GPS doesn't work on my ZC550KL - Asus Zenfone Max Questions & Answers

I've had this problem for as long as I remember. Sadly my phone is not covered by warranty anymore so I can't go to the retailer.
Recently installed LineageOS 7.x but the GPS still doesn't work.
I honestly have no idea what to post here, so if anyone could tell me what to post I'd love to help.

Hi there, my story was as follows. I had a very good gps and wifi signal, but several days ago I suddenly discovered that gps signal on my Zenfone Max disappeared and wifi has a very weak signal. GPS status shows that there are 21 satellites but there were no signal but none of them is in use. Wifi shows only one status line even when I am close to the router. I started searching how to fix it, I found tons of information concerning wifi and gps issues in Asus Zenfones, in youtube and forums, I also did the same as it posted here, but nothing helped. Finally I decided to buy a new phone, but today I waked up in a good mood and gave my phone a last try. I took off the back cover and tried to find a place for external gps and wifi antenna. And I found it! If I put inside (!) this connector (showed by red arrow) the pin and piece of wire, the wifi signal becomes very strong! Moreover, GPS status showed me signal from satellites and immediately fixed the satellites!
I started discovering where the wire from connector goes and found that it ends by resistor (?) or most probably diode (red circle):
I put the pin into the point 1 and the result was the same as before: strong wifi and gps signal. When I put pin in the point 2, nothing happened, wifi signal was the weak and no gps signal. What happen if I try to bypass the diode (or resistor)? Bingo!!!! When I connect point inside external gps and wifi connector with the point 2 by means of piece if wire, gps and wifi signal becomes stong! So i simply connected point 1 and 2 by a small piece of wire. I was not accurate and damaged diode (or resistor), so I had to remove it, but it has no impact on signal - I have very strong wifi connection even far from the router and I have excellent gps signal which is fixed in a couple of seconds.
Probably this diode (or resistor) is factory defective and after some time of use stops working. I can be wrong, but for me it fixes the gps and wif issue.

8525 - No GSM/GPRS - No Service

Hello-
After dropping my 8525 and cracking the screen, I was able to replace the screen.
I am afraid I also damaged something that may have to do with the internal antenna. After putting the unit back together everything works except that it will not hold a GSM or DATA connection.
It will establish a GSM/DATA connection for a few minutes, drop and then start searching again. Eventually, I get a "No Service" exclamation mark. I have tried setting to GSM only and no 3G, but I get the same issue.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
JP

try changing the radio to 1.40 1.41 or 1.43 and see if that helps.. do u hear anything rattling in the phone? did u do the replacement urself or send it out?
Thanks! I will give that a shot and post the outcome. No unusual rattling.
JP
Well...thanks for the tip...unfortunately...same issue. Changed radio to 1.43. Connects for one second and then starts searching all over again.
When I looked at the internal antenna, it "seemed" to be "all together". Anyone know where to get the hermes service manual?
Thanks again! Still open to additional suggestions...
Cheers,
JP
One other interesting tid-bit. I can see the antenna signal strength go from 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 bars before it drops the connection. Don't know if that is relevant?

A bit of a guess this but. In the following two pictures you see the aerial first connected and then disconnected. Note the short brass rod that locates into a brass clip on the m/board. I am just wondering whether this is not making a good contact. If the aerial circuit adjusts signal strength in relation to the connected aerial it is conceivable that it sends a strong but reducing signal due to the aerial not be attached/good contact at that clip.

Hi Mike,
My antenna looks like the first picture. However, I can dismantle and double check the connection. I have become quite agile at taking this thing apart.
Thanks for the insight!
Best,

Wi-fi suddenly extremely weak / not working

The Wifi of my HD2 is all of the sudden barely working. It only gets a signal if it's about an inch away from a router, so in practice it's not really working.
I tried several roms and radios, run task 29, but nothing has had any effect.
Do you have any ideas what has happened? Do you think it is hardware-related?
Have you checked in the WIFI settings, there is an option for best performance or best battery.
Yeah, it doesn't seem to change anything.
maybe uve bent the phone and the antennas/antennas solder pad disconnected
Interesting.. I have been pushing the sides of the (somewhat recently replaced) digitizer pretty hard in an attempt to make it fit perfectly, because the service-people apparently didn't do so. Could this have loosened or disconnected something?
Another possibility is of course that the service-people did something, but they claim that's not possible.
Anyone?
(yea, this is a bump of sorts)
WiFi signal extremely weak
I have the same problem with my HD2. I tried changing ROM and/or Radio but nothing happens. This is not my first HD2, i buy them and then sell them here in my country so it is probably a hardware issue. However this is the first HD2 i got that is apparently manufactured after June of this year, which I think is a new model.
Here is a comparison between the HD2 and a Pure, side by side in the same room. (The router is about 3 meters from the devices)

Any other one with a problem like this?
yeah, my HD2 has always got weak WiFi signals, while my laptop shows 4 bars, the HD2 only shows 2 bars. But back then, the WiFi is still usable.
but since last week, I kept getting disconnected from the WiFi router when i try to access the internet. No matter how many different ROMs and Radio i try, they are all the same.
I'm starting to wonder if HTC hardware fails after a certain period of usage... hmm...
Phone was prolly damaged during the repair process, take it back and have them replace it

