Rooting after November Update - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hello!
I have recently installed November Update and now I want to root my phone. Does anybody know a method so I will root my phone after that update (or maybe it isn't necessary)? I need certainty, that it will work.
Cheers!

Root using same method as previous updates https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/tool-xiaomi-mi-a1-aio-tool-t3680211

Heh, I have noticed that. I think I'll just wait for November patch, then use AIO Tool.
A: Yes, you'll recieve official OTAs as long as you have stock recovery installed. But there are chances that after rooting if you install any OTA then it might brick your mobile.

Does it mean, that there is a chance, that after installing OTA update (with root), my phone may got bricked/bootloped/etc.?

Moto G 1st Gen: Actually Got a Security Update

So this morning I received a notification about a new security update for 5.1 with patches up to march 2016.
Pretty impressive that Moto still pushed this out for a phone launched in 2013
so how can I get this on my rooted xt1033??

I think to get OTAs you need unmodified system partition.
My XT1033 is rooted and I still got the update notification, though I haven't updated yet.
Will it remove root access?

If someone could capture and upload the OTA Zip it would be appreciated.

With Root-access file explorer, browse to /cache and the OTA zip should be obvious. Copy / move to /SDCARD. Do this after accepting download but prior to flashing it.

Yes, I'm on brazilian firmware.
I've attached the update file here.

It's only a security update, with the majority of changes being related to files in /system/lib. On the surface, Android will be no different at all.
please post for asia firmware
Here's the US version attached.
My system version is reported as 221.21.58.falcon_umts.AWSRetail.en.US, but when I try to install the Moto update from TeamWin, it tells me that the package expects .../falcon_umts:5.1/LPBS23 etc../release keys and that I have .../falcon_umts:4.4.3/KBX21.14 etc../release keys.
Any idea?
I had a problem installing this security update.
I made a thread about my issue in Q&A here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/stuck-motorola-bootlogo-security-update-t3364145

It's mostly the recent stagefright patches + other security stuff it seems
This update broke my gf's system, she was running the brazilian 5.1, rooted with TWRP recovery installed.
Don't install this unless you flash stock recovery again and unroot, or flash the full firmware again, then apply OTAS, then root and install your custom recovery. (as usual with any OTA on a rooted system).
So good that Motorola had supported our phone for 2 years, could'nt be more satisfied.

You broke your gf system, by updating without firstly restoring everything to stock, next time think before acting
will optimised stock rom's recieve this update?

April Security Update (XT1541)

Did Motorola just remember about our phone's existence or am I the only one that just got this update?
I think you're the only one.. because it is still not available in India..
My device was French, if that helps to know which devices got it.
Got it some days ago, French too.

Looks like only 1 gb XT1541 got update. My 2 gb XT1541 is still on January 2017.

Yeh, forgot to mention I have the 1GB variant.
I'm from Brazil and just got the notification on my XT1556 (Moto G Turbo Edition).
It's surprising to see that moto is still supporting this device with security updates!
Why couldn't they just release a Nougat update. ?
glad to see that lenovo still cares about moto g3 and still pushing updates after 2 years of release. i think security updates are more important than a firmware upgrade cause motorola optimized their stock mm rom greatly!
I've got it this morning on my XT1550, but since my phone is rooted, do i have to unroot before i update?

I have installed stock recovery and unrooted my phone. But what if i had flashed mods like viper4android or had uninstalled system apps before? Will these interfere with the update process?

Stock recovery is responsible to flash update (it will check boot.img, bootloader, radio) with every thing being ok it will flash it, what happens after can't be predicted (my guess it will fine)

Don't know how to unroot now. The unroot option from SuperSu doesn't work.

yes if you are on magisk then you need to uninstall magisk and if you are on supersu then you need a clean install of system and boot partition.

No, you need to return to pure stock... if your system partition has been modified, the update will likely fail.
Either restore your pre-root backup with recovery, or flash the latest stock images with fastboot and take all OTA's, then reroot and apply mods.
Honestly, it is a minor security update.... nothing to get concerned over, just disable the notification and go on with your life.
This morning on my XT1541 (French model) pop up notification.
I'm in Italy.
Now is update to April security patch.

Rooting has no effect on receiving the notification of the update, just applying it.
Hello, after an unsuccessful root attempt I can not update my software anymore. With unlocked bootloader and Android version installed 6.0.1 March 1, 2016. The reason I do not get an update is an unlocked bootloader? I check for a new version of the software but it is up to date ... Please help

US997 Upgrade

Hey all,
My phone has finished downloading the latest update, but I'm holding off on updating until I know that it doesn't close out my option of rooting at a later date. Is that the case? Or should I hold off just in case?
Mine updated to 13a and i have root and twrp
Same here. I updated, then did the bl unlock/twrp/root. Works great!

Can you explain what you did? New to this phone. Havent even connected it to wifi yet. Should I root/twrp first and then update? I was under the impression that updating could remove twrp, and then Id have the possibility of losing root/unlocked bootloader.
What should I do to ensure Ill keep my options open in the future?

So unlock, install twrp, and then do not install the new update right? Would I even be able to install the update if I tried?

Update Zip is online in the romsection.
there is also a step by step.
with the zip you do not lose twrp.
for root flash supersu or magisk directly after installing the rom.
Does the latest update increase battery life

Cannot receive OTA updates...

I currently have the September patch on my Mi A2, but I cannot install the October update. The update downloads but fails to install. I heard that rooting can cause issues but is that really the reason?
hmmmm yes, that's really the reason.

You must flash stock boot and instlal it and again flash patched_boot
If you rooted by magisk, first restore stock images (Uninstall -> RESTORE IMAGES), then you can get OTA !!
The truth, this update so poor, I hope better from here to December, for now zero updates ..

JC

Every week i flash new update throw twrp, works fine
Gregor, which twrp are you using?
I've already asked this, and after some experimentation I can confirm this way works:
