[MiPad2][GUIDE][PIE] Get Android 9.0 on Your tablet! - Xiaomi Mi Pad Guides, News, & Discussion

Android 9.0 on Your MiPad2!
We all hate that Xiaomi didn't update their MiPad 2 to latest Android. Or at least Marshmallow.. but! Today I found a way to get Android 9.0 to boot on our devices . As You know MiPad 2 uses x86_64 CPU which gives us HUGE possibilities. But it's not perfect. It's pretty buggy and booting most OS's is simply impossible. But today, I found a way to boot most likely any OS, INCLUDING ANDROID X86!
Guide:
1. Prepare: At least 8GB USB drive, USB Hub, Keyboard & Mouse, OTG Type C adapter. And make sure that You have at least 50% battery.
2. Download Rufus 2.18 or latest version.
3. Download Android x86_64 7.1 rc2.iso from android-x86.org UPDATE: Use this link for Pie! BlissOS 11.x Pie
4. Open Rufus and plug in Your USB drive.
5. Inside Rufus choose: Partition type GPT for UEFI.
Make sure that Quick Format is selected.
6. Change FreeDOS to ISO Image and choose Your ISO file.
7. Tap start.
8. Plug Your USB drive and keyboard & mouse into Your USB hub and then plug it into Your MiPad 2 through OTG adapter.
9. Turn off Your MiPad 2.
10. Quickly tap F2 button on Your keyboard multiple times and turn on Your MiPad 2.
11. Tap the F2 until You see bios.
12. Inside bios go to Device Management> Security/boot > Change GMIN to Windows and disable secure boot.
13. Tap F10 to save and then go to main BIOS menu and choose boot device.
14. Choose EFI USB drive.
15. When You see Android x86 GRUB menu tap "e" on Your keyboard and find androidboot.hardware=androidx86_64 edit it to make sure it looks like this androidboot.hardware=androidx86_64 nomodeset and then tap F10 to boot.
16. Wait for Android to boot. It will take around 5-15 minutes depending on Your USB drive speed.
17. Enjoy Your MiPad 2 running Latest Android!
Touch works. Yes! WiFi too.
Bugs:
Sound doesn't work in live mode(maybe after installing the Android it would fix the sound.)
Video playback is broken.
Brightness control is broken.
Probably other stuff too. But maybe installing it or trying Bliss OS or Remix OS would help .

Can confirm that Bliss OS with 4.9 kernel boots and works fine too.
Also tried Remix OS 3.0 and it works fine, as well as Ubuntu 17.10. Touch works in all OS's.

@ProtoDeVNan0 Sounds very interesting but I have a few questions:
- what I understand is the MI PAD2 boots from USB and runs in Live mode. So does the USB need to be connected al the time?
- does it affect your current MI PAD2 ROM?
- same procedure every time you need to reboot?
- Can from live mode do an install on your tablet (confirmed to work)?
- how is the performance?
But thanks for sharing, sound prommissing

It runs from live mode but can be installed as main OS. But then You will lose Android/MIUI.
If You run any of these OS's in Live mode then Your current rom won't be affected.
Depends on what You have installed. Android x86 aftet reboot will boot back to Android x86. And If You reboot from Live mode, it will boot back into GRUB or if You remove Your USB drive it will boot back to MIUI.
Yes. It can be installed. Haven't tried that yet because I was testing all Linux Distros and Android x86 versions but it should work just fine. Just make sure to edit grub to boot every time with nomodeset.
Performance.. it's a bit slower than MIUI. But then again. I used Live mode + extremely slow usb hub which is really bad and installing anything with it takes hours. Even on a high end desktop. But since the general stuff works quite decently. I'd say that if You installed it on Your tablet, then it would run pretty smoothly. And You would get similar Antutu score to MIUI(+/- 5-7k).
Also I tried a lot of linux distros and all of them had touch working. Native resolution worked too.
I might later try different kernels and install Android x86 on my MiPad 2 as default OS to see how it runs.

Do you try to install bliss os or remix os ?

