How to restore 16GB of internal storage? Only have 8.55GB - Huawei Ascend XT Questions & Answers

Well the phone advertised it's Internal Storage as 16GB. My phone has only 8.55GB internal storage and only 0.44GB available. I really don't have much on this phone.
Is there a ROM, tweak, or fix of some sort that will restore more of the original 16GB of storage?
Hard to believe the Base ROM/Firmware take up nearly 8 GB of the original 16 and you can't fix it.
From the digging I've done. None of the Roms restore the 16gb internal storage. I

Umm... I imagine there hasn't been any responses, because it's hard to to respond to this without being slightly incredulous . As you certainly seems to know, your phone does have 16gb of storage and yes, a good amount is taken by the operating system and included software. I can't tell if you understand the difference between memory and storage,though.. I'm not trying to be a **** or judge - you either know the difference, or you can Google it on your own discretion.
There's plenty of ways you can solve this, though... you can disable swap, freeing up storage at the expense of cache. You can 'debloat' your system, though unless you are fairly experienced with using shell commands I'd recommend a pre-debloated rom like madvane's s we ift and slim. Additionally, you can add a 32-64gb sd card and set it as default storage, basically leaving the rest of your free 8-10gb free for just apps. Beyond that, things get a bit more involved.. One solution is to use an app such as apps2sd, which basically requires using a specially formatted partition on your sd card as 'adootable storage', bind it to your internal storage's app resources, making an app located on your sd card act as if itwas right in your internal storage. Otherwise, you canuse similar methods to relocate data files like OBB's to your sd card.
Really, what else can you expect from an octacore 3gb/16gb phone with a 6in screen, that is easily unlocked and rooted, for much less than 100bux..? x]

how to defragment your SD card?

a stupid trick: connect your blackstone to the PC in "drive mode", and defragment it from the PC by right-clicking on the disk drive, properties --> tools-->defragment!
...no need of special software...
i knew that it is not reccomended to defragment flash drives/cards
Why would you defrag? No heads to move to the appropriate sector, no gain from defrag.
On other devices i used PocketMechanic very often to defragment cards, repair of loose clusters and such card stuff. Allways without any problem.
But PocketMechanic doesn't work stabil on the HD, be careful!
no moving parts of flash mean seektime is very very low
and as such fragmentation dont slow things down
and flash having a limited number of writes before it dies
like a cd-rw/dvd-rw just more of them
so defragging flash mem lowers it's life because of the writes
and dont speed things up because seektimes is not an issue
memory cards are older than the blackstone!
tons of information on the topic, let's start from the internal one:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/inde...ocket PC memory cards? Do I need this at all?
I think we may look at memory cards in the same way as a SATA SSD. In this case you can consolidate free space, which is excessively lighter on the writes than an old fashion full defrag.
Software that offers this option is available, and one example is Perfect Disc 10 and 11 (to my experience/knowledge).
So my advise is that if you need to defrag your SD card, which is a type of solid state drive, try to use free space consolidation only. This will be much easier on the wearing of the cells. I'm not quite sure of the P/E specs of SD Cards, or if they provide some wear leveling, but I'm reluctant to believe the latter is provided today for SD Cards like it is for most SATA SSD's.
I think SD card defragmentation is worth it when you have a HUGE and SLOW SD card.
I have a 32Gb SD card (from Kingston) in my Nexus One. I use Google Music Beta, Google Listen and Titanium Backup a lot! Since I reinstall/often upgrade my phone (I'm a geek after all and I'm totally happy!), the Music Beta Cache if often wiped out, I do daily Titanium Backup tasks and at least 3-5 podcasts are downloaded/wiped everyday.
This means a lot of fragmentation is "building up" on my SD card. Since, it is a slow SD, I often experience sluggishness or long load time even after a "fresh" install. The OS must read large files that are splitted on my VERY slow SD card, this does not help!
The problem is to get real numbers to prove this, It is mostly noticeable by navigating through the UI and/or loading some apps.
This was my 2 cents...

Tutorial: Extended internal memory of Dell Streak 5

When I changed a LCD and touch screen for my customer, I saw that internal memory is made from a SD micro card. So, I decided to extend mine.
I have used a 8GB class 6 micro SD with two partitions:
1GB EXT3 and 7GB EXT3.
I got 6,58GB free internal memory beside of 1,36GB.
some pictures:
i replace the internal memory with 8gb microsdhc class 10 from Kingstone and work great and the phone have more speed, i reed on a forum the phone support up to 32gb.
yes, but I think there is not limitation...

I fail to see a tutorial.
Quite awhile back, someone posted an actual tutorial, but it wasn't too clear. I was hoping this might be a clear one.
yup this isn't a tutorial at all
it is quite easy to replace the internal card when you have the Streak torn apart
i did that to mine with a 4GB class 10 and it made some difference
I might need some advice, guys..
I just changed the internal card to 8GB class 10, ghosted and the bigger partition extended by ghost but when I put the card to the phone, the phone hard reseted itself. Is it correct?
thanks
look it up I believe you have to change your build.prop or some other file, google it for a real tutorial on how to do this properly.. I think there might be more info in the dev section
try this

Is the default internal memory 2Gb ?
yes, it is.
When I looked at my internal SD card, I found out it was a 2G with 2 partitions. (One was 256mb and the other was 1.8G)
with the 2 different partitions, does one act as ram and the other as internal storage?
If that is the case, I will change my internal card to increase at least the ram portion.
Thanks in advance,
Richard
The other partition is the /cache partition, increasing it wont do anything.
Using a faster card could increase read speeds, but increasing size wont do anything beyond having more space, unless you start using compcache or something to increase available ram, and that doesnt involve the sd

[Q] i9500 Jumbled internal storage...

Greetings....
This is my first post but i have a quite serious problem, i hope someone here can help...
I just bought my S4 (GT-i9500,16GB) used 2 days ago, it had only 1 month of use, and there wasn´t any hit or scratch marks on the device but i feel something is wrong with the internal storage.
I already know about the 8gb limit thing so that´s not the case, checking the storage info on the phone settings, i got 3 sections: internal storage, phone storage and sd card, for starters in the phone and internal sections they read 8 and 7 gb free and 16 gb total, the sd card section works normal, as far as i understand there should be only the phone storage section.
and to make things worse, when i connect the phone for usb storage, the internal memory indicates a 1.72gb partition instead of the 8gb or so that the phone is supposed to have, file managers as the ES3 read that same amount of free space.
i believe that my internal storage is damaged, is there a way to fix it or at least have the phone read those 1.72gb correctly on the settings without opening it, spend $100USD+ on repairs, or try to sell it?, i already spent $475USD ($6000 pesos) and i don't want them to go to waste for this.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Valid option if I get the 16GB?

So, considering that 6.0 can format the sdcard to appear as internal memory, is there any good reason for going with 32GB or more? I would like to save the money and just get the 16GB and format the card so it appears internal.
Other than being slightly slower than internal memory, would this be a valid route going 16+card as opposed to 32+card?
I have a OnePlus One right now with the 64 and usually have about 20GB left so 32 is the base I need but I figure I might be able to get away with 16 if the card appears as all internal anyway.
Thoughts?
Yes, I went with a 16GB model also for the same reason. I installed a 64gb Sandisk extreme SD card that transfers up to 90mb/s. Nandroid backups went from 30 minutes on my old SD card (some cheap crap) to less than one minute. With a proper card you'll have no issues running apps off the SD.
The internal memory isn't much faster.
I've been considering using the adoptive storage, but I went ahead and bought the 32gb. Call me old fashioned, but I like having an SD card that is considered separate from the main storage for one big reason: If I ever have to do a wipe of the phone, I know that my photos, TWRP backups, and so on, are all safe as long as they are on the SD card. I don't know if we know what'll happen if you use the adoptive storage and you have to wipe the phone. Will it keep what is on the SD card part? Will it wipe it as well? My understanding is that it'll wipe it.
So I may just keep on doing what I'm doing... change the camera settings to use the SD card for pictures and videos, make the SD card the default place to save downloads, and only use the internal storage for app installs.
I use my SD card to store all of my media and reserve internal storage purely for apps. I can manage with 16gb since I don't have a lot of big apps. Adoptive storage is a nice feature but I don't think I'll be using it, since I like taking my microsd out and popping it in my laptop to manage my music, photos and movies.
Do we know FOR SURE that there will be no way to partition the external SD so that part of it is used for the OS (non-readable outside the phone) and part for external storage?

I haven't read anything that would suggest so. Everything I've read indicates that it formats the entire card to be used as internal storage. The tradeoff, it seems, for allowing adoptive storage is to make it very difficult for your to remove the card and use it in another machine.
Well thanks guys. Still up in the air which phone I'll ultimately get and if it's the Moto, what size but this does clarify things.

If you format the card as adoptive storage you can't just pop out the card and read it from a computer. The computer won't be able to read it.

Internal storage errors - ideas??

All,
I'm getting errors with my Moto, I have a 16g (I know, I know). It shows 12.29 used of 16g. I have a 32g card I've tried as internal storage and external storage. When I try and use the camera, I get an error about there not being enough storage. When I try and run S Health, I get the same error. What am I missing? There's plenty of room, especially when I use the SD as internal, but there should be plenty of room without doing that, right?
I also just got a message, "Your device storage is temporarily unavailable". Whaaaaaaaa?
Thanks
I would like to know some answers to this as well.
Humm sounds like internal memory is failing to me... try a different sd card though it might have some issue with it...
I agree with trying another SD card first. Your current card may not be playing well with the phone. If that doesn't work, warranty the phone.
I have a 16GB too. Not a big deal. Since I don't game on my phone except for a few casual ones, the size is more than sufficient.
Sent from my awesome phone!
