What's the new update? - Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom Questions & Answers

Just got a notification there's a software update but I'm not installing it until I know it'll be rootable. I don't have root but I want to have the ability to at a moment's notice.

Since this forum is dead: it appears to be identical to the last update. They say improved camera and sound but I can't tell a major difference.

[INFO] Next firmware update 28th April...

According to Asus UK on twitter, the next FOTA update is going to take place this Thursday (28th April). Interested to see what changes this will bring...
2 updates with in 3 weeks of lauch for the uk is very good service at least they are listening to feedback
This is awesome news. It seems that ASUS really wants to make a strong statement with this tablet. I think they will be aggressive in keeping this up to date and making sure it is a great product.
Any idea what features they are improving/fixing with this update?

Nope - we had to figure out the fixes from the last OTA ourselves too. Things which need fixing are:
- Camera taking videos
- Repeated dock/undocking with the keyboard half apparently can mean the transformer doesn't know if it is plugged in or not
There could also be other performance improvements, more pre-installed apps (layar was added last time), fixes for minor bugs with widgets. I'd still like an update to improve the speed of the GPS and the reliability of the compass which sometimes can still go funny.
Heck, it could even include a new honeycomb build from google which could fix various honeycomb performance issues.
Bet you it's the buggy rear camera lag... that was one of the biggest complaints by all reviewers.
Mine has just told me there is an update available right this moment (I already installed the first update when that came out last week so it isn't that), installing it as I type...
I think it will have some or all of these included:
These were all identified by Anandtech as firmware updates coming shortly:
-ASUS tells us we aren't seeing a near doubling of battery life with the dock in use because of inefficiencies in the current firmware—something that could improve with the May firmware update
-fix issues with when tablet forgets it is docked + locks up when docked + restarts when docked
-put the unit into an ultra low power state when docked if the tablet is in standby, and power down completely when not attached to the tablet

I've just got the same message. Not sure whether to install or not.

T-mobile LG G2 January update, should I bite?

New update for T-mobile LG G2. I am leery of a new update though, since you know how these things can go. Brick your phone of screw up the phone royally and I have to factory reset or roll-back somehow. A few peeps at AndroidCentral say it causes battery drain, but the jury is still out sincei ts only a few days old. What has been your experience, and are there any worthwhile improvements? I want them to fix the slow camera performance in low light, as well as the camera screwing up my lockscreen or not loading sometimes when I push the volume down button. Also would want speed improvements in the main UI, as it has never been the speediest. If its minor and no real improvements, I'd rather wait for KitKat and do a fresh factory reset.

Generally i would prob just do it unless you have custom recovery on there or not stock....you should be able to see what the update contains .... For example sprints update was a Google security patch and a radio fix ( call quality)
Say I unlocked the phone and am using it on AT&T. If I update via OTA, will the phone relock itself?

No. Unlocking is a permanent process and has nothing to do with firmware upgrades.

I got a zv9 update this morning.

Update came on my girlfriends boost mobile stylo. Im gonna update and report back.
I did the update. It seems to be a major stability update as well as an update to the security patch level as far as I can tell. Everything seems to run a ton smoother and the default homescreen dpesn't reload as often. When it does reload the home screen, it's a lot faster than it was before. I'm going to take a quick guess that they fixed some possible memory leaks? I'm not sure. My battery also seems to last hella long now. If other users can confirm that I'm not running placebo, that would be nice.

Android 7.0 Nougat Update No Longer available.

The update for the Android 7.0 Nougat, Customized AU 32.3.A.0.372 - has been pulled from the update server and is no longer available.
Would be rather interested in the reason why is has been pulled again...
The rumors say mainly because of the audio bug with low speaker volume
Sony have acknowledged it:
“We were made aware of reports from some users experiencing inconsistencies related to audio playback via third-party apps and SD card encrypted data read performance, after upgrading to Android 7.0, Nougat. We’ve identified the root cause and are aiming to provide corrective firmware and re-commence the rollout as soon as possible.”
This is good news and hopefully we will get stable, much less buggy releases after a while. I am willing to wait even a whole month just to make sure the release is stable and well-tested, that it has resolved issues with heat emissions, general SoT usage and memory load, and battery optimization.
It's better to wait and get something decent rather than to rush and get the buggy builds. I advise against installing the non-approved versions, you will likely get audio issues, maybe even corrupt your SD card contents.

Just played music on Spotify with the loudspeakers and the volume is seriously so low. I don't know if it's just me, but the device seems to be running a little hotter than usual. But anyways, hoping for a better update!

I guess I'm extremely lucky. No problems with the speakers or heat. It just runs smooth as hell! Maybe this update will address other bugs that w e haven't picked up on yet.
I'm using Customized SA. experiencing speakers audio bug. first 5 secs the audio is good . after that volume goes very low. seriously i don't know what developers were doing during audio testing

Yep. It'll still work.
It would be really interesting to get official status information from Sony about the Nougat bugs and the progress of fixing them... More than 3 weeks has passed and still no new update or even proper official word from them.
(I try to keep up with the official Sony channels and 3rd party news sites etc. but I might have missed some information, official or otherwise. Feel free to chime in if you know something.)
Today I got "Android system update is available" notification.
But when I clicked it, it says "System up-do-date", refreshing does not change anything
Even worse - I can't even remove this notification...
I am facing the audio volume bug too. No high temperature or other problems found.
Only the fingerprint scanner is crappy as always. 6/10 tries is a miss...
Also I dislike the new quicksettings tiles... 4 taps instead of 2 in order to enable 4G + mob data.
Also the X over the signal bars when mobile data are disabled is misleading....

last google app update made my n5x fly!

Hey there,
Just to let you know that I updated the "google app" today from Playstore to the last version. I'm on stock factory Oreo Feb. +ElementalX kernel.
I was a bit upset by the overall performances of my phone compared to my beloved n5. There were some ****ty lag between every app I opened and the actual moment when I could use the app (for example, opening WhatsApp, get the green top bar and had to wait 1 to 2s to get the message list)
Since the update, all gone, the phone is literraly flying.
I've noticed that the cores are also switching frequency way faster. I think something wasn't right before and some process were using way too much ressource.
I'm not here to brag (I didn't do **** ^^) but I would like to know if it's the same for other users.
Have nice day! Mine will be awesome
Gruß,
H.
What do you mean you updated the Google app? You mean the early February update? If yes, I actually find that my 5x is performing even more finicky than with the January update. The December update was the best of them all. Hope the March update will rectify the situation.
Hi, nope, I was on the februar update, and got an update from Playstore for the "google" app. This made my n5x really really faster
