Sprint - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Does anyone use this phone on the sprint network? If so does anyone have issues with the data not working for some of the apps? I have to keep going in and resetting the APN settings and re adding the APN setting so I can go into the app.

Sprint user here. I have had no issues on my end and even get better data speeds then I got from my 6P. Not sure if it's the difference, but I flashed factory images and have factory reset my phone with each update release. Probably over kill with the factory reset on my end but since I root the device, better safe than sorry.

Another Sprint user. I don't have data issues. Infact I just checked my usage and I found out I did 35 gigs on this phone.
Sometime the voice calls don't come in and I wonder if it's a programming issue or it's a phone issue but overall this phone is a solid performer.

Well I used to work for Best Buy Mobile and used ##72786# all the time, but when I switched to Sprint and did a byod for my Nexus 6P me and tech support figured it out while on the phone. I believe any stock Google phone would be this way from what I gather. Plus I've used it in my Essential and works flawless.

It's not that they changed it technically, has more to do with EPST (or the lack thereof in this case).
Sprint phones with "native" Sprint software would do ##3282# or ##MSL# etc, whereas stock google would do *#*#3282#*#* etc.
Has been this way since the days of the Nexus S 4G...

I had this issue but found if I unstalled apps that weren't getting data for example Facebook and Zedge and re installed they where fine fixed the problem and still been having no issue after updating to Oreo beta

Installing Oreo fixed the problem?

None of it fixed my issue. First off I would recommend taking the Sim out and doing *#*#72786#*#*. Then when it asks for Sim put the Sim in

Well the first thing you should do is upgrade to MikShifted G v1.76. It's just a patch, so you won't lose any of your info. You can find the upgrade HERE. After you do that the MOD you want is on THIS THREAD. On that thread was also a link on how to change the PRL.
Force roam didnt work. And sprint data reset code for its msl isnt doing anything either
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
Do you mean ##775# ? When you say Force Roam didn't work, what exactly do you mean? Just trying to get a better grasp of what you mean.
##72786# and ##3282#, i typed it and the display showing what i typed went blank. The only way to get the touch pad to respond again was to hit the home button. And my phone did use the mod and i forced it to roaming but it still gave me a generic network error.

I am also having MMS problems. I used MikG 1.76. I switched back to x99percent Sense Stock rooted GB update 2.76.651.5. Works fine now. Maybe something having to do with MikG Rom. Mik hasn't updated it in awhile. Just released a few mods since 1.76

Not sure what your trying to do with ##72786# , as far as I know that's not a real code. ##3282# should bring up the ESPT menu, View or EDIT. Choose EDIT then enter your MSL. ##775# , is also valid. Just checked both on MikSHifted G, both codes work. Also just tried the Force Roam mod, all good. If you already updated your PRL / Profile. Try booting into recovery Wipe Dalvik, Wipe Cache, and then reboot.

Both sms and mms are heavily dependant on mobile data network. If you are connected to wifi and you are in a area with poor mobile data network or you don't have a mobile data plan then a lot of times you will not be able to send/receive texts or mms. If you have a mobile data plan try turning off your wifi before sending or to check for received messages.

Ok I Reflashed the MikG 1.76 and its starting to work again. No Generic Network Failure anymore. Sent mms on WiFi within seconds. No problem at all. Maybe it is the PRL. Try Reflashing the ROM completely if PRL doesn't work.
Its you bro. Not the network. "The key to self recovery is admitting you have a problem".

I am SOOOO over google wallet i'm going to pass out..

I can't take this piece of beta bull crap anymore... tried everything...I'm not an Apple fanboy at all.. i have an SGS3.. this is like my upteenthbillionth android device.. but you know what honestly... if Apple was rolling out a payment solution i know for damn sure i wouldn't be having these headaches.
First off, my device is NOT security locked, i've actually never been able to successfully get Google wallet working ONCE. everytime however that i do make a change i RESET google wallet anyway just for safe keeping..
here's where i'm at.. the most recent progress i've made is to use the PATCHED google wallet APK the -1 apk, and it worked it actually signs in, and lets me create my google wallet account..
now after days of trying to get that to work when i add the Google Wallet Prepaid card it just sits there and HANGS it never adds it.. and ive read posts from other people in the SAME situation as me and there's added right away...at this point this is where i'm at. it just wont ever add.. i reset the app and try again countless times and it still never adds the prepaid card. Anyone got anything else to advise before i completely throw the towel in on this?

