LineageOS for microG - Android Software Development

Android experience relies heavily on Google's Play Services. The microG project creates an alternative to installing Gapps, which install and execute closed-source blobs on our phones. MicroG however requires a patch called "signature spoofing", which allows microG's apps to spoof themselves as Google Apps. LineageOS currently does not include the patch due to different opinions among the developers. (further information can be found here)
This makes microG installation difficult on LineageOS and other ROMs. Our ROM is a fork of LineageOS with just the necessary changes to have microG built-in. We ship weekly builds for all the LineageOS supported devices..

Would like to have build for Nexus 9 aka flounder
Awesome start! Good luck with that! Cheers! :fingers-crossed:

Is this the thread mentioned in the FAQ where one can request builds for other devices supported by LineageOS?
If so, I'd love to see a build for the LG G5 (aka h850), which is currently the only high-end device by a known manufacturer with a removable battery and high repairability (8/10 from Ifixit).
It's fully supported by LineageOS (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/h850) and I'd be willing to report any possible problems and help debug it if necessary.
Thanks in advance and awesome project!

Can you please add support for LG G4 (H815) as well?

The LineageOS for microG OTA infrastructure is based on https://github.com/julianxhokaxhiu/LineageOTA?
I'm mounting my own infrastructure and I want to know how to build it. Thanks.

@Simon94 does it supports substratum ? and thanks for the modded lineage .

Microg.me is a really wonderful project , I have been using it for 3 days, but there are some things that annoy me. In particular, is it really necessary to implement it in every single build ?? I use an application with the same signature, so at each ota it is replaced by the fakestore and that's annoying . Also one ota per day is pretty excessive I think, especially for daily usage. Why not release an update at the same time as the official lineage ?
Please excuse me if the answers to my questions are obvious, I'm a bit new on microg.

Would it be possible to built a pac which could be used for an unofficial LOS-Release to install it e.g. via twrp? I would to love to test the microg-package onto my satsuki (E6833) Sony Xperia Z5 Premium Dual

Same feature-set as LineageOS. If LOS supports substratum, we are supporting this aswell.

Unfortunately we wont remove FakeStore since our goal is to provide a Google free ROM with a fully working ecosystem which requires having FakeStore installed. Sorry for that. What you could do is to write a script for OTA survival / - or removal and put it in the /system/addon.d directory. But we're not going to support this in any way.
Otherwise we can invite you to not use Play Store, but a replacement like Yalp Store.
We like to build as often as we can. Its up to you and your free choice. If you dont want to update on a daily basis, just dont do it
Best, Simon

There are several methods to get microg. Maybe you should start reading there https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/index-list-custom-roms-offering-t3557047
My preferred method have been nanomod patcher and shadow53's zip.

I can't find my device in the download section!! Yu yunique (jalebi). As the site says that all the devices with official linegae os support will get this rom?? Pls provide for my device jalebi. Thanks in advance.

Thank you!! Waiting for it

Hey there! I have an old first-gen Moto X as my main android device (ghost) and I'd love to take advantage of your awesome project! I tried to get the docker image up and running myself, but I keep getting random DNS failures in docker, which seem to get silently passed, which results in the build claiming to be successful, yet no builds show up in my "zips" folder when it completes. Only thing that I think needs changed from the default is the lineageOS branch (cm-13.0). Would it be too much trouble to add 'ghost' to your list of builds?
Thank you,
neutral

Can you add support for taoshan (Sony Xperia L)?
Has LOS support.
Thanks!

Discussion : Android 8.1 Oreo Related Development

It's hard to pin down the Android codename in advance thanks to Google's notorious trolling. Remember Key Lime Pie and Milkshake? This time, everyone's first guess turned out to be the right one. Google has named Android 8.0 "Oreo" after the cookies produced by Nabisco.
Most Android names are generic treats like Marshmallow and Nougat. However, this is not the first time Google has worked with a company to use a name brand. KitKat was a surprise announcement in 2013. The agreement between Google and Nestle/Hershey includes some cool limited edition KitKat candy bars, too. It is unclear if there will be similar Android-themed Oreo packaging, but Google must have some manner of agreement allowing it to use the Oreo trademark. The statue does at least look a bit more daring than other recent bugdroid mascots.
There's not much new to report on the features in Oreo—we've been playing with the developer preview for months, after all. You can expect picture-in-picture support for apps, autofill apps, faster boot times, and those god-awful new emoji. Oreo is being rolled out to AOSP today, and updates for the Pixels and recent Nexus devices are in final testing now. You can expect the OTA soon on those devices.
Google has just announced that Android 8.0 Oreo will be uploaded to the Android open Source Project today, and that updates to the newest version of the platform are currently being tested by carriers for the Google Pixel, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P. Google says these updates will begin rolling out in phases "soon," along with updates for the Pixel C and Nexus Player.
Google has not clarified when factory images or OTA files will be available for devices at this time.
As a reminder, Android Oreo brings a number of new features to the table, including notification dots, enhanced speed, a brand-new set of emoji , more aggressive battery life management, and [finally] OS-level autofill.

Android 8.1 is the next version of the OS, Google app reveals..
Android 8.0 Oreo has only been out for a couple of weeks at this point, and hasn't actually made it to every single supported Nexus and Pixel device out there yet. Not to mention how long it's going to take for it to land on any other phone or tablet.
Even so, maybe you'd like to know what the next version of the OS will be? It's Android 8.1, by the way. This has been revealed by a teardown of the latest iteration of the beta Google app. The SDK used internally by the company to build said app outright says so.
As for the name, it makes most sense for Google to keep using Oreo - it would be a shame to switch from such a well recognized brand so soon, and it's also how it did things last year with 7.0 and 7.1 both being Nougat. If you're wondering when 8.1 will hit, remember that in 2016 Android 7.1 debuted with the Pixels only a couple of months or so after 7.0 updates started going out. So we assume that this year the second-gen Pixels will be the first devices to launch running Android 8.1, when they land in October.

Google announces Android 8.1 developer preview, final release planned for December
Google launched the new Pixel phones with Android 8.0, which is what last year's Pixel's have been running since the update. A new version of Oreo is on the way, though, and you can try it right now. Google has launched a developer preview for Android 8.1. As usual, it's supported on recent Google devices and can be installed in two ways.
The system images are available for download now, but that requires an unlocked bootloader. The beta program with automatic OTA updates will be available as well. You can sign up now, but it looks like the switch hasn't been thrown to push out the OTAs just yet. If you want to get on the dev preview, it's compatible with the following devices. The OTA files are available for sideloading, though.
Nexus 5X
Nexus 6P
Pixel C
Pixel
Pixel XL
Pixel 2
Pixel 2 XL
The Android 8.1 preview runs from today until the OS is released, which Google expects to happen in December. Installing the preview should not affect your data, but you never know. Running a developer preview does come with some risk, so make sure you've got your data backed up. Leaving the beta program will result in a device reset as well.
Google has a developer-oriented changelog up. Here's what you can expect in the new version.
Neural networks API: The Neural Networks API (NNAPI) provides apps with hardware acceleration for on-device machine learning operations. The API supports on- device model creation, compilation, and execution.
Notifications: Apps can now only make a notification alert sound once per second. Alert sounds that exceed this rate aren't queued and are lost. This change doesn't affect other aspects of notification behavior and notification messages still post as expected.
Improved targeting for low-RAM devices
Autofill framework updates: custom descriptions that the Android System shows in the autofill save UI, specify a Validator object that your app can use to decide if the Android System should show the autofill save UI, and more.
EditText updates
Programmatic Safe Browsing actions: Devs can control whether an app reports known threats to Safe Browsing, and have the app automatically perform a particular action—such as going back to safety—each time it encounters a URL that Safe Browsing classifies as a known threat.
Video thumbnail extractor: The MediaMetadataRetriever class has a new method, getScaledFrameAtTime(), that finds a frame near a given time position and returns a bitmap with the same aspect ratio as the source frame, but scaled to fit into a rectangle of given width and height.
Shared memory API: Android 8.1 (API level 27) introduces a new SharedMemory class. This class allows you to create, map, and manage anonymous shared memory that can be used by multiple processes or apps.
WallpaperColors API: Adds support for managing wallpaper colors. This feature lets you create a WallpaperColors object from a bitmap, a drawable, or by using the first three most visually representative colors. You can also retrieve details of the first three noticeable colors of a wallpaper.
Fingerprint updates

That's pretty cool. My guess is that the first Oreo ROM for our osprey is going to be Lineage OS 15.0.
This time arround, Lineage should be the first one, since there is no fiasco like Nougat's two major releases at once (7.0 and 7.1.1). Remember how people used to get CyanogenMod 14.0 internal sources and put them into Nougat 7.0 ROMs for the osprey? Back then I used to love BeanStalk because it was pretty much the most stable Nougat ROM for my osprey. There was a bug with video recording but I was ready to trade new features for video recording.

I've tried aospa but I don't really like it. It's not that stable for me on osprey, the Qualcomm camera doesn't work and I needed another camera app, PACKAGE INSTALLER WAS MISSING!!! I WASN'T ABLE TO INSTALL APKs, even through recovery. I needed to re-install it to make package installer work. Also, it's not that customizable. Not that Default Lineage is but after installing substratum, everything is perfect.
Sticking with LOS 14.1 + Open Gapps + Kali Nethunter until Lineage 15 gets released.

I launched so many apps with package installer...that's not roms fault...for example I installed nova Google companion from apkmirror and few other apps..not a single problem...Qualcomm camera got better in 7.2.3...though Moto z camera is always better...it has not much customisation and that is it's uniqueness...I always feel I am using a stock Moto so much improved ROM...I just love the aospa...

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 7.1.2 (Nougat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please check out the Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Can you provide a little help for this circumstance... i guess there are many user with the same issue.
Thank you!

It was already answered a couple of times in the official thread ( where you also asked ), so please read the posts before yours there or at least search before asking, which is expected in the forum.
You can migrate from an official build to an unofficial, and vice versa, simply using the appropriate script ( before flashing the rom ) found here :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70452245&postcount=2
Edit : Just make a backup in TWRP before proceeding, to be safe, and you can always restore that if you have any issues.

Moto Mods are not supported

1. Make sure you have a nougat bootloader and modem else TWRP denies the installation by throwing a message about the wrong bootloader. You can find a guide here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74069195&postcount=91
2. Requires Unlocked Bootloader & a custom recovery
3. Place ROM & Gapps (if applicable) in your virtual SD
4. Reboot in Bootloader Mode
5. Go to "Recovery" (Vol +/Vol -) and confirm (power)
6. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
7. Wipe Dalvik cache
8. Install the ROM zip
9. Install su for root. You can get the required file from here https://mirrorbits.lineageos.org/su/addonsu-14.1-arm-signed.zip
10. Install the Gapps zip (if applicable)
11. Reboot
Note
I have not built any of these ROMs myself, I'm simply just listing them for convenience sake. All credits go their rightful creators and to @Alberto97 for laying the groundwork for Moto Z Play development.

Plenty of other people have opened threads where developers have later posted builds or applications, and those threads are naturally in development sections. I guess a listing only is a grey area and they're being strict but if developers eventually use this thread to post builds it'd be time to ask mods about moving it to development then.

I'm sorry, but I managed to destroy my build tree due to an error
As I had no backup I've decided to move on and try AOSP 8. I hate to disappoint some of you but I can't provide builds anymore for the Z Play. So I'd suggest to move on to another of the provided builds. Thanks.

Shrep's build was done a week later, so a week's worth of Lineage commits and / or fixes over the older build.

I'm having a hard time flashing these Lineage OS ROMs. I'm running stock 7.1.1 prior to flashing 14.1, but I keep getting error 7. It says I have 0xC113 but I need 0xC105/106/107/112.
I've tried flashing just the bootloader from the latest 7.1.1 but I'm still stuck and it's driving me nuts.
What am I doing wrong?
Here's another unofficial build, but camera is now broken.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/development/rom-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-t3727440
Flashqueen's build remains the best fully functional one with at least up to most of December's patches ( even if it declares a November patch ) so at this point I'd still recommend it over anything else, other than getting a different, better supported device...
Edit : Lineage with MicroG support last put out a build December 17th, but those builds seem to be broken. I guess without a maintainer fixing things for the device, there's not much point in building as-is, see camera in the linked build above, for instance.

Another good alternative to the above mentioned ROMs would be Mokee ROM. They actually support the device officially and it keeps getting updates on a daily basis. Although it is not actually Lineage it is in fact really close. It even comes with all of the Lineage features, wallpapers and apps by default. Another cool feature is that it comes with Xposed by default :victory:

* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in it
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*
*/
What is Project Treble
Project Treble basically partitions your device into two separate partitions, a system and a vendor: system contains your generic system image, while vendor partition has your device specific files required for booting and running your phone. This way we can easily change the system image and be able to run our device on different system images with the same kernel and vendor partition.
About
Weijianism did not build any verdor image of new version because he does not own this device. Although I am not familiar with android source and android build, I am very happy to learn it so that we natrium owners can use project treble.
So I message to Weijianism to know how to do it and have learnt it for a few weeks. Now I am trying to build vendors. Cause I still know a few about it, It is really very hard for me to solve problems in myself. So if you have any advice, please tell me or push you code in github. THANK YOU!

Yes, I used code and drivers from los totally.
And I really don't know what happened on your device cause you didn't tell me any useful information (such as what gsi and which version). I only find this kind of problem when using gsi of Android P Developer Preview.

Hope for me get a new natrium and I'll do for capricorn and natrium too.
Ofc, as justin did for natrium already, I'm gonna just ship it on my custom ROMs projects, not separated things like capricorn should get it too.
@justin_hill
This is interesting, thanks for taking this up!
I'd like to mention that my last RR build has more recent vendor files than @Weijianism's treble builds.
I'm not sure why bluetooth only works with an RR GSI... That's weird. We need logs, of course.
I've never ported Project Treble to a device before, but I'm happy to help.
With the camera - I think this old branch of the kernel may work. I have no idea why, though.
P.S. I'm hacker1024 on GitHub.

Yeah, your code have inspired me a lot when I saw your repositories.
Maybe I fixed the bluetooth problem when I add back the libbtnv.so to /vendor/lib/ since it was deleted in this commit.
For the camera problem, I don't know how vendor module relates to kernel. But I will try it afterwards.
Actually I almost know nothing about lineage source code, system build skills and things like this. If you can help, it will be grateful!

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9.0 (Pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Code:
/*
* Your warranty is now void. Knox 0x1.
*
* We are not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* lost data due to failed backups, etc, etc.
* flash at your own risk
*/
How to flash this ROM:
Download the zip file. (Make sure to download the file for your specific device)
Make sure this zip file is saved to your device (I prefer transferring to sd card to allow for full wipe of data on phone).
If you want Google Play functionality, download OpenGApps (link below). (optional)
Reboot into TWRP (latest version recommended)
Make a backup (optional).
Wipe System, Data, Cache, and Dalvik Cache partitions with Advanced Wipe. (I like wiping internal data too, do NOT wipe SD Card!)
Flash the ROM you just downloaded.
Flash OpenGApps for Android 9.0 if you want Google services (optional) (I prefer nano or pico).
If you want root, flash Magisk.
Reboot and proceed normally with installation.