Sounds Sweeeeet!
I am going to try it.
So I wondering now...
- If I try this with INSTALLING, not LIVE MODE, what happens to Recovery Mode and Fastboot Mode? Will they still exist? So that I can backup and restore with TWRP?
-Did you have any bugs with Remix OS 3.0? It would be cool if I can fully use it.

I have tried installing Android x86 but messed up recovery and fastboot partitions really badly. But! Thanks to DNX Fastboot Mode I was able to
fastboot boot loader.efi
fastboot flash gpt gpt.bin
(And then flash all files inside images folder, including oemvars battery disabled or else Your battery will get stuck at 42%)
And my tablet was good again .
Bugs on all OS's are pretty much identical. Like a week ago Bliss OS released Oreo update but it's alpha and it didn't boot on my MP2. And there are bugs like: no sound, rotation not working, brightness doesn't work, etc.
I think some of these could be fixed but these x86 Android OS's are stuck inside .sfs files and repacking them usually makes the rom not boot anymore.
And if You want to try to install Android x86 then I'd recommend to first install Win10 on Your tablet(so that partitions will be changed from Android ones to Windows ones) and then format "C partition/windows partition" and try to install Ax86 into that partition.
Not sure how installation looks like on RemixOS though. It might be easier or the same.
And if You won't remove/format Fastboot or TWRP partition then it should stay there. But installing Win10 will remove them. So You can try manually installing Ax86 and see how it works. Just don't delete partitions that are called: ANDROID_BOOTLOADER or ANDROID_RECOVERY. These most likely contain Fastboot and TWRP.
And if You delete any of these and Your tablet will be dead, then just remove USB cable from Your tablet, hold vol up, vol down, power until You see DNX Fastboot and follow my guide above. And don't worry. MiPad 2 seems to be unbrickable.

Hey guys!
Maybe I'm the noob but anywhere I tried to find bliss rom or remix os 3.0 for mi pad 2 I had no luck with it. Can anyone help me with a link for these roms and a proper gude how to install them? I'm really interested in remix os 3.0 but curious about bliss os as well, cause I've not heard of it yet.
Thanks in advance.
Have a nice day you all

Hi all, I tried almost all recent distros and it works fine to boot in Live mode. All flavours of Mint, ubuntu. I booted up with "nomodeset" option. I did install and now, when I call grub with "Shift" and edit the installed system with nomodeset option, all I got is black screen. If someone installed any distro on MiPad 2, can someone tell me what should be done to boot into installed system? Thanks so much

is this work on Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 16gb variant?

Can I do this for Mi Pad 2 16 GB variant?

Are there any news? With Bliss Rom you can make daily use?

It should .

After several week research, my current Mi Pad 2 can install Windows 10 (woah!!).
But for this time I need several tools (like USB C OTG Y cable, also USB Hub) to help me installing another OS like Remix or Ubuntu.
By the way anyone succeed install Remix OS 3.0 in mi pad 2 tablet?
there is any bug?

I tried to install in my Mi Pad 2 16gb Phoenix Os, Android x86 and Bliss Os but none boot in live mode. I wait almost 30 minutes for each.

Anyone success installing Another OS to our Mi Pad 2?
I tried to install Ubuntu, it's installed, but I can't boot into it.
Need Help.....

How about remix os?

You can boot to installed system by going to Advanced Option in Grub -> Recovery-> Resume boot

Good News! Today I found out that BlissOS 10.0 Oreo 8.1 works on Mi Pad 2!
Bugs are identical to earlier Android versions. But as You can see, Mi Pad 2 HW is capable of running Oreo

Acer Switch 10 - How to boot Android?

