) choose apply update from sd card then choose blur_version xxx.zip
6) it will install if you are on correct lXB22.99-16
the new version is LXB22.99-16.3 system version 22.56.3.titan_xxxx released wed august 26th and yes still 5.0.2

Right this is how to install for XT1068 running LXB22.46-28 Retdsds

2) copy the blur_version.zip to internal storage on XT1068 - download from dropbox link
3) forget going to settings and checking for software - it wont show

I'm considering to back from latest aospa-l which is 5.1.1 r8 I believe.

Wjat is meant by recovery? Is it not flashing factory rom?
Now, I don't think I understand TWRP fully, What it does. Is it used to fix root or system problems?
Thanks

Ok this is what worked for me to get Root !
#1 go into stock recovery data factory reset the phone pull battery !
#2 boot download mod using Odin 3.13.1 install latest twrp make shore before flashing twrp to unlock auto reboot in odin options then flash twrp pull battery again !
#3 boot into twrp wipe data in advanced options then mount system an flash magisk 17.1 zip wipe data again an boot phone setup phone an install magisk manager open manager in popup click yes it run threw an go away after that when ever you open magisk manager the popup will there an just click no thanks ! You should have no reason to open again it should just keep granting your root app access ! Hope this works for you all !!
A note about root; Magisk 17.1 will sometimes lose root. If this happens simply reflash magisk and reboot. The devs are working on it. We aren't the only one's with this problem. There is now a magisk 17.2 canary build which is in testing to bring better support for Oreo/Pie. I've tried it and had very good success so far.
Amazing!!

Currently TWRP lacks quota storage support, so it can't read the Oreo /data partition. You can remove quota storage from the fstab by using the patch found here. After flashing it TWRP will be able to mount the data partition. There are some downsides though. Disabling quota storage is slightly slower than having it on. And TWRP still won't be able to make/restore a backup unless the partition is less than 649mb in size. There were changes to the bootloader in Oreo that prevents making a backup. You'll reboot midway. TWRP 3.2.3-1 should fix this when it gets released.

Did this work on the usc variant or....

A51 AOSP vanilla firmware pure android + root. without gapps.

Draw your attention. There is no bootload patch for the May update (A515F...3BTD4). You cannot build from the May update based on these instructions. But you can create a bootload patch for the May update yourself (we will be grateful if you share it here), or use instructions for self-assembly, firmware that was released before May 2020, or use the ready-made version that is proposed in the topic. May update may be lowered. Accordingly, the instructions are correct.

unlock bootloader (step1)
go to settings. about the phone. several times click on the line "build number" - we become a developer.
back to the settings. go to the system item. bottom line is for developers. looking for the line "unlock bootloader" or "factory unlock"
if you suddenly find that there is no “unlock bootloader” item, you need to turn off the Internet, rearrange the date 2 "months ago. Turn on the Internet. Go to the search engine and type something. Then turn off the Internet again, set the correct date and go to the developer's menu.

unlock bootloader (step2)
1. turn off the phone.
2. Hold down the volume keys Vol + and Vol -.
3. connect the computer USB to the phone.
4. the phone as soon as it turns on, release the buttons.
5. and immediately hold down the Vol + key.
6. and once again prompts you to hold down the Vol + key
in the same way and blocked.
!!! All your actions will lead to a reset, I advise you to backup and untie your Google, Samsung account !!!
Do not block the bootloader on custom firmware and custom kernels - different devices behave differently, but there can be serious problems, up to and including the brick of the device
put the phone in download mode
odin itself and files for firmware need to be placed in the root of the disk otherwise different kinds of problems may arise.
flash one by one through odin, inserting into the AP window 1) vanilla.tar 2) boot (NoForcedEnforce) .tar, be sure to turn off auto-reboot (auto-reboot, tab in odin)
in case of any incomprehensible situation, as well as between the firmware of the first and second file (if the kernel does not want to flash), go into the recovery and make wipes, then return to the firmware mode DO NOT FORGET TO REMOVE THE CHECK REBOOT IN ODIN after all the firmware boot into the recovery and do everything wipes and dumps!
also with various kinds of glitches can help restart the computer.
ATTENTION! do not disconnect the wire while ODIN is running - wait until ODIN finishes its work and you can disconnect the wire, reboot, etc. without problems as many times as needed.
after installing AOSP to get root, install the terminal (for example, from f-droid https://f-droid.org/ https://f-droid.org/F-Droid.apk)
dial in terminal

all health! Have a good mood! happiness!
p.s. IMPORTANT NOTE! start flashing the phone from a working state. that is, when the phone was launched at least once, there is a mark on the unlocked bootloader in the developer's menu. if you start the firmware immediately after resetting to the factory state, it is more likely that you will get an error about a locked bootloader, even if it is unlocked.
if you have a problem and a message is displayed on the phone screen: connect your phone to the Samsung Smart Switch program for recovery, you can try to fix it by flashing the phone through odin with official firmware, you just need to remove the check from the first line of BL, flash everything else as usual AP, SP, CSC ..
also remember, your firmware and kernel file may be damaged along the way. just download again.
p.p.s. The firmware contains 139apk including system (14apk user), at your discretion, disconnect / replace. in a 6/128 phone, firmware takes 8% free 117 gigabytes.
in native stock ~ 500apk%)

first link
1) only firmware without zip is just a .tar archive
second link
2) zip archive - A51 AOSP firmware (as in the first link), kernel, original AOSP vanilla, 7z, lz4, otatools, simg2img, odin, all links and descriptions for all these tools. recommendations for battery calibration (forgot to translate - put it in the translator ) links and description to the original Samsung firmware, instructions for unlocking the bootloader (again you need the translator. !corrected! -> posted with the translation in the first post ) in general, everything that was used for creation and result. except for native Samsung firmware since its weight is large
with respect. be happy!
is super.img just renamed from the phhusson AOSP imgs? or is it a modified system image?
Is it possible to install and use samsung pay with this rom?

Is the NoForcedEnforce boot image necessary for GSIs to boot, or does it only make root available?
I'm trying to boot GSIs on A51 5G (different hardware - just using this thread as a reference). Rooting via Magisk is straightforward, but when it comes to GSIs I get stuck in a boot animation loop. Looking around for some tips.
Ignore, booted AOSP just fine.
