Wow. That is is awesome to see on sprint. I've pushed 65mbps but that was only once. Normal is around 15 mbps max really in the DFW area unless under the tower.

After todays update.

Lucky you...

Nice. 100mbps is the fastest I've gotten

Remember, Sprint uses a "dynamic throttling" algorithm. You get throttled if you've used the most data of the users connected to a tower if it's necessary to allow someone else access. The throttling goes away when it's no longer needed. But regardless of that, the sheer number of users on the infrastructure in an area affects speeds too. There are fewer people in Corpus than in Houston or Austin. Live in an area for a year or two, especially one that's expanding, and you'll notice the speeds gradually drop. Pics 1 & 2 are LTE, pic 3 is my old Wi-Fi with AT&T, and pic 4 is my Wi-Fi with Google Fiber.

Ouch, I feel bad for you dude. That's like getting thrown back into the stone age internet-wise...
P.S. LOVE the commercial linked in your sig.

For my area, that's awesome...except the latency...especially the upload...my peak time download is 20...can't wait for Advanced LTE to move in...

Must be nice, maybe before I die.
don't update this app!!

Hi all, nice speeds in TX. I don't get them speeds in NEW YORK CITY around the 5 BOROUGHS, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan. It's hard to watch my Game of thrones, Trevor Noah on comedy Central, Bill Maher and John Oliver. The speeds are terrible out here, mostly under 10 mbps in a lot of area and sometimes might get a 30 mbps but for a quick second driving. I have an Note 8, S8 plus and IPad pro 10.5. I August Sprint start pushing update to Galaxy S8 to allow VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling, I had 6 lines but couldn't bother with slow speed and no VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling so I switched back to T-MOBILE. They service start getting crapy too in the area's I mostly be, I used to get 115 mbps download speeds, now I'm getting 0.72 mbps download speeds.

I always had 2 different carriers for that reason, some area's good on one, bad on the other here and there. One area on T-Mobile, I was getting 230 mbps download speeds and that area still have those high speeds. I switched all my service to Verizon now, that area with T-MOBILE was 115 now to 0.72 mbps, on Verizon it's 72 mbps on my iPad pro and iPhone 8 plus, on the Note 8 it's 90 mbps download speeds. 200 feet away in this area of the 72 mbps is 147 mbps on the iPad pro and iPhone 8, on the Note 8 is 212 mbps download speeds. It's a big difference compare to Sprint and T-MOBILE. I used no WI-FI at all only the data plan. My iPad pro, used over 30GB and it's only 14 days in my cycle, note 8 24GB usage.

I only had Verizon for month an half, with all the lines on the account, data usage over 150GB a month. I read a article few months ago about Verizon kicking it's customers off its network who used excessive amount of data, they didn't specified how much data was used but I'll see over time on my account.

tmobile 3g speeds

this is my first week using tmobile in the US with the nexus one.
I am not able to get download speeds more than 800kbps. it does not matter how good the reception is.
I have tried in various places in north CA and in cleveland OH.
I think that such speeds are pretty bad for 3g. with at&t I used to 2-3mbps at times.
my friend with the verizon droid is seeing 1.5mbps-2.5mbps download speed .
what are other users on tmobile are seeing?
seems like tmobile is rate limiting the speeds or their network is just really bad.
How are u measuring the speed? I use the speed test app and it used to have a server close by in San Jose (65 mi) now I have to use a server in new Mexico and I'm in CA so that makes it seem slower too
There are two apps in the market i test with: speedtest.net and extreme speed test.
I also checked with the laptop tethered to the phone. same pathetic speeds. i can hardly call it 3g comparing to the competitors.
Is it the phone or is it tmobiles network?