I've wanted to boot and (later) install Android on my Acer Switch.
At first I thought that I can use Images from Android On Intel but it doesn't boot, because the Switch 10 has an 32 bit efi (Intel only supports 64 bit).
Then I've found this thread on xda-developers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46929905&postcount=16
So I prepared an Ubuntu Stick, but before I've copied the Androidx86 image to it, I wanted to test whether it boots Ubuntu.
And of course, I can boot Ubuntu so it's clear, that the Stick is 32bit efi compatible prepared.
Now I've copied all files from the "android-x86-4.4-r1.iso" to the new created "android"-folder and edited the grub as given.
Then I boot up the Acer Switch, selected the Android and it seems working. But it crashes to the command line as it was expected.
Now I have to type in "exit", but there is the issue. The Acer Keyboard Dock is not recognized by the command line.
After that I've rebooted and retry the same way but with an connected USB Keyboard. Same too. It''s still not recognized.
So, Is anyone there, who got it, to boot Androidx86 on the Acer Switch 10?
In addition. I've also changed the grub setting by deleting the command "DEBUG=1". Then Android boots up to "Detecting Android ...", some other logs and to the blinking curser, but nothing more. It freezes before the Android Boot logo would appear.

Yo did you make any progression though? im stuck too i want to install android on it, on my pc its working flawlessly...
Any luck?
Anyone have any luck yet? best I could do was boot in to KitKat but touch screen did not work.

cm 12.1 rom is fine but "System UI has crashed" ;-;

My issue is a little strange but please bare with me.
I have CM 12.1 installed and after the boot up animation and arriving at the home screen I am hit with a "Unfortunately System UI has crashed." This is because I was trying out different CM Themes I was downloading from the play store. Most of them worked fine but one of them just messed everything up and this happened ::crying:
Complications
1. According to my research this issue could be easily resolved with on other android devices that actually have Power and Volume Buttons to enter the Recovery mode upon boot up but as you guys know the MOJO does not.
2. i cannot use my windows 10 pc to force the MOJO to recovery mode because my PC actually has an issue of its own right now where everytime I restart it, it wont boot back up until like the next day after all the power has drained out of it so I can actually never turn it off. And because of this I cannot do the thing where I have to restart my Windows 10 pc to disable driver signature verification otherwise I could use my PC to fix it.
Everytime before when I flashed roms back and forth from stock and Cm 12.1 I didnt use a PC I just used the MOJO itself.
I do have a physical keyboartd in my arsenal though so if there is a way to force the MOJO into recovery upon bootup with a certain Key combination I dont know about it. It's really crazy to believe that changing the CM themes is actually what screwed my MOJO rather than all the times before I've done so much more risky things on it.
Anyway if you guys can help me I would appreciate it. If not I just am going to cry myself to sleep. My email is [email protected] if you want to get in touch with me if you cant on here. THANKS

I think first I'd replace the PC. If that's not practical, try to boot it to this .iso once you've burned it to CD:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/62oh30gzjzvsbew/sulu2-528.007-android.iso
Download the recovery.img to root's home, connect to the MOJO and turn it on, open a terminal and issue:
# fastboot -i 0x0738 boot openrecovery-twrp-2.8.2.0-mojo.img
Should boot the MOJO into the recovery. If you can't get your PC to boot properly I think you're OOL. You might look into getting a used PC, one that's out-of-date or simply has a bad (or no) HDD, that you can pick up cheap, and use this simple Linux distro (Puppy Linux it is, with fastboot and adb binaries installed by me) for an OS. But be careful, Linux is addictive, and you may find yourself in the same predicament as I am: losing patience with the bloated domineering Windows OS.
Hi thank you for the response. Replacing my PC is on my list but it is also easy to just go on without turning it on but i look to renew ym warranty with Alienware and having them fix or replace it, even though they should do it for free because it seem to be an issue alot of people are having with the early Alienware Alphas.
Anyways my PC is an alienware Alpha it doesnt have a disk drive. Can I just put this .iso on a usb flash drive instead of a cd-rom ? If I can do I have to format the flash drive to a certain format ?
Thanks dude

You can flash this (or most other linux live-CD .iso files) to a USB drive with a utility called Unetbootin. IIRC it's available for Windows, Mac, or Linux. I have no idea whether your Alpha is capable of booting to it, though. Any chance of borrowing another PC, maybe one a bit more traditional? Your little brother's old slow laptop maybe? FWIW I just finally managed to get fastboot and adb working on a Chromebook with an ARMv7 processor, but I doubt you want to go through that much work. Does the Alpha have an Intel processor?

