seems like this can be ported to stock rom too. i hope the devs look into it

Is this real? ???
I am so happy with my XZP, too bad I had lost the headphones offer.
This will make xzp the phone of the year... 2018 of course ???

A user italian xzp tell next update, he have options

Why would Sony make all these devices support 120hz but not add it in the software? Im so pleased to hear my device actually has a 120hz screen but is there no way to change this using just adb like with 4k? Im not ready to lose drm keys yet. Does anyone think it will be possible without root/kernel flash? Thanks

If you look at the dates you will notice that it was a few months ago that this was done. I wonder why nothing was mentioned about it sooner.

It was used on AOSP project
If you know how to build that kernel, then you're ready to go
Check here for more information
https://developer.sonymobile.com/open-devices/

May be its available in Developer option but i am not sure about that, you can check there
GO to setting / About phone and click 8 times on build number to enable developer option setting in your phone
then go to setting / developer option / from there try to find

It's not available in there on stock oreo. I've checked it yesterday...

It's only available on AOSP builds which are using that kernel. The feature wasn't pushed yet to the stock ROM.

VERY interesting find! This is really cool stuff (and could even put the Razer Phone to shame!) Has anyone actually tested this however? It could be an option but not even work. However, this is really, really cool!

Oh it would be amazing to see more shots of 120hz on the Xperia XZ Premium. I am curious to know how performance is since it was said the razer phone had additions to reach 120 fps on games. Not sure how true that is. Maybe a video of the feature being enabled would be cool just to see.

I tought that for reach the 120hz you need to upgrade the display hardware of the device, am i wrong?

I am super curious why they would use such hardware though when at the time there would be no need. Also if it doesnt get enabled then what would the point be of Sony doing this? Like having a future proof phone is great but most people upgrade after 2 years because the "free" updates cease. Its the reason I upgraded from my Z2. If Sony offically enable 120hz that would be sooo cool. I think im gonna make a tread for it in the XZ section where theres more support to see what rom developers can do there and see if they can get it to work on their custom roms.

Cut the crap guys. If XZ premium has 120Hz display, there is no way sony disabled it. Instead, sony will advertise as world's first 120Hz 4K display. End of story.

The official update on the kernel code contradicts you and your statement. This entire thread wasn't created from some theories, but from a fact, which is the kernel update.

Game lag fixed.
Launcher updated.
Panorama corrector
Depth variation improved for visual effects.

Whats game lag, why is it bravia engine 2 when it was suppose to be an upgrade going to x reality engine. I actually wish they would add a tweakable setting for x reality. Really like the color and contrast calibration but thing become pixelated and too sharp. And what was the battery problem?
I am not sure how relaiable is this but at first it looks like a minor update. There is no camera enhancements???
can you elaborate more on these points
BATTERY SUCK STOPPED. THE BUG WAS SUCKING
Game lag fixed.
do you mean just improved battery life? I am not aware of any of these two bugs
what is bravia engin2? do you mean X-reality?
and what do you mean by
Depth variation improved for visual effects.
is it camera improvements?
Sony spoke we get 4.3 in December

The lag could be a driver optimization, Final fantasy 4 lags a bit, but i could be fault of SE sucky developers for android
I haven't got full info about the update

i think there will be some improvement bcos leaked images taken from z1s with 4.3 jellybean and with the same cam hardware has cam firmware as f400(from exif info) meanwhile we have f310 with the latest .257 firmware................so z1 will also be updated.

Yeah that is an interesting one, I think you will be waiting a while. Yes the CPU is capable but I don't believe that the internal USB interface is fast enough to cope with decent frame rates at 4k, because you will be wanting to save these to SD due to the size, and I don't think 10-12MB/s will cut it. Unless Sony can pull a rabbit out of the hat

It is most likely to be the Linux & Java memory management, and the garbage collection events causing micro pauses. I have one game which is pretty simple which has some lags on the Z1.

Camera that CAN record UP to 4k

Is there Anyone who CAN make a moded camera for p9 lite that CAN record UP to 4k ans thanks!
If the stock camera do not record videos in 4k it's impossible. It is a hardware fact lol.
I don't know, maybe if the camera have the hardware necessary to take video/photo up to 4k ?

I had the G2 as well, and that was a really big software modification for 4k to be enabled. We have no clue that the P9 Lite camera can even record 4k videos, the LG G2 was lucky enough to be equipped with a good camera which was weakened by LG on the software level.
Lg g2
The G2 was an epic phone
The sensor is compatible to 4k, the SoC isnt.
Isn't capable to record 4k even in 30fps and a lower bitrate?

Hi,
That might be possible with a little tweaking of the camerahal. The Honor 8 can do it and it has the same SoC, you might want to look at its camera hardware to check compatibility. It might be possible (if it has the same camera sensor) to take its camerahal to gain 60fps support.
Note: However, modifying the camerahal is not an easy task. It requires alot of effort to get everything working on custom roms. I cant tell you if its ever going to work on the stockrom, since theres obviously no source for that. But still, very unlikely.
Edit: I quickly checked the camerahal, it seems huawei is using a hybrid system between CameraHal1 & 2. This makes everything even more complicated. What throws me off is that devices that ship with marshmallow should be using CameraHal2 in order to match googles requirements for being allowed to ship with the google services.