As far as I know Google only officially sanctions Google Wallet on the Sprint network (maybe AT&T as well now, that I'm not sure). I can say for certain on Sprint it works without issue. I understand your frustration but you can't be mad at a provider for not providing to a non-sanctioned carrier - especially when comparing to Apple? that's just funny.

@ Computermilk first go into settings>apps.Wallet and clear cache, clear data, and force close. Then reboot into CWM clear cache & dalvik then fix permissions. After that setup should be a breeze.

Market not working after root and unlock

So I decided to root and unlock my 4.1.1 N7 today. Everything went according to plan. When I set myself to return my tablet to its former app glory, I found myself with the following message when opening Play Store:
Error retrieving information from server. (DF-DFERH-01)
Market was working before root. Funny thing is, despite being unable to open the play store, It is still able to auto update :/
Any thoughts? I already tried clearing/deleting market cache, no good...
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Just clear your app store data, ect. Then relaunch it. That is what I had to do.
I had the same error in my GNex today.....It has nothing to do with clearing up the data in the Apps settings.....
Clearing my app store data does nothing for me...

Have the same issue on My Nexus 7. Only difference being I've not used a bootloader or anything like that, it's just literally out the box. App store has never worked at all today, although i can install directly and still get updates...but not install those updates.
tried clearing cache and data then rebooting. removing email account and also removing google wallet settings.
No joy so far on any attempts I've made.
When I had this problem on my old GTablet, I had to force close Google Services Framework, clear data, then reboot to get it back. This is in addition to clearing cache and data of the Market.

I'm also from Puerto Rico but the problem seems to be with providers with local IP Address like Claro in the case of mobile phones or local internet providers like liberty, claro etc.. but not on Carriers with US IP addresses like tmobile or At&t tha's why I can access if I use my phone but not using my wifi at home.
Hope this helps, and if anyone finds an answer please let us know because i haven't seen any report on google about this issue.

935U Sprint App Compatibility

I'm thinking about moving to the 935U ROM for the sake of faster updates and removing some bloatware.
I do use Wi-Fi Calling, so I was wondering if anyone had setup the app successfully with the 935U ROM?
I also use the Sprint voicemail app - and i did find that the older apk works, just wondering if you there's been any compatibility issues?
Thanks

I'm using the Wi-Fi calling and it fine. It's just there's no Voicemail app. I installed the Sprint Voicemail on it, but it's having a hard time connecting.
no sprint vm apk's will work because they have dependencies on some other sprint apps which wont work properly because they have some on system files.
So unless someone debugs and finds all of those and ports them never gonna happen.
Unless sprint gets finger out of butts and makes a proper VM app like the other providers. This is them basically not supporting unlocked phones.
Ive been on 935U since it was available to install and generally love it. Excellent battery life. WIFI calling works fine for me as long as the wireless connection is solid. No voice mail app though and Sprint apps do not work on it which I have gotten used to at this point. I prefer not having all the bloat.
I have been having a couple issues recently, not sure if due to the latest security update. Ive had issues with the keyboard coming up blank, text messages being delayed and/or coming in all at once at the same time, and today I happened to check my voice mail and there was a message from this morning but my phone never rang. I have even had a complete lockup/reboot recently which I never had on this firmware. So not really sure whats up.
I have been thinking about getting back on a Sprint firmware for when Nougat is ready so might end up switching back.

Activities? It is too level under Settings. You won't confirm whether it is locked to Sprint or not, but it would seem so. Mine isn't. If you can't add a new APN by clicking the + icon then probably not.

I bought it from amazon and then swapped out my current phone for this one. So that means it shouldn't be locked right?

Probably not, but I'd think you'd know whether it was before you bought it. I can't begin to guess what the issue is since you can't directly access APN settings by going to settings, and I've never seen 'Activities' or whatever it was you used to access your settings. Normally you'd go to settings and get to mobile networks from there.
I don't know anything about Sprint but if you do a little research online, I think you'll find that if Sprint users on non-LTE networks or using project Fi don't have access to edit APNs normally. You probably need to go to a Sprint forum or contact them. Good luck.

Are you stock?. If so you might want to try *#*#DATA#*#* on dial pad. You might need MSL to edit stuff.

I can edit it, and the changes stick. Does anyone know what to change to get hotspot to work?

I think I saw somewhere that adding dun on apn type will get native hotspot working. I'm not on stock so I'm not sure if it works. Worth a try.

Already tried, didn't do anything .
Do you have the bootloader unlock?. If you do you might want to try to edit the buildprop.