Non stop booting - Help!

Hi,
I downloaded Phoenix OS 64 bit exe. Ran the app, and installed the OS on the same partition "C" on which I have Win 10. As the installation gets done, I restarted the laptop. It asks to boot in to Win 10 or Phoenix OS. I chose Phoenix, but the system rebooted to the same options to choose from Win or Phoenix.
Is there any fix
Hello?
Does grub give any errors after selecting Phoenix? Does any white on black text appear after selecting? Which version do you use and what kind of hardware (CPU/GPU)? Next time give more information from the beginning, maybe you could have gotten more help.

No!
As the Phoenix OS installer finishes the installation, I restarted the Windows. It showed me a screen to select from Win 10 or Phoenix. I chose Phoenix, a white text appear with a black background. Screen kept flashing for 3 to 4 times, without any text. I kept waiting for the Phoenix OS, but it booted me again to the first step to choose from Win or Phoenix.
My BIOS setting is Legacy. I tried to change it to UEFI, it showed me some error that device missing or something.
Laptop Specs:
AMD A8 series APU, 6 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Radeon Mobility R5.
BUMP!
I downloaded the ISO file and made a bootable USB with Rufus and it does the same thing just reboots after installation no errors even if I try to boot without installation from the USB it just keeps rebooting I'll try to find a different version tomorrow maybe it'll work
Same, I never got it to work with NTSF...
same thing happened to me.
in my case it shows language selection window and then agreement window, then right after it freezes and computer reboots.
same as me. my laptop is restarting into windows while choosing prime os or phoenix os( i tried both methods with exe file installation or iso for prime os)
the pheonix os i downloaded is the best it boots into the os then the caps lock starts blinking and it reboots back in the selection screen.. i looked online for fixes and everyones saying to turn off the wifi adaptor and use a lan cable. but whats the point of doing this. like honestly remix os does the job but it dosent have the proper keymapper for gaming other then that its great. lets just face it pheonic os is a piece of ****
Hey man, I just faced this issue and can't seem to find any solution so far, so if you've figured a solution for this can you please share it with me ... Thanks.

Sailfish OS for the Samsung Galaxy Note - N7000

Code:
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!! Everything you do, !!
!! you do at your own peril and risk. !!
!! !!
!! I do not bear any responsibility !!
!! for your faulty devices. !!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First I would like to thank elros34, mal, adampigg and all the Sailfish OS porter guys who helped me to make this port.
Thank you very much, guys!
Requirements:
Before you start to download anything, please read all this carefully.
The first requirement is your device must be rooted and you should be able to install a custom recovery (preferably TWRP) onto it.
Installation instructions:
1. Download all files, LOS14.1 zip, Sailfish OS zip and kernel*.img to the external SD card on the phone
2. Reboot into TWRP (Hold buttons: Power on + Home + Volume up)
3. Do a factory reset
4. Still in recovery, flash the LOS14.1 image
5. Still in recovery, flash Sailfish Os image
5. Still in recovery, flash kernel*.img into /boot partition
8. Reboot
9. Enjoy the latest (4.0.1.48) Sailfish OS on your Galaxy Note (N7000)
You will need patience as the first boot will take for a while. Then you can go through the initial Sailfish OS set up.
This Sailfish OS Android HAL based on LOS 14.1.