Galaxy S8 general lacks !!

hi buddies ,
a lot of problems and lacks i've mentioned :
1 - auto focus is quiiiiite slow when recording a 1080 60fps video.
2- when editing an old video and after saving it, the new edited video is placed above all media in Gallery as if it was created originally today , it should be saved near non edited video.
3- in camera, i cannot modify exposure level when it is locked (like on iOS)
4- bad battery performance, heat, laggy animations on the new QG5 update, we have to wait until August update come out ,
that's really baaaad !
The phone is extremely poorly optimized, maaan whyyyyy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crying::crying::crying::crying:
guys tell me if you know any fixes or should me migrate to another flagship
PS : i have an SM-G950FD model with XSG firmware

Try factory reset. If it will not help i recommend you to use your warranty and return your device for another piece. Issues you mentioning are NOT normal.
Dont root your device, dont try to fix it via different ROM or kernel. Because if you have somehow faulty device, and different rom / kernel etc. wont help, you will loose your warranty and then nobody will help you. :good:

You don't deserve S8
would firmwares differ between one CSC and another (in terms of bloatwares , performance .....) ????

No they don't differ.
1. What does slow mean for you? I've had no Problems with Auto-Focus so far.
2. Intended behavior. Gallery sorts by Date created. Editing a Video "creates" a new one with todays date. Nothing wrong with that.
3. What does "when it is locked" mean?
4. I'm on GQ5 without such problems. It sounds like an app is using your cpu constantly. Maybe try to troubleshoot which app is keeping your phone awake. Neither heat nor Battery drains are normal.
And finally, yes, Touchwiz (Samsung Experience...) is on the "heavy" side for a manufacturers skin. But credit where credit is due, this is by far the best optimized Iteration of it i have seen to date. The S8 is not on the same "snappiness" level as my 3T before it, but it's far from bad. I only experience minor hiccups in scrolling now and than, But that's about it. Everything else is perfectly fine.

But i really dont understand your issues. I have not a single problem with my S8+. In terms of bugs or snapiness.

That's exactly why Im asking. Its a shame if you cant tune down the resolution and loose performance. Perhaps a custom rom may steal that function from the v30 now that is released.

I think that only works with 3d applications but not affect daily use in wich the cpu/gpu need to move full screen resolution.

I still dont own the phone so cant test it but see a few videos/reviews about it and it render games at lower resolution. But only that, games, so all other drawing functions from normal aplications are not afected. It works as intended and indeed it help a lot in fast demanding games (like racing, shooters ,etc)
Yes like you said...did today hevay gaming over 1 hour.... No heat like before....warm yes...but no even close to it.... The resolution is noticeably lower..but i went to max fps and min res....
Defo a good feature...better then lower all res....
Cheers
I havent had any heating issues with g6. But resolution change would a thing nice to see with oreo update.

I bet we gonna get this in oreo update
https://goo.gl/UKaif3 This will help for the resolution but you have to be rooted
Oreo should bring resolution change option.
Non-rooted option: search Google for adb shell wm size and adb shell wm density commands. I haven't tried the size command but density gave me little bit nicer look and feel.
Bit of an old thread, but right now I'm running this res for better game performance:
adb shell
wm size 1080x2160
wm density 480
Notice that this causes the viewfinder in the stock camera app to be zoomed in and you won't be able to see the full image being captured. But I use the ported Google Camera which doesn't suffer from the problem.

Some Xperia X series phones come with a 120hz display panel this was first mentioned in the XZ Premium forum. Since theres less support for the XZ Premium forum I was wondering if anyone or any rom developers could look into enabling the feature on the XZ.

I hope it gets looked into. I can't imagine why Sony would disable this feature. I wonder if it works as well as the Razer phone though. I don't own the XZ but I have the XZP but without root.

I feel that the mah of the battery shouldn't matter though. I mean the XZ premium has 3230mah which isn't much less than the Razer phone which has 4000mah also it has a 4k screen like the Z5 premium so surely that uses some battery. If battery is the reason then they could've at least done 90hz option. Also if people find the battery going down with the use of higher refresh rates then they should be allowed to toggle it off. The software always makes up for battery life. I get 6 hours + sot and I'm sure on the XZ it's pretty decent too.
120hz refresh rate is present and working with the latest slimbit aosp and March vendor files, at least on F8331. Just thought I'd let y'all know
Screen on Drain with 120hz, battery holds my work hours 8.30-17.00 without problem, can't really notice extensive change of battery drain, sorry for the doublepost, can't attach while editing on labs app

is this a system wide 120Hz, like the razor phone? If so all I have to do is get slimbit?
