November OTA - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Haven't seen it mentioned yet but the new OTA is available. It comes with new color options for the screen (boosted, natural and saturated) and has the 'auto-dim' nav bar. Haven't noticed anything else new so far.

Tried to update nothing yet.

As of right now, no updates are available online for the Pixel 2 XL (all other google devices seem to have gotten an update)

Err, 8.0 or 8.1? Just checked for 8.1 and no go.

Can someone then post a screenshot of the "About Phone" screen then?

Someone posted one in the comments of the Android Police article (I'd link to it or the image, but I'm too new here).

I'm always last in line for updates. Google doesn't like me.

Can someone capture the ota when they receive it?

Update is out there. They did a ton of improvements to BT, screen and did add Natural, Boosted or Saturation mode for colors. Will post the pics firs then tell you which is which as I don't know which order they will upload. Not that it really matters as it will all likely look the same on your PC and your phone if you haven't gotten the update LMAO. Sorry!
EDIT: Uploaded natural >> boosted >> saturated. Will be impossible to tell on a PC monitor or phone that has yet to be updated, again apologies., thought I was being helpful! Haha

I received the update still 8.0 but security patch level is nov 5

I will also point out that this is correct, it's a security patch update for November, not the 8.1 update. We may not see that before the end of 2017.

Why can't someone make themselves useful and share the ota zip? Lol

I suspect that rmewpm may have been referring to the 11-06 patch level, which the main security bulletin says it what fixes the KRACK Wi-Fi vulnerability. The bulletin isn't exactly clear on whether this is fixed on the Pixel 2/2XL or not. The opening paragraph of the Nexus/Pixel bulletin says:
For Google devices, security patch levels of 2017-11-05 or later address all issues in this bulletin and all issues in the November 2017 Android Security Bulletin.

Later, in the questions and answers section, it says:
1. How do I determine if my device is updated to address these issues?
Security patch levels of 2017-11-05 or later address all issues associated with the 2017-11-05 security patch level and all previous patch levels.

Why Google had to have 3 patch levels instead of the already-strange 2 patch levels this month is anyone's guess. I'm not too impressed that they shipped the Pixel 2's with only the September patch. If they manage to ship the November update with some missing fixes for KRACK, I won't be surprised.

It's only for the Pixel 2 today.
Nothing for the P 2 XL yet on the Google factory images site.

I got my OTA, i can confirm the dimming navbar and color profiles.

Eagerly awaiting the ota. Spamming the update button

Any issues with Substratum?
I have the OTA, but holding off on updating until I know for sure if it is ok.

I have a Pixel 2 XL, I have the security patch update already installed on my phone. I am not referring to 8.1, if that is what you are referring to. See attached screenshot of my About Phone page confirming the security patch Nov 5.

Thanks! I was wondering when this was going to be released, especially when I saw that Google just released the November update for Nexus devices. Like you said, better late than never...

New update. I downloaded last night. It adds something called Fullscreen? Any one else got any news on what changed? Says security patch level is October 1, 2016. Was about 250MB
Trying to figure that out to. Cant find any Changlog for this
Turned on the advanced messaging again for me. I turned it off since it wasn't working properly. Maybe it's fixed now.

You know what? I'm not sure now. I could've sworn I read an article saying there was, now the only reference I find is for T-Mobile S7's getting a performance update.
I was on rooted stock PI2 and accidentally said OK to the OTA and it sent my phone into bootloop. Had to start from scratch.
Is the current root stable enough to use as a daily driver?

I appreciate the attempt. What terms did you give google and / or the xda search? I still get nothing from my searches.

What's the security patch level on this build? If possible, do share a screenshot. Also, what was the update size?
The update size was rough 50. Something MB said something about security patch and performance I should have ss it security patch march 1 2017 according to what my system says software version G935PVPS4BQC1
OP is talking about a newer build G935PVPU4BQC1. While the build you mentioned is known, it brought along the March security patch.

Just received Google March Security Patch for my Mate 9

Just received Google March Security Patch for my Mate 9. Live in SF. Impressive that update came so fast. Hopefully, Hauwaei realizes how important it is to continue to fix bugs, add security.
Phone is impressive, especially battery power. Never had a phone, being power user, that goes all day and still 50% at night. Beautiful screen, fast, storage.
Got the update about a week ago, nice to see updates still coming. Located in Canada.
Got it on the 12th. Hope the updates continue.
I had the update waiting for a few days, but due to having TWRP, I couldn't install it. Flashed the stock recovery yesterday and updated. The April update is already on FF so hopefully Huawei will continue to push out updates in a timely fashion

Hope you're right. Continuous updates would give US customers confidence in brand & counter negative publicity by right wingers, who are only concerned with protecting US commerce, not security.
Nice to know April is in FF, and as you said hopefully be pushed out OTA to us.

yeah, that is the OTA update they are pushing out, but the next update is already on the TeamMT website. It is listed as 8.0.0.367

If the April patch (USA version) works like the March version, I'm guessing early May to be approved.
FF shows it, but not available, EMUI update shows no updates, so I'd guess it will be a few more weeks
for most people unless you want to jack with the phone a bit.
Buggy
I updated my Mate 9 to the March Security Update a few weeks ago, and ever since then, a few apps have been crashing on startup. Google keep, Gmail, etc. It doesn't say anything after when crashing. And it's annoying as hell.
Got April tonight

according to my knowledge this update not only the security patch update. there are some fixes with update, thats why number goes 47.1.A.12.xxx to 47.1.A.16.20 normally if there is major update they change it as 47.2.X.X.XXX or 47.3.X.X.XX like that. but if there is a normal minor updates they change it with this time update. only with the security patch they change only the final numbers.
i think there may be some fixes.
Can anyone tell me if the "Downloading..." in the playstore has fixed (takes a long time to ACTUALLY download)
And also if 3D games (Asphalt 9 etc.) don't have graphical glitches

Are you with T-Mobile? They have their own update process even for Google phones, so OTAs are delayed. If I hadn't manually installed September's security update, I'd still be on August myself. Frustrating.

Well, that eliminates the T-Mobile factor. A quick Google search for Vodafone issues with Pixel 2 OTA times only returns a few results. Not sure what would explain the delay - perhaps a staged rollout?
Sorry for the noob question but only ever done an OTA update before OTA. The file is 1.1gb which I am sure is significantly larger than a usual monthly update, is this correct please? Download it in Chrome then update it?

This also solved it for me!
I'm still stuck on the August patch level here. I'm in the UK on the Three network and I've never been enrolled in the beta programme.
I flashed the Android P factory image via Deuce's script in August (including a userdata wipe), and then I rooted with Magisk.
My phone has been saying "Your system is up to date" ever since. I didn't receive any notification for the September update, nor do I have one for the October update.
I know I could just sideload the updates but I was hoping I'd eventually get the OTA notification so that I could test Magisk's ability to preserve root after an OTA. It doesn't look like I'll ever get the chance...
Both my wife and I have a Pixel 2 and she received the October Update back on Oct 3rd. As of this morning I still hadn't received it.. Saw your comment, realized I was still opted in (my wife doesn't install any betas) so I opted out and almost immediately afterwards got the update
Thanks !!

Yup. It seems stupid that they leave people opted-in after the programme ends (since it doesn't roll over to the next beta anyway) and that affects the distribution of OTAs. But this is Google.
BTW after not having a single crash in a year my phone has restarted twice since this update. Have others had that experience?