Apps from Openrepos
Apart from the Jolla store, there are plenty of other, community-made apps in Openrepos. There is a user-friendly app to install/remove apps from this source called Storeman. It can be downloaded and install from this location: Storeman
Debug/login/troubleshooting:
In Ubuntu, connect USB cable. telnet 192.168.2.15 2323 or SSH [email protected]
Notes:
On Sailfish OS, as it is a Linux system, you cannot install/run any android apps.
How to make a backup/restore with TWRP:
You can boot into TWRP with the usual button combination (Hold buttons: Power on + Home + Volume up) and can make backup/restore.
Changelog:
24.03.2021

GPS
The softkeys (each side of the home button) work as notification LEDs
Wifi
MTP
Calls incoming/outgoing
Messages incoming/outgoing
Mobile data
S-Pen works as a mouse. To make the cursor visible you need to do some manual work as Patchmanager doesn't yet work on sfos 4.0:
install mousetracker
amend '/var/lib/environment/compositor/droid-hal-device.conf' file, add the -plugin evdevmouse:abs:/dev/input/event9 to the end of LIPSTICK_OPTIONS. (That line should look like this:
Code:
LIPSTICK_OPTIONS=-plugin evdevtouch -plugin evdevkeyboard:keymap=/usr/share/qt5/keymaps/droid.qmap -plugin evdevmouse:abs:/dev/input/event9
as final step copy this compositor.qml into /usr/share/lipstick-jolla-home-qt5/
(Rename the existing one in there first!)
External SD card detected and mounted to /run/media/nemo/_sdcard_name_ (where _sdcard_name_ is the name of the sd card when it was formatted like 4B93-785B)
Home button and the Back soft button
Vibra
Pixel ratio and icons set to 1.25
Audio is routed to headphone if that presents
Camera front/rear (only for taking pictures)
Jolla store
findutils is installed by default (updatedb and locate commands work out of the box)
Torch
the charging icon does work properly however there is a little delay
can boot into TWRP recovery with the usual button combination (hold buttons: Power on + Home + Volume up)
kernel and recovery .img can be flashed from TWRP (no need for PC to flash Sailfish OS, kernel and recovery)
Low Power Mode (AKA "sneak peek" or "ambient display") works (install instruction is in this post)
Do not work:
Bluetooth
Light sensor is turned off
Video recording (WIP)
Video playback (WIP - until you can use Kodi for playing videos)
Just like with the S2 (i9100) there is an extra little issue is a delay in screen refresh.
Battery life:
In my experience the battery life is good. (Although the battery I have in the device is VERY old.)
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing! Installed successfully.
In my case I used CWM to flash lineageOS + Sailfish and Heimdall to flash the kernel img.
Found issues
Camera doesn't work (black screen for both rear and front one)
Problem with keyboard switching (to symbols and back). It doesn't redraw itself until you press any button.
Native browser doesn't work at all (wi-fi connection works and another browser installed from jolla store also works)
Everything works very slow as expected for this device.
Anyway it is cool to test this OS even on such an old device.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
The camera is an interesting issue because it is working on my device. (I use the very first build, which didn't even boot into the UI and where then I manually applied all fixes. Now it has most of the stuff working.) However, I couldn't make it work in newer builds. No matter what I tried, the camera just reluctant to work.
The other problem relating to the keyboard is, unfortunately, is also a result of that device is being old. (The same issue appears on my Galaxy S2 (i9100) which is an identical device.) I don't think this can be fixed but I think if you are aware of this it is bearable.
The native browser is also painful on these old devices. It might be improved in the newer 4.1 SFOS but I have not built that yet, so cannot confirm. I hope will find some time eventually to refresh all of my ports including this one to SFOS 4.1.
I am glad you are happy to try this OS on this ancient device. It was a nice addition to my collection too.
Came as I was searching for the sailfish os for note9, glad to see some Samsung users enjoying the OS, maybe one day someone will port to other devices too.

Haven't been here for a while but this might not be too late.
Do the following:
With Odin install Philz recovery: PhilZ-cwm6-XXLT4-OXA-4.93.6.tar.md5
Boot into recovery and install Los14.1 Nightowl-lineage14.1-20180215-n7000.zip or any ROM that is available for the N7000. (The Nightowl ROM will install TWRP, so if you are more familiar with TWRP, just reboot into recovery again and you can flash the wanted ROM.)
I have a problem with mobile data, it cannot connect. thanks for work!