[Q] (Q) - Windows Phone 7 Wi-Fi strength

Hi,
Nobody knows me here but I've been on the HTC TyTN II forums but recently changed to a HD2.
Some dude I know had the HD2 and after some water damage (Water indicator is still white though) the reception stopped working. I started messing around with the phone and accidentally cut the keyboard flex while opening (doesn't matter, ordered a new one) and started flashing a new radio, MagLDR and WP7 builds by opening the phone and touching the flex cable connector with a screwdriver to get the correct key (hard as f*&%). {<<mod edit - ahem}
Now, on Windows Mobile (Original ROM, when I first got it) the reception didn't work. There was no signal and it couldn't detect any networks. But the Wi-Fi worked great. Sitting downstairs while router is 2 floors up with some thick walls worked. It kept connected to the Wi-Fi network.
After flashing the newest radio (2.15... or something) & flashing MagLDR 1.13 & a couple of WP7 ROMs, when I turn on my Wi-Fi, it shows my home network like this picture:

}
but with just 1 "bar/dot" signal strength even though the router is like 1 meter from me.
When connecting to it, it's a bit slow and in my status bar it shows a FULL signal strength sign (the opposite of what it showed in my Wi-Fi list).
I'm not sure how WP7 works when using the signal strength icons which is why I mention it.
I'm using the "I love DFT (7392 ROOTED) [YukiXDA]" ROM.
I'm hoping someone could help me with it.
I think that the radio only affects the reception & not the Wi-Fi?
Thanks!!!

Nobody's got any ideas? Getting a new Kingston 8GB Class 10 MicroSD card soon. I hope it works.
from my point of view, its pretty stop im picking up wifi from a block down.
what do you mean with pretty stop?
Lol, solved. Sorry.
Seemed like I forgot to attach the Wi-Fi antenna onto the board.

Broken gold WiFi tab inside of N7

Ive had the 0% battery issue for the past couple of days, so I started reading multiple threads about the battery not charging issue when I came across @winter128 stating he took the back cover off and noticed the batery cable wasnt even plugged in. I did the same and noticed the exact same thing. Evidently the battery cable does not have any locking mechanism, so it works itself out. While I was pushing the battery cable into the slot, I accidently broke one of the (2) gold tabs that are the WiFi. I put the cover back on, powered up the N7, and now my battery says 100%. WiFi seems to be working just fine also.
Any ideas what this additional tab is for?

arm chairing thus one
if it's for wifi it might be for an external antenna hookup
have you tried to see if nfc is working?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
mine broke too
the only difference I took out the other side of the wifi contact. My N7 (8gb) is having the "I don't wanna charge if i'm at 4% or less" issue so I crack it open and do a 'hard' power cycle the battery. IDK if it will have issues yet, it's still charging. If it does I'll sell it and get the 16 or 32.
umm.. antennas work in loops. the two contacts are probably the loop around the back cover.
update #1
I RMA'ed it back to Asus. Wifi sig dropped. I need it to work 90 ft from AP (no solid walls) for work, it didn't. At home it'd work only in the room the AP was in. I'll post the results from Asus repair if they deem I need to pay and how much. Just so ppl know what to look forward too. I informed them I had a "spongy" screen too. So, IDK if that will effect my repair bill.

I have just opened up my nexus 7, I got one for Christmas but noticed the wifi signal being very weak. Tried everything on my router but no luck, so brought a plastic pry tool and opened it up tonight and I notice where the two wifi antennas should be both are missing. There was a s/n sticker just above the where the antenna should be and stuck to the sticker is what I presume is one of the antennas so will be arranging a warranty repair tomorrow

Strange mobile signal connectivity..glitch?

I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not. I "think" my signal is fine. WiFi always shows
on, even if I'm not home. I always have a wifi turned on though, just don't always have a signal obviously. My mobile network signal has gaps in it where I would assume it always be green or tan or whatever. My phone seems fine, unless of course ppl are calling me and I'm not realizing it. Any ideas. Here is a pic.

Looks like signal drop outs for X periods, or the device is trying to search for it.

Wouldn't those times show up in red? It's almost like airplane mode in and out, without effecting wifi. I'm wondering if it is not a glitch though. Bc time on for cell stand by is the SAME as time on battery. And time without a signal is 0%. Would that not mean that is a glitch then in the green bar. Also, before this started I would get green and yellow/gray bars in the status thing. Now it's green or nothing.
Signal drop out don't show up in red for me, - but it would seem a weird anomaly for sure.
Hmmm...I think it's fair to say this must be a VERY rare issue.
Not exactly the same issue, but similar sort of thing. Shows as no signal in known good areas, or shows as having signal but often won't send or receive txts or calls. Oddly enough, when signal cannot be found the data will often still work.
The phone is branded to my carrier so there should be no provider issues. Sim card has been swapped, factory resets done and even had the handset exchanged for another S5 - still no change. It's pretty frustrating to not know if you can use your phone as a phone.
Is anyone else having this issue or is it time to go back to my N4?
