Stuck on B11 - Which Nougat to manually install (A2017G, assume Hong Kong region) - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hi All,
I just got an A2017G from an online retailer based out of China (I am in Canada). The phone is on an old firmware version A2017Gv1.0.0B11. I cannot see any OTA updates but I know that Nougat has been released for this phone. I can see that there are no updates on the ZTE site for the Hong Kong region and it's stock version is B11 so I assume this is from Hong Kong, but I really have no idea on how to check.
I would like to know if I can tell which region this phone is from and which version of Nougat I should be able to download and flash from B11.
I can see a list of them (for example b04 for Australia, B06 for Turkey, B08 for Germany) here

Does it matter which one I choose?

I think the difference is mainly in things like the Wifi frequency, but I could be wrong. I never found a good clarification of this topic either...

B11 is a pretty new MM ROM and also I think a rollback ROM to regress from Nougat. Mine came with older than B10, I flashed B10 MM then B04 N
German B08 is newer and maybe supports VoLTE if that's of use with your carrier.
Pretty sure the main thing is the ROM was for the same model phone. Don't use an A2017U or A2017 ROM on an A2017G. When it's started first time (or reset) you choose language so as long as locale is correct it should work but it needs to have correct telephony bands to access local celular networks. With location set it should run on the correct wifi channels.

B06 did the trick. Just used sd card update method.

Are you sure it is an A2017G? What does it say etched on the back? Do you have signal after updating?
Just some questions worth doing

A2017g etched on back. B11 version said "a2017g" in the full text. I am sure it is the g version.
I have LTE, 3g and Wi-Fi working post update to nougat b06.

Yeah, the point is that Aliexpress vendors buy A2017's, install A2017G software on them with a special process, and add a paper on the box saying that you won't get OTA's and it's actually not a G, but it seems to be in Chinese.
If that was the case, the software would have said A2017G but the phone, A2017. Just wanted to make sure

Yeah I understand. The phone was from Gearbest. I wouldn't get LTE if it were the A2017 so I would have known right away. Not that I trust Gearbest more than Aliexpress (I haven't ever had a problem with either with about 4 or 5 purchases on both), but this one seems legit.

Great to hear that, I'm waiting for mine (gray one) to arrive from gearbest! You probably would get LTE in A2017 , where do you live ? But if G is etched then you can be happy, and me too. Could please tell me if they included case and tempered glass in the box ? Headphones ? Thanks

Case yes, headphones yes, glass no.
Only band 4 towers around me.

And no pre applied screen protector or regular film screen protector in the box ? I thought they had one. Good to hear it is definitely a2017G

actually I think only A2017's come with it, and i think the Aliexpress sellers put it there.

Nothing pre applied. I've double checked the box and no screen protector. I think the gearbest site says it comes with one so just be aware it doesn't. I have never used a screen protector on my phones and have never had an issue. Also mine came with Euro plug by ZTE with a cheap adapter in the mail bag, so another confirmation it is the a2017g. It was a good deal for $300CAD. I am really happy with the phone.

I am waiting to receive one from GearBest. I think it will not come with Portuguese language. Could you please confirm if Portuguese language is supported on the original ROM, or on the B06 upgrade?
Thanks,
Luis

Any disadvantages importing Redmi NOTE 2/Prime from chinese sites like gearbest?

Please help me clarify my below queries..
- Are there any disadvantages like - the OS or something will have chinese language which cannot be changed etc?
- What is the customs tax for importing to India (anyone tried importing to India from gearbest/geekbuying etc)? I dont want the customs tax bloating up the total price of the price of locally available other equivalent models like one plus two/one..
- What things should I adjust to live with if I import from china instead of buying an international phone or my country version
I'm not sure about India specifically, but for me in the UK the only way to get the Note 2 was via a reseller.
The installed ROM was poor and had various bloatware in it that the international official ROM does not. I would recommend getting rid of it right away. You can flash either the stock stable ROM or the developer edition which will also give you root access if you need it. I will be using the fastboot method to flash a ROM as soon as i get within reach of a PC to make sure my phone is malware free.
Sorry, I can't comment on import duties, perhaps someone else will chip in.

Thanks! That was a great info ! So you mean I dont have to worry even if the Redmi Note 2 I get has some other ROM i can flash to better one.
Let me see if anyone else reply with other questions I have. I am also concerned about what i will do if the device is defective whether shops like gearbest give a replacement, etc.
where can I get the international official rom ?
Have a look on http://en.miui.com/ for info on downloading the MIUI ROMs as well as how to flash, either from the updater software on the phone, recovery, or from a PC (such as in fastboot mode).
Any more replies ?

