Is it possible to downgrade Nexus? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm now using Android Oreo, but I'm considering installing unofficial Android system to my Nexus. I'd like to try Android Oreo or android Nougat. But the thing is I'm afraid that my phone may be laggy or buggy.
According to the post for Nougat port, the camera doesn't work well on the system.
So I'm wondering if I can downgrade to my Android Lollipop in case I can't stand the new system.
Thanks!

You can switch ROMs back and forth at any time, just make sure you make backups and always do a clean flash. Custom ROMs are always a subject to bugs so go for the most stable one you can find which would be Lineage OS.

There are many rock stable Nougat ROMs available for mako and you can easily find them on xda. Even some of the Oreo ROMs are stable enough to be daily drivers...
And yes, you can downgrade or upgrade the versions as you wish (that's the benefit of having a Nexus phone, isn't it?)

Just got my Nexus 6P and don't know what to flash

I've unlocked and rooted. I have several questions atm:
1. Is Nougat stable or recommended?
2. Can I use exposed framework/Viper4android on Nougat?
3. Can I flash back to Mashmellow after flash nougat and don't like it?
Thank you in advance.

1. Yes, for the most part.
7.0 ROMs are based on official 7.0 source and are very stable. 7.1 ROMs are also generally stable, but they aren't based on stable source for the 6p because google hasn't released it yet. Though it seems official 7.1.1 will be coming to the 6p next week.
There is a bit of a transition period right now as ROMs are going from 7.0 > 7.1.
2. Last a heard is that Xposed isn't ready for Nougat. But I'm not sure about Viper. I do not use either one.
3. Yes.

Thanks. I just found that viper4android can work on Nougat. I am still thinking to flash mashmellow and wait for Nougat to go mature.

Exynos N910C: recommended Android 7 builds

I'm looking for recommendations on what would be the best 7.x rom for N910C.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Well... at the moment there are no Nougat ROMs and probably Note 4 will never get such an update. I guess we may see some some extremely buggy AOSP Nougat ROMs in the future but thats it.. who knows!
we will get nougat roms and may be official nugat update
There are no N910C nougat ROMs at this moment.
Samsung wont release an offical ROM
Our best oportunity comes from the developers here, one is trying to port a nougat ROM from samsung's tablet, but that's all there it is.
Finally, Nougat was released more than 6 months ago... at one point it would be more wise for any developer to start working on android O, and forget about nougat. In that situation you will loose all hope for any new ROMs for the N910c.
Sorry, but that's the awfull truth.

N9005 roms and official 7.1 builds ?

After a recent disaster with my S5 I replaced it with a Note 3 n9005.
Am very happy with the phone but it has so much potential to be better. Are there any 7.1 roms that are actively being updated and is there any chance of official builds any time soon.
I would love to put 7.1 on this phone but don't want to get stuck with bugs I have to put up with for extended periods.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

There are always bound to be bugs when dealing with unofficial software like ports or ROMs, they're not perfect. As for an official Nougat release for a 4 year old phone that doesn't even have an official Marshmallow release? I highly doubt it. I would suggest just sticking with stock.
Thanks for the reply guys.
I know Samsung will never upgrade this phone to nougat or above but the custom rom community have done some amazing things bringing the latest versions of android to older phones when their manufacturers stop supporting them to make you buy their latest an greatest phone.
When I asked about official builds I was referring to Resurrection Remix or Lineage LOS 7.1 builds which get weekly updates. There will always be bugs I know but weekly builds help to fix them.

If I may suggest, I would try out a Note 7 port. I know it's not Nougat but in my opinion, Marshmallow with the Note 7 features is just as good and a lot of people have tested them out and are really stable. But as for more Nougat ROMs, RR and Lineage I think are the only options but I haven't tried them myself.
There is an official Note 5 Nougat rom out, so it should be possible to port that. We just have to wait for someone with the knowledge and interest to do it.
I'm running the Note 7 Phronesis Marshmellow rom, and I highly recommend it if you don't want to wait for a Nougat rom.