Any meaningful reason why you're posting inofficial builds?
AFAIK you're not affiliated with us in any way. And you haven't done any work for shamu. So users reporting bugs to you is just a waste of their time, as you're not going to fix them.
You're just picking some very low hanging fruits.
There's really no need for them especially because we're shipping soon.
Also proper credits would have been nice.
I have a good friend with a shamu phone, he wanted to upgrade his phone so I helped him out. As of yet, I haven't seen any Lineage OS 16.0 ROMs so I spent all yesterday attempting to build one.
It finally completed with no errors, and that seems like a meaningful enough reason to post an unofficial build to me.
I don't own a shamu, and sorry if I left out credits where credit is due for people bringing shamu specific code up to pie, feel free to message me names and I'll include them in the credit section.

The reason why there are no unoffical builds is that we don't really want to have any for devices which are going to be supported officially.
I know that you had good intentions, but posting inofficial builds doesn't make it easier for us devs.

Alright, that makes sense. I wasn't aware shamu was going to be included in the devices receiving official Lineage 16.0 ROMs. I'll go ahead and remove the download link, and refer my friend to your signature to download ROMs for his phone.
Like I mentioned, I don't have a shamu, I'm on a Note 3 (hltetmo) and have been building my own LineageOS 16.0 (even though members of the official Lineage team such as Haggertk are building unofficial ROMs for my Note 3 too).
You're correct that my building hasn't included any actual fixing of bugs and getting those fixes submitted into official builds, but you have to start somewhere, right?

Yes I know that haggert and others are distributing unofficial builds. What I meant is we are not to eager of unofficial builds of people not affiliated with us in any way.
It's always getting messy if 2-3 people post unofficial builds and users think they're using the real thing.
I'm always happy if someone wants to help, but without a test device it's going to be close to impossible for you to test anything properly.

I'd like to increase the privacy of my phone. I'm looking for a compatible open source ROM for the Xiaomi Mi 9T with the latest stock android firmware without any bloatware from google or xiaomi. Better if it's a popular ROM so I can find support more easily.

Yes that's true but just because a certain developer doesn't want to update to the next Android version, it doesn't mean it's over with LineageOS for davinci.

The nice thing about MicroG is the fact that more apps still work. Yes, many other roms offer signature spoofing which is a prerequisite for microG but it never worked as well for me as the in-house LineageOS rom build from microG itself.
I've installed lineage-17.1-20220105-nightly-davinci-signed.zip. Thanks for the suggestions. Just to be sure, since I'm going to follow the 100% FOSS Smartphone Hardening non-root 4.0 guide now, is all the software in Lineage OS 17.1 FOSS (free and open source software)?

Thing is that the ROM has to become official (i.e. published on the LOS site) before the microG guys start building it. Many developers hesitate to make their version official, because it comes with responsibilities (in maintenance especially).
That said, there is a Magisk module available that adds microG to custom ROMs that seems to work well with LOS.
I've taken a look at rooting the phone to make adaway more energy efficient but since the device has no ramdisk I would have to boot to recovery every time I want to have root enabled. So I'm guessing most people just don't use this phone with root since it would be too inconvenient. And I'd like to know why Lineage OS doesn't offer a simple way to enable root.

I don't use LOS but I guess it uses the stock Xiaomi boot.img
If so, then it is absolutely not needed to install Magisk to recovery - as stated elswhere, patch the boot.img and then you boot directly to Magisk with no problem (don't worry that Magisk says Ramsisk No, patching boot.umg works with no problem)
Regarding to built-in Magisk to custom ROMs (old school) - that is discoursged by TJW Magisk documentation. One of the reason is troubles if user wants to update Magisk
(All assuming Magisk for root)

How did you install MicroG? Just want to know if the process is still difficult on a normal LOS.

I just used the prebuilt version from here. New builds are made approx. every 2 weeks, and install OTA.