I think you are right. I downloaded the official 'global' ROM from MIUI but it only has English and Chinese languages. Normally their international ROMs are multi language.
For international rom:http://en.miui.com/thread-157254-1-1.html
Donwload:https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347808405
The biggest problem is the time it takes for shipping. I bought mine from a HK shop on eBay because I dropped my LG G2 and needed it fast, so I paid a little more.
Even the China ROM comes with English, so don't worry.
You just have to read up on my previous posts or look at the MIUI forum to figure out how to install GAPPS, TWRP recovery + SuperSU.
Once you delete the chinese bloatware it is just like any other english android device. Except for the MIUI theme store which is still in Chinese.

Yes.....
Yea, not new, but glad to see this came back after the ban.
Pre ban they had links up where you could buy replacement ZTE hardware like the earphones, charger, tpu case and screen protectors. can seem to find it at the moment tho
Yeah ZTE support is... lackluster.
The last update for the Axon 7 i can find is Nougat B04 (under Australia) There are later updates. I have v1.20B09
I dont even think that is the latest update.
There is a thread on XDA with all the updates. But there is no easy route on ZTE websites (nor with updates on the phone itself).
?? Why not just use the Australian site, rather than (barely) localised pages on the international site? The AU site looks to be as complete as it ever was.
Because it only has Nougat B04.....
I updated mine to Nougat B10 by downloading from the German site well before the whole ban kerfuffle happened. I'd still be out of date if I kept to our Aus site.

I'm not talking about that "localised" *page* on the international site, I'm talking about the Australian *site*. You'd be out of date by having b09 instead of b10. (I downloaded b09 from there in early March, but before they adjusted their recommendations to do b06 first. (The people in that Melbourne office are *incredibly* cautious.))

Global version is out already ??

In case some if you already saw this video
https://youtu.be/0-b-gmuKOIM
Honorbuy mobile shop is already offering the global version. Unfortunately just in black and just the 4 GB option.
The question is, if this website got the global version already, why aren't we seeing it on bigger and more known ones (like aliexpress, cect shop, tradingshenzhen, etc..)
What do you guys think?
The phone is released in HK & Singapore if I am not wrong (or about to get released in SP). So there is a global version floating around the markets.
HB was also the first EU dealer to have the CN version in their EU Warehouse. Those guys are fast.

The key word here is RUMORS coming from MIUI forums... Since when official MIUI forum had any credibility!? It's like middle east market over there - everybody tallks, nobody listens... Not to mention thair moderators which have no idea what is going on behind the Xiaomi's doors but act like insiders...
Fake? Maybe... You could say the same for the 9.6.6 one as well which is straight from Xiaomi's servers and has the same mobile data issues like the "fake" 9.6.4 one.
Damaging phone? Comm on...!? Problems flashing roms is mainly(if not all) user's errors.
Anyway... I get what you are saying and respect that...

I have bought foreign phones before and have always found ways to enable/disable bands as needed.. The Snapdragon is very versatile. I'm hoping that installing the international oxygen OS rom will configure the bands. When I get the device I will thoroughly test every band and let you know how I get on.

Haha your post cracks me up, mate. Did you ever get the band unlocked? I'm torn between waiting four more days until it's available in the US, or getting it off of Wonda.
Perhaps you can help me decide. When the phone arrived, did it look brand-spanking-new? Or were there fingerprints all over it? After all, they had to manually flash the international version of OOS I'm assuming? and did it come in original packaging? Or do they just take the components out and just stick it in a random box?

Haha your post cracks me up, mate. Did you ever get the band unlocked? I'm torn between waiting four more days until it's available in the US, or getting it off of Wonda.
Perhaps you can help me decide. When the phone arrived, did it look brand-spanking-new? Or were there fingerprints all over it? After all, they had to manually flash the international version of OOS I'm assuming? and did it come in original packaging? Or do they just take the components out and just stick it in a random box?

The seal on the box was broken to upgrade the firmware but the device was still wrapped in its protective film. I'm currently on band 20 VoLTE and the device is identifying itself as the international version. I suspect the relevant bands were enabled/disabled with the ROM change.

Wonda mobile.
Question for those using chinese version in USA.
How is it working?
I want the green 256GB version and dual Sim. So going down this route might be my best option.
Only problem I see is if I have a screen issue, will be harder to return.
What do you guys think? Thanks for the replies.
I have used Wonda Mobile and returned a mobile with no issues, you pay for shipping if you change your mind with a fee but if it's faulty they will reimburse you.
I have ordered many times from Wonda Mobile, can't rate them high enough. My 8 Pro was shipped on Monday and I had it by Saturday, 12/256gb £100 cheaper......:good:

Ordering a Oneplus 8 Pro from abroad? Need some info!

So, i notice sites like Giztop and Aliexpress sell the Chinese variant of OnePlus 8 Pro for very cheap. Around 800-900 bucks. and they advertise with "global rom" What does this mean? Can they actually flash on a real Global ROM, entirely supported by OnePlus already on the CN versions? What do i lose by getting a CN version over a global version that i can buy in a store in my country for 1100bucks?
I am torn on buying a OnePlus 8 Pro CN version for 850bucks or the Sony Xperia 1 Pro for 1200dollars global from my country. But that is quite the price difference. On the other hand, i'm scared of the supposed massive OP 8 Pro screen issues? are those more prevalent on the CN versions? i see people reporting major loss in max screen brightness, calibration being way off, green tints etc etc? Hoping someone here can give some reassurance. I feel like the safe option is the Sony, but yeah dunno.
If you're buying the device from "abroad" recommend you send flowers first.