i just got 2MB/s up and 400 kb/s down
WOW thats whats im talking about best ive ever seen
still waiting for those 6mb/s up and 1mb/s down (a.k.a. my cable high speed enternet at home)
I have never seen verizon that fast in my area, generally 500 kbits to 1mbits but I would say that you are getting the norm for tmo as mine have never reached 1 mbit but can go past 10 mbit on wifi.
BGR did a test a while back although not scientific agrees with the tests I have done in my area.
BGR Carrier Wars
Average Download Speed
1. Sprint: 1361kbs
2. AT&T: 933kbps
3. T-Mobile: 786kbps
4. Verizon: 701kbps
Average Upload Speed
1. Verizon: 322kbps
2. Sprint: 267kbps
3. AT&T: 180kbps
4. T-Mobile: 177kbps
Try this speed test....
I usually see 1000 - 1200 kbps but quite often see 1700 - 2000 kbps using the speedtest.net app in the android market. Something to remember, your 3G connection is initially UMTS and will switch to HSDPA on demand and when available. You may notice that your first test will show a ping of ~300ms and speeds of 500 - 700 kbps (UMTS), but if you hit "test again" immediately after the first test completes you should see a ping of about ~175ms and approximately double the speed (HSDPA). I've noticed that the default server (closest server according to the speedtest.net app) is usually slow and doesn't give me proper results. I've had very good luck using the Chicago server. Try using the Chicago server and run back-to-back tests, let us know if your results change.
I would agree T-Mobile's 3G is crap. Using a Rogers G1 on AT&T using speedtest.net app, I was seeing over 2Mbit down and over 800kbit up consistently.
T-Mobile's so called "7.2 Mbit upgrade" is a joke. Kind of like their coverage maps. I want to like them, but at least in my area, AT&T obliterates them. It's too big of a different for me. If an AT&T 3G compatible nexus one is released, I will have to get one. I could probably live with the slower speeds if the coverage wasn't so spotty.
Your move T-Immobile.

As a former T-Mo Wireless Engineer Intern, I can tell you that there is only a very very small roll out on 7.2 right now. They are testing the network before they enable more circuits. The original plan when I worked there was for a gradual 2 city per month rollout. Then slowly build the network to cope with added traffic. Its suppose to be a gradual process that will also involve using old equipment and expanding current 3g service. The high speed roll out was priority one, then is service expansion. Also contracts were involved last I saw that would expand coverage 2-fold, but negotiations for tower rights were falling through, so I don't know where thats going.

Wow, talk about an honest answer. If I could just get coverage at my house, I could support team Magenta

There is an issue with 3g on the nexus that has been commented on a number of times, and that is the flapping of UMTS and HSDPA. (not to be confused with those flapping between 2g and 3g). With my G1 I was able to get speeds as high as 3Mbit, but I too have only seen 800Kbit max on my nexus and I believe its due to this constant flapping of 3g technologies.
Today is my first day on tmobile with the N1, I've been running on Edge ATT.
I was worried about switching over because my gf has had tmobile and doesn't have great service at our house.
I was afraid mine would be worse with the 3g issues the N1 has been having but it appears to be almost identical to hers.
in my living room we get 1-2 bars 3g and I see test speeds of 50-300 down and 950-1250 up.
I go to my office right above the living room and get 3 bars and 700-900 down speeds with 700-900 up speeds.
No stoked about it but I havnt had any signal swapping issues so I'm going to use it for GPS to test out now and see how it does. GPS and mapping even on edge with ATT was super fast so I have high hopes.

So are you saying that if you pop in the SIM card from the N1 to the G1 in the same place you get 3Mbps vs. 800Kbps on the N1?

Correct, I get full signal at my work (-63dBm 25asu). The G1 didn't skip around and stuck firmly to UMTS, and I was getting much better rates with it. My N1 however maxes out at no more than 800.
@jmcdonald what are you agreeing with LOL were talking about decent speeds then you say you agree with the low speeds??? LOL
Anyway I don't have 3g flopping problems neither did I on my g1
I am seeing speeds in most cases upward of 2.2 mbps... and am even averaging over 1mbps in upload speeds which is pretty good when I have full 3g reception in the Northern NJ area.
I get anywhere from 2.0 - 3.5Mbps down on average, and I have seen up to 4.5Mbps down on occasion. Up is always around 1 - 1.3Mbps.
However, I'm in Philadelphia, and we have HSPA+
Wow, I don't know how you guys are getting DL speeds upwards of 1.5mbps! Here in San Diego, the most I've seen anyone on ATT get is around 1.2mbps, and 1.1 on Sprint. Tmo is usually anywhere from 700-1mbps with some spikes over that now and then.
My G1 and N1 get the same speed range.
I'm in Maryland, just outside of D.C. I also just switched from AT&T to T-Mobile (yesterday actually). I'm also getting DL speeds of like 700-800 kbps. Hope it will someday be a little faster than that.
download - 137kbps
upload - 217kbps
From all the repots in this post it seems that tmob is just slower in some parts of the country and faster in others.
I hope they are planning on catching as 700-800kbps is a joke.