Install LineageOS 18.1 - on Walmart Onnbox 4K - dopinder

I was looking to install LineageOS 18.1 and was having a hell of a time.
I was following the instructions, and I can get as far as booting into the LineageOS recovery, but then I can't navigate to ADB using the front button on the box. I am also finding it difficult to find a working OTG cable that works and has the ability to provide power. (so I can remove the USB cable from my laptop and plug in a USB keyboard without powering off the android box)
Anyone have any tricks or suggestions on a OTG cable or USB switch they know works on this? Or better yet, how to get the front navigation button working on the Onn Box working ot how I can enter recovery mode if I try fastboot flash (Impossible to enter recovery instead of boot to OS) instead of fastboot boot?
Here are the instructions I was using. Great until you get to the fastboot flash, since once you reboot it goes straight into the OS and will over right the custom recovery. Then when I fastboot boot, it works, but then the navigation button doesn't work to get to the next step. lol.....

on a side note, I have a OTG cable that splits and works on my laptop to fastboot boot the recovery. But once I am in the LineageOS recovery and connect a USB keyboard, it doesn't respond either. (So maybe the LineageOS recovery is the problem?)
I've tried both from https://updater.oddsolutions.us/#/devices/dopinder/builds
lineage-18.1-20220324-recovery-dopinder.img
lineage-18.1-20220317-recovery-dopinder.img
I also tried the 19.0 revoceries (stays in Onn fastboot even after successful fastboot boot) I also tried the earliest 18.1 recovery.
Tried:
lineage-19.0-20220228-recovery-dopinder
lineage-19.0-20220114-recovery-dopinder
lineage-18.1-20210804-recovery-dopinder

Has anyone had success getting LineageOS 18.1 flashed on the Dopinger devices? If so, which recovery did you use? (maybe an earlier release works?) If so, where can I get it? (the above link only has the last 2 releases)
Right now I am very suspicious that the recoveries are not working properly for this device.
Here's the extra instructions after you adb reboot into the bootloader using the guide:
1) fastboot flash recovery <recovery file name >
2) fastboot boot <recovery filename> **to get into lineageos recovery mode
At this point the recovery is unresponsive to any inputs (i.e onn 4k button pushes or USB keyboards)
3) In lineageOS recovery mode you can use the basic adb command to reboot recovery into sideload mode
adb reboot sideload **Devs apparently specially enabled this as a workaround for the no input in the recovery
From here you can continue to use the official guide to sideload the lineageos. At this point I was basically dirty flashing, which worked. But I'm sure people can format and erase the stock OS via adb commands if they're motivated enough.
Two issues I noticed with Onn 4k is that plex was super stuttery for almost everything I played (never tested plex on stock OS).
I also performed a factory reset, and afterwards WiFi was unable to reconnect. So I gave up for now and went back to my mibox s until I have time to look further.
Thanks again for the information to help me get lineageos on this device!

Then when I fastboot boot, it works, but then the navigation button doesn't work to get to the next step. lol.....

What I ended up doing was hardwiring an extra USB cable internal, wasn't too hard soldering isn't my strongest skill by any means, but it's held up. I don't know exactly what the connection beside the USB is, but if I'm remembering correctly that's where i ended up wiring to it. Actually just tried to stay as close to the other power input as possible Just because it seemed like it would be best practice.
Also in case anyone needs them. decent internal photos
Best of luck, I've been running it this way for almost 6 months now
Has this project died? I've noticed the oddsoulutions website no longer works, and I found one page that said that it was forcing updates now that would reset the device back to factory. Bummer, I bought one last year and have been moving and didn't have time to try it out. Now I have times and all the links have gone dry.

note that on dopinder, unofficial LOS19.1 installs & works, but L1 still not working (as of today ... hopefully npjohnson & others can fix it) in the lineage19.1 version linked by BTK19 in previous post. so, if you are set on DRM content, might want to wait. I bought a Dynalink/wade while I wait, and Lineage19.1 unofficial works well on that. just costs 2X $ !