So it doesn't matter if i get the Chinese version or not? It's still the same rom as the 2025 global? There is no difference at all?
Ok let's get this straight..
First and foremost.
No one, in any situation unless you want to our feel like losing all your money, should order anything from the likes of Ali Express.
The clue is in the name.
if you want a Oneplus phone, then order it from the correct channels.
Or get it on contract, or be ready to sit through a total turd storm when you need to return to sender.
The likes of Ali Express shouldn't even be mentioned in XDA im amazed that you've been allowed to name this thread.
Ali Express is one toe dipped into the dark web, recognizable by the amount of bad deals you think you're going to get but don't.
Short answer??
Avoid Ali, period.
Pay for the phone you want and stop spreading misinformation, unless you're in China and in a OnePlus sellers shop..
Modem is probably the key factor. The band support is what you'll need.
I, too, have wondered also. iN2020 supports n41 5g but not sure if that's the same 41 that Tmo uses. If so, that would be great

Mate, what are you talking about. Nothing about this post was even remotely true. AliExpress is pretty reputable. It's basically the Chinese Amazon. This isn't the wild west days of 2010 with Chinese e-commerce.
I order stuff off AliExpress all the time. 99% of time something arrives as advertised. When it doesn't - I just open a claim and I get my money back. Items take longer these days to arrive due to ePacket and covid-19 - but I always get what I ordered.
I think you might be thinking of Alibaba, which also in turn has dramatically improved in the last few years.

Its the Chinese model (IN2020) with global ROM (IN11AA)
The same ROM as the IN2025 model
I will also order one next month..
You could also try Wonda Mobile, they are based in Hong Kong. They have a complete section of faq on the actual device, the only main difference would be the bands like 5g. They also have a section which lists them so have a look at that to make sure your network supports it.
I bought a OnePlus 8 Pro from Giztop and it's the Chinese version with Oxygen OS on it. I immediately regret it and now I can't return it. If you're in the US, don't do it.

No option to return if you change your mind even paying a restocking fee?

I was looking at it when you couldn't get one in the US. The bands (n71 and n41) were the issue.
So far, have not seen any post from anyone in US TMO that has one that works on LTE and 5G over here.

Yeah - that's an issue, but 6000 mhz n71 is also big , as it both supports LTE and 5G. I didn't see that at all.

I can't afford to be without a phone for a month maybe more. My job requires me to have a cell phone and my note 5 backup finally died on me. So I'm stuck with this phone unfortunately

Well, for one I'm missing a few bands compared to the IN2023 version. That's the most important thing to me. Two, I honestly feel like the 5g is not as strong due to me missing those bands.
Hey, just to give my 2 cents about ordering this phone from China....
Just did it and went for the 12/256 Ultramarine Oneplus 8 Pro at the end of April for about $930 USD, shipping included, on AliExpress.
Took a LONG time to arrive to me (6 weeks!) BUT... Phone is perfect, no defect, screen is gorgeous and nothing wrong with it, even though it is probably a "first batch" unit. Got a Chinese IN2020 unit flashed by seller with Global ROM (came with 10.5.3 or 10.5.4 ROM out of the box), had a pre-applied (plastic) screen protector that will allow me to wait a few more days/weeks to get my UV 3D glass screen protectors for a better protection and better light transmittance. Unit looked new, with all the packaging (even though it was flashed to Global ROM by seller, but still, they managed to make it look like it has never even been turned on, as the phone box itself was still fully wrapped/sealed with plastic).
Once turned on, immediately updated to 10.5.8 Global without any problem, unlocked bootloader, booted to latest TWRP, Rooted of course and applied my usual Magisk modules, as well as flashed a custom kernel (Omega, to be precise). Tweaked my unit to my desire, installed a Gcam to have more options regarding photography, and... well ,that's all, mate!
Nothing much to say, except I'm delighted by my purchase and by this phone for now! Coming from a Oneplus 5T with custom Android Q ROM, it is a BIG step ahead and definitely impressive piece of hardware. However, in terms of speed, can't say the difference is huge (sure, OP8 Pro is faster, but not by a 100X, not even a 2X factor when you use it normally).
If you have an opportunity to buy the Chinese version at a good price from AE or any other reseller, offering some warranty in case something goes wrong during transportation or with the unit itself of course, and if you are not able to get it from your local store (it was and still is not easily available in my country at a decent price right now), then go on and do it! Just remember, unless you go for DHL or other fast shipping carrier, you'll have to be patient.
Cheers!