Please Post Your Data Download Speeds

Was wondering what data speeds other people were getting. Ever since I started with T-Mobile my 3G speed In Wichita, KS sucks! I don't get better than 500- 600k download. Reps at the TM store keep telling me "they're upgrading the network, it should be better by such & such a date", the TM Cust Service Rep said I should be getting much better speeds than that. I can't get a straight answer from anyone what the rates for this area are. Would like same ammo to argue with T-Mobile to lower my monthly data charge.
Could you please post your speeds and what part of the country your in? Thanks!
Wichita, KS - I used to work for a company there called Pixius!
Mendota Heights, MN using Ookla Speedtest from market shows:
Ping 155ms - 2569 kbps Download - 405 kbps Upload
Boise, ID
Speedtest.net... I ran 3 times in a row with phone showing 3G and only ran 216kbps download, 489 upload. normally I get more than that but surely not today. I do know that depending on congestion T-Mobile can "throttle" the network slightly to avoid some bigger issues from happening on their network and help make it stable. T-Mobile is supposed to be reaching 25 cities total by end of June with the HSPA+ network with estimated speeds of 21Mbps... Not sure if your town is on the list. I know mine's not.
crappy speeds compared to what I hear other people have.
The Minneapolis metro area must have great TMO 3G coverage because I rarely go under 2Mbps around here! I have Sprint for work and their speeds are much slower!
1388kbps down/1358 kbps up. I am using a cincinnati regional carrier and not t-mobile however.
In Independence, Missouri and using speedtest.net app I got 1727 kbps download and 384 kbps upload.

Within our Center we have our own personal 3G cells that have yet to be updated to HSPA+ on. On Sundays with low amounts of employees in the building I'll see approximately 1-2 mb down and 400-500 kb up...however on a weekday during near full capacity I may only see around the speeds you are quoting. Its all based on the backhaul of the network in your area and what it can handle. Try running your speed tests at odd hours of the night when the general public is asleep and see what results they yield.
If you posted this strictly looking for a way to cut costs out of your monthly service cost however I apologize. T-mobile, nor any carrier for that matter, can guarantee a certain data speed or higher in any area because of all the different variables that sometimes...they just can't control.

Data speed sucks

I get about 2-3mbps at home.....so about 5 minutes from my home i wanted to show my friend how fast my data is vs his Sprint.....well my 3G crapped out at around 200-300kbps and his Sprint was in 5-6mbps range.....this is the second time now Tmobile data does this to me. The other time my friend was streaming 128kbps music on ATT iPhone while I had GPRS with pretty much non-working data connection....< this was 1 year ago, and exactly the same this year !
Spotty network connection. Happens to me all the time.
Yeah that sucks. I always read about other people getting 4-6mbs on their vibrants. In my town I only get 1-2.5mbs on 3g, in the town next to me I can get 3mbs. If I want real speed I just stay home and get 14mbs on my wifi network.

This happens to the best of us. I tried a speedtest with vs a dude who was all proud of his Evo using 4G and i beat him in my office 4Mbs vs 3Mbs. It just all depends on where you're at and how congested the network is. If it makes you feel any better, my Vibrant can smoke my Droid X 90 percent of the time.

