S5 Duos G900FD Baseband confusion: no update for my region/country + CP,AP,CSC differ - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear XDA,
to get my fingerprint sensor working with Lineage-OS 7.1.2 on my S5 Duos, I want to update the baseband firmware.
Because I couldn't find any clear information of the region of my phone (*#1234# didn't work with lineage-os), and there is no firmware for my country/region, I thought I go the super-easy way to update via Kies3.
Done so, but unfortunately the baseband isn't updated, and there are no FOTA/Kies3 updates available. AP has been updated to the latest version (G900FDXXS1CQD2), but not the baseband ...
When I check AP,CP,CSC on now-stock rom with *#1234#, it says:
AP: G900FDXXS1CQD2
CP: G900FDXXU1CQA4 (as before Kies3-update)
CSC: g900FDOJV1CQB1
On sammobile.com and samsung-updates.com I find G900FDXXs1CQD2 firmwares, but nowhere they say whether it's AP, CSC or CP (the thing I need updated).
I think I don't mind the region as long as English and French is included and I can use LTE in (Western) Europe.
Two questions:
1)
a) when it says "Version" on (can't post urls) samsung-updates: is this the CP/Baseband?
b) similar on sammobile.com: There is PDA and CSC, both differing. But I need baseband/cp.
2) I understand that there are no carrier-specific firmwares (S5 duos apparently not sold by carriers?). So if version/pda is also baseband, which firmware do I download? There are 8 different firmwares with G900FDXXS1CQD2?
kind regards

1. Most likely it's AP, but CP should be the same as AP inside. Sorry, it looks like CQA4 is the latest CP for this S5 variant.
2. Most likely any if you're planning to flash modem only.
CPs will be the same.
Carrier firmwares within one S5 VARIANT and firmware VERSION differ by CSC and hidden partition size.

Question on flashing/rooting/bootloaders/upgrading/terminologies...

I'm getting my Note 3 (international variant I believe... I'm in Singapore) soon and I just want to clarify a few terminologies related to all the topics in the title.
I understand AP refer to PDA, CSC refer to consumer software customization (specific to geographical region) and CP I have no idea.
Then, what are MJ1/MJ7/MK4? I know they are codes that refer to version numbers (year month and revision no.) but are they version numbers of firmwares, or PDA, or CSC, or what? For example in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540853&nocache=1) the guy has AP MJ1, CP MI2, and modem MJ1. Why aren't they all the same?
When ppl say like MJ7 has the knox-enabled bootloader so don't update to it or you can't ever downgrade again, are they referring to MJ7 firmware/AP/CP/CSC? Since all of them have similar identifiers which may differ, how do I know what they are referring to?

What does "could not locate csc data package?"

I have a Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900), which is absolutely genuine, but purchased from China, so it is therefore “Region Locked”. I have tried to get this ‘unlocked’ by various companies advertising on Ebay etc, but they are unable to do so. I Downloaded the “Region Lock Away” successfully, and then when I press “Region Unlock”, I am given the message: “Could not locate CSC data! You could try flashing a CSC package to correct this”. So my question obviously is, how do I do this, especially as I am somewhat nervous at anything more involved, (i.e. ‘Rooting’ etc). Any and all help will be appreciated.
The CSC package is inside file cache.img from one Rom.
Look the attach img from N900 (files from Rom to flash by Odin), there are two files cache.img + hidden.img.
Making a Mod csc.tar.md5 whit this two files from one Rom having Your CSC, we can flash it by Odin in csc and we have it installed.
This example attached have only the csc SER from Russia.
Thank you Valente for your reply, it is appreciated, but please could I ask how in simple steps I actually do this.......you are dealing with a 66 year old here!!
My kindest regards,
Bernard
Well, in Portugal the N900 is not sale only N9005 then I only give You some idea. But this isn't so simple.
First You must give me what is Your Rom working. On phone keyboard type *#1234# (may be return) and You have the AP, CP and CSC
Send me this. Then what Your CSC and Carrier/Operator to see from what Rom we must extract the cache.img.
Your N900 must have the 4.3 then the Knox also, it's true? If yes it have the Knox botloader and on Odin sometimes isn't possible to flash for example a csc_version OXX or OXA from UK over one for Chine like ZC, Knox bootloader not permit because region not compatible.
Send me that data to see what is possible. Alright?
PS: You have access root already?