Thank you am currently trying the Phronesis Rom N7 v5.2 and am liking it very much very smooth and seems very stable.
And if i'm reading the forum correctly there should be a V6 version becoming available in the next couple of days.
thanks for the recommendation this rom will do very nicely until or if someone ports the N5 nougat rom which we can only hope for.

There are a few pie options for this phone. I haven't tried any yet. Just read all the threads they all have descriptions of what is in the room. So you have to do some research to figure out what is best for you. And I can't stress this enough. Read read read the directions for installing. There are a few extra steps involved in flashing pie because of the change to the filesystem or encryption or something. Also there is a fix if your phone has experienced the boot loop issue.
Personally I am waiting for los 16 because I know it will be be stable not saying the others are not but los is just what I have been using and cm before that so that's where I am comfortable. Good luck and happy flashing
I'm running the Pixel Experience ROM on my Nexus 6P. It's a really good ROM and works great!
I have tried all Pie roms for 6P, and by far all of that works quite perfectly. There're still some minor bugs like Volte not working or Wifi hospot broken, but overall almost all Pie roms is solid enough for daily use. In my opinion, you can flash any of them, all are very good, but I prefer unofficial AOSiP Pie because it provides a lot of customizations.

IS it worth to install custom roms?

Like the title says, is the original rom good? Or should i go custom right as i boot it 1fst time
It worth it, at least you get the notifications work correctly and shows at the top of the status bar unlike the stock rom..
My advice to you is to istall lineage only, it's the most stable rom so far.
It depends on your priorities, if you want more choice, more control on what apps are pre installed, no bloatware, and more customization options, then that's what custom roms are for. But mind that it comes with lower security, at least as long as the manufacturer updates the device. Because custom roms usually run with looser security settings and features.
does custom roms fix the touchscreen lag on the edges?
Not worth it yet. Wait till official lineage and official trwp are released. More risky to use custom roms whose source codes are not released.

as i've seen and read in the forums, the unoffical lineage rom seems to be very stable already. Which problem do you see in flashing this version now?
My bootloader is unlocked in 3 hours and i want to get rid of this EMUI crap and bloatware

You don't get updates on unofficial versions and it's not as well maintained/supported as name implies. I rather keep bootloader locked and secured, and get almost monthly updates from xiaomi. Until official TWRP and LOS are released, as stated earlier. No need to rush and deal with instability or unexpected problems. I debloat unnecessary apps using SAKI program on stock room without root. I honestly think this is the best path to go for now.
I won't install any custom roms before official TWRP support and official LineageOS ROM support comes. I'd not also unlock my phone's bootloader untill those two thing comes.

I switched to Pixel Exirience rom from the global 10.3.5 and touch latency on the edges still the same.
I don't know what custom rom users priorities are, mine definitely having a smooth and proper working device. Most roms I tested in the past simple but most used features, like the camera, were always a headache. It might make sense for a techie or geek, but for daily use I'd rather debloat MIUI for mind peace...

any of you guys installed xiaomi.eu? seems like the better version of miui IMO.

have you tried flashing another kernel?
Maybe THIS can help you with your choice.

The Evira Kernel is built into the PE, so i just updated it to the last 1.9 version and did not feel any difference.

If you just want to get rid off the bloatware, just use adb commands. No unlocking and rooting needed
If you got the 3GB/32GB variant. then lineage OS or pixel experience should save you some extra GBs of storage and free you some extra ram (MiUI 10.3.5 uses 1.6GB or something IDLE and leaves you with 20GB storage with stock apps)
It is to early. You have latest version of Android OS on your phone, and Xaomi still give us updates with some new features.
Custom Roms are still developing and have some bugs,so .. I will no rush with installing custom rom yet. Thats my opinion.
When Xaomi stop supporting us and giving us updates, after one year that is sure that will happen, than will custom ROMs will be fully developed..and can install it..
I would like to have custom rom ,and Elvira kernel, I like tweaks and mods from Magisk. But also I want to see MIUI 11 and next Xaomi updates for RN7.
As soon as I could, I unlocked my bootloader and installed AOSP (GSI).
I don't really like MIUI, it has a lot of nice features but actually I don't use most of them.
For me, it's worth.