Networks vary. This shouldn't be a surprise. Each tower is different. Different loads. Different backhauls.
2 days ago I had a friend over with his iPhone4, and I was telling him about Nero v3 on my Vibrant, and the subject of speed tests came up. So he pulls up his speedtest.net app, and happily shows me a 2.5mbps test, with 220ms ping. I'm like "hey, not bad", then I pull out my Vibrant and run a test: 4.4mbps, 84ms ping.
It only went slow because you were trying to one-up your friend.
Ive been getting edge like speed on my vibrant ever since thanksgiving day. It sometimes gets to 3g.
I finally rang up tmobile support and apparently its becuase theres a network problem with the towers....so, in 72 hours, it should be fixed by the engineers.
Before the slow speed I was getting constant 1500-2000kbps, now I am struggling to get over 100kbps, almost dial up speed
Verizon 4G LTE 22 megabits/sec download. What the heck???????????????????????????????
I am simply speachless at how fast Verizon wireless 4G LTE is.
So my friend is getting a new phone and we go on a shopping adventure. Verizon, At&t and T-Mobile all 3 stores accross the street from one another.
All 3 stores are located in Los Angeles in a verified 4G area.
We ran a little experiment, hitting up 4G phones and running speedtest. We ran speedtest a few times, and the below are average max scores
Verizon HTC Thunderbolt 20-22 mbps download every single time, and 35mbps upload
At&t Motorola Atrix 4G Max download 0.36mbps What the heck? That doesn't even count as 3G I don't think
T-Mobile Vibrant 4G Max download about 1.5mbps. Still not 4G in my opinion
My personal T-Mobile Vibrant 3G max download about 3mbps. For some reason my Vibrant 3G had faster downloads thant the Vibrant 4G every single time, and we ran the test like 10 times.
So At&t was just simply a joke. T-Mobile was more acceptable, but still not 4G speeds, and I have no clue why my 3G Vibrant outperformed the 4G Vibrant. So we ran the test on the HTC G2 4G, again faster speeds on my Vibrant 3G. Doesn't make sense.
Now, Verizon 4G LTE 22 mbps download, 35 mbps upload. NO I AM NOT KIDDING.
He ends up getting the Thunderbolt, driving around LA all day yesterday, not one single spot did the Thunderbolt go below 18mbps download, and was consistantly getting over 25mbps upload.
I am amazed, now THAT IS 4G!
Are those speeds real or is the phone reporting incorrectly? He is even getting almost 40 mbps upload sometimes. Seriously? Tell me thats just a software issue giving false speeds, because that is almost not believable!

3G speeds

Ok, I'm not sure if its just the network in my area, or my phone. My speeds are so horrible, full bars and I'm getting 1.0 kb/sec. Sometimes on a good day it gets into the 30's and 40's , but rarely. I am rooted , and running the latest ota patch. Any ideas, or is Sprints network really that bad now?
Yes... Unlimited at a speed many times slower than other carriers will throttle you back to. However, you can't beat the price - or the unlimited mobile-to-mobile mins.
Edit: My wife and son are yak-fest junkies, who can use 4000 plus mins a month. But they never even dent the 1500 min 3 line family plan we have.
tapatalkin'
That's normal for sprint. I haven't gotten above 100kbps since November of 2009.
OP, is that a typo, or do you REALLY mean 1.0Kbps? Or do you mean 1.0Mbps (i.e. 1000kbps)?
I usually get between 160/750kbps at home. I noticed yesterday, in Seattle (I live 30mi north of Seattle), my speeds were much faster. I didn't test, but felt obviously, unquestionably, faster.

I don't have stats or benchmarks for my system, but i've noticed here on the east coast/america i've been getting better speeds when downloading and surfing, since about january,i've definitely seen an improvement, they did say at the end of last year that they would be upgrading their towers the first of this year.

T-Mobile Speed Tests

I was wondering what type of speeds everybody was getting and whether they noticed worse or improved cell coverage. These are a few speedtests I ran in my area while I was out. Cell service seems just as good as before but would love for them to turn on band 12 so I can convince coworkers to switch.

I'm getting way better signal.
This one is from this morning after the update.
The second one, I included WiFi because, I get 30 more megs download speed compared to my LG G3, it's so weird.

They probably turned on band 2 LTE in your area. The Note supports band 2 and G3 doesn't.
I'm using mine on AT&T and I have a lot better speeds than on my note 3 both cellular and WiFi
After the upgrade speeds are insane. I'm in Houston Texas.
I ask the question why do phone need such crazy speeds lol
20 or so. Not too happy about it either.
Is band 2 faster than band 4? Is it one or the other or does the phone pair them together?
My 6+ (band 2 and 4) gets 35 Mbps while my hotspot (Sierra 313u, band 4) gets 24 Mbps.
Where the crap do you guys live to get such fast wireless speed?I don't even get that on my at home cable internet...
I get 10-20 on my Wi-Fi and 1-5 on my "LTE"...
Are you guys kidding me !. the top speed I have experienced is around 5mbps !! __ india
