Essential Dialer APK - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

I have a bit of a favor for those with root on the stock Essential ROM...
I'm on Lineage OS now, but I forgot to grab the Essential Dialer APK before I switched over. Since that dialer is essentially the Google Dialer, I know it should work fine on Lineage. I'm just hesitant to grab it from APK Mirror because there are so many versions of it that I don't know which would even be compatible.
Thanks for any help! Love this community!!!

Maybe i´m wrong but after you installed Lineage and Gapps open Google Play Store and search for the Google Dialer. Its the same apk and thru Google Play Store you get the right vision, automatically.

it's the stock google dialer. for whatever reason, all the google functions still work on essential. not sure why, because non-google phones if you side load it, the search functions don't work.

It's weird. On Lineage, the Play store doesn't give me the Dialer in any results. So as a result, I tried just sideloading the latest compatible version from APK Mirror and it made my phone go a bit crazy. Perhaps I'll just use the regular Dialer that comes loaded with Lineage. Thanks guys.

On lineage, I installed the stock Google phone app because I wanted spam blocking. The phone app worked fine, I was able to make it the default app, and spam filtering worked... Until I rebooted and got repeat errors that wouldn't let the os load, effectively soft bricking the phone. I had to re install lineage. Just an fyi

When I installed Lineage and did a restore, it automatically downloaded the Google Dialer from the Playstore for me.

The phone apk the comes on essential's stock ROM is Google's dialer apk. When you install any LOS or AOSP based ROM you are getting the EXACT same thing. Lineage likes to use an older version of it, reasons why idk, but if you install Gapps you will get Google dialer out of the box and will be able to update to the latest version. Even the stock launcher, quickstep, is used in most of these ROMS, as well as on essential phone, stock ROM. You didn't miss getting anything installing Gapps does add apks and features that don't come stock on essential's stock ROM, along with whatever features the custom ROM you picked may have added but speaking strictly and specifically about the dialer itself it is exactly the same as Google Dialer APK

You're close... But wrong...
Any "LOS or AOSP" ROM is supposed to ship with the AOSP dialer... Because of its OSS nature...
The Google dialer is the AOSP dialer... But with much proprietary code added...
This should not ship with "any LOS or AOSP" ROM... Though it does... Because people can't read instructions on how to flash on A/B devices...
Anything associated with Google services... Is supposed to come via a GAPPS package...

[Q] Install themes without ROMS?

All i really want are themes to make my device look cool
and i heard you need roms to install themes
i unlock root device perfectly fine
but everytime i try to install a rom my device ****s up and im forced to reset
(the rom loads up but the device only has like 3 apps no play store and stuff like that, no google features which i like)
so it is possible on stock rom?
For custom roms you have to flash a Google Apps (Gapps) package separately. This contains all the google apps you need.
Btw, you can try installing Xposed Framework and XThemeEngine. They require root.
Or wait for the Themer app by MyScreenColor to be released. It will be a non-root app and contains awesome designer themes.

how do i know which Gapp i need?
im trying to install carbon 1.8
Most of the times, there are links for both the rom and the proper gapps package in the threads. If you can't find it there, download one from here: http://goo.im/gapps
I suppose you could just use a 3rd party launch that you could just re-theme? Not sure if you're talking more about the innards of the OS. I think your only option may be to root.
edit: someone already posted my idea, whoops.

[Q] Play Store

Hi guys,
I've been using OmniROM for some time now and I'm liking a lot. I like their open source "philosophy" and so on but lately, I'm facing a problem that I cannot solve by myself.
I'm trying to find a way to install Play Store to gets some apps that I want/need but I don't want to install all the other Gapps that comes with the packages. I managed to get the apk but after installing it, I don't get it to work. It tries to start but before it even opens, it closes quickly...
Do I need something else in order to make it work?? Google services maybe? I wouldn't like to have more than Play Store if possible.
Greetings!

I believe PA gapps has a "micro" version which has the bare minimum needed for Play Store.
(FYI, most if not all of the Omni developers use PA Gapps - tkruzze does a great job.)
OK so I'll have to flash the Gapps...
What I don't like is that they overwrite some aosp apps :\
Ty anyway @Entropy512!
Edit: What about installing Play services + play store?? Would that be enough?

By the way @Entropy512 or anyone else, do you know which files are imperative to install Google Play (Google Play itself, GP services...)and which aren't? (Google tts...) I would like to install just the needed ones only.
Greetings!

TKruzze provides multiple packages for the GApps, and most of them don't overwrite the AOSP apps.
In fact, as I read it now, only the "Google Stock Package" do replace AOSP browser, Calendar, Camera, Launcher, TTS, Keyboard and SMS by default by their Google products' counterpart. And there is even an easy way, using this package, to prevent some or all the AOSP apps to be replaced -- read TKruzze's posts to find out how.
The other packages don't overwrite the AOSP apps (except AOSP Calendar becoming replaced by Google Calendar). By default, they install the Google apps along side the AOSP ones.