Thank you Valente....you are very kind, and I have to say, you English is very good. I will try to answer as best as I can.
The 3 references are:
AP: N9000ZCUBMI5
CP: N9000ZCUBMI3
CSC: N9000CHNBMI5
My SIM is with Orange (United Kingdom).
I am not sure what else you may need, but I have not "Rooted" the phone other than to download the "Region Lock Away" app.
Thank you again,
Bernard

This is not good. Your Model is a SM-N9000 and not a SM-N900. Is a Chinese Model unknown on Sammobile.
See on Settings / General / About Device... You must have Model number SM-N9000. True?
In this case You not have anything on Sammobile to this device.
See here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ write N9000 on white box on top right and You see N9000Q nothing for N9000
Anyway if You write there N900 You see many Rom's for many Countries but not for UK. There aren't UK CSC's for N900.
The Rom is a ZC, You can't flash anything from European XX Rom´s over it. And it have a single csc=CHN not have a Multi CSC (a CSC package). I unknown solve Your problem.
In this case I can't help You, is very difficult. Sorry.

What is the correct firmware to download

Hi. I have a Galaxy Note 4 N910C that is bought from U.A.E (United Arab Emirates) it was given to me but was rooted. So I cannot update it via OTA. So decided to just flash a rom manually via odin. I'm quite new to flashing but I know how to do it. So I went to Sammobile for firmwares. Before anything else. I am in
Android 4.4.4 Kitkat
Baseband : N910CXXU1ANL2
Build : KTU84P.N910CXXU1ANK5
In my box there's : N910CZWEXSG
So in my box, the last three is XSG which is the country code for UAE so I went to filter the roms via country code and I am confuse in the available roms for download.
There is a PDA which is N910CXXU1ANK5. So I assume that is the correct rom? But there's this CSC? What is it? And in my baseband N910CXXU1ANL2 what does it mean?
For the available download with PDA N910CXXU1ANK5, it's CSC is N910COJV1ANK5 . Is that the correct rom for me?

Best (least limited) stock Lollipop firmwares for SM-N9005

Since my Note 3 is rooted I've been applying updates via Odin. Few last firmwares (for SEB and BTU regions) I flashed were somewhat limited - for example, there was no option to disable camera shutter sound. Originally the note came with XSI which seemed OK, but the only and newest stock firmware for XSI is of dec 2015. So my question is - what region firmware should I choose to get somewhat up to date Lollipop with no silly limitations like the option to disable camera shutter sound being removed and such?
Put your model number in sammobile.cm it will show firmware .
EG BTU last issue is 02.12.15

I am doing that, but the firmware date does not tell me if there are specific region restrictions in that firmware.
Never seen any pointer to region restrictions .
Apart from the obvious CSC and Modem may be region specific .
BTU = UK etc .

SM-G8850 Samsung Galaxy A9 Star change from CHC to TGY

I have a Samsung Galaxy A9 Star (SM-G8850) purchased on the Chinese market. Once updated to the latest firmware I get:
AP: G8850ZCU3ASA1
CP: G8850ZCU3ASA1
CSC: G8850CHC3ASA1
Model: SM-G8850/DS
The firmware comes with all the usual Chinese crapware and I would like to switch it to the Hong Kong (TGY) firmware in order to access Google Play Services and use it outside China. I have found the official pages detailing the firmware versions (CHC for China, TGY for HK) and the appropriate page on SamMobile with instructions for uploading a new firmware using Odin.
Is this process safe and/or reversible? Do I need to root or install TWRP recovery first? Are the China/HK versions of the phone hardware-identical? Is there a guide for this for a similar phone that I could attempt to follow, is there anything else I need to consider relating to partition size? Is there a different way to install GApps and Google Play Services on a Chinese market phone? Has anyone tried this before?
Thanks for any help!
Update on progress. Unfortunately this is currently not possible for me since I updated the Chinese firmware from bootloader U1 to U3, and the latest version of the TGY firmware still uses U2. I think it would be necessary to root the phone to downgrade, which would trigger Knox.
CSC CHC: G8850ZCU3ASA1
CSC TGY: G8850ZHU2ASA1
Attempting to flash the old version results in "SW REV CHECK FAIL [abl]Fused 3 > Binary 2"
For anyone who has not yet updated, if flashing directly with the same bootloader level doesn't work, this guide seems likely to work:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/guide-changing-csc-s8-s8-root-t3799045
Using combination files available here:
https://combinationfirmware.com/combination-samsung-galaxy-a9-star
Would appreciate reports from anyone trying this. I will be waiting for a TGY build using U3.
Another update. TGY Build G8850ZHU3BSEB was released, with U3 bootloader and Android 9. Using this firmware, it is possible to change the phone from the Chinese CHC firmware to Hong Kong TGY firmware. The phone changes its model number from Galaxy A9 Star to Galaxy A8 Star. Simply download Odin 3.13.3 and the firmware from https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-a8-star/firmware/SM-G8850/ and flash.