Yup. That's why I suggested the "micro" package - I'm fairly certain this doesn't overwrite anything and includes the absolute minimum for the Play Store to work.
Now what is annoying is that some of the Play Store versions of Google apps have the same package names as AOSP variants which causes conflicts. Google Camera is one such example, which is the reason I'm in the process of renaming the AOSP-derived camera package in Omni.
Thanks guys, I'm gonna try out those options and see which suits me better

Praranoid Android missing google apps

I just installed latest Paranoid Android on my Moto E but it doesn't have any google apps not even play store.
I am trying to install Play Store manually but it tells can't open file. So, plz tell me how to install it or how to install any app in this ROM.
Ummm. Just like EVERY other ROM, you have to flash gapps. We can't include gapps in the ROM (legally, nobody can)
So, there is no way to install gapps ?

Really?
You couldn't just Google, 'gapps'? And find that there are links to gapps packages to install?
Or read a development forum on this website and see exactly how to do it?
Or watch a video?
Anything?
Of course you can install gapps....
I tried and installed successfully but Apps getting in not responding mode.
Sounds like you flashed a version of gapps not meant for your version of Android.
yeah....that could have happened....

Google Assistant hotword apk switch not working on NMF26F?

It seems Google Assistant hotword apk swap on NMF26F 7.1.1 no longer works for training the vice activation.
I've tried the old apk, and the new one, same thing.
Can anyone else confirm?
Anyone find a solution on NMF26F?

What are you trying to swap where?
@Jammol
In android 7.x prior to NMF26F, to get Google Assistant working correctly, you had to swap out OK Google enrollment apk (hotwordenrollment.apk)
Otherwise a screen would pop up asking you to train your voice every time you said OK Google.
This swapping out of apks does not seem to work on NMF26F anymore.

That's weird. I have never had to swap that apk on stock Android. Assistant works by just flashing any of the mods for it, and wiping the data of the Google app. Are you referring to when flashing AOSP Roms and getting assistant perhaps?
@Jammol
Custom ROMs yes, mostly based on AOSP, but primarily on the stock Nexus firmware, as I specify here NMF26F 7.1.1 for 6p

That's why I asked what and where. Lol.
The hot word swapping hasn't been working for some since 7.1 AOSP based Roms. All of the STOCK based Roms don't need it either unless the dev stripped out everything Google related and force you to flash OpenGapps.
However, what you saying is that you are on a STOCK based 7.1.1 rom and the assistant isn't working? What is the rom name?

That Rom is still AOSP based. Are you copying a Deodexed version of the apk? That Rom appears to be Deodexed, and I know that the Stock firmware os Odexed by default. You can check the PN or CM14 thread to see if anyone has posted a Deodexed version of the apk. You can probably even just Google Search for one.

You're welcome. I wish you the best of luck. Hotword detection has been the biggest pain in the butt with AOSP ever since OpenGapps made changes to the way they build Gapps.

I should note however that it's the same hotword apk I've copied in the past, and it worked. For some reason the same apk does not work this time.
Maybe the developer of ROM switched odex/deodex with the latest build.
The previous build was 7.1 I think, where as the new one I thought he wrote was based off the new stock firmware NMF26F
Using the old oak doesn't work for me anymore either since upgrading to 7.11 on Nitrogen's latest build. I can train my voice and it will work the first time but everything then after it brings up the screen to train voice again. Oddly though if you dismiss the voice training by clicking the later button assistant is there and will work until you close it out.

Closest ROM to stock Oneplus 6t - without Gapps

Hi all!
I recently switched my OnePlus 6T stock rom to LineageOS but the camera is all buggy and it's quite awful to use.
My main idea was to limit the number of Google Apps installed on the phone and that was most of all.
I tried to search the roms available for OnePlus 6t, found a few of them, but they mostly have a tons of other changes that I'm not interested in.
So I'm hoping that you'll recommend me a - well-working on my 6T - ROM without Google Apps and the original Camera app.
Thanks !

Here you go no gapps
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...xxx-nolimits-1-0-speed-ram-optimized-t3799167
I had a similar experience with Lineage. Did not like it at all. My solution was to go back to the factory rom, root, use Titanium to go in and delete all the google stuff I can get away with. Unfortunately I have several apps that will not work without googleplay, or google services. I also downloade app opps app and used it to limit what apps can access and do what. Amazing how many apps want access to contacts, location, phone state, etc without user permission. I still have google on my phone, but it is limited and restricted. I downloaded all my apps through apk mirror, aurora store, and apk updater, never logged into my google account so I look like an anonymous (kinda) user. Maybe something here that might help you get where you want to be.
Thanks for the reply everyone.
I was hoping to find a rom really close to the stock one with just the gapps (and the OnePlus app) removed.
But since it's apparently not available, I noticed the Syberia Rom that might be interesting (OTA, have the Oneplus camera app)... maybe worth a try.

Most of custom ROMs come without gapps, or should. You should search for a ROM Micro-G compatible to be able to get rid of gapps and still use some Google applications.
Pure 'stock' ROM doesn't exist anymore as people rarely agree to use a pure AOSP without additional features. What is the most close to that are the 'Pixel' like ROMs.
